So, I’m quite far into the game now, just one more key to get, and I have to say it’s outstanding. I love how they’ve tried new things whilst honouring the original trilogy. It’s easily a 9.5 out of 10 for me.
DESERT - People are complaining about the desert, but it’s fine! It’s more just about connecting the areas. You don’t spend much time in it. The areas themselves are top notch with particular emphasis on the sound design.
COMPANIONS - are ok. They know when to leave you alone enough as to not ruin it, and I appreciate that they’re there overall.
MUSIC - The way the score changes as you progress through each area is a joy to behold. Overall the soundtrack/score is amazing. A relief as music in a Metroid game is so important.
VISUALLY - it’s the most beautiful game Nintendo has ever done. The Ice Belt is stunning and Volt Forge’s level design is pure Metroid Prime. So, top marks to Retro on the art direction!
OVERALL- WELL DONE Retro/Nintendo, you have nailed it!! I’m a very happy customer! THANK YOU NINTENDO, you’ve made a veteran gamer very happy!!
It’s been excellent. Great hardware and some solid 1st party games (Mario Kart, Bonanza, Prime 4). Mario will arrive when he’s good and ready and I’m happy to wait. 3rd Party support has been good too with games like Cyberpunk. Overall I’m very happy and have no regrets in upgrading from my Switch 1. It’s ace!
I have full faith in Retro and just know I’m going to adore this game. Personally, I’m glad they’re trying some new things whilst honouring the original trilogy. Sounds right up my street! Oh, and it looks drop dead GORGEOUS!
@Samick that must be a nice upgrade from the Switch Lite! I love motion controls too. They worked great for Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Prime Trilogy!
"There were 5 rings at the start. One for each race. One was given to the Zora's, one to the Gorons, One to the Ruto. one to the Kokiri, and one to the race of Hylians"
All fair points. It’s their game and we don’t have the right to demand change if it’s not their vision. That said, I’ve given up as it’s too hard for me. Seems I just don’t have the skill level needed for a game like this. Shame as I loved Hollow Knight.
Agree with everything you say. They’ve created this perfect game. BUT.. the real shame is sadly, most people won’t get to see any of it due to its difficulty. They’ll give up and drop off the game.
I’m loving Silksong. Although I forgot how punishingly difficult Team Cherry like to make their games. I stuck with Hollow Knight to the end so I expect I’ll do the same this time round. But dang! This is a hard game. Amazing, but very hard.
Nintendo life, IGN and direct from Nintendo via social media for me. I also love a weekly podcast like NVC. I’d love NintendoLife to do something similar.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this game! It looks so good!! The Odyssey team is a huge positive sign that this is going to be a classic. Maybe the next 3D Mario is with another team (Bowsers Fury team, hopefully).
This was a great read, Ollie. It’s these classic memories we should cherish more! I remember buying my GameCube purely to play prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Once I had that I went straight for the Zelda’s and Mario’s and rediscovered Nintendo’s magic and got back into gaming! Never looked back since!
I won’t be picking any up at launch. I’ve no interest in the camera or chat, and I have a switch 1 pro controller which will serve me well for a while. I do fancy a pro controller 2 but happy to hold off. The console and a couple of launch games will do me for a while.
It looks awesome. I look at it this way. I was prepared and willing to pay £60 on this game anyway. So, is the new stuff, ie new tracks, free roam, grinding, pit stops etc, worth £20 more? Yep! I’m in.
3D Mario announced but not a launch release. Zelda remake - probably OoT 3d HD not at launch. FZero - it’s time! Star fox - maybe Metroid Prime 4 - launch Mario Kart 9 - launch Silk Song - Launch
I do wonder if that extra usb c port on the top of the console is there to attach an optional second screen. Perhaps unlikely, but it would be an great way to bring over DS/3DS games…
They’ve definitely done a deal with Team Cherry to launch Silksong with the console. Can’t see another reason why it’s been delayed so long. Also, Prime 4 will be cross-gen with upgraded visuals and mouse support for the switch 2 version. Nice incentive to buy a Switch 2..
Metroid Prime 4 will be a cross-gen launch game playable with standard controls on the Switch1. But for Switch2 Left joycon in left hand controlling movement, and right joycon used as a mouse to aim. That’ll be the incentive to upgrade to the switch 2
I have to disagree. I don’t think Nintendo have any plans to release Prime 2/3 anytime soon. And if they did they’d more likely be ports rather than full remasters. MP1 Remaster seemed more of a test run for the development of 4 which they’ll have been flat out on since. Plus, didn’t an ex Retro employer say that converting Prime 3’s motion controls would be like beginning the game from scratch?
I might be wrong, but I just don’t see it happening before 4 comes out.
The original DS was pretty ugly. The DS lite was amazing though as it captured the clean precise design of Apple products which was big at the time. I was sold on the ‘lite’ as soon as I saw it.
Can anyone give me some advice? I’ve only recently discovered Mario rpg games and I’ve only played three of them: Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga GBA (Loved it) Paper Mario thousand year door (REALLY loved it) Mario RPG (liked it). Would i like the new game?
I’m a newcomer to rpg Mario. I played GBA superstar saga a few months ago and loved it. That led me on to thousand year door, which I also loved. So I’m really excited for this.
I preferred the size of the New 3ds XL. But the build quality of the regular New 3ds was unmatched. Wasn't fussed with the whole faceplate thing though.
Around $400 seems about right. $500 would be too much of a sting for my wallet. I'd likely still get one eventually after saving up, but I wouldn't be queuing up on launch day.
Nope. I think they’ve realised they just need to give them a lick of paint and they can sell them again at full price a generation or two down the line. I’m fine with that. I enjoy revisiting past classics and don’t mind paying if the upgrades are significant.

