During the Japanese Nintendo Direct, Bandai Namco revealed it would be releasing the Namcot Collection for Switch on 18th June 2020. No, it's not a typo, 'Namcot' was the name Namco used for its console publishing business between 1984-1995.
This upcoming collection will be available as a physical release and as a free download from the eShop. The hard copy will include every title in the "first round" of releases and a secret bonus title.
The digital release will allow players to select and buy individual games from the eShop, and they can then display them on their virtual shelf however they like. Below are the titles that will be included in the first round (thanks, Gematsu):

- Wagyan Land
- Pac-Man
- Galaga
- The Tower of Druaga
- Battle City
- Star Luster
- Family Jockey
- Yokai Dochuki
- Dragon Spirit
- Mendel Palace (Quinty)
- Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti
Each title includes modern features such as the ability to stop and start the game, and save progress at any point. Similar to other collections, you'll also be able to rewind if you make a mistake, and screen settings can be customised as well.

At the moment, there's been no mention of a western release. If we hear anything, we'll be sure to let you know. In related news, Mr. Driller will finally be making his debut on the Switch.

Fingers crossed for MappyLand in a future round!!!!
I'm STOKED this is getting a physical release, since that means I can import it. I've been hoping to see a Mendel Palace re-release for a while; now we finally get it. (Game Freak's first published game, I think?)
Um...
There were the compilations of Classic NAMCO on NDS and PSP. 🤔
I think i will get both NDS and PSP version as both of them have Mappy, the PSP version have the 3D Remake version.
Liam, NAMCOT was used upto 1995, not 85. It died out alongside their development of home ports for 16 bit consoles.
Also thought it would be worth clearing up that these are all Famicom ports/original titles.
Wow. 3 years since Switch launch, and I still can't buy just Dig Dug. It's only available as part of a $30 bundle. I have zero interest in everything else. I cant take Namco seriously anymore.
So we most likely won't get these games on the Switch Online Famicom/ Nintendo App...
And there are more to release digitally?? How big is the Namcot library anyway?? If it includes SFC/ SNES game then it might be worth a look.
I remember collections like this on PS1 back in the day. Cool, but not that interesting for me.
But I am glad to see more retro collections in general. I'm vaguely tempted to buy a copy in the hopes that better sales induce future similar collections from other companies.
But most of the retro titles I want to have are Nintendo first party titles or at least Nintendo partners like Intelligent Systems and Game Freak.
How about remastering Pacman World 1-3?
Now that would be a helluva good collection...
And still no Pac-Mania, Mappy, or Pole Position on Switch. Was really hoping for a Namco Museum 2.
Oh man! This is super cool! I’m really hoping we get this in the states! Its a very specific type of Namco collection and i’m super for it!!!!
Is it just me, or is the way this article is worded that makes it seem like having the ability to start or stop a game is revolutionary?
Was about to dismiss this collection, until I saw the inclusion of SD Splatterhouse.
It's somewhat more interesting now.
Even though the line up is a tad weak.
They can't fit more titles on here ?
Nice, but there are 3 games here that overlap with Namco Museum. I guess I'll buy the ones I'm interested in individually then.
But seeing these are NES versions I might get it, not at an import + shipping price, of course, but if it comes to the West physically.
Very cool to see Dragon Spirit on there, not a common arcade game...and it's a cool one!
Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is a quite fun NES game that will benefit a lot from restore points and rewinding! Definitely worth a look. I had more fun with it than Splatterhouse itself. Horror cuteness!
More coin-op compilations please Mr / Mrs Namco. xx
Ah, Battle City. We Eastern Slavs had access to quite a few Japanese-only games back in the day (after all, all the clones smuggled stuff from this market first and foremost - most Dendys/Subors/Kengas themselves were built to look like the classic toploader Famicom), and I still have to remind myself that this game was practically UNKNOWN in the west as opposed to being a staple of my own gamer childhood. And not just my childhood - my father spent many hours playing the game with his own friends and workmates! All the fort defense challenge, the variety of pickups, the co-op, the mostly destructible terrain and the native level editor (without saving, but hey, still a pioneer on the platform!)... and all of this came out in 1985.
I want Splatterhouse!
Nothing much on this that interests me.
Isn't this the best way to do VC. I hope the next Nintendo is backwards compatible so we can play them for longer too like the DS.
Pity there is a lot of gems from the 80s and 90s that won't see the light of day ever, officially, but I'm happy with these releases 😊
Fun fact: Mendel Palace was made by a pre-Pokemon Game Freak
These are the kind of weird collections that I love, where even if it's an oddball collection, it still has tons of effort and great games on it.
I think the secret title might be Xevious. You here the music at the end.
It would just be easier if all this publishers included a code to download 3 of their retro games every time you purchased a New Modern title of the publishers. I am tired of incomplete collections that keep being ported or rebooted or not being able just to buy a specific game.
Pretty sad that Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Collection all the way back on the PS2, GameCube, and original Xbox still stands as the overall best compilation of Namco's classic arcade games. They've been pretty stingy ever since then, comparatively speaking.
@chocolate_supra Glad to see another westerner that enjoys Mappy Land.
@AtlanteanMan Namco Museum Virtual Arcade for the Xbox 360 has by far the largest lineup. 28 arcade classics, 3 arrangement games, Galaga Legions, Mr. Driller Online, and Pac-Man Championship Edition.
Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Collection only had 16 arcade classics. Namco Museum Battle Collection for the PSP from the same year even bested it, with two more arcade games and 4 arrangement games. And 2008's MegaMix had 18 arcade classics as well as 6 arrangement games.
A good portion of this collection is already available as a part of the Namco Arcade PAC collection released a couple years ago.
Mendel Palace? They mean the old NES Mendel's Palace game?
Still no Ms. Pac-Man. 😟
Oh... so we are not getting those in N-online subscription then...
I'd like to believe this collection has Rolling Thunder/2/3 on it; perhaps even as secret unlockables? I guess I'll get Namco Museum Arcade Pac, since I also wanted Pac-Man Championship 2.
I hope they do more Museum related game collections on Switch.
Seriously, they literally have a history of great classics.
Some of which I wish would get the modern treatment and more love nowadays.
Hear me out bamco. Waves for Dragonball and Gundam. And maybe even the Wonderswan? There's a decent amount of games that that thing had. Please, Bamco. I preordered DFBZ for this kind of stuff, and I'll buy this kind of stuff now in a heartbeat.
Boy do I hate Bandai-Namco's idea of compilations. They never have the right selections of games I would jump at...
More arcade classics, please. Galaxian, Pole Position, Ms. Pac-Man.
I find it rather ridiculous that there’s no way to buy some of these games from Namco in 2020.
Someone should inform Namco that the NES Classic Mini exists.
@Anti-Matter these are purely famicom ports.
@Sinton Namco collection on xbox 360. best one that has ever existed.
Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is an awesome game and I don't believe it ever got an official release in the US.
Hope this collection gets a Western release.
@Atariboy Yeah, you're right about that; sorry I forgot about it. Even so, it's been quite awhile since we got a Namco collection anywhere near that size.
The presentation and extras are nice, but the number of games on this collection is disappointing. The NAMCOT catalog is huge, even when they keep limiting this to Famicom/NES games!
Might check it out if it ever got a western release and is on sale otherwise them AtGames Namco Bandai Blast dongles I got from the bargain bin will do just fine.
@Bermanator Yeah virtual, it's worth to own a physical of Galaga legions.
How about Namco gives the Switch Tekken, Ridge Racer and Soul Calibur? Its little things like this which are preventing the Switch from being my favourite console of all time. It's missing just a few games which have appeared on past nintendo consoles.
