Re: Best Buy Will Soon Stock Select Limited Run Games Physical Switch Releases

TreonsRealm

@Razieluigi I'm not upset at others having access to the game, I'm actually thrilled that more people can now get it as that is much better for Playtonic and fans. I am also quite happy with my purchase and had specifically bought it to support Playtonic and I generally do like Limited Run (although their business model has a habit of creating a seriously heinous scalping market). If Limited Run wishes to switch to doing things a new way, that's fine but it should have been more clearly announced ahead of time and not used titles that were just finished being sold as part of their limited set. They actually did something similar to this with their handling of Oceanhorn for Switch and even removed it from their numbering system and gave it a much longer pre-order and co-published with FDG Entertainment (all of this was made clear on the product listing for that game). They make a big deal of their "Limited" way of handling things in interviews and documentaries and go as far as doing the whole numbering thing but this was an odd move considering their past. I do like that they don't pull the same super limited windows for Switch that they pull with PS4/PS Vita titles which I've never agreed with.

@Rob3008 - They did not make it widely clear that this was part of the plan and as close as 10/6 (orders ended 10/7), they didn't have it locked down. They may have said this in other places but their product page on the site didn't make this known.

To be clear, I'm still happy I and many others were able to get the game physically, I'm just not agreeing with how they've changed things after the orders were done. Honestly, I'm more curious why Team 17 didn't publish it physically as they did for the PS4/XB1 versions. This makes me more upset for Switch fans as the whole limited thing seemed like a way to strong-arm physical Switch fans into paying an inflated Switch tax for the game (a game which was $40 at launch on PS4/XB1 and are now $20).

Re: Best Buy Will Soon Stock Select Limited Run Games Physical Switch Releases

TreonsRealm

This seems like an odd move that flies in the face of their original business model. Honestly, I'm a little irked by this considering I bought Yooka Laylee for Switch from their online store as I was under the impression that it was the ONLY way to secure a physical copy and now they pull this. I could have saved on shipping among other things if I had known this was even going to happen. If they are getting big enough to do this, they should drop the "limited" BS and just become a regular publisher (like Xseed or NIS America). Sorry but I'm a little ticked as this seems kind of dishonest to their loyal customers.

Re: Monolith Soft Director Would "Love" Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, Money Stands In The Way

TreonsRealm

I adore XCX (one of my favorite RPG's of all time) but I would happily go for a full blown sequel (Xenoblade Chronicles X2) before waiting for another port. The original was built around the Wii U hardware and did a great job of integrating the Gamepad and I don't need them to try and jam it's functionality onto the Switch. On the other hand, I would lose my s#!t for a full sequel built around the Switch hardware. XC2 and Torna floored me with how much I loved those games and the thought of something the scale of XCX built around the hardware makes me soo excited. Honestly, if they revealed a XCX2, it would likely get me more excited than even Metroid Prime 4 right now. If there was a single request I could make of Monolith Soft, if would be for BOTH offline and online multiplayer as I would love to hang out with some buddies and explore either a new portion of Mira or a whole new planet.

Re: NBA Playgrounds Is No Longer Available To Purchase From The Switch eShop

TreonsRealm

Nothing like strong arming customers to buy a newer, micro transaction laden version of your game just as that fact is becoming known due to reviews. I'm sure there's a bunch of "digital is the future" people who will find a way to defend this but when things become fully digital only, I'm out. My only exception are indies on computer who keep their games DRM free. It's a shame that the big triple A publishers have decided to become so anti-consumer but it's to be expected in an industry that is consistently rewarded for pulling this stuff.

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Physical Release Will Require A 6GB Day One Update

TreonsRealm

If Ubisoft didn't cheap out, I would have been day one on this but now I'll simply wait for clearance price (like what happened to all the other Toys to life games). All of this is because Ubisoft won't use a 16gb cart and instead wants to save a buck or 2 on the 8gb cart which is absolutely ridiculous. Bethesda (Skyrim) and NIS (Ys VIII) were willing to use 16gb carts for their titles so I don't understand Ubisoft's reasoning on this one. I'm also curious why Nintendo allowed them to do this considering the game uses their IP in such a high profile way, they use the 16gb carts all the time (Zelda, Xenoblade 2, Hyrule Warriors) so I'm pretty sure they would have cut Ubisoft a break on the cost difference. Strange but I'm sure this will hurt potential sales among physical buyers as many will now be hesitant to buy at full price due to this. I wish Nintendo would mandate digital only for titles that try to pull this. Outside of patches/updates, physical games should be complete on the cart! Now, these games will be trash in the future for new players when servers eventually shut down and you can't download the necessary data to play it.

