One of the best ways to promote a video game to the masses nowadays is via live streams and video recordings. Not every company is necessarily a fan of this, though. In the past, we've seen developers like Arc System Works enforce streaming guidelines, in an attempt to reduce the number of spoilers, and now Atlus has shared its own list of guidelines for its latest release, Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers.
This information comes from its official website. The list below details what is and isn't allowed – for example, when showing footage of events or story scenes in The Phantom Strikers, you must clearly tag them as spoilers. If Atlus deems a video "unacceptable" it must be removed. Below is the full rundown:
- uploading screenshots or videos requires you to use the consoles’ own capture and share functions
- Atlus will not allow screenshots or videos captured via personal capture cards
- only upload videos to sites supported by the sharing features on Switch and PS4
- if you are showing event scenes or story scenes, you must clearly mention that there are spoilers
- footage/screenshots should also show: ©ATLUS ©SEGA/ ©KOEI TECMO GAMES All rights reserved
- do not use the gameplay footage for any other purposes other than showing gameplay
- do not only upload the BGM/music data, or use gameplay footage for the main purpose of listening to the music
- uploading gameplay to sites that require subscription services or payment to browse is counted as using gameplay for monetary purposes
- do not use the gameplay footage to slander other people
- if Atlus requests you to remove the video, please remove the video
- videos that Atlus deem are unacceptable will be deleted or taken off from viewing
- queries into this matter may or may not be answered by Atlus
- if the streaming or uploading of gameplay leads to monetary loss, Atlus does not hold any responsibility, nor will they pay any monetary compensation
- players are not allowed to share anything about the game’s endgame or anything afterwards
On a related note, a demo for Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is now also available from the Japanese Switch eShop. A western release for this title has not been confirmed yet.

Is Atlus another word for Konami?
This right here is the prime example of being out-of-touch with gamers. These rules are going to be ignored almost instantly, just like with Persona 5.
I see they didn't learn from Persona 5's release. I understand not wanting spoilers but let people upload what they want without any strings attached. It's only going to cause people to spoil the game anyway no matter how much you intimidate them.
I could see this being a thing if they're given a copy of the game by Atlus for marketing purposes, but otherwise they have no right to police people streaming their game.
Don't worry Atlus, I won't be doing any of that cause I'm not buying the freaking game whether for Switch or PS4.
It’s all a bit out of touch. Gaming’s changed along with wider media and they honestly can’t stop the masses of videos that’ll flood the net regardless. Actively engaging with the community is definitely far better an option these days than policing it.
Persona police coming for you.
Honest question. If someone buys the game (not gifted to them from Atlus) after the game is released to the public and they stream the entire game, as long as the stream or video is non-monetized there is nothing that can technically be done right?
Sorry just thinking out loud, but it seems to me that as long as the streamer is not making money on it they can't be required to be censored.
The irony here is killing me, where is Atlus’ palace?
@Xiovanni nahh another name for Marvelous...
They already tried this. Futile. Anyway, really hope it does well on Switch.
Godammit Atlus, these are even worse than the guidelines they had for vanilla Persona 5
I'm totally ready for those audio-only streams again lol
I hope that someone makes an example of these goofy rules and contests Atlas in US Court when they copyright strike
You know you're doing something wrong when you make Nintendo and Disney look like they're lenient when it comes to protecting their copyrights.
@Dayton311 If Atlus really cared in that specific scenario, they could sue the platform hosting the video and / or the streamer for infringement of copyright. Then it would be up to a jury to decide whether or not "streaming" constitutes enough of a transformation of the original material that it is not covered by copyright. However, I don't think it is--I think Atlus would win that lawsuit. That my friend is why YouTube always sides with the copyright holder over the content creator, to cover their ass in American courts.
It's not relevant if the streamer is breaking copyright for commercial purposes or not, that's just a common misconception (at least in NA).
Imagine buying a Lego set, but you can't show it off to your followers because Lego put up strict rules on how to photograph and upload it.
Damn... Those are strict guidelines, which effectively means no reviews for this game will exist and it'll suffer the same date as Daemon X Machina.
"What Atlus deems unacceptable" is developer slang for "we can take down EVERYTHING. F you!"
These are enough reasons for me not to buy a game.
@Zeldawakening They are within their right to apply strict rules. So a judge would always decide in their favor.
However with rules like these I wouldn't want to buy the game. At all.
Honestly don’t see any problems with these rules. I mean, they aren’t extravagant in any way - show off our game if you want but videos should be about the game and nothing else. Oh, and warn for spoilers and no end game content.
Just seems like common courtesy to me.
Maybe the “no capture cards” are a bit stingy but there’s ways to work around that.
@Aerona legally they can as it is their property (it is just stupid it they do and they will do it...)
@Balta666 Unless they make you sign an NDA to play the game, fair use supersedes this CCP wannabe nonsense.
@Jeaz I get them not wanting people to spoil the game but what about people who just want to simply record themselves playing? Basically a lot of people. People are going to spoil the game anyway to get back at Atlus. This happened with Persona 5
Did you read any of the guidelines? Specifically these two
"If Atlus requests you to remove the video, please remove the video
videos that Atlus deem are unacceptable will be deleted or taken off from viewing"
@Fiyaball people are free to ignore these rules as long as they don't make a Pikachu face about the resultant videos being taken down afterwards. And those deeming it too much of a "shady practice"(tm) can avoid buying the game altogether. I find such a list a bit of a hassle myself, but if this stuff is also in the product's EULA, that's another "take it or leave it" case.
@nessisonett if by "community" you mean "fandom", pesticide is the only recommendable kind of active engagement with any of those in existence - and if policies like this have a side effect of reducing the number of fans at a given while, I'd say it all checks out. As for engagements with the audience... technically, worrying about the careless spoiler impact on the audience's reception and enjoyment of the game is within the realm, skeptical as we may be about the lengths it goes to.
Ah, I was wondering why there was no let's plays. I will make sure I extra don't buy this this. NOW PORT PERSONA 3,4,5!
I think it's fair because it's only in Japan the rest of the world have to wait for knows how long till it's released worldwide so stop people uploading content to spoil other people
@KBuckley27 You still can't take screenshots during dialogue in base P5.
Maybe I'll stream the demo via capture card to Mixer if anyone's interested.
No problem. Atlus are a terrible, anti-consumer company these days anyway, so I don't buy their games anymore.
Getting some massive Nintendo Creator's Program vibes, good god.
On another note, once again happy to mention that we've gone a few years now since the NCP died.
By the way, this game is an action-focused spin-off, so wouldn't it have less major story moments compared to Persona 5? Why would Atlus need to be that concerned about spoilers
@Primarina Altus would probably just make an iTunes version just like they did with Persona 5 and then point to that.
Is there restrictions on the DEMO though?
