Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality

Shepdawg1

Well…it’s something…

Really, though, in my opinion, they need to do more and meatier spin-offs (i.e. not on phones), commission outside developers to work on remakes or alternate takes akin to Legends Arceus, and then Game Freak should make a new generation every five years (as opposed to three), and all the core series games should get supplemented with DLC over the course of two years. It gives more time for development (which is what’s really needed at this time), spin-offs make the wait between games more bearable, and it keeps content steadily coming.

Re: Pokémon World Championships Disqualifies Scarlet And Violet Pros Using Hacked Monsters

Shepdawg1

Using genned Pokémon shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Scarlet and Violet make building a competitive Pokémon stupidly easy. I’ve got dozens of Ability Patches, Ability Capsules, Tera Shards, Mints, Bottle Caps, Vitamins, and Stat berries all from playing the game normally, and the upcoming Mochi are going to make it even easier. Why travel all the way to Japan if you’re going to risk getting caught with hacked Pokémon? It’s not that hard!

Yeah, it saves time, but you need to be ready to accept the consequences if you get caught taking the risk. And saving time is hardly an issue. Make your team on Showdown first where you can endlessly test and edit it on a whim and then spend the time to build it in game.

Re: Review: Pokémon Stadium 2 - A Sequel Of Gold (& Silver) Standard

Shepdawg1

Unfortunately, the Stadium games just don’t have the same usefulness on Switch without the GameBoy connectivity. Without that functionality, you’re left with only using the Rental Pokémon, which is far from fun when trying to complete anything beyond the Round 1 stuff. The mini games and quizzes are a blast, but when that’s all the game really offers, it definitely isn’t worth a 9/10. I’d give this version of the game a 7/10 at best.

Re: Talking Point: Should The Pokémon Company Stick To Just One Pokémon Presents A Year?

Shepdawg1

I can’t believe I interrupted my Pokémon Sleep gameplay session for this…

They need to realize that the audience for these presentations consists of people interested in core series games or non-mobile based spinoffs. If they had trimmed out the mobile game stuff, in-person events, animation stuff, and focused solely on Detective Pikachu Returns and SV DLC, it would’ve elevated the presentation to “it was meh” status rather than the “what a waste of time” status it currently has.

Re: The Next Pokémon Presents Could Be Soon, According To A New Datamine

Shepdawg1

Makes sense. We’re getting close to the release of Teal Mask, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they go further into detail on both it and Indigo Mask. In addition, this would be the perfect time for them to talk more about Detective Pikachu Returns and to advertise events in Pokémon Masters EX, Cafe Remix, Sleep, Unite, and more importantly in August: the Pokémon World Championships.

Re: Hands On: Pokémon Sleep (Open Beta) - An Absolute Snoozefest

Shepdawg1

Yeah, the monetization is there, but I don’t really see how they plan to make money off of this. The game aspect doesn’t really seem all that interesting, let alone engaging enough to hook most people into paying for the microtransactions. Some will bite, but I don’t see it being profitable.

In fact, I don’t even really view this as a game. It seems to be more of a lifestyle app, which I think will be its strong suit.

Re: Mini Review: Gimmick! Special Edition - A Rare And Wonderful 8-Bit Gem

Shepdawg1

I had never heard of this game before this review, so I went ahead and bought it.

Wow. For an NES game, this is incredible. The physics-based platforming is extremely impressive. And the review wasn’t lying. This game is beyond difficult. More so than any other NES-era game I’ve ever played. But I fell in love with it. I’ve since preordered the physical version of the re-release on Switch and bought a reproduction of the NES version.

Re: Nintendo Aims To Reduce Scalping Of "New Hardware"

Shepdawg1

I have noticed that they’ve really made strides in making sure that special edition systems are readily available. The Zelda and Pokémon SwOLED would easily be big targets for scalpers, but Nintendo has been consistently keeping them stocked.

I doubt I’ll have the issue with getting whatever the next Nintendo system is because I usually preorder day one, but I do remember when nobody could find Switches for the first year or so after they released.

Re: Review: Pokémon Stadium - The Original 151 Brought To Life With Style

Shepdawg1

The NSO rerelease does not warrant an 8/10, imo. Without the ability to transfer in Pokémon, the battles in the game can become immensely challenging, to the point that it’s not fun. While you can look up the movesets for each battle in each Cup or Gym Battle, you’re still going to probably be lacking in areas. And besides, what’s the fun in looking up a walkthrough? The mini-games are still pretty tight, but when that’s the main draw, there isn’t much else to experience as a single player. And the battles somewhat drag on.

I’d probably give this version a 5/10. It would be an 8/10 with the ability to transfer in Pokémon, but since that’s not currently a thing, I’m gonna be skipping this one.

Re: Poll: What Score Would You Give To The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

Shepdawg1

6.5/10
The backgrounds, set pieces, details in the world, animation, action choreography, score, and acting (yes, even Chris Pratt) were all good. And Bowser steals every scene he’s in. But, the pace is way too fast, the random pop songs are incredibly distracting, there is no character development or arc, and the plot is paper thin and predictable. I knew not to expect much in the plot and character departments as Nintendo likes to keep Mario basic and Illumination has no skill (or interest) in making compelling narratives, but I expected something that was at the very least serviceable.

This isn’t a movie for movie lovers. It’s for fans and kids. Harmless and fun at times, but not all that good.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, And They're All Over The Place

Shepdawg1

This is about what I expected. It’s made for fans, kids, and their families, but no one else. It also follows Illumination’s traditional film-making that focuses more on being appealing to kids rather than having any actual meaning. It’s actually kind of disappointing. Illumination has demonstrated that kids movies don’t need to be thought-provoking or poignant. They just have to be profitable, and this attitude has invaded animation, to its detriment. Almost all animated movies these days are built this way, turning one of my favorite film mediums into a shell of its former self. We still get stellar animated movies every now and again (looking at Puss in Boots 2), but they’re a rare breed in a candy-coated, pop-song saturated market.
