@sixrings I mean, Sonic Colors Ultimate, for example, couldn't even run on the Switch and that was a Wii game.
So it's not always down to that. The real issue could be because of development bloat. A lot of these companies, especially ones in the west, have really poor management over their development.
@Markatron84 I'm a bit more of a stickler on that front tho. If a company does sell me something, but they sell it to me in a broken, incomplete mess that may have also been censored, I'm pirating with all of the fixes and content restored. I don't even care if it's a modern release. you don't treat your loyalists like that. Copyright and lost source code are the only areas I may be forgiving in
Well, this might be a way of bypassing china. I hear that even though the two lands are hostile towards each other, the citizens and products are still allowed to pass through without checks.
And considering that Hong Kong is 15 years away from being absorbed into china, this is probably a smart move
This is gonna be tricky. Because while some sanity effects can work just fine, others actively break the 4th wall, like that one that messes with your TV volume. How are you gonna pull that off and remain convincing?
There's this one game I've been meaning to take seriously called GalMetal, but the control scheme feels borked unless you magically have a drum controller that never existed. It's either crummy motion controls, or buttons that don't feel like drums
@Narrator1 It's funny, because the REAL series never died. It just moved onto the next iteration, and is still alive to this day.
But yeah, after its initial run, power rangers as an IP was struggling to not get channeled. Kids were not watching the newer ones. But the IP didn't get axed because of how cheap it was to produce in the west.
Power Rangers was always lame to me, even as a preschooler. I was into Jackie Chan movies at the time too (for reference), and they did give me a laugh while also being a bit cool, but the American high school melodrama of PW didn't do it for me
Maybe if I saw the Japanese versions of these with an English dub, I'd probably have a better opinion of them, considering how much I liked so far of Kamen Rider W.
@Fiergala actually in regards to the steam filtering, I was speaking in general. You did bring up sexuality in your post so I responded accordingly. But the same would apply if it was another theme. Someone blacklists "platformer", well now that's most of the games with a jump button gone for example. That's like, most of the gaming library in steam's ecosystem
I did contribute to stop killing games and got into some spats of my own over that too because some people kept making excuses. I'm more of an indoor person, so I'm not that kind of person to make strikes happen. The best I would be for that is sending information or pointing out problems. I don't have that much energy. Also the US? I have no power there. And I'm no superman. I primarily focus on things that catch my eyes and hold it. lol
@Fiergala It doesn't stop at Bridget, know where your going with this. They also stripped May of her unique character design traits to be a generic anime looking girl. besides Elphelt, that was my main.
My first guilty gear was accent core for the Wii. The style is very thick. You start that far back into GG, you'll notice it more clearly. The new characters just do not scream GG.
@Fiergala yeah, until the next mario game gets added to the sexual content pile because of Peach's peaches was put in a costume that made her alluring to certain post pubescents, kinda like how the biker outfits were for MK8 Steam would block that game outright, so I'm not for copying that system.
out of sight, out of mind, never thought of again. Some times it take exposure to something unique to hook them on a new style outside their comfort zone.
@Pho the game series in question, WAS metal itself.
Mario has had rock and metal soundtracks in the past. That doesn't mean it's suddenly defined by the heavy metal fantasy. Characters were even inspired by actual trends in the medium. Hell, Sol Badguy is a fan of Freddy Mercury with a giant "Rock You" on his forehead. Even Xrd had a character that was literally guns and roses. You literally ride the lightning as Ky, May is inspired by pirate metal and so on. Guilty gear use to have as much musical history as Jojo Bizarre Adventure.
Metal was the DNA of Guilty Gear. and then the first crossover character we get via Strive has nothing to do with that spirit
now those elements are being neutered or just removed from their character, new characters usually don't have that cohesion and so on.
Also @KociolekDoSyta You call it an evolution, everyone else calls it a devolution. Aesthetics, narrative gameplay and all. I'm not the most hardcore in guilty gear as a player, but I love the characters, the creativity and the vibe the world brings when I do play it. I almost have the whole series on steam, and still need to find a copy of AC+R for switch. That Bridget drama really broke things for a lot of people, and the new redesigns of characters are not helping with that heavy metal vibe that many fell in love with
@KociolekDoSyta Oh? How "metal" is this current guilty gear compared to past iterations? Because they've been doing everything they can to strip back the very spirit of rock and metal in this iteration while also bastardizing fan favorite characters.
