Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 18th)

On Switch, i'm still chipping away at Octopath Traveler 2, loving this game a lot, and it's probably my big game this weekend.

On Series X i'm also playing Dead Cells, mostly delving into the Return to Castlevania stuff.

And on PS5 I did briefly play some of the PS4 Ratchet & Clank remake earlier, dunno if i'll keep going with it, it scratched the itch I needed scratched when I did a session with it.

The Metroid Prime remaster that dropped out of nowhere, the Dead Space remake that did not drop out of nowhere, and between those being my big games, I’ll also be playing Dead Cells and Castlevania Rondo of Blood. Getting unreasonably hyped for Dead Cells Return to Castlevania next month, and I don’t know if that’s my love for both Dead Cells and Castlevania, or just my sheer desperation for a new Castlevania game period.

Post game Hi-Fi Rush, that game continues to be an absolute delight and might be my favorite first party Xbox game since Killer Instinct 2013, but I’m also getting back into Dead Cells since I haven’t really played it since the first DLC, and that Castlevania DLC is coming up. Man…they added a lot to this game since I played last. The other indie character weapons are great!

Might dabble around with Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on PS5 as well.

It’s a 7/10 to me, rough in areas but a solid template for Sonic going forward if they tweak things. I really enjoyed the combat personally.

It isn’t worth getting worked up over a review from a person that completed and didn’t enjoy it, if you like it, be happy with that. This is the first Sonic since Unleashed that really resonated with me on a story front too.

I’ll add my two cents as a 30 year old that grew up loving Sonic. I’ve always considered him a mix of shonen with cartoony stuff, especially with the old Satam cartoon, anime and comics.

I trust no one more than Ian Flynn to strike this balance, considering the masterful work he did to redeem the Archie Sonic comic after Ken Penders, and the great work he’s doing with IDW right now, as opposed to the bozos that made Happy Tree Friends and learned about Sonic by reading about him on Wikipedia.
