Re: Talking Point: Could Sony Or Microsoft Release Their Own Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrids?

Tokiwa

I don't see why they should. The home consoles are doing just great in hardware and software sales. People also used to say the mobile market would be the "death" of Nintendo yet the Switch is doing just fine, even the freaking 3DS still sells.

The higher specs also helps, handhelds or mobile will never match the home consoles specs. By the time they do, a new hardware for home consoles will already be out. It's not just graphics, the specs also helps the developers a lot in game features and content. You may personally not like it, but others do.

To be honest i'm more interested to see these companies try new things instead of just going the "hybrid" path. Kinda like how they tried with motion controls and VR, doesn't need to go too crazy, but at least try something new.

I rather see more competition in trying new things than just everyone doing the same damn thing.

Re: Capcom Says Ultra Street Fighter II And Monster Hunter XX Enjoyed Hit Status

Tokiwa

A large portion of the text is already translated with Generations but i have a feeling they will not bother with an official localization.

Most die hard fans already imported the Switch version or used a fan translation in the 3DS version via homebrew.

If i had a choice, i rather let them work on a new proper MH game for the Switch. It seems World is not coming so maybe it's time for a new "Portable" series, like the PSP versions.

Re: Nintendo Says 3DS Will Keep Being Sold Unless Switch Becomes A "One-Per-Person System"

@Pod Maybe this is a bit unrelated but i was watching a few videos of Citra (the 3DS emulator for PC) and when upscaling some games they don't look that bad:

Sure it has some muddy textures in the back but if they could improve the background textures a bit (kinda like how Capcom did with Monster Hunter XX for Switch), they could have released some of the latest 3DS titles on the Switch as well. Like Ultra Sun/Moon, Samus Returns or Fire Emblem Echoes.

I mean, they are doing that with the Captain Toad game port, maybe not with Pokémon but this could work with other games as well.

Re: Nintendo Says 3DS Will Keep Being Sold Unless Switch Becomes A "One-Per-Person System"

Tokiwa

Even if it doesn't get new games people will still buy it for the huge 3DS/DS library alone, also the 3DS games currently can only be played on the 3DS (not counting Citra) so there is that.

The mention about being an entry level handheld for children is spot-on. A 2DS/N2DS + Pokemon and a few Mario games is the perfect birthday/Christmas gift.

There is new gamers (children and adults) everyday and the 3DS is the perfect device to start just for the price and huge library alone.

Unless they make a platform with access to the 3DS library or a cheaper and more accessible Switch model i think it'll keep selling enough to keep the investors happy and justify the continued support.

Re: God Of War And Far Cry 5 Push Nintendo Labo Into Third Place In The UK Charts

Tokiwa

I'm actually surprised it got that high and my jaw would drop if it managed to beat God of freaking War in the west.

It's hard to beat an exclusive that strong with an install base so huge in the west. Maybe in Japan since GoW isn't that strong over there but i wonder how it would fare over there if Nintendo launched it alongside lets say... DQ11 or Monster Hunter.

Re: Kimishima Says Nintendo Has Plans For The 3DS In 2019 And Beyond

Tokiwa

Anyone who says the 3DS should die has no business sense. Switch is already a success with or without the 3DS being around, and the 3DS still sells a lot. In Japan the 3DS sometimes sells more than PS4.

Nintendo would be insane to drop support for the 3DS considering how much it still sells. As long it's profitable they will continue to support it.

Personally i'm more than happy with the huge library the 3DS got (alongside all the DS games backward compatible). But as long it gets more games i'll keep buying them, currently looking forward Persona Q2 and Etrian Odyssey X.

Re: Talking Point: Does Sega's AGES Announcement Mean The Virtual Console Is Dead?

Tokiwa

That's fine if it means getting proper ports. Fix the ancient bugs, give the games more features and better translations.

However that could also mean we'll get less games than Wii U or even the 3DS when it comes to classics since it'll take more time and work to release like this.

But as long it comes to the Switch i'm fine with it, otherwise people will start relying on emulation via homebrew.

Re: Sega Announces AGES For Nintendo Switch, Mega Drive Mini Console

Tokiwa

Yay? I mean, they released these Genesis games on pretty much every platform after the Dreamcast, i was expecting this at some point on the Switch as well. Already got two of these collections (PS2 and PC) so i'm passing this up.

As for the mini console, i could dig on a mini Saturn/Dreamcast, since i pretty much never played any games from those two.

Re: Review: Gal*Gun 2 (Switch)

Tokiwa

I played the first one, as far gameplay goes it's average, the appeal of the game is clearly something else. It's the "you either hate it or love it" type of game.

Not my cup of tea to be honest, i rather spend these $60 somewhere else.

Re: Hands On: Welcoming New Neighbors In Story Of Seasons: Trio Of Towns

Tokiwa

The new events and characters interactions gives a nice touch to the game. I might try marrying Stephanie on my next save file.

I kinda understand why they charged for it, i heard they had to translate over 200k japanese lines and that's quite taxing and costly for a niche series.

Can't wait for the next Story of Seasons.

Re: Review: The Alliance Alive (3DS)

Tokiwa

I'm tempted to buy from the Eshop and start playing tomorrow but i guess i'll try to hold a bit longer for a physical copy, maybe i'll add Radiant Historia together as well.

Atlus always supported older platforms longer than most publishers, as long they keep bringing good games i'll keep buying them. Can't wait for Strange Journey Redux too!

Thanks for the review.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Analysis On Dark Souls: Remastered

Tokiwa

The PC version of DS1 was a mess and the original console version wasn't that great either. Honestly it feels like the game wasn't optimized properly in general.

However there is always optimization and polish to be done until launch day so who knows. It's better to wait and see.

While i love the tech review and performance/graphics comparisons from Digital Foundry i always frowned to their "trailer analysis". I rather see proper testing from the final build of the game.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Secretly Terrified Of An All-Digital Gaming Future

Tokiwa

I have my Steam account for over a decade and upgraded my PC and changed my OS multiple times. My games are still there and fully playable, sure some very old ones requires some workaround in newer systems but pretty much my entire library is still playable and accessible. I can still download and play my CS 1.6 from 10 years ago, same with my oldest collections like Terraria, Dragon Age Origins and Jade Empire.

Sadly for consoles it's not the same thing since that requires having backward compatibility and current consoles are pretty much abandoning the idea (except the Xbox).

If i had the same confident as Steam in other platforms i would probably embrace the digital only idea but for now my 3DS library is pretty much 99% physical, the only exceptions being the eshop only titles and even so i'm considering installing homebrew just to backup these games. For the Switch and PS4 i'm planning the same thing, physical games as much possible.

Also remasters seems to sell a lot with people going as far as double/triple dipping the same game, sometimes with just a change in resolution and barely any new content. No disrespect for those who do this, it's just not my cup of tea.
