Re: Geoff Keighley Announces Summer Game Fest, Four Months Of News And Events

Toy_Link

@RPGamer
I don't know why even call it the Game Awards, they barely care about the awards, most awards don't get a significant buildup or an acceptance speech. They care more about the B-Tier announcements, pandering to the movie industry and advertisements than celebrating the previous year's achievements in the gaming industry.
Fire Emblem got two awards and both were presented in a quick fire format with no fanfare. I can't imagine that happening at the Oscar's or the Emmy's. I think even the Razzy's is better at pacing than the Game Awards.
Geoff will never have his award show as respected as most other industry award show (as he so much desire), until he starts respecting the award element of his show.

Didn't Crazy Redd's work exactly the same way in NL? 4 pieces of art every week, try not to get scammed.

According to Nookipedia, there's 15 more pieces of art, but it doesn't seem like it should take years more to complete the collection in NH than it did in NL, unless if you are really bad at identifying art (which is easier this time around anyway, since you can now take a closer look at everything) or just buy art randomly without taking a closer look at it.

At least according to this article from Polygon, they successfully bought the royalty rights to MS. Pac Man from General Computers Corporation:

@DrDaisy
I should make a small correction ATgames bought the rights in 2019, but Bandai Namco was already having a feud with the original owners over royalties since about 2015.

"with poor graphics"
Game looks fine considering what it is, what kind of graphics were you expecting from a top down maze Pac Man game?

EDIT: Also it would take a lot less effort to make this game that was already released 2 years ago on Switch free, than porting Soulcaliber, Tails of Arise, etc.

A "perfect" prototype master planed city of the future was far from a safe bet. There was a reason why the idea died when Walt died and "East Coast Disneyland" (the part of the plan that Walt cared least about) became the main focus of the Florida project .

Nintendo and Disney both have always been crowd pleasers. I don't think there's anything wrong with that as long as you make a good product and you take a good amount of risks. Nintendo has its own fair share of "Cinderellas" such as NSMB and all the Wii series games (that came after Wii Sports was a proven success) and also their "Fantasias" such as the examples you cited above.

Walt wasn't just a businessman, there was already another Disney at the studio that was much better business man than Walt. There was a reason why the company almost collapsed after Walt died. Walt wasn't the most creative guy around, but I think he knew how to fix a story, and how to enhance an initial vision.

@Euler
SMM2 is an evergreen game, just like past Mario games. Sunshine, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, NSMB2, NSMBU (original version), and 3D World all took more than 6 months to reach 5 million.

And this ain't the lowest selling Mario game, most of the other spinoffs (which SMM2 is) sold way less than this: most Mario Parties, all the RPGs, all the sports games, and all the spinoff Wario and Yoshi platformers sold less than 5 million.

This is a very dishonest comment, MATE
The question you're referring to from yesterday says: "Do you think Nintendo should make villagers available via DLC, given that the cards are so expensive?"
It makes no mention of it being randomized, in packs, or even being paid packs. And before you say "OMG bro, everyone knows that NL meant loot boxes when asking the questions, MATE"
You don't know what other people were thinking when they answered yes and please (language warning):

Nice the controller remap should fix should be able to fix the running controls in Trial's of Mana and DQXI. I'm actually surprised how at how flexible it seems to be for Nintendo with the capture and home buttons can be turned into actual useful (in-game) buttons.

Pinball was considered gambling for decades in the United States, despite receiving no rewards from the machine itself. It was considered gambling because people were basing bets on it and was considered a game of luck. Only reason that changed was because it was proven to be a game of skill.

Plenty of people "cash out" their lootbox goods in CS:GO or PUBG for real cash. So yes loot boxes can be considered a category of gambling.

Re: Talking Point: We Should Brace For A Huge Games Industry Knock-On Effect Following The CERO Shutdown

@Grumblevolcano
Nintendo is stil going to have the "pressure" of other publishers announcements during IGN's event and the arrival of XBSX and PS5 (assuming they're not delayed) in the fall.

And unless if you think CERO's closure is going to be extended into summer or even fall(which I find ridiculous), the games that are affected will be the summer titles, not the fall titles that are the main focus of E3 Directs.

And I don't think in times such as this, it's out of the question to delay the Japanese release. Especially if its a big blockbuster title like Mario that will drive Switch sales. If they're worried about losing Japanese sales with imports, they can always slap a rough release date on it, like half of the games in the mini direct.

And E3 Directs are targeted towards the Western market anyway (Unlike most Directs, Japan does not get unique versions of E3 Directs, only subbed version). While of course there are still plenty of Japanese developers and publishers in E3 Directs, there'll be western publishers like 2K, Activision, EA, etc. (who are usually ignored in the JPN version of directs) that usually release their games later in Japan anyway, so it won't effect them anyway.

Re: Talking Point: We Should Brace For A Huge Games Industry Knock-On Effect Following The CERO Shutdown

Toy_Link

Does CERO work the same way as the ESRB, where the publishers show a trailer of the game that includes the most objectionable content contained within and then a committee rates the game?

I'm wondering why they can't employ people from the home, if that's the case? Leaks?

@Grumblevolcano
Why would no digital E3 be confirmation of no Nintendo Direct? Couldn't Nintendo just do what LRG (or what Nintendo normally does for most directs) and post the direct on their YouTube channel or just partner up with IGN if they think it'll get lost with the rest of the gaming news?

If you practice what you preach, then don't use the internet to post on video game fandom websites, as the energy used to power the internet is bad for the environment:
https://medium.com/wedonthavetime/guest-blog-post-the-alarming-environmental-impact-of-the-internet-and-how-you-can-help-6ff892b8730d

Also, even if E3 was cancelled forever, there'd still be a (non-E3) convention(s) or event(s) that would be in the LA Convention Center first two weeks in June. LA Convention Center is constantly booked, cancelling E3 would do nothing for the environment.
