The above photo might look like an old school Nintendo advertisement, but it was actually taken quite recently on the set of the upcoming Marvel film, Avengers: Endgame.
This image was shared on Twitter by the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and shows Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) on a couch together enjoying a two-player Game Boy session with the assistance of a Link Cable. According to IGN, the game they're playing is Tetris, which was first released on the device in 1989.
If you're not familiar with either of these stars and have somehow managed to avoid hearing about what is expected to be one of the biggest movies of 2019, it concludes the epic battle between Thanos and Tony Stark's team of heroes.
Later this year, you'll also be able to take control of Captain America and Black Widow when Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order arrives exclusively on Nintendo's hybrid device. Until then, you can always enjoy the free-to-play battle royale game Tetris 99 for a much more modern Tetris fix.

Okay, Cap and Black Widow playing Game Boys is adorable. I'm so freaking hyped for Endgame. Didn't expect to see Avengers related news here either!
What is that cable ?
@Anti-Matter That's the Game Boy Link Cable. It was used for Game Boy multiplayer. Wireless multiplayer wasn't a feature for Nintendo handhelds until the Nintendo DS. There were some options late in the GBA SP life through an adapter but until then, all Game Boy multiplayer required cables to link the systems.
I still have my GBA link cable and both GBA and SP. Some point I'm gonna get around to playing golden sun duology on GBA again and linking it up for the bonuses and such.
spoiler alert:
Natasha (being a Russian spy) beats Thanos at a game of Tetris, causing him to give up the Infinity Gauntlet in defeat and disgrace.
the world is saved.
Cap's got a lot of catching up to do! Next up, Pokémon Red and Blue. 😛
That picture looks like an ad it’s so stylized and everything.
Which of them will reach the endgame first?
RANDOM: The guy who plays Sheldon on Two and a Half Men likes Fire Emblem Heroes
I had a GBA SP but the regular link cables so it was this odd pairing of silver system, purple cables.
Super hero movies are not my thing (the only Marvel movie I've seen is the first Iron Man and it was OK) , but a game of Tetris surely is. Playing with friends on a link cable is great fun!
Geez what a blast from the past just seeing that. I remember playing Tetris like that vs my neighborhood friends when I was in high school. I wish I still had all that stuff.
I wonder who owns them.
Tetris ‘89 was sooo good!
@PBandSmelly ''a couple million'' haha, sure.
@Quarth This is the most truthful comment ever. There should have been two random "non-famous" people playing and an article about it ^^
And I thought falling deeper in love with Scarlett wasn't possible 😍
Celebrities playing video game is an important event that must be reported in every media outlet and social media.
Why watch celebrities play video games when you can see them in pain eating hot wings?
@Charlie_Girl she takes the infinity gauntlet and crushes Thanos with some imaginary Tetris blocks conjured using the reality stone.
@nintendolie
"See! Not all Nintendo fans are dorks!"
@TreonsRealm Actually incorrect.
The gameboy color had Infra Red wireless communication as well (only used in a few games) and the GBA / GBASP were compatible with the GameBoy Advance Wireless Adapter which allowed local wireless communication between GBAs.
The DS was the first Nintendo handheld with WiFi though.
@PBandSmelly oh no
@FTPinkRabbit
RANDOM: Billie Eilish's dad works at Nintendo
@Charlie_Girl Interesting how a joke about Thanos gets more dislikes than half the right-wing nonsense I see on this site. Hmm, either people really don’t like Avengers or they see your avatar and feel compelled to hit that dislike button to hold on to that last shred of masculinity 😉
On this episode of "why on Earth or Titan didn't @ThanosReXXX comment on this Marvel article yet"...
I'm still glad not to be the only one hyped for this movie to come out. It's going to be one long couple of weeks.
You needed IGN to confirm the game was Tetris? The Tetris cartridges wasn't proof enough?
I seriously love these actors in avengers. They are the most down to earth people on set ever.
Also I can't wait for the blackwiddow movie. They really downgraded her in the avengers. Did they forget that she has a portion of the super soldier serum?
Promoter 1: "Nintendo fans are nerds and seem to have a lot of money... How to do we market to them?11??11?" Promoter 2: "Get them to play Nintendo products in an image an actor can share on Tweeters!". Promoter 3: "YEAHHH! We'll make it retro so it really sticks out.". Mission accomplished.
so time travel on endgame confirmed
Never even knew I was born the same year as Tetris (GB). I suppose it makes sense, since that's my favorite version to play.
