NIS America has revealed Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha and Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo for Nintendo Switch, two collections of classic shoot 'em ups expected to launch in early 2020.
Some of these titles are actually available on Switch already as standalone releases, but we imagine the bundles will be hugely tempting for Psikyo fans regardless. Here are the games available in each bundle:
Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha
STRIKERS 1945: A mysterious organization, CANY, tries to conquer the world by making use of overpowering weapons. Only Strikers can defeat them and restore peace.
STRIKERS 1945 II: The Strikers are still mobilized to repel a new threat, the FGR faction, which has huge robots!
STRIKERS 1945 III: A cloud of micro-robots aliens, the "Nanites", has infiltrated the military bases terrestrial. Strikers must use new ships and formidable weapons to repel the invader!
SOIL DIVIDE: Ifter, the Emperor of Evil, tries to metamorphose into a demon in order to conquer the world. It is up to three powerful heroes to stand against him and put an end to his vile designs.
Dragon Blaze: Four knights riding dragons are trying to defeat the King of Evil. How will this quest finish? On a triumph or a defeat?
ZERO GUNNER 2: The Zero Gunner squadron is mobilized to free the world from the grip of Igem, an evil conglomerate with a weapon of mass destruction: ONI.
Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo
Samurai Aces Episode I: The shogun's daughter has been kidnapped by an evil sect. Six unlikely heroes have the mission to save her before she is sacrificed to resurrect a demon!
GUNBARICH: This is a spin-off of the "Gunbird" series. Gunbarich is a charming and colourful mix of brick breakers and shmup featuring Marion, the young witch, and Grutan, who handles the anchor like no other.
Samurai Aces Episode II: TENGAI: Shinrano, a militarist sect, captured the shogun's daughter in order to sacrifice her in the name of the demon they worship. Only a group of misfits is able to save them, but for that, they will have to rise to the occasion and become heroes!
Samurai Aces Episode III: SENGOKU CANNON: With this third opus, the series left for the first time arcades to venture directly on console, without forgetting the ingredients that made its legend.
GUNBIRD: What do a witch, a robot, an adventurer with a jet pack, a martial arts expert and a fighting monkey have in common? They are all looking for pieces of the magic mirror in order to fulfil their wishes!
GUNBIRD 2: Seven strange warriors have to face a challenge: recover the legendary potion from a God to fulfil their dearest wishes!
Limited Edition releases for both bundles have also been announced. As you can see in the images below, they'll contain physical copies of the games, a set of soundtrack CDs, art cards, art schematics, and a collector's box.
Hands up, then... Who's going to be picking up both sets as soon as they go on sale? Let us know in the comments below.

Well, I -was- gonna go on a buying spree for most of these, but I may as well wait for these collections now!
If the price is right, releasing them as 2 different versions could be a good idea for people who might have already bought one or two of the standalone releases... except in my case where I have Strikers 1945 from one collection and Gunbird from the other...
Take my money!
I was so planning on getting Gunbird soon, so definitely waiting on these collections now.
So these are all the games that are already out on the three collections but now re-packaged as two colelctions LOL, talk about a cash grab.
Let’s get some of the better games on here, like Gradius 3 (with the speed fixed) or Axelay or R-Type freaking 3!
I own all but 2 of these, Strikers 99 and Sengoku Cannon, and that's only because they haven't been released on Switch yet. I'm not sure I'd bother with Sengoku Cannon anyway as it's crap. Strikers 99 though should already be here as it was confirmed to be on the way last year. I hope it doesn't stay exclusive to this collection.
A western physical release for these was unexpected, and I'm very interested. I had Gunbird and Zero Gunner on the Dreamcast already and considered importing the Psikyo collections from Play-Asia.
I'll wait now! Limited Editions look pretty nice too.
These games were previously released physically in Korea, only in three collections rather than the two for Japan and this NIS release. Since NIS is in a financial crisis, these games are an easy flip for profit as they are all already translated. Looks like I'll be double dipping and giving away my Korean copies.
@Mr_Muscle I would put the majority of these games above all 3 of those as I think they've held up far better. Better graphics, better gameplay and no slowdown.
I'll gladly buy both on physical, this is awesome.
Should do a thunderforce selection 🤔😭🤩that would've a daimond. Ooooh yeah😐🤓😁
Any idea who's stocking it?
