Re: AI Upscaling On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Basically Real Thanks To Updated Patent

Samalik

@Jhena Imagined? No. It's not imagined like Gen AI. It's using the game itself as reference, and is correcting bad frames before they are even shown on screen, making it so that the game always runs smooth. It is very reliant on Nvidia's hardware, which in itself is also the Switch's hardware.
Here's some explanations:

And this is just DLSS 1. We are currently on DLSS 4

Re: AI Upscaling On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Basically Real Thanks To Updated Patent

Samalik

@Jhena But it does. Look up digital foundry tests. It's not a fake upscaler. This is Nvidia level tech.

If you are using "true motion", then no wonder it looks like crap. That's not tech built into the game's code. DLSS is what makes action games more playable at high levels. That's how good it is. And knowing what we know on the Switch 2's hardware, it's gonna be mandatory for that reason, as the console is also gonna use Nvidia's chipsets

Re: AI Upscaling On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Basically Real Thanks To Updated Patent

Samalik

@Jhena Again, you will not notice it. Play Doom Eternal on PC or another game with DLSS built in on PC and tell me how much you notice compared to some chepo aftermarket plugNplay "enhancer"

It only makes the games run better on weaker hardware. Chances are you already went through DLSS-styles upscales on switch as is but didn't notice. That's how you know it works

Re: Review: Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist Of Memories & The Envisioned Land (Switch) - A Bold New Direction That Strains The Switch

Samalik

here's to hoping the Switch 2 has built in performance boost. I do wanna play a game like this. Well, I wanna own all Atelier games on Switch tbh. Still need to get Marie though

That said, the darker tone of Yumia is probably nothing new. I recall (from what I played) that the Dusk Trillogy is equally melancholic, even if it is still cheery.

Re: "I Couldn’t Allow Myself To Kill My Soul" - Kamiya Dives Deeper On Why He Left PlatinumGames

Samalik

@Princess_Lilly While i agree with your sentiment, I don't think he's talking about the EA model. Hell, he's not even western. he's Japanese. Platinum is not even big enough to pull a Ubisoft or EA. they are just work-for-hire devs

He's likely talking about how Platinum is becoming less reliant on auteurs, because most AA studios in Japan I can't even name their own head directors. But from the yesteryear, such as Kamiya himself, i probably could

Re: Capcom Provides Update On Game Changes In 'Fighting Collection 2'

Samalik

@JohnnyMind Or it could be because Visa and Mastercard have been harassing Japan to "be normal and moral" as of late, with visa lying about how its about "protecting the brand". That's probably also why Nintendo removed western payments or even has been having issues with authenticity of their eShop games as of late and why censorship made its way into otherwise cultured games these past few months...

Meanwhile Korean games have been getting away with all the same stuff Japan is getting attacked for in their art.

Re: Skullgirls Dev Is Off The Game, Taking Legal Action Against Publisher

@MirrorFate2 Because someone who lost their arm is just an explanation, not an excuse, as to why they can't hold things, right?

Sorry, but I'm not gonna take this. Guy had issues talking to women for explained reasons and everyone wants to treat him like a martyr who deserved it instead of someone who needed some social help.

@SillyG "With that said, I think a breast slider is tacky and unnecessary, except perhaps for a player avatar, but I get that its omission would be a source of annoyance for purists"
I mean, it was for the player avatar. They literally took away a customization option so you couldn't even make the bust size bigger or smaller. I was even wanting to make a character like Daidouji from Senran Kagura at the time because she was genuinely badass but I had to settle with a mediocre looking arab guy...

Though nowadays, I'd probably make my female avatar a cutting board tomboy because why not!
