It turns out Cooking Mama has been actually been preparing her next game for quite a while now. After Australian and German classifications were thought to have lifted the lid on the new Switch game, Cooking Mana: Cookstar, it's now been discovered this same title was originally announced way back in February.
In a press release issued by Planet Digital Partners, the game is referred to as "Cooking Mama: Coming Home To Mama" and is described as a reboot of the top-selling family-friendly series. It's expected to be available in Fall 2019 and will add a vegetarian mode. Here are the details:
Also new to Cooking Mama will be a “Vegetarian Mode” where players who do not wish to prepare meals with meat ingredients will be able to cook creative, alternate meatless recipes. Players will be able to cook in both “Traditional Mode” and “Vegetarian Mode” and blend motion gestures from the Nintendo Switch with traditional controls for an immersive meal prep and cooking experience through each minigame played.
The rest of the press release explains how the game will implement "blockchain" technology on major consoles. Cooking Mama is also said to be the first of three games in Planet Digital's portfolio that is being funded by digital preferred shares:
Planet Digital will democratize game funding for investors, who for the first time ever can own equity in a portfolio of console games.
Here's what Planet Digital Partners president Steve Grossman had to say about the integration of blockchain tech:
Gaming is a $135 billion dollar industry with little opportunity to invest outside of the large public game publishers. We are using blockchain to add new innovative gameplay that investors can now have equity in. Putting aspects of Cooking Mama on-chain will take the user experience to a whole new level, reinvigorate a popular game franchise that many grew up with and give investors an opportunity to make handsome returns, through a digital preferred share offering.
And below are the key blockchain components for the new Cooking Mama game. Note how there is mention of promotional events and in-game currency rewards:
Unique Blockchain Private-Keys – Each purchased copy of the game will have unique IDs which will be managed directly through the game’s internal wallet storage. Players will be able to focus on Cooking Mama’s user experience rather than cryptographic key management.
Private-Key Enabled Balanced DRM – Traditional DRM limits the ability to copy games, while private-keys on blockchain protocols allows easy registration. These combined items provide greater proof of ownership to legitimate owners of a game, while also allowing them to resell games both digitally and in traditional retail outlets.
Enhanced Multiplayer Experience with Dual Expression – This feature, when enabled, makes every copy of a game subtly different and personal to a user. It utilizes the private-key to change expression algorithms for characters, ingredients and cooking methods.
Securing Online Events – For promotional events, player records and participation can be tracked while maintaining privacy. In addition, hashes of the running game can be recorded to ensure the game has not been altered to create an unfair advantage.
Digital Assets, Rewards, Recognition – Users will be rewarded with in-game currency (or points, experience, and other items) or earn recognition and certificates. These could be provided by the game, other players, or third parties that host tournaments or other promotions.

Wow... They're involving Cooking Mama... with cryptocurrency? O_o I... can't say I ever would have seen that coming.
As a vegetarian and a fan of previous Cooking Mama games I definitely appreciate the new mode, and holy guacamole the digital version will be resellable!? I'm a physical media collector all the way, but I can see a lot of people appreciating the blockchain based DRM allowing them to resell a digital game if they ever tire of it.
"Mother knows best
Listen to your mother
It's a scary world out there..."
I always figured the next step for this franchise was cryptocurrency
Daddy, I want this game its cooking thingy
Well kid, it's time you learned the ins and outs of schlatt coin...
@Sabrewing cryptocurrency is built on top of block chain. Block chain is a system independent from it and can be used for a variety of applications.
When the Wii was new and I was temporarily insane for motion based casual games, I gave the original Cooking Mama a try. I just don't get the appeal of these games. I was thinking it might test time management, like having a whole bunch of things going at once and if you don't keep up with them, your meal blows up (kind of like the Trauma Center games). But it walked you through one task at a time and it was SO BORING!
@Aaronnnnn relax its just a extra mode, it would only be peta winning if they obliterate meat out of the game.
Vegetarian Mode ?
Oh, wow !
Wanna see the vegetarian recipes from Cooking Mama Cookstar.
@Sandro89
But i eat a lot of vegetables.
I'm semi vegetarian also.
And vegetables taste yummy in my tummy.
I sure have some Googling to do after reading this article. A blockchain? A what now?
@Anti-Matter I'm semi vegetarian too - I eat 50% vegetables and 50% the flesh of young beings
@Sandro89 Are you trolling or why would you hate vegetarians (as if that's a homogeneous group)?
I'm not a vegetarian as I still eat fish, but I'm skipping red meat and chicken. I don't think Cooking Mama is a game for me, but I think it's cool that they've added this mode. As long as there's still the option to do meat based dishes, what's the harm?
It's up to an individual if they want to be a vegetarian or not but I think they need to understand, the more vegetarians there are, the less animals there will be, not the other way around.
@Sandro89 well I don’t hate you. I really can’t understand why what people choose to eat can be such a big deal to other people.
It never ceases to amaze me how simply mentioning a vegetarian option can instantly bring out the worst in so many people.
