2018 is definitely shaping up to be the year of Mega Man, with Capcom bringing both of the classic series legacy collections, two Mega Man X legacy collections, and a brand new Mega Man 11 to the Switch. Of course, there’s some other alternatives available on the eShop already—like Mighty Gunvolt Burst—and a new PEGI listing has revealed another title that may be coming to the storefront soon.
PEGI has just posted a Switch listing for 20XX, a roguelike action platformer that seems to draw a lot of inspiration from Mega Man X. Featuring local and online co-op, over 100 unique power ups, daily and weekly challenges, and all kinds of difficulty modifiers, this certainly seems to be one that you’ll want to keep an eye on for when an official announcement is finally made.
What do you think? Does this look like something you’d be interested in? Which Mega Man X game is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

It's too much like Megaman even down to the title where multiple megaman games would state that it is the year 20XX or something around those numbers.
yeah, i'll stick to Megman 11.
but, if it turns out good. than maybe i'll buy it too.
I love Mega Man, and I can see their love, but I see a lot of bullets on screen. Honestly I suck at video games in general so this probably won’t help me. As a casual gamer I can’t say I’m excited personally, but for those who desire a greater challenge I say game on. It’s just not me.
Wait this came out last year?
After Mighty no 9, now 20XX.....
@N8tiveT3ch On Steam. Switch version is likely though.
I'm getting too old, my eyes are beginning to hurt. Way too much stuff going on on-screen for me to be any good, let along not have a migraine. I'll pass myself.
Way better than any recent MM or MGB. This was a big one from my port wishlist, pretty darn excited if it does come. Fantastic game.
@PhilKenSebben You didn't like Mighty Gunvolt Burst? Why not?
@SwitchVogel Oh, I didnt mean to imply that. Lovely, fun little game. 20XX just scratches the X itch so much better imo
This is a good game and worth checking out, not sure how much interest it will create once all the mega man colelctions have released though.
@YANDMAN I can see this one carving it's own niche due to it being a roguelike X style game. The actual X games have never delved into that before so personally speaking I think it'd be really interesting.
@Anti-Matter The difference is that this one is supposedly good. Personally I'm less than thrilled about the roguelike aspect.
It’s a shame the legacy of Mighty Number 9 lives on. It could inadvertently affect the sales of new Mega Man esque games. It does look similar, to the layman.
@ahsan1234 Why did you just link to a Wrestlemania video??
It'd be good for TV mode... those are some small heroes.
According to Steam reviews it seems to be a pretty solid rogue-lite megaman-ish game. Can't say I really dig the art style tho...
Looks good
@Anti-Matter
Mighty no 2 according to Honest Trailer
@Snow-dust Of course, that is the point. The name indicates where it draws inspiration from. Given that Capcom completely abandoned this style of game, it only makes sense someone else would make it.
That said, I'll be giving this a pass if it does come to Switch, as I've played it to death on steam. It's an outstanding megaman rogue like that does plenty to differentiate itself. If you're a fan of the genre at all, I would definitely say pick this one up.
Just too much of a Mega Man rip-off for me.
@roadrunner343 there is inspiration and then tgeee is copy, it looks more hectic than any megaman game I’ve played and it does look fun but every thing about it draws too much inspiration, it won’t hurt to be a bit more original with the execution of the concept.
Would prefer Stinkoman 20X6.
@Snow-Dust I guess all I can say is watch some videos or give it a shot. I think it does a ton to differentiate itself. Second to second platforming/combat feels familiar, but the rogue elements, stages, armor, bosses, etc... All feel unique. This game has also been available for quite some time before Mega Man 11 was announced, so even the art style was fairly original.
@Dr_Corndog oh how I wish homestar makes a comeback.
It looks good - fluid movement, decent graphics... but I don't like the roguelike concept. Shame its not a traditional plaformer, or a metroidvania.
@roadrunner343 alright, I’ll give it a try, it does look fun regardless of how much I say it looks like a copy.
This is one of my favorite Steam games and I'm glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves. It's a simultaneous co-op version of Mega Man combined with Diablo. Basically, randomized loot/gear with randomized levels. The physics are identical to X4 through X6 and you can play as both X and Zero (Different names and designs of course).
It's really a blast when played local co-op. I hope it does come to Switch. I'll probably buy it again.
Never heard of this but it looks good. I've started to quite like roguelikes recently so I might give it a go.
I hate to be that guy, but this feels like a glorified flash game that plays nothing like a MM game, even if it somewhat looks the part. Yet MM "fans" tend to hail it like it's the best MM game ever.
