Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page

Samalik

@sportymariosonicmixx In practice, the vast majority are. But some are just not gonna work because of hardware requirements, like the Fit Ring, or because there is a contractual reason like Netflix. The only other games that have issues are ones that rely on specific emulation software, which isn't going well with the Switch 2's own emulation layer

Re: Sega Provides Updated Sales Figures For Sonic Frontiers And Sonic Superstars

Samalik

@NotASockPuppet That's why I didn't like it as much and why there's a slow, decaying apathy for the game in the fandom (last I checked). The fact that the game is so basic when everyone else already has played the first 3 (4?) games is why it feels pretty dull. Serviceable, but nothing more compared to other Sonic games, 2D or 3D, that aren't afraid to be loud and brash arcade games.

It's nostalgia poisoning a series, if you will.
That's why 2D Sonic is seen as second class now instead of the old GameCube days where you could argue the games were neck and neck.

Re: Sega Provides Updated Sales Figures For Sonic Frontiers And Sonic Superstars

Samalik

@Dr_Lugae The problem is that 2D sonic was making progress in the handheld space. By the DS, it was telling its own stories and having its on spin on things.

But people around the late 00s were pretending like the games after sonic 3 were all sh|te and so the 2D games started regressing, cutting out mechanics that gave the games personality until we ended up with Sonic Mania.

Now, you may like Sonic Mania, but as a kid of the GameCube era onwards, I liked it when I saw Sonic progress and add new mechanics that would even become staples. So you can imagine what I think of Sonic Mania when we jump from the dazzle of Sonic Rush Adventure back to the basicness of the genesis and stayed there. It was a symptom of a greater problem

Re: Bandai Namco, Square Enix And Other Japanese Publishers Aren't Happy About OpenAI's Sora 2 Generative AI Tool

Samalik

@DTFaux Not only that, but the AI bros are intentionally misconstruing what people mean by AI.

We mean GenAI, but they wanna paint this as you being against AI as a whole if you're against GenAI, so they can call you a luddite

Some AI bro just tried doing this to me today, even though we play video games, which are laced with AI tech in general by default

You gotta be very deliberate with your language, very deliberate with the tech you're talking about, so to shut down those goalpost shifting attempts

Re: Tales Of Xillia 2 Remastered On The Way, With More To Come

Samalik

@Wexter "Hey guys we're going to delay this fan favorite release so we can slaps the 2nd game in, increase the price and it's a game a good 1/3 of you don't even like!

How is that pro-consumer!"

It's almost like delaying a release to be complete is actually pro-consumer! (not that Xillia has any water to hold with it's censorship removing and altering content to the point of getting Japanese politicians talking but I digress)

Re: Tales Of Xillia 2 Remastered On The Way, With More To Come

Samalik

@Wexter Mario galaxy 1+2 was a game with a worse deal than the last Mario collection. 3 games arguable 20 bucks each, vs 2 games, one of which was in the previous collection, for 35 bucks each at cheapest.

Notice how dumb that sounds to a consumer? That they have to buy the same game at a higher price?

now, lets put that into perspective with Xillia. 2 games separately for 100 bucks, or 2 games bundled together for 50 bucks.... which one sounds like the better deal...

again, see how dumb this sounds?

People aren't made of money, so please, stop mocking people for thinking the money isn't worth it when their finance situation makes it so they can't buy as many games. I already mention that some people avoid digital games for a reason. You might be better off, and good for you, or you don't care about the ownership of your games, but others aren't in that situations

Re: EA Is Diving Headfirst Into Generative AI With New Partnership

Samalik

When I said that this is putting artist out of a job, I meant it. GenAI is trained to mash actual artists work into a mess of an image, without their consent and without their permission, which, surprise, the corporate world weaponizes against the very people who made said art. It just becomes a viscous cycle of people getting put out of a job while the machine can't survive without stealing their work because GenAI inbreeding causes more damage to the system long term.

This isn't the same as horses getting replaced by cars, because the car didn't chop off the horse's legs to call it its own to prove it's worth. Woodworkers still exist in the more artistic and decor world, and mechanics are still making things too. Machines are still an extension of that, but not a hostile replacement of them.

To answer your part of "being human"...
Illustrative arts is suppose to be a snapshot into a person's mind and soul, how did they feel, what were they thinking, what memories slipped into the work itself by mistake, how do they see the world even in the mundane ways. That's part of the human side of making art and why it starts to connect on a deeper level. And that's what AI doesn't understand nor can it properly replicate it. But cooperation's still want to push it anyways because it's cheaper to make a "product" than actually try to sit down and make something, even if the end result is worse. If firing everyone would save them money, they will do it without a care for the end result. (and we already see that a lot in gaming as is)

Re: EA Is Diving Headfirst Into Generative AI With New Partnership

Samalik

@roboshort Then just play a TTRPG then. >.>
Isn't the whole point to play and mess with friends? Be a game of imagination?

Why the hell would you want to play with an AI?! That defeats the point.

A JRPG is made to simulate TT roleplaying while telling a story of its own, not replace it.

Re: Tales Of Xillia 2 Remastered On The Way, With More To Come

Samalik

@Wexter Look man, if the games in question are part of a unique back to back duology, I say it's fair to try and bundle them together when they become retro. Hell, Namco already did this with Klonoa. Not everyone is made of money. Additionally, many people here also prefer physical so they actually own their games, which doesn't go on sale in the same way as digital. And this is competing with other retro RPGs that are bundled too on Switch like the final fantasy bundles.

So yeah, acting like wanting a better, cohesive deal being "complain for the sake of complaining" is missing the point.

Re: Feature: Who Is Devon Pritchard? - Meet The Next NOA President Stepping Into Bowser's Boots

Samalik

@MyMemory Yeah, the older heads are more traumatized by what happened to hollywood and don't want the same shielded incompetency to go to other hobbies they enjoy

Anybody who's been keeping up with the failures behind disney alone knows there's a lot of sexist spite coming from the women who lead there alone

As for Ms. Pritchard, I'm gonna be on wait and see. Satoru Shibata is also gonna be a CEO, so this might be a legit change of hands based on competency

Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer

Samalik

As the brits of Nintendolife would probably put it

OH BUGGER OFF!!!

"Game Key Cards are also a measure "against illegal copying", as the data cannot be extracted from the cartridge and distributed online"
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna dump all of my switch games I downloaded online and have hackers do their thing.
lol

"Do you think a company that’s already made that much profit would do this just to make even more money"
yes. Absolutely yes. That's corporatism for ya.