Re: Konami Confirms There Are "Absolutely No Plans" To Bring Castlevania Requiem To Other Systems

TreonsRealm

With Sony handling this, it kind of feels like Sony is just trying to cash in on the back of the new interested in the franchise (Netflix Series and Smash Bros). I can't really blame them but it feels like a HUGE missed opportunity for Konami to cash in on a Switch version which would have sold a ton (especially if they went both physical and digital). Just look at Bloodstained. Oh well, disappointing but I've already got it 3 times over (PS1/PSP/XB360). It's a shame though.

Re: Capcom Announces Mega Man Live-Action Hollywood Film

TreonsRealm

As a long time fan of Mega Man, I want to hope for something decent but my instincts are telling me this will be a dumpster fire. Also, since this is so early on and 20th Century Fox is handling it, this means Disney will ultimately be putting this out by the time it's done and their track record is spotty at best. Capcom should just be happy they managed to get out a good, new Mega Man game and take things slow instead of trying to quickly cash in on the franchises recent rebound. Their new animated series is pretty bad which doesn't help when it comes to thinking they'll have any set of standards for a movie.

Re: Behold The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch Hardware Bundle

TreonsRealm

I'm confused, does this mean people are buying a system which includes a game game download for a game they can't play till over a month after they buy the system? If so, that's some dirty pool Nintendo. This is not a good look, especially after that awful "reveal" of your online service which didn't actually give us any real new details. Outside of locking features behind a paywall (online play, cloud saving and that horrid voice chat), I'm still struggling to figure out why people should buy into it.

Re: Blizzard's StarCraft Series Unlikely To Be Released On Nintendo Switch

TreonsRealm

Why not just throw Starcraft Remastered on there since the system requirements wouldn't be as stressful on the Switch as Starcraft 2. They could offer a variety of control options (Standard Analog stick & buttons, Motion, Touch Screen and Mouse & Keyboard through the dock). Also throw in some wireless and online multiplayer. It would be a relatively cheap port to "test the waters" on Switch for stuff like the RTS Warcraft series. Just a thought.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Livestream Coming This Wednesday

TreonsRealm

I'm really hoping for some kind of solid single player mode. This is one of the major reasons I love Brawl so much. Hell, I'd even take a remastered Subspace Emissary from Brawl, just throw in some new story stages based around the new characters (Mega Man, Splatoon, Bayonetta, etc.) and I'd be a happy camper. I dumped so much time into that mode and loved every minute of it. I was pretty upset when Sakurai decided to get away from it because he was miffed about people uploading the cinemas to YouTube. Honestly, this would be a launch day make or break for me as I didn't play the Wii U/3DS version that much due to the lack of any substantial single player mode. I know that's odd considering the series nature but Brawl (and even Melee) kept me coming back for the single player stuff.

Re: Nihon Falcom Dealt With "Online Flaming" For Years Because It Didn't Release Games On Nintendo DS

TreonsRealm

Ok, now that we understand Falcom's position in the past and technical limitations are no longer an issue, how about bringing the whole series to Switch so we can FINALLY play the entire series in one place! I LOVE this series but you literally have to own like 3-4 consoles just to be able to experience the whole timeline. Even Steam doesn't cover everything. I would happily shell out to have a physical collection of Origin/1/2/3/4/5/6/7 all on the Switch alongside Lacrimosa of Dana. I know 5 doesn't have any type of official english language release but I feel like they have a perfect opportunity to announce an official remake of 5 for Switch and spend the next year or more releasing all the previous titles. I'm fine with upgraded versions of the PSP/PS Vita titles on Switch as they would be an excellent fit. Please make this happen Falcom, pretty please!

