Original article [Wed 7th Sep, 2022 01:05 BST]: We've heard some of the sounds from Sonic Frontiers, but what about the music? Sega has today unveiled the game's ending theme song will be 'Vandalize' - the newest song from rock band One Ok Rock.

This new Sonic song is described as a "collaborative effort" between Sega and One Ok Rock - reflecting the "vast gameplay environment" as well as the high-speed action players can expect from Sonic Frontiers when it arrives later this year.
Here's what the band's lead vocalist Taka had to say about the song:
“We partnered with SEGA on Sonic Frontiers because we relate to Sonic and how he’s taken on the world after getting his start in Japan. We are based in the US and have performed in Europe, Asia and South America, so we are extremely happy to be able to work with the world-renowned Sonic.”
“This collaborative song, Vandalize, is very upbeat and has some Japanese-inspired melodies while also sounding like a ONE OK ROCK song. It also matches the cool image of Sonic and his speed when he’s running, so please enjoy Vandalize along with Sonic as he speeds across Sonic Frontiers.”

If you want to listen to more than just a sample, One Ok Rock has shared the full track via its YouTube channel.
Sonic's new open-zone adventure will release on Switch and multiple other platforms on November 8th. What do you think of this ending song? Leave a comment down below.

If they spent this much time and energy into make sure their games were buggy and awful maybe we could get a good Sonic game again
I'm 100% positive that "One Ok Rock" sounds way cooler in Japanese than English.
We may not have gotten the full song yet, but this is 100% gonna be a banger
@Fighting_Game_Loser Oh, forgot to mention you can listen to the full song on One Ok Rock's YouTube channel:

I love that there's a Sonic theme song with an official 'Sonic' version and 'explicit' version now.
The 3D Sonic games have always nailed the music, it is the gameplay that has been (many times severely) lacking.
Looks no different in this case and the fact they are promoting the ending theme of all things prior to release seems ominous for how the game will actually play.
I have no faith in Sonic Team.
Typically I have strong positive or negative feelings toward music. Rarely do I feel completely neutral but this song is such a case.
Why don't they use Crush 40 anymore?
The teaser sounded quite epic, but I’m confused why they decided to reveal the ending theme first… I’m gonna leave the full thing until I actually finish the game,
@KindofaBigDeal
That and the few bits of actual music we’ve heard from their sound team being mostly generic sad piano music doesn’t bode well for the soundtrack.
Man I love One Ok Rock
@Aurumonado they do. They did the theme for Team Sonic Racing, they just aren't as prominent as before, but they always used other bands. Can't really say why they aren't featured as much now though, could be scheduling issues. The singer is a member of some other groups too, and they aren't making Sonic games at the same pace so less opportunities.
Good butt rock, but this has nothing on Live and Learn.
It's no Crush 40 but it's miles upon miles better than that kiddy Fist Bump song that somehow made it into Smash Ultimate.
Vocals of this Vandalize song sort of remind me of A Little Faster by There For Tomorrow, the theme of the 2nd liveaction Ben 10 film. Super nostalgic.
@Desrever It's supposed to mean "one o'clock," but written out in Japanese.
The band's name comes out as "ワンオクロック" when written out in Japanese.
If you romanize that, it comes out to "wanokurokku."
Add some spaces for each syllable, and it looks like "wan o ku rok ku."
Even when the games suck the music seems to always seem to be the one thing that remains great! And I’m sure the same applies here! It sounds great.
It sounds nice, but the lyrics seem a bit out of place.
Sounds quite alright I guess.
Am I the only person who consistently finds Sonic's rock themes horribly cringey and try-hard?
Sounds great. A bit more understated which I think will probably suit this particular game more than the likes of Crush 40.
@AlienX I thought Infinite's theme was MUCH better than Fist Bump but it only featured for about 15 seconds in the game during a cut scene with Infinite talking over the top of it.
Didn't they have a big enough budget for One Good Rock or at least Two OK Rocks? 😉
I read that as One K***
@Desrever
I've been a following the band for a while now. According to them, their band name is a play on "one o'clock", the time they most frequently met up to play and rehearse. In your defence though, I can definitely see that using English words is as appealing to Japanese audiences as using Japanese words to English audiences.
@Aurumonado
To be honest, I kind of understand why Sega would want to use new talent. Crush 40 has existed for almost 25 years now. The ones who grew up with their music in the games (myself included) are well into adulthood now, and many of them may not even be gamers anymore, let alone Sonic fans. It's nice to have a new generation of music for a new generation of Sonic fans.
@Desrever They also uploaded their Japanese version of this song to Spotify and other platforms. They drop the F-bomb in the chorus as well. Way to outdo Sonic 06's "His World" with the "kickin' ass fast" bit.
With all these good songs the game better not sucks.
I swear, there better be a orchestra version of this song that only plays during the final boss battle.
The main theme is another banger, I can’t wait to hear the rest of the soundtrack. I hope this song actually plays during a cutscene before pressing start on the main menu like colours & unleashed.
Why release the main theme a few days after the ending theme though? Shouldn’t the main theme be revealed first and the ending theme be left until we’ve actually had enough time to finish the game?
Not my cup of tea, but maybe it'll grow on me.
I just miss the more mature vocals, Johnny Gioeli, Steve Conte, Runblebee... Bentley Jones doesn't have a manly voice but it still sounded really good and fit perfectly the few times they used him.
EDIT: Referring to the main theme, not Vandalize.
Sad piano music meets whiny vocals
@ChampEccentric
They need new talent working on the actual game part not the music, they especially need this in the leadership roles as it would likely remove so many frustrating design tropes that have plagued their games for decades.
@Maulbert I'm with you. At first I was thinking, "Songs decent, vocals are a bit weak..." And then it kicked into full rock mode and it was just grating. It's a good thing that the main theme is something you generally skip past anyway.
@Maulbert Absolutely not. All of the music has been terrible, cheesy anime-themesong-sounding bs ever since Sonic went 3D. When I first read the articles title I already had it in my mind what it would sound like and I nailed it 100%
They should make a unique sounding INSTRUMENTAL music score. Sega makes some of the worst soundtracks. I'll be playing this one with the music turned off completely.
I’m really excited for this game, and that is especially true for the music! Although I think that this main theme is just fine. Not bad by any means but not incredible either. The ending theme is awesome though, so I think it works out.
The ending theme is much better but the main theme is giving me old sonic adventure nostalgia vibes for some reason.
The ending theme sounds good, but honestly seemed a bit slow for a song in a sonic game. Tried playing it at 1.25x speed on YT and found it a bit better, but idk.
Meh, want Crush 40.
The theme sounds good but it feels more like something for a epic, melodramatic anime then a Sonic game. Given that Frontiers’ tone is supposed to give off vibes of just that (going by Sega and Sonic Team’s words) I guess its fitting.
I do like One OK Rock, and am in fact listening to their new album as I type this. But I think both of these tracks would've worked better in a Shadow game...
Sega alway nail their soundtracks.
Hopefully Crush 40 shows up somewhere in this game to do a boss song or something, I’m not really feeling these two songs, and that’s weird, because I loved “Infinite” and “Fist Bump” in Colors, so it’s not an instance of me hating new things. Hopefully they’ll grow on me.
Speaking of ending themes, I’m still miffed at what they did to Colors’ closing theme, “Speak With Your Heart”. I’m super nostalgic for it, and the 30th Anniversary one was amazing, but they had to give this wet fart of a rendition in Ultimate that for sure didn’t need to be techno.
I miss the jazzy/ambient/trance/hip-hop vibes of the Knuckles & Rouge stages in Sonic Adventure 2.
Think that vibe along with Sonic R's soundtrack (which easily has Sonic's best title song) are among the best music Sonic games have ever had imo.
Wish they'd return to that motif.
... Wun can only hope.
@Mauzuri You're the one with bad taste.
@KindofaBigDeal They released an overview trailer of the game the Thursday before, lol
@MizellFizzle
Which was distinctly unimpressive.