You're calling an old head guilty gear fan "wrong" for saying the franchise has lost its identity.
@SuntannedDuck2 Can we not encourage turning all games into a McDonalds to go meal? These are works of art, visual novels being especially blunt on that. Things in the games are there for a creative reason.
@ShieldHero i wouldn't say snashed up like crazy, but they can get limited once manufacturing stops. It's also important that those who know that those who know about the cancelation of Neptunia Rebirth will really want their copies on Switch.
The rebirth games are lacking a character or two that were suppose to be crossover content. That's because they made contracts with Square to create a girl inspired by Million Author. That has since expired because Square Enix is a moron with short term financial memory. But other than that, all content should be on the card, crossover characters included (like Falcom). Core story is complete and requires no downloads or DLC on that front.
@ShieldHero Mainline Hyperdirmention games aren't really action rpgs, but they look like it when you play them. They are closer to SRPGs in a small field, like Fire Emblem but a game can take only 5 minutes to finish before moving onto the next fight. The games' gameplay are an acquired taste though, but the stories are usually hilarious.
PlayAsia accepts all western and far eastern currency, so you'll be fine. Since these games are niche, I recommend getting them Asap so you don't miss out on them. The Switch aftermarket can get pretty brutal with select releases.
Reset the clock is an extensive list showing all of the people who tried to make themselves look virtuous by attacking those who like anime or otaku subculture only to show they have questionable to legitimately criminal tenancies that contradict their attacks on others. It seems to have changed its name to "reset the clock redux". Definitely not a kids topic, so I'll leave that to your curiosity.
@ShieldHero They usually stay in stock for 2 years before manufacturing dies down a little. Maybe longer. I recommend getting as many of Compile Heart's games from Asia while you can, except Tokyo Clanpool since that got censored in the west and asia.
Also don't mind the people who are quick to call ya a wierdo for liking this stuff. They usually have skeletons in the closet, if Reset the Clock 2024 is anything to go by.
@Fiergala The problem is that steam's filters are overkill. They will even blacklist games you may want to play/are of quality as well, simply because it was one of the 20 tags added by the community that was added to your blacklist. That's part of the reason why I'm against filters like that, as well as wanting to keep options and tastes open to new stuff
@ShieldHero I just check play-asia for the physical version. It's multilingual. I recall it being 30 euros minus shipping per independent release
Edit: I'd still recommend a switch 2 for power increase, but if Nintendo doesn't get their ***** together this gen, they are gonna see a sharp decline in loyalty
@Andee Yeah, AI doesn't understand nuance, so I don't count it. And I don't see Nintendo using this for their approval process or how it would see the art in question when games like these are layered as code files.
But that's where I feel there should be an internal filtering system so only the cream rises to the top.
Personally I would have a system where if something doesn't pass in America, it would be sent to Europe. Also doesn't pass? Sent to Japan. Does pass? It's allowed globally. Otherwise you'll have to try again.
The second guideline looks at sensitive content. Nintendo specifically states what would constitute sensitive content, and this includes "sexualization of children, overly sexual content, discrimination and hate, exploitation of social issues, instructing criminal activity, and political statements".
That's not good. That's just gonna choke creative expression.
And also, the part "sexualization of children"... look, if this is aimed at combating actual sexual abuse via photographs and such, then by all means. But I've seen so many people try to silence art too because they prefer to treat fiction as reality and reality as though it's fiction, so this doesn't bode well, especially if a game is Japanese as hell like, say, Bombergirl.
It also begs the question: how are you going to appeal to a teen audience if you are not allowed to attract and entertain them to begin with? You do realize a lot of characters aimed at the youth are youthful and attractive themselves so to appeal to their target audience, right?
And that's ignoring how many people speak from the closet...🙄
Which then leads me into this: "overly sexual content"... What do you describe as "overly"?!?! These rules are vague. I'd at least make a distinction based on art quality, narrative strengths and gameplay quality.
This better not choke out the Compile Heart games. I even want some proper eroge like Nekopara or Senran Banka to have room for uncensored versions here in Europe
