As more video game developers and publishers cancel their convention appearances worldwide due to the coronavirus outbreak, Gamescom – the annual European video game trade fair held in Germany – has decided to share a list of the first exhibitors who have signed up for this year's event.
Smack bang in the middle is our favourite Japanese video game company Nintendo. In total there is close to 30 major companies who will be in attendance in 2020. Nintendo will be joined by other big-name publishers such as Microsoft, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. Noticeably Sony is missing, but there are plenty of third-party publishers to fill the void like Bandai Namco, Sega, and THQ Nordic. CD Projekt Red will even be in attendance and then there's Twitch. Here is every company that's been confirmed so far:
This upcoming event takes place between 25th and 29th August this year. Just yesterday, the E3 event organiser Entertainment Software Association issued a revised statement about its own show. It stated how the "health and safety" of attendees, exhibitors, partners, and others was "top priority" and that it would continue to evaluate new developments and provide updates as needed in the future.
We'll be sure to let you know if anything changes, but for now, both Gamescom and E3 2020 are going ahead as usual.

It seems like Sony is always M.I.A. now
@Aaron09 Yes.
@Elvie I had the same reaction. For all the Direct thirst that's out there, at least Nintendo is showing up to events. Sony has something as huge as a new console on the way and they're just staying away from the party. They're pulling a reverse-Saturn.
Far as I know, Germany hasn't had much trouble with the virus. So it's little surprise events would not be cancelled there.
@Aaron09
The E3 2020 website lists Nintendo as an exhibitor.
@Heavyarms55 Germany ranks 3rd as a European country with the most coronavirus cases (5th worldwide). Hopefully we'll have another heatwave in Europe this summer and this will all die out.
Ooh nice! Cant wait.
@echoplex You're right, I was misinformed. A quick Google search fixed that.
There seems to be a lot of people hoping the heat will kill off the virus - but I don't buy that. It's not the flu and I don't trust we'll get so lucky. There's been cases in the middle east and that region is hardly cold. If the heat killed it then that shouldn't be possible, right?
@Heavyarms55 There's cases in Australia despite it being like 40C there.
@echoplex @Heavyarms55 Not trying to keep you guys awake at night, but researchers on the topic (like my girlfriend actually) don’t know yet if this will die out in any weather condition. The coronavirus from 2003 spread to Saudi Arabia in august, and even with temperatures that high it was able to survive.
There’s a reason the WHO is concerned.
All precautions that are being done currently are to slow down the virus, so that the ‘wave’ of ill people is as small as possible so hospitals and medical facilities have the capacity to handle it. Not to let it die out somehow, that won’t happen I’m afraid.
Seems like Sony is trying to avoid exposure to the Coronavirus as much as possible which is understandable since Germany now has 129 cases of infection from the Coronavirus outbreak.
@retro_player_22 yep. Well, they were the big winners of last gen’s console ‘war’. It’s up to the other companies to turn the tide, Sony can wait. The Playstation Brand is big enough!
@retro_player_22 There are 400 confirmed cases of Sars-Cov-2 in Germany now: https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/corona-ausland-situation-103.html
"In Deutschland sind laut Robert Koch-Institut (RKI) bislang bei 400 Menschen Infektionen nachgewiesen."
"According to the RKI infections have been confirmed in 400 people in Germany."
(The RKI is responsible for disease control and prevention in Germany.)
Update: 534 confirmed infections. https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/corona-ausland-situation-105.html
Cancelling all large events seems to be the only option to slow the spread down at least a bit.
Sod off, mate. No-one will fall for your ruddy scam.
Will Nintendo even have anything new to show off by then
@Elvie Sony's pulling a Nintendo. With Pokemon Mystery Dungeon out today, Animal Crossing is the only upcoming 1st party game with a release date yet still no Direct. Sony still has 2 massive 1st party games left (The Last of Us 2 in May and Ghost of Tsushima in June) and FFVII Remake is a massive timed 3rd party exclusive in April so Sony could technically wait until June for the PS5 reveal.
It'll be nice to see what nintendo has up their sleeves for this year. Looking forward to some good game announcements from them. Microsoft, who knows what they'll talk about, possibly their next console techs and that they bought more companies and games will finally start coming...honestly looking forward to the next Ori game. As for Sony, they're waiting for something else...and I can't wait for their next console and they've already showed off their two games coming up. Sony seems to be doing the nintendo approach right now, which is fine, because I like how Nintendo and Sony both do that. Can't wait to see some good upcoming games from all though!
@KBuckley27
Nope. Nintendo stopped making games after 2019 and are declaring bankruptcy.

@IsaacHeron Wow much worst then, hope those who are attending Gamescon and those who host it are fully aware of that. 500 is no laughing matter.
Is Gamescom in any way affiliated with the US Chain Target? This totally is their logo with a slight cut and pull down. I don't know anything about Gamescom, so maybe just a coincidence.
Has anyone mentioned that the logo looks like the target logo broke?