Unpopular opinion, but Mighty No. 9 was way better than this, I'd rather have a port of it come to Switch, but sadly Comcept just gave up on it and caved to online haters instead of addressing its issues, which is a shame and the real disappointment in MN9's development and Comcept as a company.
I've played this. I'd get it again on Switch to be able to try out co-op. It's a fun concept. I never got particularly far in the few attempts I made, but anyone who can handle Mega Man X should be able to beat one or two levels per run. I got it around the same time as Dead Cells, so I ended up playing that a lot more — both being 2D action platformers with RNG levels, I'd pick Dead Cells over this unless you want to play co-op.
First Gungeon and Necrodancer, and now this gem. Couldn't be happier 20XX is (might be?) coming to 🎭🎭, one of a long list of Steam games I'll finally get to play through properly.
Just like what my ol' pappy used to say, the more Rougelikes the better! (I'd really like to see that as a filter on the eShop, btw)
@nab1 The graphics aren't the best but I assure you the physics and gameplay are nearly perfect recreations of the X4-X6 games.
This is truly a fantastic game. I've had it on steam for over a year and it's evolution from early concept to final game is amazing. Lots of challenge, great gameplay mechanics, and several upgrades make this the game mighty number 9 could never be
"Roguelike," "Inspired by," "Could be coming."
In my best Mark Cuban voice "And for those reasons, I'm out!"
@TeeJay It is fun, iv'e been playing it on steam for about a year or so.
@roadrunner343 It more or less has. A new sbmail was posted on April 1. There were a few new toons last year, too.
The Switch has a lot of awesome Mega Man like games:
Mighty Gunvolt Burst
Gunvolt 1/2
Bleed 1/2
If you are a fan of the genre you must try all those games. All of them are amazing.
Edit: I would add Shovel Knight and A Whole New World to this list.
Have it on Steam. Has the X feel to it & plays better than Mighty No.9. The rogue-stuff puts me off from picking it up often.
It's not Mega Man Zero hard or anything. It's just when I die it's hard to learn from my mistakes since the stages are randomly generated.
Looks great. Can't have enough MM-Games. MGB and ASG were not my type of good MM Clones, but this one looks interesting and more to the Action than text and customizing.
@nab1 You sir deserve 10 likes (not like that really does anything, but hey). But yeah this game looks ugly but after playing it, it plays pretty similar to Mega Man X. Not my cup of tea though. I'd mostly recommend Mighty Gunvolt Burst and Azure Striker for that department as one plays a lot like Classic Mega Man and one has their unique spin on the Mega Man style.
Not a fan of the art style but the game does look fun. But still we have MMX Collection and MM11 coming this year, the poor timing could affect the sales.
Looks good, looks like it plays good, sounds good. I'd play it.
better than nothing 2
Is being rogue-like really a selling feature anymore? Completely turns me off of games now... Market is saturated.
I love me a good roguelike but I suck at Mega Man games in general. As cool as this sounds, I will probably have to give this a pass unless the game itself is more forgiving. The graphics and colors look very, very cool though.
little late for this but i'll chip in. I own 20XX on steam and while people would be on the fence, it really is a great indie game that pays serious nods to the X series.
While every layout is pre-generated its obviously pulling its parts from a small available pool but the good news is that they update the game every so often with balance changes, new building blocks, and a new DLC character so far (the char isn't free, rest has been.)
The Co-Op works surprisingly well for what it is. Theres a running joke with it where the loading screen will say something like "loading janky netcode" because when it first came out, it REALLY was. had major issues, but its all been ironed out save for a few things so its a running gag. playing it with a friend is a blast either way. Can even co-op daily runs and theres leaderboards for solo and co-op runs for those that like a challenge. (for the record the bosses are like any other megaman game. challenging at first, cakewalk when you know them.)
EDIT:oh right, forgot to add a serious detail for co op. There is a major difference between the local and online co op. In local co op, you share the same screen. theres no splitscreen so if you get farther apart from each other, the screen widens to accommodate for you two. basically you'll get really small so staying together in local is key (but very possible.)
In online co op, this is not the case. you each have your own screen and can be as far apart as you want in the map without any changes other than knowing your partner is somewhere out there in the map. (entering a glory zone teleports both players to it.) You cannot enter the boss area without both touching the door.
Lastly, there is a revive system. if a player dies, the living one can find a giant capsule randomly in the map. It'll just poof in front of you from time to time and costs half the living player's life to revive them.
Still its a solid 8/10 for me. Potentially a 9 if they add far more building blocks for the randomized generator. It does feel great to play although I don't recommend playing too much in a short time or you'll burn yourself out.
