Dispatch Games is bringing Jaleco's classic shooter The Game Paradise to the Nintendo Switch in the west, it has been revealed.
The Game Paradise: Crusin Mix Special is based on The Game Paradise / Game Tengoku, which originally hit arcades back in 1995. Like Konami's Parodius, it's a title which playfully lampoons other arcade shooter titles, and was ported to the Sega Saturn in Japan in 1997, along with a VHS tape which contained an animated cartoon explaining the story of the game.
Crusin Mix Special was released in Japan on the PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017, and DLC introduced the legendary ship from Toaplan's Tatsujin /Truxton. The Switch version will be coming to both the US and Europe this fall.
“We are extremely pleased to bring such a beloved title to the west” said Brian Schorr, Founder of Dispatch Games. “The Game Paradise: Crusin Mix Special adds yet another great shmup to our ever growing library of shooters.”
Two editions will be available at launch; the Standard Edition (which will cost $39.99) includes:
- The Game Paradise: Cruisin Mix Special for Nintendo Switch
- DLC from the previous version included on the cart. (Clarice, Homura Banto, Voice pack + Tatsujin)
The Limited Edition ($99.99) includes:
- The Game Paradise: Cruisin Mix Special for Nintendo Switch
- DLC from previous version included on the cart. (Clarice, Homura Banto, Voice pack + Tatsujin)
- Memorial Works art book
- Vinyl album AND CD soundtrack set
- 21 reproduction Jaleco game flyers
- Custom Collectable Coin – Jaleco/Clarice Bomber
You can pre-order both editions here.

As a long time shoot em up and Parodius fan, this looks right up my alley!
I ordered this like a reflex reaction from Dispatch lol.
Sweet. Always love more shumups.
I never heard of this actually, looks like a fun shoot em up though. I may have to get it.
I don't believe I've heard of this either. Is it like Jaleco's Parodius?
I love these classic 90's arcade style shoot-em-ups. It is what got me into the genre.
Not a bad game, owned it on Saturn.
GAME TENGOKU!! One of my favorite Saturn shmups!
I used to have the arcade board of this, it was a really good shmup
First thought: Awesome. Yet another great classic shmup coming to the Switch.
Second thought: $40?!?! Pass
I wanted pick this up for the PS4, now I can
I am so excited for this... now which version do I get....
....But is there a Sexy sequel?
(...sorry. lol)
I thought I'd be the only to think $40 is maybe a little too much. Only @embison mentioned that
This is a great game! I've only watched YouTube videos of it's gameplay, but I really like the visuals and music. Can't wait to play it! Now Konami needs to bring Parodius to Switch!
Day 1 from me. Never have enough for SHMUP.
I'm totally getting this. I currently have 45 Switch games.
@embison
Yeah, I had the same thought. Love my shmups, but $40 for the standard edition is a bit steep with so many other greats already on Switch at half the price.
Pre-ordered, it looks great and I have all of the Dispatch Games released so far.
Do we know if this will make it to retail (like Psyvariar Delta?) Or should I lock in a preorder?
Looks delightfully bonkers. Will keep my eye on on this.
Interestingly looking shooter. As usual with shooters, it will go straight onto my watch list. I rarely buy shooters day one because their life span is so short and I have so many other games to play.
I never liked many games in this genre, but for some reason the ones I do like tend to be more expensive. Parodius and Darius are my jam, but that's pretty much it. Might go for this if I can get it cheaper, already feel dirty after paying 30$ for Darius Burst on PS4 last year.
Played this at MAGfest at the beginning of the year. It's wild! I'm definitely picking it up!
Oh hey Jaleco, are they still kickin around? Or did someone buy their properties.
@Tempestryke Jaleco went under a few years back and i believe all their assets were sold off to a small japanese publisher who are now rereleasing loads of their old titles.
This has literally nothing in common with Parodius.
Great game used to have this on my Saturn with the very Japanese VHS that came with the boxset
I was interested until I saw the two price points and the fact this is just a company cashing in on an HD remake of someone else's work. No way are the four additional items in the special edition worth 1.5x the price of the game. Plus, they announced separate, paid DLC and the game isn't even out yet. And to top all of that, TATE mode doesn't even cover the entire height of the screen!
@YANDMAN Did you watch the video? Even Wikipedia compares it to Parodius. Just because it doesn't take directly after Gradius doesn't mean the two aren't similar.
@AshFoxX $30 for Darius Burst is worth it, I think. Grabbed it on Steam for around that price and it's one of my favorite shmups.
Preordered!
I just hope Dispatch Games will be able to deliver this one and Radirgy Swag on time, those 20 delays for their western release of Psyvariar Delta were ridiculous.
@Kilroy Watch the video? I've owned it since its release on the saturn and i have this version also. So the opinion of whoever wrote the wikipedia page is gospel. Are we now to assume that any game that utilises a cartoon aesthetic is also the same as Parodius?