Re: SNK 40th Anniversary Collection Will Hit Your Switch In Time For Christmas

TreonsRealm

I'm anticipating this but it is frustrating that we still don't have a complete list of every title included. I wish SNK and NIS would just come out with the entire list already. NIS America's online store only has 11%-25% pre-orders left despite saying "with more titles to be announced!". I want to know everything included before dropping the money. I'm still excited for this but very disappointed at how it's being revealed.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Metroid Prime 4 Will Skip E3 2018

TreonsRealm

Honestly, they have earned that considering Sony shows the same stuff for 2-3 E3's in a row (-Cough- Spiderman, Last of Us 2, Days Gone, etc. -Cough-). I figured it was a 2019 (at earliest) title and the fact that we got Samus Returns was a nice appetizer so I'd rather they take their time.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Disappears From The North American Wii U eShop

TreonsRealm

Honestly, with the odd price hike on the Switch version (considering the lack of any major content), I am shocked Nintendo didn't just include a HD Donkey Kong Country Returns with Tropical Freeze. I would have double dipped in a heartbeat to have both games together and the price wouldn't have bothered me one bit. It's really odd when you consider that titles like Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition has all DLC or Captain Toad actually adds new levels for the same price as their originals.

Re: Rumour: Burnout Paradise Gets Rated For Switch Release In Brazil

TreonsRealm

Considering Burnout Paradise is one of my favorite driving games ever, I'm totally down with this on Switch but I've got major fears considering what EA has become. IF this is a 100% fully featured and upgraded version of the original and includes everything on cartridge (disc for other consoles) including ALL DLC, they've got my money day one. BUT...if they try and force us to rebuy DLC separately (ala Modern Warfare Remastered) and find some BS way to force in microtransactions or lootboxes (special cars or skins for example), EA can shove the game squarely up their A$$. Sorry to get a little graphic but we all know that the odds are high that the modern "games as service" EA would absolutely try something like that for this 10 year old classic. Especially since they saw Activision do it with the 10 year old Modern Warfare. Here's hoping EA actually does good by the fans but I am fully prepared to just continue enjoying it on my 360.

Re: Steep Is Still Coming To Nintendo Switch, Honest

TreonsRealm

As I've said before, Ubisoft should ditch this and focus on getting Switch fans the 2 South Park RPG's. It is downright moronic that they still haven't even been announced for the Switch as they would be a PERFECT fit for the console and I highly doubt that they would be hard to port. The ability for many major 3rd party's to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to Nintendo consoles is staggering. Really Ubisoft, why are you even wasting time/committing resources to this project seeing as no one was even asking for it while current games like South Park are practically begging to be one the system? Wake up, freaking Bethesda is crushing you when it comes to Switch support (that's a phrase I never though I would be uttering, especially in 2017, lol).

Re: Video: Check Out WeFly - Factor 5's Long Lost Pilotwings Game for Wii

TreonsRealm

Considering my love for flight games, Factor 5 and especially the entire Pilotwings series, it really stings to see how far this came along and yet never got released. I would have played this to death had it been released. Considering we are getting an official Star Fox 2 at long last (which seemed impossible), I think the team should revive the game with a new name (maybe even under the Pilotwings brand again) and release it as a Switch exclusive. It would be a day one purchase for me!

Re: Retail Version of DOOM on Switch Will Need a Download for Online Multiplayer

TreonsRealm

First off, I'm thrilled this is coming to Switch and I'm fine with the Multiplayer being a free digital download if it brings the cost down on the cartridge as the single player is the most important part of this game. I'm also hoping for some small exclusive extras like optional gyro aiming and amiibo support (a special Samus armor would be amazing!). On the other hand, the lack of the level builder seems like a huge missed opportunity considering the touch screen would have been a PERFECT fit and likely would have encouraged more people to use this feature. Hopefully it's added back in later as a free download. Overall, provided they don't price gouge Switch owners for full price, this is a very welcome addition to the Switch library.