I’m not surprised, but disappointed in the cynicism on display in regards to these two people even remotely possibly engaging in the very human act of enjoying a game together. The very thing that brings us to this site, is somehow diminished in the eyes of those either incapable or unwilling to allow someone’s success be differentiated from basic human needs, like understanding, compassion, community and friendship. Shame on you.
@SetupDisk That's exactly what I was wondering. Who had two Gameboys, with link cable, all pristine lol, not that it's impossible, just odd in this circumstance. IGN reported, so hmm...
@Quarth We are a rare breed, my friend. You and I may be the ONLY people on the planet who don't throw all our money at stupid Marvel and their endless chain of garbage movies. I hate that the world supports them so much si they keep making them! Can't movies be original and good again??
I saw this same image on Facebook but they were playing Pokemon Red and Blue. Hmm.
@invictus4000 Well, if people wants to watch them, it's fine with me. It just happens to be that those movies are not for me, just like Fortnite isn't a game that appeal to my taste. We all enjoy different stuff.
That Hollywood is out of ideas is nothing new (even though there are some good mainstream movies being produced here and there). But I'm not that bothered.
@TechaNinja I love Golden Sun, that is a game I would love to see a large world remake for on Switch.
@AlexSora89 Why I didn't comment? Well... as a wise man once said: if you haven't got anything useful or funny to contribute, then just shut the hell up.
If I had to comment on every Marvel and/or Avengers article out there, I'd have a second job by now...
@nessisonett
¯(ツ)/¯
@SockJones you must be new here
@The-Chosen-one
Marvel Studios misuses her character. they put her in action hero positions, when she's supposed to be doing subterfuge and spy stuff. (Winter Soldier movie almost got that.)
@Charlie_Girl I’ve only recently joined because it’s mostly pleasant, but I’ve been a reader for a while. I generally refrain from any unpleasantness, but this is pathetic.
They are going to play Tetris... whatever it takes.
I'm super hyped for Endgame and looking forward to MUA3 too. To scratch a bit of the MUA itch I bought the first MUA for the Wii. Its a bit fuzzy looking and the motion controls are a bit annoying but for just $5 I cant really complain.
@Charlie_Girl
Yeah I definitely want to see more of that, that she can do what others can't. Spying, sneaking and kicking ass. In Iron man 2 she was at her best. After they nerved her.

@BensonUii
Hahah good one 🤣
@ThanosReXXX
Well, I meant as far as NL articles go, anyway!
Tony Stark's team of heroes? Seems like somebody hasn't caught up with Marvel movies xD
All in good jest, of course
This brings me so much joy!
Even the Avengers know Switch Online is a scam! I say this because of the tagline, "Who needs Tetris 99?".
@Jayofmaya Nintendo fans are nerds? That's so wrong.
@Wavey84 I was resistant to it as well for a while. What sets the films apart is the chemistry between the characters. The action scenes are just a CGI wreck to me. By Act 3 I’m usually thinking about other things waiting for the good guys to win. Infinity War may be the only Marvel Film that was the exception to that.
I bought the original GB because you could play Tetris on the go. Sadly my GB's screen developed lines that made playing on it difficult. I wish I still had all of my GB games but I'll be lucky to find them at my parents house after all this time.
No thanks i hate anything Marvel
@Quarth @invictus4000 I watch Marvel movies (usually on Amazon Prime, after they've left theaters) because they're a reliably good time. I don't expect a cinematic masterpiece, and I rarely feel compelled to watch a Marvel movie more than once. A Marvel movie is rarely inventive, and never profound. But it's almost always fun.
@Wavey84 DBZ was a favorite when I was in my early teens, although I really never liked Vegeta (Piccolo was my favorite). Had every book in the original manga series. Yeah, it was over the top in a good way. Don't know if I would enjoy it as much going back to it as an adult (in my early 30s now), but it was a big part some years of my childhood (going from Pokémon to Dragon Ball to a big interest in listening to and collecting music (which I still do to this day)).
@Dr_Corndog Yeah, as I said, each to their own.
Marvel started going down hill from Rise of Ultron onwards in my mind.
Antman? Come on, sorry but that was an awful film, and they made a sequel?
Its just disney grabbing all they can get, just like the new Star Wars movies, all pants
This brings back memories of when I played Tetris against my Uncle.
At least they're still alive
@BensonUii Captain Marvel took place in 1995 (possibly 1996)
@Charlie_Girl Totally agree mate 👍 sometimes the seemingly random dislikes people give baffle me.
