Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game arrived on the Nintendo Switch this week and for the first time ever a physical version of the game was released. As you can probably imagine, fans were rather eager to secure a copy in case this cult hit release ever goes missing again.
The demand for the Limited Run Game's physical release has been so crazy, it's actually set some new records - making this LRG's "biggest release" of "all time", according to the owner Douglas Bogart. It's managed to shift a whopping 25,000 copies in less than 3 hours!
"Thank you so much for your support in making this our biggest release of all time!"
In our review, we said Scott Pilgrim the game was still just as amazing 10 years on. Read more about it, or check out our video. Were you one of the many people to score a copy of this latest Switch release? Leave a comment below.

Just as I gussed,
Went for the KO edition AND the soundtrack on vinyl myself. The missus wasn't overly happy 🤣
That’s awesome. I’m really tempted just to try this game out. Never even knew this game/movie even existed.
@fox_mattcloud yeah anything with vinyl always catches my attention 😀
To be expected, the original release on PS3/360 is the perfect example of why digital only releases are bad and Switch owners care the most about physical releases out of all the current platforms.
I'm glad it's getting preserved but there's no way people will get these before 2022 with this big an order. Limited run are notorious with their slow production times. This will be worse than River city girls.
Well...maybe I won’t buy one to hock at Triple price in 2022.
I played this when it originally released, it was okay but I'm surprised to see how popular it has become in its comeback
I'll buy it digitally a little bit down the road. Owning a physical copy is pretty sweet, great purchase to those who got one. I didn't love this game when I had it on the 360, but having it portable sounds very enjoyable.
I definitely want this. I'm still torn between the version with the CD and the vanilla version. I've never played it, really only know Scott Pilgrim from the movie, but the movie is pretty awesome.
I'm ordering the physical copy coming but will be getting the digital version as well.
@--------------ha shut up
I imagine it's popular to keep the game preserved
I bought this game digitally and physically, both for Switch. I feel like I could have bought one version on a different system though...
We all knew this would happen and it is absolutely ridiculous that a major third party publisher (UbiSoft) worth billions didn't do a general retail release of this physically. While I am happy that we get it in some form, Limited Run should stick to working with companies who truly don't have a viable route to physical release (like indie and smaller mid tier developers). They have some problematic business practices and they have also shown that they are not large enough to be handling the volume of releases they are attempting to release.
Massive Triple A companies have no business using them to release physical versions of their games when they are more than capable of doing it themselves. They are already publishing partners with Nintendo and Sony so pulling this kind of crap is quite anti-customer. This includes Sony (Jak and Daxter), Bethesda (Doom), UbiSoft (Scott Pilgrim), etc.
I double dipped digitally on both Switch and PS4.
@JasmineDragon It's an excellent beat 'em up game. So having it back is great & now would be wise to pick up a physical copy, just in case. Heads up, you're gonna have likely a 6 month wait it you go physical but it will be well worth it.
I don't get why Ubisoft didn't want to produce physical themselves for this game? They could have made so much easy money tossing it on a cart.
Yeah got it myself as well, first game I've bought straight from the limited time store.
It's much easier to make such decisions when the game has already been estanblished as excellent and it doesn't take 10 years for the physical to become available either.
Honestly, I kinda wish Ubisoft made a physical themselves so that I would've been able to get it for $15 a few months later instead of having to shell out $70AUD including shipping just for the sake of preservation.
I wonder how many of these are destined for eBay, or if the total includes Best Buy’s order. I’ll probably order a copy in a few weeks, hopefully paired with something else to save on shipping.
And those who say digital is superior because you “just don’t delete the game” are seeing some of us know that it’s not the case with how well this is selling physically.
I have a feeling based on Limited Runs past history that they may have bitten off more than they can chew with such a big release.
I don’t actually envisage this shipping for at least 12 months, but what the hell, at least they aren’t risking their own money.
It’s utter madness that Ubisoft didn’t just publish a physical version themselves.
Now that people mention it, I definitely would have preferred a Ubisoft released physical version . Bought the digital too because of commenters here saying how long LRG takes. First time buying anything from them. This is worth it tho. The graphic novels, movie, and game are all good, which never happens. Happy to have all versions physical soon enough.
@arrmixer If you dug classic arcade titles like Final Fight and the Ninja Turtle games, you should like this. It's a lot of fun, and you don't have to have read the comic or seen the film to enjoy it
Don't believe the hype, the game is only mediocre
Not to sound too cynical, but there is no incentive to buy something stronger than being told you can't have it for years. It's like being in the desert with no water. Hmm...have I just sussed Nintendo's marketing strategy? (No I haven't. I'm joking.)
Let's see how "limited" this will really become
I wouldn't be surprised if there will be regular physical versions after LRG's order window.
Remember what happened with SoR4?
@sleepinglion has it still got the grind at the beginning though? Before leveling up on the original, the game was annoying to play.
@arrmixer the movie is awesome
@kobashi100 It does. Try using the sacrifice code in 2P mode. The character dies and drops 50 bucks. Player 1 picks it up, revives Player 2, and repeat. Once you have enough to pay off Scott's video fees, buy everything on the menu
Which proves that it shouldn't have been limited in the first place.
@sleepinglion if you go to the coffee shop 2 shops down you can buy a tea for 1.50 or something to automatically give you health after you fall then pick up the money and go buy more tea. Rinse and repeat you will be able to pull it off solo. Get some to go tea to keep bringing you back to life then the code.