Re: Axiom Verge Launches on Switch on 17th October

TreonsRealm

@YANDMAN If you go to Publisher Badlands site for the game, they provide ordering links for every version. The Wii U version only has links for Spain and France while the other systems cover US & Canada as well. Quite frustrating as if they just canceled the Wii U version outright, I could understand (still wouldn't be happy though) but to release it in only half the regions really sucks. The link is: badlandindie.com/axiom-verge-multiverse-edition/

Re: Axiom Verge Launches on Switch on 17th October

TreonsRealm

Is the US getting the Wii U version or not? Badland said it would still happen and it's showing up in other territories but I can't find it anywhere in the US. I was really hoping to make the physical release one of my final Wii U games in my collection.

Re: Ultra Street Fighter II Was A "Smash Hit" On Switch, Says Capcom

TreonsRealm

Considering the BS Capcom pulled with things like the new Mega Man collection (skipping the Switch), the Disney Afternoon collection (skipping the Switch) and not localizing Monster Hunter XX (I have no problem with the series spreading back out to Sony/Microsoft but NOT localizing the game for a Nintendo portable/home console when that's where the series has grown most in the West is just plain braindead). It almost seems like Capcom has some major issue/vendetta with Nintendo despite the Monster Hunter series on the 3DS being one of the few things keeping them afloat for the last few years. Considering the popularity of the Switch (especially in Japan and US), you'd think that they would be falling over themselves to drop remasters and ports of older hits that never went to Nintendo all over the machine but their current attitude is completely baffling. Also, why isn't Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite coming to Switch? With very little work, the game seems completely doable on the Switch and would probably do extremely well.

Re: Tetsuya Nomura Clarifies Comments About Kingdom Hearts III for Switch

TreonsRealm

I've always found it odd that over half of the Kingdom Hearts series has been on Nintendo portables (including the direct prequel story running into Kingdom Hearts 3) and yet Square Enix snubbed Nintendo machines for the "Main" entry's. For example, why didn't the Wii get Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (that would have sold a ton during the Wii's peak)? Also, why didn't the Wii U get the Kingdom Hearts 1&2 HD sets (Square Enix instead makes their 1 and only Wii U title a Deus Ex game which was doomed to fail)? I had chalked this up to some kind of console exclusive deal between Sony and Square Enix until they announced Kingdom Hearts 3 for XBOX One!?, a console line with no history with the series. For that matter, why hasn't the entire Kingdom Hearts HD series been announced for the Switch (this is the definition of a no-brainer)? Fans would jump on this and by the time they've finished releasing all of them, it would be perfect to then bring KH3 over. Square Enix's ability to screw themselves out of money on Nintendo consoles is truly impressive and really quite sad.

Re: Rumour: Porting Steep to the Switch Is Posing a Steep Challenge

TreonsRealm

Hey Ubisoft, how about ditching a year old port that likely won't sell and give Nintendo Switch owners what they really want and deserve, both South Park RPG games. I would completely forgive not getting Steep in exchange for a South Park: Stick of Truth/The Fractured But Whole release at the same time as the standard release this fall. I'm willing to bet that the South Park games would be WAY easier to port, don't require online BS and would be way better suited to the Switch. Hell, I would even sacrifice Steep AND Rayman "Definitive Edition" (let's be honest, the Wii U version is the true Definitive version and most Nintendo fans have already played it). Make the South Park games happen and scrap the old ports that everyone knows won't sell well. I can't be the only person who thinks this is a MUCH better option and will lead to much better sales on the Switch for UbiSoft.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is Revealed, But Platforms Are Unannounced

TreonsRealm

Cool trailer but until we've seen actual gameplay, I'm taking this with a VERY large grain of salt. We've had close to a decade of teases and trailers with nothing actually coming together. While I truly hope this comes (to all systems including Switch), I'm also very cautious about getting hyped for a new prequel/sequel to a 14 year old cult classic. Let's hope this actually happens.

Also, the language was a bit out of place and definitely felt like they were trying a bit too hard for the "hardcore". I've play the original through once a year since launch and this trailer has a really different tone.

Re: New Trailer for Skyrim on Switch Showcases Motion Controls and Link amiibo Support

TreonsRealm

@electrolite77 I would love to agree with you but I've been through every generation of Nintendo hardware (their console always my primary machine each generation). From the N64 till now, 3rd party support has always been on a steady decline (even the Wii had pretty awful quality 3rd party support considering its success). I see no reason why this will change with Switch. At this same point in the life of the PS4/XB1, 3rd party's had tons of games announced and in the works without a need to "test" their viability. Even the PS3, which sold relatively poorly in its first couple years, had loads of 3rd party software despite the poor sales and being a nightmare to develop for compared to 360.

