They did the same thing with SwSh’s DLC, so not too surprising, but let’s just hope they don’t push the update too far in advance or it’ll be datamined and any surprise Pokémon could be ruined.
Really, though, in my opinion, they need to do more and meatier spin-offs (i.e. not on phones), commission outside developers to work on remakes or alternate takes akin to Legends Arceus, and then Game Freak should make a new generation every five years (as opposed to three), and all the core series games should get supplemented with DLC over the course of two years. It gives more time for development (which is what’s really needed at this time), spin-offs make the wait between games more bearable, and it keeps content steadily coming.
Using genned Pokémon shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Scarlet and Violet make building a competitive Pokémon stupidly easy. I’ve got dozens of Ability Patches, Ability Capsules, Tera Shards, Mints, Bottle Caps, Vitamins, and Stat berries all from playing the game normally, and the upcoming Mochi are going to make it even easier. Why travel all the way to Japan if you’re going to risk getting caught with hacked Pokémon? It’s not that hard!
Yeah, it saves time, but you need to be ready to accept the consequences if you get caught taking the risk. And saving time is hardly an issue. Make your team on Showdown first where you can endlessly test and edit it on a whim and then spend the time to build it in game.
Unfortunately, the Stadium games just don’t have the same usefulness on Switch without the GameBoy connectivity. Without that functionality, you’re left with only using the Rental Pokémon, which is far from fun when trying to complete anything beyond the Round 1 stuff. The mini games and quizzes are a blast, but when that’s all the game really offers, it definitely isn’t worth a 9/10. I’d give this version of the game a 7/10 at best.
I can’t believe I interrupted my Pokémon Sleep gameplay session for this…
They need to realize that the audience for these presentations consists of people interested in core series games or non-mobile based spinoffs. If they had trimmed out the mobile game stuff, in-person events, animation stuff, and focused solely on Detective Pikachu Returns and SV DLC, it would’ve elevated the presentation to “it was meh” status rather than the “what a waste of time” status it currently has.
Makes sense. We’re getting close to the release of Teal Mask, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they go further into detail on both it and Indigo Mask. In addition, this would be the perfect time for them to talk more about Detective Pikachu Returns and to advertise events in Pokémon Masters EX, Cafe Remix, Sleep, Unite, and more importantly in August: the Pokémon World Championships.
I’m enjoying this app so far, but the sloooooow burn is getting a bit irritating. The review is right in that this game cannot be rushed (since you can really only sleep once or twice a day). I’ll stick with it for now, though.
@Tyranexx We don’t need the regulation. If one market demands it, they won’t create entirely separate molds just to satisfy one market (especially one as large as the EU). They’ll just standardize the design of products across the world to stay compliant. Which means the US will also get products that have removable batteries. It’s quite refreshing, actually.
@Switch_Pro I don’t think Niantic would want to take the time and money to implement this into Pokémon GO. Their true business is farming (and subsequently selling) location data, and a sleep function would be counter intuitive to that business model.
Yeah, the monetization is there, but I don’t really see how they plan to make money off of this. The game aspect doesn’t really seem all that interesting, let alone engaging enough to hook most people into paying for the microtransactions. Some will bite, but I don’t see it being profitable.
In fact, I don’t even really view this as a game. It seems to be more of a lifestyle app, which I think will be its strong suit.
I had never heard of this game before this review, so I went ahead and bought it.
Wow. For an NES game, this is incredible. The physics-based platforming is extremely impressive. And the review wasn’t lying. This game is beyond difficult. More so than any other NES-era game I’ve ever played. But I fell in love with it. I’ve since preordered the physical version of the re-release on Switch and bought a reproduction of the NES version.
It’s not that they don’t have any new ideas for F-Zero. If they really wanted, they could come up with one.
I think it just comes down to money. With how expensive game development is these days, I doubt an F-Zero would turn any kind of noteworthy profit. Realistically, only the Nintendo die-hards would buy it.
Nintendo: We’ve given you all the opportunity to create your own things, from whatever you can imagine with Ultrahand in Tears of the Kingdom, and now, by taking your own pictures in Everybody 1-2 Switch! What ideas do you all have? The internet hive mind: g e n i t a l s
I have noticed that they’ve really made strides in making sure that special edition systems are readily available. The Zelda and Pokémon SwOLED would easily be big targets for scalpers, but Nintendo has been consistently keeping them stocked.