Oh and a bit of Ori and the will of the wisps too as it was on sale. Loving it!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th October)
Bit of Mario Kart World and back into Fire Emblem Engage for me. Dropped off Silksong. Just waiting for the inevitable masterpiece Prime 4 now!

They missed a trick. They should have said 'Available Now' and broken the internet.
Re: Opinion: Donkey Kong Bananza's Delightful World Map Is Another Nintendo Banger
I'm glad someone pointed this out! It's an amazing map! Hoping Prime 4 will do something similar.

Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Accessories, And Games Worldwide
Prices will continue to rise until the consumer pushes back and stops buying. They'll charge as much as they can get away with.
Re: Poll: Which Switch 2 Accessories Are You Picking Up At Launch?
I won’t be picking any up at launch. I’ve no interest in the camera or chat, and I have a switch 1 pro controller which will serve me well for a while. I do fancy a pro controller 2 but happy to hold off. The console and a couple of launch games will do me for a while.

Re: Community: The Results Are In - These Are Your Most (And Least) Wanted Switch 2 Games
My most wanted:
1. Metroid Prime 4
2. Mario Kart
3. Donkey Kong

They’ll keep me busy for a long time.
Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct
3D Mario announced but not a launch release.
Zelda remake - probably OoT 3d HD not at launch.

These are strong ideas!! Love the idea of the cruise ship! And the village. How about an abandoned mario64 castle in decay
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Studio 'Iron Galaxy' Confirms Lay Offs
Sad to hear this. They’re super talented. MP Remastered is probably the best remaster I’ve played. Hope they all get snapped up by other companies.

Re: Talking Point: How Would You Fix Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom's Most Frustrating Feature?

@Enigk goes without saying!
Re: The First Review For The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Is In
I'm off work for a few days so looking forward to getting lost in this game on the sofa with cups of tea
Re: Random: Horror Master John Carpenter Heaps Praise On Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown
Sits alongside Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight as my 3 favourite Metroidvania's. PoP is an absolute banger of a game!
