Re: 'The Zelda Effect' Causes Game Sales To Drop This May (Europe)

Synecdoche

@Maxz You’re kinda overthinking it. They’re just comparing May 2024 sales to May 2023. This year’s don’t match up because last May, one of the biggest games ever was released.

If you compare box office results for the month that Avengers: Endgame was released with the same month a year later, I bet the box office was down too. Because one of the biggest movies ever had been released.

Re: Saber Interactive CEO Doesn't Think $70 Video Games Are Sustainable

Synecdoche

@Phin68 I remember at least one $99.99 game on Genesis; by that math TOTK would’ve cost $200. So in a sense you could argue we did better. And it’s true that most games today have been $59.99 for some time, while development costs have increased.

On the other hand, I never asked for photorealistic everything (currently playing Stardew Valley — no ray tracing here). And I don’t believe every company who’ll claim they need to charge $70 to recoup costs, when we’ve seen so much greedflation recently. Which leads to the fact that many regular people are hurting. And not just from the last few years; wages have stagnated for my entire lifetime. And there’s no end in sight. So I agree that when push comes to shove, many may simply buy fewer games.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Isn't Coming Until 2025, What's Nintendo Got Up Its Sleeve This Year?

Synecdoche

Clearly the delay isn’t an ideal scenario. They’ve said that XCX would be too expensive. Metroid Prime 4 seems unlikely to appear before Switch 2 does. And I don’t imagine they could start designing any amiibo today and still get it in stores by the end of the year.

But Twilight Princess HD, Wind Waker HD, Super Mario Galaxy 2, a Pokémon remake, and Metroid Prime 2 Remastered might be possible. I’d also go for Yoshi’s Woolly World, and a Kirby port. Not sure there’s enough time for Miitopia 2, or the FE4 remake even though it’s been rumored for years.

They could release MK8D with all the DLC on cart if they wanted. Ditto with SSBU. Throw us a bone, and just charge $59.99 each at this point.

Can we get a BoxBoy series compilation, or Pushmo compilation? Maybe Snipperclips 2, Part Time UFO 2, Good Job! 2, or The Stretchers 2? Obviously none of these would be system-sellers, but they were good games, and I’m trying to think small and reasonable. It’s an interesting challenge.
