Re: "Consumers Generally Do Not Care" About AI In Games, Says Former Square Enix Exec

Pirate1

Can we please refer to this as generative AI? AI has been successfully used in games since the beginning. While they may be in the same family, advanced pathfinding and decision making (not to mention processing and graphics capabilities) AI used for NPCs versus asset creation using generative techniques (particularly those that are used to replace human created art and not merely supplement or provide a backbone for it) are quite different things and that key difference gets lost when everyone buckets it all as just “AI”.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

Pirate1

It is fun when you can find things, but there’s a lot of aimless driving. Incorporating mini games on the tracks could go a long way (not just P’s, but little races or even longer point A to point B free for all races). Also, real split screen in free roaming, please!

Re: 27 Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games We're Excited For In 2025

Pirate1

I’m looking forward to updates to existing switch games in terms of even just basic performance more than anything else at launch. Especially those that are free and just benefit from better memory and processing. I don’t need new graphics for everything, just consistent frame rates will do. MK should be fun, but the next big one I’ll probably get excited about is a new Zelda or Mario. More older RTS such as an Age of Empires or StarCraft or something would be great, too. Especially with mouse support.

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

Pirate1

I think leave it up to game designers, but my personal preference is something akin to BOTW and TOTK where there are outfits you can earn/find that enable the ability and you have to remember to use it. Or offer a glider of some sort. I don’t think there should be a straight abolishment of fall damage, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a toggle on offer for those who would like it.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 US Pre-Orders Start 24th April, System & Launch Game Pricing Unchanged

Pirate1

I am going to preorder (if I can get one), mostly for updates to Zelda games and mkw. Not a lot of other launch titles have gotten my interest. Hopefully there’s more out soon. I’d love a civ vii demo for S2 and dk demo. That might get me to buy into those titles.

But these accessory prices… I’m fine with the console price, to be honest. But to get extra controllers (pro and joycon) is going to be $200 (with tax)!

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Party Jamboree?

Pirate1

One thing that has bothered me with it is that, when playing with AI, it 100%s rhythm minigames every single time. Including when playing with multiple AI, they all 100% every time. This is in “normal” mode when playing boards and just minigames.

As someone else mentioned, the amount of time it takes to get anywhere (and number of clicks) is just way too long and it’s not even a loading problem. The areas and menu are confusing to work with/find what you want. All of that will probably get better as I play more and get used to it, I assume, but it’s been a rough start.

Otherwise, boards are strong, playable characters are strong.

I put it at 7/10 for now. It is fun once you get going.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Busier Hyrule Is Making Me Miss BOTW

Pirate1

Both games are incredible. bOTW is an excellent precursor to spend 100 hours in before going into TOTK. By the time I was done with BOTW, I still wanted more. I loved the open exploration of everything, though. TOTK has that “more” in spades. And I’m enjoying how I expect to come across a guardian in a lot of open places only to find that none are there (phew!). For me, TOTK wins at the end of the day because of the clutter. There’s so much to do and skip and come back to, I don’t feel like I’m ever just done with an area and have no need to go back, which keeps me always moving and going back to the towns already visited for more than just supplies and additional hearts.

Re: Poll: What's Your Game Plan For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Pirate1

Spend a bunch of time exploring every nook and cranny, complete every puzzle, avoid big boss fights until I’m over prepared/equipped. Bring it to a close after 150 hours or so. Probably not even start the story until 50-60 hours in, similar to how I approached BOTW (at least after initial training/walkthrough area).

Oh, you want me to go that way? No thanks
