Alex spends a lot of time talking about a "2D Zelda" over footage of A Link Between Worlds, which looks an awful lot like a 3D game to me 🤔 Would a 2D Zelda not be more like A Link To The Past or even Zelda 2: Link's Adventure?
@Stocksy "I need to play this more as I’m absolutely no where near unlocking the roster!! Seems to be taking forever!"
Just a quick 2.30 min Smash seems to be the way to go. I've had new characters appear after every third or four match. World of Light and classic mode takes far longer to unlock characters. I'm up to 68 unlocked now.
Ultimate is fast becoming my favourite game on Switch. So much content. Meticulous character balancing. Gorgeous to control, to look at and to listen to. I'm finding it hard to fault it in any way. Take a bow, Sakurai. You are an absolute genius and Nintendo is blessed to have you.
Why aren't there holes in all four sides? Seems sort of odd. The candle could be emitting light from all four sides, with a different image on each. Also, at the risk of sounding like a total killjoy, could they not have lit a candle and turned the lights off so you can see how it functions?
The screen size and resolution makes it very hard to go back to after becoming accustomed to the Switch. I love my 3DS, but it's gathering dust, quite literally.
@Gravitron "The last time a GTA game came out on a nintendo console was Chinatown wars on DS about 10 years ago."
Chinatown wars was great. I loved the drug economy. A great way to make quick cash. Also, the top down view for driving was never better than in that game.
1. Official Portable Dock
2. Official D Pad Joycon
3. SNES, N64 and Dreamcast Virtual Console
4. New F-zero
5. New Starfox
6. New Metroid
7. Netflix
8. Web browser
9. Red Dead or GTA
10. New Mario Galaxy
@Darknyht Is there not room for both of these things? I really don't see how adding a female avatar to a game diminishes anyone's enjoyment of said game. I've been playing Zelda for almost 30 years now and it wouldn't change the game for me in the slightest if there was an option to choose a female Link. I literally can't see a valid reason not to do it.
@Darknyht I'm not suggesting it's as simple as a character model swap, but I also think it's a lot less work than you are proposing. To have more than one optional player character in a game like Zelda - where there is little-to-no voice acting - is not beyond a developer as talented and well resourced as Nintendo. Even in BOTW there is very little spoken dialogue outside of the cutscenes. Two hours in the entire game, tops. Zelda is the ideal game for attempting something like this, because Link is such an empty vessel, and because there are so many female Zelda fans. Do you think a game like Mass Effect with it's branching story, and both male and female, fully voiced player characters was not a much more difficult task than what I, and others are proposing? If Overwatch's Tracer and Ellie from The Last Of Us have proven anything, it is that there is an acceptance and an appetite for more diverse representation in gaming, beyond muscle-bound white men and scantily-clad buxom women. I'm not saying we should completely throw out Link, but would it hurt anyone to give female players the option of having an avatar which more accurately represents them? If the developers of BOTW really wanted "a more neutral character that players could see themselves as" then why shouldn't there be a female Link? I've been playing Zelda since I was 8 years old (30 years ago! Holy moly!) and it wouldn't upset me in the slightest if there was a female Link option in there. It literally wouldn't change the game for me, but it would be huge for others.
Well it wouldn't change your experience of the game at all if they had an option for male or female at the start when you are picking your character's name. From that point on the game would remain exactly the same, and Link would be as you've always imagined him. They wouldn't be changing an established character (who has never spoken a word of proper dialogue in 30 years I might add) they would be creating a new one, just like you have suggested. Is the world of Zelda too small to have an optional female protagonist?
@CrazyMetroid "look man. Link should simply just stay male. Thanks.
Might as well make Samus a man while you are at it."
The developers of BOTW have said they want you to be able to see yourself as the character. The developers of Metroid have said no such thing. My daughters are much more inclined to play a game if you can choose a female character because it makes them feel like they are in the game. It's not just thirty-something males who play video games.
It's long overdue that you get to choose a female or male Link. If they really want you to be able to see yourself as the character, why not let you choose 'Linkle'?
I'm very happy with the quality of first party games on Switch. Reggie is right to admit they lost momentum (early to mid 2018 wasn't great for me, software release wise) but we've had so many quality 1st and 3rd party titles to tide us over in between (Mario+Rabbids, ARMS, Rocket League, Doom, Splatoon2) that it hasn't really hurt too much. I'm really looking forward to 2019 and all the confirmed and unconfirmed games which are on the way. Metroid has me foaming at the mouth with anticipation. 😃
I really wanted to like this game because it had some fantastic elements. The combat, graphics and movement were great, but it gave me awful hand cramps so I could only play it for 5 mins at a time.
I'm having a great time with Warframe. Just building my first frame (Frost) and really enjoying the grind. Move over Rocket League: there's a new obsession in my life! 😁
Toys-to-Life is dead. If you are forced to spend hundreds of bucks to experience everything in a game, and have your house filled with more useless plastic, is it any wonder?
@Shiryu "I think we need a Game Boy Mini with Tetris ASAP..."
Personally, I'd prefer a Gameboy with the same form factor, a bigger, better screen and the ability to connect to a gameboy/gameboy advance eshop. That would be rad.
I'm really enjoying all of the changes that have been made to Pokemon GO. I played it to death when it first released and was walking miles extra every day because of it. Unfortunately my phone died and the new one I got didn't run GO so well, so I gave up for a couple of years. It really is a much better game now, especially with regards to Gyms, Raids and missions. They have added so much cool content.
I remember playing the original on SNES when I was around 13. My friend got it and we all had a sleep over in his house. We played Street Fight 2, Earthworm Jim and then Bubsy. We all fell asleep when Bubsy came on.
I enjoyed my time with Odyssey (yes-see) but I have no urge to go back and play it. Still haven't played XC2 even though I love that series. With a wife, three kids and working from home I just can't have a timesink like that in my life. Sad to say but times change.