Awesome, hopefully they (the standard editions at least) get a UK release too!
I have the first two strikers games and was planning to get the rest of the psikyo games but I'll wait and see if these come out in the UK now....
I also have a monitor with a better field of view now so portrait gaming will be a pleasure!
Are there any psikyo games on the eshop that aren't included here?
I'm going to want these badly, but I've already bought almost all those games digitally. I'll have to see how much money I've got to splurge on the special editions...
Gunbarich(not a shooter, but awesome Arkanoid variant), Tengai, Strikers 2, Dragon Blaze, Zero Gunner, so many great shooters!
Although bought several of these digitally and had Volumes 1 & 2 of the Asian english releases, decided to order both of these as was given a 15% discount. Guess I’ll sell the 2 Asian english releases. I had been toying with replacing them with the Japanese releases; guess this replaced that idea.
On that note, when is Strikers III getting its digital release??
I've already got the Asian "versions" of these. Different games are on each release, but the collection still totals up to the same.
So...that's what? The fourth Switch release of these?
Just as I picked up "Psikyo Collection" 1 and 2 (and just recently vol.3), they released "Psikyo Shooting Library" vol.1 and 2 which combined the games from those 3 releases into two new ones. Now this appears to be a release of those, only with extra goodies, such as soundtracks...which I'd love to have, but yeah, not double-dipping on those alone.
Depending on the price, I might try and sell my 3 volumes and get these later on. But otherwise, I'm just gonna have to do without the soundtracks.
Can some bring the Raiden II game over please ? Thanks!
Great news. They were available, but in different packs and in Asia only. I hope they get published in Europe too and in normal stores such as Amazon.
Doh, I already imported these
I was patiently waiting for this news!! They will both be mine!!
Will Strikers 1945 Part III get a digital release?
These are both available on play Asia right now. I highly recommend the Alpha collection because Strikers 1945 1-3 are highly recommended.
Hopefully they fix motion sensitivity in Strikers 1945. When I move just a little, the plan flies into bullets on the other side, and it's so frustrating.
It's Sol Divide, not Soil.
I already own a few of these for the Switch--Strikers 1945, Zero Gunner 2, and Tengoku--and own every one of these that had a console release on Saturn or Dreamcast. Still gonna definitely buy these collections--might even spring for the Special Editions, I love Psikyo games.
I know we've got Esp Ra De on the way, but I would love to see similar collections for Cave's catalogue. Insta-buy for me.
just give us the other compilations already..
Wouldn’t the people who wanted to buy the physical or digital releases already have done so by now? Back when these games were coming out on Saturn (Japan), it seemed like every Atlus release was in an old school chubby double wide jewel case with the game and manual on one side and a bunch of stupid garbage bound knick-knacks stuffed in the other. So, it’s fitting to see these comps re-released (in thankfully less volumes) with compact discs and dead trees, but I’m totally good, bro. Strikers III is all that those of us in digital world are missing, and seeing how it was physical only for so long, I’ve accepted the fact that it may never be served ala carte. I’m in the camp that believes Psikyo games got worse with sequels (there’s also a camp that believes the opposite), and Switch is basically the PCEngine/Saturn on steroids when it comes to the abundance of shoot em ups, so I ain’t sweatn it.
Very surprised this is getting a north american release. I bought them from playasia under the name Psikyo Shooting Library Vol 1 and 2. I would have waited if I had known.
@OorWullie Right, perhaps from a technical perspective they work better, but after having played them over the years I don't feel as attached to them as some of the older games from the SNES. Heck, even a nice port of Raiden 2 would be better than these, for me!
I've bought the games I want already, the rest are just...meh
I was seriously thinking about grabbing the SEA releases of these a few months ago and now I'm glad I ultimately passed on those. I will be snagging the LEs of these for those sweet sweet OSTs
I own all three of the psikyo collections from Playasia and they are great! Definitely a great shmup collection that I can't recommend enough. Just got the hori rap v Hayabusa and it makes playing these shooters a pleasure. Every game in the collection is fun and challenging.
The extras are nice, but really.. if you won the Asian collections (3 of them) you are good. They have better cover art, and each game has it's own icon (Now if Nintendo would just fix their menu we could organize these games into folders)

Can anyone please explain what is in each collection/bundle/shooting or whatever? If I buy all of them I will end up with games that I already own, is not it?