The idea of developers needing to "test" a Nintendo console and its success is an idea I tried to convince myself of quite a few times but in reality, these company's are very likely to do what they always do. They'll pay lip service to Nintendo, slide them some table scraps every so often and continue to say they are bringing their games to "all" systems (i.e. Sony, Microsoft and PC) while acting like the Switch (or any Nintendo console) doesn't really factor into the conversation. Even the Need for Speed Payback Producer said that the game could run on Switch but "it's not something we're looking to at this very moment". Personally, I'm fine with this as Nintendo software and Indie's trump most of the mainstream 3rd party stuff in my opinion but it is the reality of Nintendo consoles for over 4 Nintendo console generations now.

Re: New Trailer for Skyrim on Switch Showcases Motion Controls and Link amiibo Support

TreonsRealm

Before we get too excited about Bethesda support, let's remember that it was Nintendo who approached Bethesda and asked them to specifically put Skyrim on Switch. I find it telling that we have literally seen nothing else from Bethesda announced for Switch. Considering the number of titles that would have been a good fit for Switch (Doom 2016, Fallout 3/New Vegas "Special Edition", etc.), it's pretty sad that we got nothing outside of a title Nintendo had to essentially beg them for. Hell, it's really telling that the mobile titles (Elder Scrolls Legends, Fallout Shelter) didn't even get announced for Switch. There would literally be no work porting them to the system and they would be a perfect fit. Even when Nintendo makes their machine super easy to develop for AND it sells like hotcakes, big 3rd party's show them next to no love. On the plus side, 1st party games will be amazing and Indie 3rd Party's will likely thrive on the machine considering they won't have to contend with the bloated "big" 3rd party's.

Re: Playtonic Outlines Yooka-Laylee Improvements and Switch Version Progress

TreonsRealm

Hopefully they nail down the camera a bit, tighten up the controls a touch more (as things are a touch floaty right now) and completely revamp where the feathers are hidden to give a bit more direction through the levels (ala Banjo Kazooie) instead of the random directionless placement and sprawling empty sections of levels. Other than this, I'm on board as what I played on the PS4 version wasn't as bad as what I've heard. Oh yea, and physical cart is a MUST!

Re: Square Enix Silent On Switch Dragon Quest XI Due To "Adult Circumstances"

TreonsRealm

If I had to guess, the "circumstances of adults" probably means that Sony shelled out some cash to get a home console exclusive window once they saw how the Switch was dominating Japan and didn't want the title launching on PS4/Switch at the same time. I have no doubt that the Switch version would've murdered sales of the PS4 version and Sony wants a nice 6 month (maybe even a year) period to ensure their version sells well (after all, the title is absolutely going to move consoles over there). If the title gets released outside of Japan, it will probably launch on everything simultaneously seeing as the series doesn't do as well so that advantage won't matter but in Japan, Dragon Quest dominates.

Re: Teslagrad Was Most Profitable on the Wii U Compared to Other Platforms

TreonsRealm

I'm happy for their success but I sadly passed on this one. I desperately wanted to play it but held out for the promised physical edition which never happened in the US and with my Wii U storage pretty much tapped out, I only collect physical titles now. Hell, if they still did a Wii U physical of this and their new title, I'd happily buy as the system is still my primary console at the moment. Unfortunately, I know this is never gonna happen. Hopefully we'll eventually get a Teslagrad/World to the West double pack cartridge release for the Switch. That would be a day 1 purchase for me.

Re: Review: Kamiko (Switch eShop)

TreonsRealm

@whitemaskedhero I would agree except that Skipmore's own Fairune was on 3DS in 2014 (2 years before Hyper Light Drifter) and Kamiko is a clear evolution of that series. To be clear though, all of the games are great in their own right and I would love to see both Hyper Light Drifter and a Kamiko 2 on Switch.

Re: Video: How Well Does Virtual Reality Work On The Nintendo Switch?