@JasmineDragon Yeah, it's sad. But I think there's some trolling involved.
Vegetarian mode sounds like a nice addition
@Geeky_Ken I think you need to study a bit of biology before you start discussing things you have no idea about. Nature, plants and animals are part of a thing called ecosystems. Self-regulating systems that inhibit themselves from becoming out of balance. Mankind though is really good at messing up ecosystems. We overfish or overhunt or cut down trees, low fields or whatever. All that harms the balance of the natural ecosystems. Also we breed and produce lifestock in vast amounts in small spaces. I don’t think other animals do that. Like wolves. Very carnivorous. They only eat the animals they manage to find and hunt. They don’t trap them and breed them to have lots of them to eat on a rainy day. Instead if they overhunt then they won’t have enough to feed all wolves. Then some wolves die. That’s why the ecosystem can only harbour a finite number of wolves.
So the part about us humans destroying the palet by eating meat is not true. We are destroying it partly by eating as much meat as we do and by changing natural ecosystems because we need to feed these animals that we later eat. Because lifestock need pastures and we need to grow crops that the animals can eat. If we ate those crops instead we could feed many more people and reduce emissions.
@Timppis actually there are scientific articles pointing out the fact that it's not just meat consumption. Vegetables and fruit that are imported from the other side of the world are hurting as much as meat consumption because they rellease the same amount of greenhouse gasses. We should limit (and not necessarily erase) our meat consumption and try as much as we can to only eat seasonal fruit and vegetables. The problem is more complicated than "one thing is good and the other thing is bad".
Wait... So keep playing our game and you could win money? Is that the block chain incentive?
Vegetarian mode? PC GONE MAD!
@TheFox Order Up might have been more up your alley.
why ya'll have to ruin cooking mama?
3 of my close friends are vegetarian so the vegetarian mode will actually be useful for me. Always liked this series but never actually owned a game from the series, but I'll probably snag this one up.
@DarkLloyd Ok yeah, you have a good point
So it's vegetarian mode and not "vegan?" That's a relief. I picture vegetarian mode as Mama saying, "Let's make some nice autumn vegetables sautéed in butter." But Vegan Mama would be screaming, "You all horrible people and should die! Now lets go throw stink bombs at fishermen!"
@AndreaF96
That is simply untrue.
Most of the crops and plant based things cargoed all around the world go for livestock. Eating fruits that have been grown in the other parts of the world is completely fine.
You are however completely right on the matter that we should eat more seasonally where it is plausible and where there is plenty of resources and wealth.
@Timppis I'm not so sure about that. That is most certainly not true for the us and I believe it is not even true for Italy(which is where I live). Livestock usually use local crops because of costs I think. I may have to ask a friend of a friend of mine, which works in that field, to be sure though. Anyway that was what a scientific article I read a couple of years ago stated.
Sounds great! I am ready!
Aw man I told the missus I doubt amy Cooking Mama game will cone to Switch after looking up how long it has been and the various publishers etc.
However I'll be honest, I have no clue what most of this is talking about lol.
Was worried it was a mostly online fare or buy game money. Doesn't look like it though if I'm reading correctly.
We'll be in for it if it is still offline friendly and fun 😁
Is it weird that all this DRM and blockchain jargon scares me even though I don’t even understand a quarter of it? Lol
Or does it scare me exactly because of that? 😅
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Nintendo commenters: "I'm an expert on this thing that's absolutely killing the planet! I have the lack of research to back it up!! My sources are so good, they don't even exist!!!"

Cooking Mama using blockchain, and the comments section being more volatile than an EA/Activision story... What?
Props for vegetarian mode!
@Aaronnnnn There are plenty of vegetarian people who aren't scum of the Earth like PETA.
For one, they're vegetarian instead of vegan.
Also I am pretty sure PETA was criticizing eating turkey at Thanksgiving, they just used Cooking Mama as a medium to deliver their message. Of course it was ridiculous, dead bird bleeding when its feathers are plucked? LOL
@Anti-Matter I am a meat eater but I don't scoff at vegetarian meals either. All down to preference.
And it's actually un-Christian to discriminate based on diet, like literally in the text. Which amuses me
@SmaggTheSmug Yeah, of course I do believe that there good people that are vegetarians, but peta really doesn't make them look good since they're like the biggest when it comes to """"""protecting"""""" animals. Like, I remember they made a tweet about the pokemon wooloo with a picture of wooloo with a sign saying "I'm not your sweater" which is so stupid, because sheep need their fur cut off or they will die of a heatstroke...yeah, I really hate peta if you couldn't tell. Also, I'm sure peta had to have at least the tiniest bit of influence to put a vegan mode in cooking mama
@Aaronnnnn I thought WWF was bigger, PETA just makes the news most often because they're shock jockeys. And they kill pets, don't forget that.
@SmaggTheSmug Oh yeah, I forgot about WWF. Also, yeah...the killing pets thing...ew
There’s literally nothing that could be considered bad about giving players more options and modes in a game.
Now it’s twice the game!
So THAT's what blockchain meant in this game, pfft.