With 25,000 considered limited it shows how ridiculous their business model is. We will collect your money and your orders and make you wait 12 months plus to deliver only us video game nerds would even half consider supporting such a business model.
Demand is clearly there for mainstream games like this. No excuse for using Lame Run Games.
Hate myself for the amount of money I’ve given those cowboys
@ArmoredGoomba I don't like how restricted physical sales are for this release, I can buy it freely on ps4 on disc without restrictions
@Stocksy excatly my point, why does anyone buy from this company? Glad I have other options to buy physical games, it certainly won't be from these rouges!
My wife and I ordered the classic edition and the vinyl soundtrack (even though we have no record player. Now we have an incentive to get one). Its one of our favourite games and soundtracks of all time, so the physical version will be well worth the wait.
I'm impressed with the numbers here. Not surprising all things considered though. Been having fun with this one.
If it was Super rare and not Limited Run I would have got a copy. Still waiting for games I ordered in september
@HamatoYoshi Totally agree. I’ve got two orders with LRG that are months behind schedule, and it irks me that they continue to issue orders for new games without trying to catch up on their backlog.
@GTHOLLAND I’m still waiting for a game I ordered last March: Tiny Metal Compilation.
And breaking the bank as well.....
@XiaoShao
My God. They should change their name to Limited Service.
I ordered Steamworld Heist from Super rare and 2 weeks later it arrived. With Limited they are being greedy by seeing how many pre orders they get and then producing the games where Super rare print 5000 copies and when it's gone it's gone.
@GTHOLLAND If “Being greedy” means they can maximize their business profit plan by giving ppl a reasonable chance to order it, while still delivering the goods (with the game existing digitally anyway and telling you it won’t ship for quite a while), then I suppose that criteria falls under every successful business out there. That gripe sounds like it’s coming from ppl who want to take advantage of the limited availability and hack their items on EBay for more......which totally falls under “being greedy”!
It’s horrible to know most people can’t be patient, but at the same time, if this is what’s important to customers, maybe they could offer a free download code to come with it.
@kobashi100 You must hate most retro NES games 🙂 Grinding was a part of gameplay back then so most of us older folk are used to it.
@GTHOLLAND orders from LR games take ages to arrive. But everyone knows that - they’re up front about it!
On a more general level the collectors editions and various other tat they try to upsell you on give the game away - these carts are collectibles. Items to own if you’re an enthusiast. They’re not instant gratification but honestly - if you even know they exist and you want one of the games they’re selling then you’re 99% of the time either ok to wait or willing to pay and have the game digital as well today.
By definition these are not games that would comfortably sell a hundred thousand physical copies. Scott Pilgrim is at the very top end of their scale.
In a world where it’s sometimes getting hard to even find physical shops that sell physical games anymore I think LR are doing a good job of getting niche games out for a niche audience. Everyone who really wants this physically will get a copy of they order - which is not the case with other similar companies.
For anyone struggling at the beginning those grinding methods mentioned above work but I prefer using Wallace’s secret shop in the first level. Paying off Scott’s rental fees for those stat boost items costs 500! For a quarter of that money (129 I think) you can buy one bionic arm from Wallace (in his secret shop) and it boosts your strength by 50 (permanently). Buy two and you have maxed your strength stat already. Then go back when you have the cash for the sonic speed one and the rpg one. Honestly tho with the bionic arm it will make your life way easier. But that shop is probably the easiest way to get all your stats to 100. To go snack items are also useful.
@Magrane
Dont have a cow man. It's called LIMITED RUN. Not unlimited stock.
It’s fantastic news, I am waiting on the Best Buy release though.
@XiaoShao it really annoys me that they want 100% upfront too, not just a deposit then the rest when the game ships.
They’ve been established long enough now that they should be able to get the games manufactured and ready then offer them for sale. It’s a horrible business model
I’m glad it’s doing well and I’m glad so many people who wanted it are getting it, but man, I’m missing something with this game. I bought it for PS3 as a gamer who loves the movie and the comics, and I just thought it was boring. I wish I liked it, it’d be fun to get in on this excitement. Oh well.
I’m not familiar w the comics or movie at all, but preordered as I enjoy beat’emups like River City Ransom which this is very clearly channeling. Good chiptunes are always welcome and a little grinding doesn’t bother me in the least - figuring out how to do so smartly is rewarding if the core game is fun enough.
But LRG is on fire lately! I’m waiting for this, Hyper Light Drifter, and Panzer Paladin, and was very badly tempted by Towerfall.
@GTHOLLAND Good one! And I agree about Super Rare: they’re an outstanding group. I have Heist and several other games from them, and I really appreciate how reliable they are!
@HamatoYoshi I think Limited Run will make this a priority release.
With so many people ordering this, I think their reputation is on the line. If this doesnt release until after August people will be turned of and LR could actually lose business
I will get it, but dont get paid until friday so will get it then
watching this makes me wonder why they didn't do a Viewtiful Joe game in this kind of brawler setting. I mean it already is, you would just have to expand the 2d a bit intothe background. Would be enough to justify a next installment. damn, damn, VJ.
I managed to snag the standard edition, as I'd purchased a couple more games as well and didn't have the budget for the collectors editions.
@GTHOLLAND Nice glossing over of my reply.....but yeah thank you for your “clarification”. 🤷🏻♂️
@Magrane
No probs my friend. Hope it helped