TreonsRealm

I recently spent some time with the PS4 VR and in all honestly, the resolution on it was pretty crappy as well but it didn't detract from the fun factor of the games. If Nintendo and other developers avoid going for hyper realistic visuals and focus on graphical simplicity/performance (think Battlezone PS4, Star Fox, vector graphics, etc.), then the resolution won't be a big problem and the experience could be really cool. I would gladly trade the resolution downgrade for HD Rumble feedback (imagine the sensation in your hands matching the screen), lower price than competitors and no wires (this constantly breaks my immersion with current VR setups).
Another key thing to note is that Nintendo can offer the hardware upgrade if needed in a way the other companies can't. In the future, they can just sell the standalone tablet (the core hardware) with beefed up specs minus the Joycons, Dock and other accessories for those who want to upgrade for VR seeing as the whole system is modular and people can use their existing accessories. This means they could theoretically sell a "Switch VR Upgrade" setup which features just the upgraded Tablet and headset for somewhere around $200. Personally, I think Nintendo may end up doing something like this if they pursue VR.

Re: Nicalis Teases a Binding of Isaac amiibo

TreonsRealm

Cool idea but what will the amiibo do in the game? If it doesn't do anything special, they should just make a standard figure and skip the whole amiibo aspect seeing as their interaction with the game is a main draw to an "amiibo". If it does work with the game, does that mean the Switch, 3DS and Wii U versions will all be patched to support it? If it's only for Switch, it seems like a bum deal for fans on the other systems. To be clear, I'm excited for the possibility of the figure but this aspect seems to be curiously absent from the discussion.

Re: Poll: Where Do You Currently Stand on ARMS and Splatoon 2

TreonsRealm

I honestly think Nintendo would benefit greatly from a demo for ARMS. A simple 2 character/1 level demo that supports 2 players so people can get a feel for the controls and gameplay. Seeing as this is an unproven new IP that people are on the fence about, Nintendo NEEDS to do everything they can to sell it and allowing all Switch owners to try would be a great step.

Re: Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time Gets 3DS Release Date in Japan, But No Switch Details

TreonsRealm

Ok, so let me get this straight, there is gonna be some kind of cross save feature between 3DS and PS4!? We don't get this with
Hyrule Warriors/Hyrule Warriors Legends, Xenoblade Chronicles/Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Super Mario Maker/Super Mario Maker 3DS
and many more, but we get the feature between a Sony Home Console and Nintendo Portable? Did we all stumble into some kind of alternate universe?

All joking aside, I find the lack of Switch info on such an important title to kind of fly directly in the face of SquareEnix's supposed greater focus/support of the Switch. Considering it was one of the earliest games ever revealed for the Switch (then known as NX), it seems extremely suspect that it had no info. Especially when you consider how well the Switch is doing overall, I would have expected the Switch version to be highlighted more than the other 2.

Re: Sonic Mania Developer Clarifies Details About the Switch Port's Launch

TreonsRealm

As far as I know, the game is digital only (the collector's edition stuff is the physical stuff, not the game itself) so the "Switch tax" doesn't apply. As for the perceived "Switch tax", why don't developers just start pricing their games initially based on the Switch pricing? Aren't developers/publishers constantly complaining about game pricing being too low and games being undervalued? This would allow them to take the pricing up for PS4/XB1 games up to match Switch cost and make more money across the board while not singling out Nintendo owners as have to pay more for physical games. Seems like a pretty simple fix.

Re: Review: Skylanders Imaginators (Switch)

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch vs. Wii U

TreonsRealm

I dropped 4 hours on the Switch version launch night (did the midnight launch with my friend for his system and game) and just did 2 hours on my Wii U version today (stupid Amazon didn't get my version out launch day like promised). I can honestly say that both run great. The Wii U version has some framerate drops in different areas than the Switch version as the video says but the experience is just as enjoyable on both versions. No different than other open world games on other systems so I don't know why Nintendo is catching flack when titles like Skyrim and Witcher 3 have the same kinds of framerate issues and people don't obsess over (typical double standard stuff). The clarity is a little lower on Wii U due to resolution differences but it's still a gorgeous title on both hardware. If you have a Wii U, I can safely say that the Wii U version is just fine and a safe option for those who don't want to upgrade hardware yet. An interesting note is that amiibo scanning as way more responsive and quicker on Wii U.
