We're getting Super Mario Lego, it has been confirmed.
The Danish toy firm is joining forces with Nintendo to create a range of toys which feature the world's most famous plumber, and, judging from the teaser tweet, some kind of electronic connectivity is going to be featured.
The video shows a Mario toy with a screen inside, presumably a smartphone one – or, more excitingly, a Switch.
We'll update this story when we hear more news about this exciting collaboration. But just think – if Super Mario Lego is happening, then surely we'll see Zelda, Animal Crossing and more rendered in chunky blocks? Could this also lead to a series of video games, like the Star Wars and Marvel efforts?
We've previously seen fan-made Lego sets based on Nintendo properties in the past via Lego's Ideals portal, but none of them have succeeded in actually going into production, presumably due to licencing issues between Lego and Nintendo. Previously, Nintendo has worked with Lego rival Mega Bloks to produce sets based on the Pokémon series.
Now that issue has seemingly been overcome, we can't wait to see what comes next.

Lego Mario the game
THAT’S SO COOL!
i’ve always wanted this as a kid
dem stubby legs
Can't wait for the hot takes "THIS WILL SUCK WTF ARE THEY THINKING!" just like mario & rabbids... how that turn out? dopes
FINALLY! It has perplexed my for decades why we've never had official Nintendo Lego sets. Hopefully Zelda isn't too far behind!
Well, with Nintendo admitting they wanted to branch out to more non-video game stuff, this was inevitable really.
Not my kind of thing but cool for the fans!
@Rika_Yoshitake yeah but that was because people hated the rabbids franchise.
I’ve never heard of anyone hating lego. Maybe not being interested in it but never hate or even dislike.
As much as I love Lego and Mario, I cannot stand another Lego game.
Sorry, not excited about it.
Someone on here literally just called this, I would give credit where credit is due, but... I don't remember his/her name.
@tourjeff It’s probably Lego sets, not a game. Maybe both though.
O M G, finally!
I'm going to take kids just as an excuse to buy all the Nintendo Lego!
@andrew20 yes please
HD remake of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
@ShadowSmile Well, now that Nintendo is officially partnered, LoZ LEGOS could happen.
Will this be compatible with N&B Blocks?
@darkswabber Parents hate Lego after stepping on the pieces. 😂
I guess their contract with mega blocks expired?
@andrew20 : Lego Mario: The Movie - The Game
@andrew20 surprised it's not happend before now i'm sure iut would sell a fair bit.
That's not a Switch or a Smartphone screen, the pixel count is way too low for either option.
@imgrowinglegs my bet it's some sort of of Labo and Lego mix.
Might be cool what they are preparing but it's just not something I'm interested at the moment.
Would be more exciting to have a Direct.
More money...more please.
@andrew20
As long as its made by Nintendo. The LEGO games are far too simplistic and rote for my liking. I did enjoy the Marvel LEGO game, but only for so long.
Game have a page up to register your interest. But they mention that the news was revealed in a Nintendo Direct...

Does that mean we are getting a direct soon?
That only took like a billion years. Why didn't do this sooner?
An excellent collaboration if ever there was one! I did not like the Mega-blox Pokemon kits I bought for my kids last Christmas and really wished Lego had the license instead! Now it looks like they may, starting with-a Mario, wahoo!!
It's-a me, Mario! Let's Le-Go! Woo-hoo!
This is a match made in heaven... just imagine, Lego sets of various Mario Levels from different games!!!!
My wallet is ready
I hope is not *just Nintendo Labo made from Lego, that would be great too, but I really want my SMB Lego sets
Yes but what's the framerate and resolution? We need to know these things.

It's weird that this is the first official Nintendo LEGO set, great to see them branch out for once.
LEGO Peach’s Castle.
LEGO Bowser’s Castle.
@Aaron09 I’ve always wanted this as an adult!
Zelda lego (assuming it follows) might possibly be what causes bankruptcy.
@OrangeSoda comment of the day!!
I’ll wait for the WaveRace and Pikmin Lego set. Could be along time
Give me a Zelda Lego and I will be on it as soon as it is released.
But its Lego Mario, not Lego Nintendo
"The Danish toy firm is joining forces with Nintendo to create a range of toys which feature the world's most famous plumber"
Where does it say this?
Imagine Lego Metroid, with the titular Metroids taking the form of a Lego hat.
I need a bigger apartment just to handle my Star Wars Lego collection. Now I'll need a big house so I can add the Super Mario Lego collection. HAHA!
Whatever that is, it's pretty dang ambiguous.
Surprised this actually happened. Yes, it always seemed like a match made in heaven, but LEGO licensing issues kept this from happening sooner. Basically for any licensed LEGO set, LEGO would own the game rights to a LEGO-fied version of the property. With as close an eye Nintendo keeps on its meal ticket, it was a sticking point that couldn’t be overcome in the past.
Meh. I would be more interested in a Lego Mario video game.
Looks really off-putting but glad it's finally happening.
If it's actual sets... I'm done for. My wallet will be torn asunder.
Prob blockheads
How to make me bleed money:
Step 1: Combine two of my favorite things.
Will be interesting if this collaboration results in a LEGO x Mario game, or just another LEGO set.
This should have happened years ago, but I’ll take it. Better late than never.
Lego + Mario = no more money
Welp Mega Bloxs must have said bye felicia.
@tourjeff You get it! I would love a big Super Mario LEGO building set. But a Super Mario LEGO video game wouldn't interest me at all.
Farewell, money in my bank account!
This could be nothing but a good thing! I might need to put another shelf in my game room to display all the different pieces!
@boneyard I suppose it's possible that Lego might be joining up with Nintendo to make something other than toys, but it's pretty unlikely. I get that it might've been better for them to add 'likely' or something like that to the sentence, but this doesn't strike me as a 'games journalist not doing their work' scenario.
Neat; if they decide to do The Legend of Zelda sets, I hope they make a Breath of the Wild set under their LEGO Elves series, which I always thought looks exactly right for it!
The headline made me think this was a LEGO Super Mario game.
Hope this means that the BOTW Stable Ideas set will become a reality in the form of an official LEGO The Legend of Zelda series.
I loved Lego as a kid. It seems like Lego has lost its way, I still can't believe they did not purchase Minecraft!
I say this with no hint of verbal irony whatsoever.
Lego is overrated compared to K'nex. Now can they bring us Zelda K'nex sets?
I love that Nintendo is open to all these collaborations these days
@joedick The article states "a range of toys" as well. I just don't see that anywhere, hence my question. I'm not talking about what's likely here, because we all know that already.
I'm curious what the sets will be. Star wars had cool ships and what not. Mario has....pipes?
As someone who owns 115 Amiibos (so far), I'm not sure I'm prepared to handle having official Mario Lego sets in the market.
I knew this day would come, as foretold by the Lego-like levels in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins!
An interactive figure is interesting, but I do hope we get normal minifigs too.
What if this is the next version of Labo? Lego Nintendo Labo sounds like fun to me.
@Trajan I posted two possibilities earlier:
—LEGO Peach’s Castle.
—LEGO Bowser’s Castle.
@DAHstroy Would love an official LEGO Arwing as well!
I love Lego, I have crates of it in storage and several kits sitting on my shelves still. That said - I've never been big on Lego games. I don't dislike them, they just kinda always felt... diluted. Like they didn't feel Lego enough to really remind of Lego, nor do they feel enough like whatever IP they partner with for the games.
I've wanted Nintendo + Lego for soooo long. It seems like an obvious money maker! But I am not interested in Lego Mario. When Lego Zelda comes out I will get excited.