I doubt I’ll have the issue with getting whatever the next Nintendo system is because I usually preorder day one, but I do remember when nobody could find Switches for the first year or so after they released.
I get the idea of being surrounded by a bunch of fans all enjoying the hype.
But at the same time, I like taking in the Directs without any other noise around me, so having a bunch of screaming people over the Direct doesn’t sound too fun.
Using Shields as carriers for strong monster parts would’ve been nice to think of. I also didn’t take advantage of the unstick service in Tarrey Town for a while.
No Zelda game has yet to match Twilight Princess for that feeling of sheer uneasiness. And lots of wtf moments in that game too. Lanayru’s vision, Arbiter’s Grounds, the skulltula designs, the Oocca. That game makes me feel like I need to take a shower.
@Agent_P It’s already possible to get Dolphin on a Steam Deck. It just requires a little more work than simply installing it, which is what the Steam release would have allowed.
@OorWullie That would be interesting, but this story sounds…vaguely familiar…like something a beloved Japanese gaming publisher that used to make video game hardware tried once and it backfired immensely…
@CharlieGirl Game Freak co-owns the Pokémon Company with Nintendo and Creatures. How would Game Freak be shackled to the whims of something they have ownership of? It doesn’t make sense.
This DLC has me doing the whole Leo DiCaprio pointing meme throughout the whole experience. I’m loving it. I’m going for that sweet 100% completion and it’s been great! Just got to the Black Mountains.
The NSO rerelease does not warrant an 8/10, imo. Without the ability to transfer in Pokémon, the battles in the game can become immensely challenging, to the point that it’s not fun. While you can look up the movesets for each battle in each Cup or Gym Battle, you’re still going to probably be lacking in areas. And besides, what’s the fun in looking up a walkthrough? The mini-games are still pretty tight, but when that’s the main draw, there isn’t much else to experience as a single player. And the battles somewhat drag on.
I’d probably give this version a 5/10. It would be an 8/10 with the ability to transfer in Pokémon, but since that’s not currently a thing, I’m gonna be skipping this one.
@Ryu_Niiyama Could be any number of reasons. Maybe they’re a disgruntled employee? Maybe they were excited by what they saw and wanted to share? Or the most likely reason, in my opinion: clout.
Why yes, I did use tilt controls. I was young and impressionable, so I didn’t think anything of it. But I cannot go back to it nowadays, it just doesn’t work the same as it used to.
100% the Mario movie is getting a sequel. And really, I hope this is the only property that Illumination touches. I do not want them to have the keys to any Nintendo franchise that relies more on story than Mario.
@Olmectron Yes, but in defense of Miyamoto and Nintendo, Illumination hasn’t attempted anything close to resembling a competent plot since Despicable Me 1. They’re not interested in making art.
6.5/10 The backgrounds, set pieces, details in the world, animation, action choreography, score, and acting (yes, even Chris Pratt) were all good. And Bowser steals every scene he’s in. But, the pace is way too fast, the random pop songs are incredibly distracting, there is no character development or arc, and the plot is paper thin and predictable. I knew not to expect much in the plot and character departments as Nintendo likes to keep Mario basic and Illumination has no skill (or interest) in making compelling narratives, but I expected something that was at the very least serviceable.
This isn’t a movie for movie lovers. It’s for fans and kids. Harmless and fun at times, but not all that good.
This is about what I expected. It’s made for fans, kids, and their families, but no one else. It also follows Illumination’s traditional film-making that focuses more on being appealing to kids rather than having any actual meaning. It’s actually kind of disappointing. Illumination has demonstrated that kids movies don’t need to be thought-provoking or poignant. They just have to be profitable, and this attitude has invaded animation, to its detriment. Almost all animated movies these days are built this way, turning one of my favorite film mediums into a shell of its former self. We still get stellar animated movies every now and again (looking at Puss in Boots 2), but they’re a rare breed in a candy-coated, pop-song saturated market.
So it’s a movie for fans, families, and nobody else.
Sounds about right for an Illumination movie. I’ll probably be too obsessed with the references to focus on the movie’s plot, characters, or themes (which I don’t expect much of), but at worst, it seems like it’ll just be harmless fun.
