Re: Taito's 1983 Western Shooter The Tin Star Is This Week's Arcade Archives Release

Only Doki Doki Panic had a save feature and that was because you needed to play the game 4x to see the ending (which was later removed in the rereleased version, Super Mario USA).

Famicom version of SMB 3 did not have any save function either.

But, it should be noted that the lack of a save function isn't just an 8 bit problem. There were SNES, Genesis, a few PlayStation games and even GBA games that lacked a save function .

Re: A Nintendo Direct Mini Has Just Been Shadow-Dropped, Watch It Here

Toy_Link

Decent direct, considering the circumstances. Nice to see 2k and Atlus starting to fully get on board with the Switch. BD II looks nice. Panzer Dragoon looks to be a good remake. As long as Ninjala isn't pay-to-win, I think it'll be great.

Bit of a shame, that Namco and Capcom didn't bring any of their A tier titles. And Nintendo brought their B game with this direct (not surprising with how much Nintendo still relies on physical game sales). Was hoping to see something from Warner Bros., specifically the Midway part..

Overall alright direct.

Maybe Nintendo could patch in a special easter egg for those who take this path:
If you talk to Tom Nook after doing all of this, he'll give you the "incredibly fun" almond picking minigame after finishing it he'll give you animal cruelty stock footage (provided by PETA) similar to PETA flash games as a reward.

Also if you have any cat or dog type villagers, they'll "move away" and disappear with no explanation.

If Nintendo hired everyone that ever made anything with their IP in it like all you armchair internet business management experts demand, Nintendo would have a million developers pushing out tons of shovelware with their IPs like those dime-a-dozen C-rate indie publishers on the Eshop.

If any of these developers want a job at Nintendo, maybe they should propel themselves and do what it takes to get there like that American guy who learned Japanese and moved to Japan so he could work at Nintendo. In the end he became an environmental artist for BOTW

@NoTinderLife
here's a man who has artistic vision,
He's showing up Nintendo with each decision,
He makes it really a sight,
With it all really bright,
Do his artistic skills know no boundaries?

Nintendo, hire this man,
Nintendo, hire this man,
He's using Dreams on Playstation in any way he can,

First, make a bootleg Mario model.
And put him in a world filled with flat textures
Then make sure the contrast's high,
And though the physics are very off,
This man's still a master of the medium,

Nintendo, hire this man,
Nintendo, hire this man,
He's using Dreams on Playstation in any way he can,

Re: Talking Point: Has Coronavirus Finally Put E3 Out Of Its Misery?

@roadrunner343
Thanks for correcting me, should've double checked that beyond all the headlines about E3 being the "biggest gaming convention".

I'm surprised that Gamescom has 350,000+ attendance compared to E3 at around 65,000. Maybe it's just me being not European, but to me it always felt like E3 was the bigger event.

Re: Japanese Charts: Persona 5 Scramble Dominates As The Coronavirus Sinks Switch Sales

With Hatsune Miku having shortages due to SEGA underestimating the demand for that game from the Switch audience, I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened to P5S.

Not to say even without shortages, it would sell as much to the Switch audience as the already established P5 fanbase on PS4. But, I do think such shortages (if they did indeed happen) could've really hurt the sales of the Switch version.

“I'll be able to play Nintendo first party games in 1080p 60fps on a PlayStation? That's news to me.”
If you just want Nintendo games at 1080p/60fps, Why have you complained about third party games being 720p such as Metro Redux and Samurai Showdown (that you would’ve bought if “it was 1080p” which it already is on Xbox and PS4)?

You frequently complain about the inconsistency of Nintendo fans, because we’re not all a hive mind (imagine that!). But, you frequently flip flop between wanting a Switch Pro , so you can have flawless third party ports and just wanting to play my Nintendo games at 1080p when someone asks you, “why not just buy it on PS”.

"What else would they say? 'Our survey got very little attention'."
As far as I can find Atlus has never previously responded to the results of one of its surveys before.
And that's not the most notable part of the article anyway as the article mentions:
"this is the most feedback the company has ever received on one of its surveys"

"Ask the youth which they want, some has been Hero from Dragon Quest, or the great Batman."
When has Smash ever been a popularity contest? If it was Goomba and the old man laying on the ground in Viridian City would've made it in before most of the cast.

And DQ hero a has-been? DQ is a lucrative franchise in Japan, the latest installment has sold millions, the mobile app DQ Walk has been a big success,, and the franchise makes millions of dollars of merchandise. It's quite literally a multi-billion dollar franchise.

"'m just saying if you gonna go that rout, give me Spring Man, or Rex from Xenoblade."
If we're making this a popularity contest again, DQ11 sold more than both those games combined. Hell, DQ11 sold more in 2 days in Japan alone more than Xenoblade 2 did in 2 years worldwide.
And I'm 100% sure that most kids would choose Batman over those 2.

"Dragon Quest isn't bigger than Nintendo"
You're comparing apples to oranges here. It's like saying "Warner Bros. is bigger than Frozen!", sure Nintendo is overall more popular than DQ, but most of Nintendo's franchises are less popular than DQ except for Mario and Pokemon.

". I'm talking iconic figures who make you want to buy a game. Give me John Wick!"
Weren't you complaining about third party characters not having anything to do with Nintendo?

If we're making this a popularity franchise again, the John Wick movie franchise has only made less than 600 million dollars with 3 movies. DQ is a multi-billion dollar franchise.

@mesome713
Wait, Dragon Quest, the Famicom's and Super Famicom's second best selling franchise, behind only Mario.
The franchise where every main game (published on a Nintendo console) has been published by Nintendo in the west plus the spinoffs.
And the franchise where Iwata personally helped translate the first game.
It isn't apparently part of Nintendo history? What?

Oh I guess it isn't a POPULAR enough third party series to be in Smash. The one that's sold MILLIONS in Japan alone! I guess Batman with very popular games on Nintendo systems such as.... uh that Sunsoft one.... or that spinoff to the Arkahm series on Wii U and I'm sure there's... a few others?

And do I really have to make a case for Banjo Kazooie, where the two most popular installments were funded and published by Nintendo and were made by a company (that at the time) owned by Nintendo? Or Terry, who's appeared on many games over the years on Nintendo platforms? But, I guess Doshin the Giant is a better choice because "he's owned by Nintendo"?
