"It's a secret to everybody" is also a somewhat common phrase to see. But everyone (rightly) realizes that when its used in a Zelda game its a reference to the first game.
@Slowdive Space Fever doesn't use any assets from Space Invaders and adds new modes to change things up. It is derivative, but in no way is it copyright infringing.
Namco's Galaxian and (Nintendo's) Radar Scope have as much resemblance to Space Invaders as Double Dragon has to Streets of Rage.
Crazy Kong is port of Donkey Kong to cheaper Arcade hardware. It straight up uses most of the original sprites and depending on the distributor would use Miyamoto's art on the cabinet as well.
And please don't tell me what I should comment. Thank you.
@Slowdive Yep, there were no other competitors in the Arcade space in '81, literally no one. Arcades were just filled with one hundred Donkey Kong machines, because that's just how things worked.
Poor indie company like Falcon could make thousands of $3,000+ machines, but couldn't think of an original idea, so they made a dollar store version of DK.
Man, I remember when that guy was giddily saying in the comment section for Japan's charts that it was another flop. Despite it already clearly having legs at that point.
Now he's acting as if the FIFA sales are the second coming. lol
@Snatcher There's plenty of generic restaurants at Universal Hollywood that could easily be reskinned into a Mario café. So I could see it happening over here too.
Interesting that the shop shares design elements from SMO's Princess Peach's castle. Considering that the main area was designed pre-2017, whatever's in the castle in SNW will take more inspiration from the NSMB or MK7 iterations of the interior unless if it got a last minute redesign after Mario Odyssey came out.
@EVIL-C Do we really think that developers will want to develop exclusively for a revision that will only have a fraction of the user base of the Switch?
Most third parties are still going to skip Switch especially as more of them SWITCH from current generation offerings to focusing entirely on the next generation,
As there is no way that Nintendo's going to upgrade a mid-gen revision to PS5 levels or even Ps4 Pro. Best I'll think we'll see from developers if a Switch Pro does come out are a few "test the waters" XB1/Ps4 ports "exclusive to Switch Pro", that most of the Switch's audience will ignore and instead be excited about the faster loading times on Yoshi's Crafted World.
Switch Pro will get like 4 worthwhile exclusives, 7 slight upgrades to pre-existing games and 1 great update that everyone will remember just like every other Nintendo revision to date.
@Papichulo This is Kirby's in Minecraft's style, not meant to represent any preexisting sprite at all. Minecraft character models are made out of squares or rectangles without any "rounded" edges.
They did a great job on emulating the look of SMB, so I can see why they some people would think its emulation, even tough it was pretty obvious to me when you could bounce off enemies (like post SMB 3 platfomers) that this was developed from the ground up.
Also if March was menat to be the original starting date for Mario's 35th celebration as rumored, it doesn't seem unlikely that SMB 35 would've been finished in time to release it in time for the first few months of the celebration.
@kostasfil I don't see anything graphically amazing enough in the trailer that it couldn't run 720p-900p in the average open world Switch game.
This isn't going to be a Switch Pro exclusive as anyone who can open the Eshop can see and Capcom isn't going to be risked being sued over the trailer graphics looking better than the version that the majority of players will see.
Not everything is a confirmation for the Switch Pro, despite what the conspiracy theorists have been saying when a new Switch game that looks slightly graphically impressive has been revealed since 2018.
"The beginning of the trailer appears to 'select' Super Mario Sunshine from the three titles, suggesting we may get similar short ads for each of the three games." Super Mario 64 one is already publicly uploaded to it's Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/3CMjkywMEtc Mario Galaxy trailer hasn't been publicly uploaded yet, but its on the website: https://supermario3dallstars.nintendo.com/super-mario-galaxy/
All 3 trailers have been on the website since it launched over a week ago.
@Tourtus Sonic 2 on Game Gear bears almost nothing in common with its critically acclaimed Genesis counterpart. May as well judge the Mega Man series using the DOS games as reference.
Comparing it to the "Star Get" on original hardware vs. the clip in the opening, it looks to me that it's zoomed in closer to Mario in the opening (i.e it's not real widescreen).
To be fair that is how they achieved 16:9 on the Sunshine cutscenes in here along with stretching them.
@Benji80 Ironic thing is that one of the user attacking that poster, goes on massive tirades against "the fans" whenever they can find an opportunity to do so.
But they're acting like a massive toxic fan boy/girl by basically saying "You're not smart enough to understand these movies RubADub DubDub!" Instead of 'ya know, giving good examples of depth in these movies.
@NEStalgia "That new park sim they showcased in the XBox showcase might pick up the torch, we'll see." Are you talking about Planet Coaster? Because that's actually made by the same developers as this game.
@nessisonett Are you only counting "mainline" (2D/3D platformers) games in that number? Because until recently (i.e pre-2013) Sonic was releasing way more mainline games than Mario. Used to be almost a yearly thing for Sonic. LOL
Also unlike Sonic, Mario has has plenty of spinoffs since Odyssey to provide a stop gap between mainlines. Sonic's really only had TSR and while it was good, it really needed more content to compete with other kart racers like CTR or MK8DX.
@Doktor-Mandrake What are you talking about? There were like 5 non-mobile, non crossover Sonic games in the past 10 years, while I can't how many Mario games there have been in the same time frame.
Mario has already had 1 new game this year along with a Mario Kart "spinoff" coming soon. There's no sign that there'll be anew Sonic game by the end of this year.
@Alaninho I would assume Frontier ported it themselves (with Atari's approval of course), maybe to make up for the lack of Planet Coaster due to how difficult it'd be to port it.
This comment section reminds me of that MEGA 64 skit where a game journalist's life got ruined because he gave Uncharted 3 an 8.5.
7 is still a good score, especially when two of the games have an unintended physics bug that completely changes how they play. I've seen remasters/remakes get raked over the coals for much less.

It's already critically acclaimed on PC, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
