Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

Phin68

This is what voting with your wallet should look like. Don't support Game Key cards if you want true physical games to stick around. If you keep this up, companies will look at this and may change.

That said, the same principle also applies to $80 games. Currently, Nintendo fans are supporting that price point by buying Mario Kart World. I would encourage those who want to hold out on the game due to the price to continue to do so.

Re: Talking Point: Will The Switch Ever Get A 'Nintendo Selects' Range?

Phin68

I hope so. I know the Switch is still selling well, but a lot of their evergreen titles are pretty "old" at this point. Also, save for Mario Kart and Animal Crossing, is every Nintendo title still selling well presently? Does Yoshi's Crafted World really have to be $60 in 2024? Pokken Tournament DX?

Re: Sonic Team Open To More Characters From Comic Series Appearing In Games

Phin68

The IDW comics are already canon, so crossover with the comics is certainly possible. Though I'm not the biggest fan of the new character designs (except for Belle the Tinkerer: she fits the universe well), the comic is well-written. Ian Flynn, Evan Stanley, and the other writers have a good handle on the continuity.

Re: 'Yooka-Replaylee' Brings Back Playtonic's Love Letter To Banjo In Remastered Form

Looking forward to this, but cautiously. I enjoyed the original game, but it does have deep design issues. Certain bosses lasted too long, the minecraft and swimming controls were unintuitive, and the tongue zipline sections didn't work properly.

However, I'm glad that they're addressing the lack of map and orchestral soundtrack. Oh yeah, and I bet the current Switch can't run this. I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Saber Interactive CEO Doesn't Think $70 Video Games Are Sustainable

Phin68

@Synecdoche My counterargument against length is that a book can take several hours to read, but still doesn't sell past $30 in many cases. That said, books likely cost significantly less to make than both movies and games. Still, I don't believe length justifies the high cost of games.

Though I will say in the gaming industry's defense, they don't have a viable theatrical market like the film industry does. The home market is their one shot.

Re: Saber Interactive CEO Doesn't Think $70 Video Games Are Sustainable

Phin68

While I don't expect $70 to break consumers, I do think video games are getting too costly. I think it's going to get to the point where people simply will buy less games because they cost too much.

As for my own stance, I always thought video games were too expensive. Barring the rare exception, no piece of entertainment should cost above $30. We have $200 million-budgeted movies being sold for $20-30, or less. And yet, many high-profile games today are being sold for $60-$70.

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

Phin68

Whether it be physical or digital, I want to own the games I purchase. That's one reason why I prefer Virtual Console to Nintendo Switch Online. At no point can Nintendo pull a game from my library that I've purchased, played, and beaten over "licensing issues" or any other reason (Well, not normally, I assume). As long as I hold on to the system, I still have the game. With physical releases, they're better because your games aren't beholden to the platform that they're on.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

Phin68

As someone who looked forward to E3 yearly, this is pretty sad news for me. The speculation and hype leading was a fun time. E3 2014 (in Nintendo's case) and E3 2017 (in Microsoft's case) were pretty special. I never did (nor could) attend in-person. But I enjoyed the community excitement over gaming it brought online.

Hopefully the tradition continues from companies individually, like with the Nintendo Direct. But they're under no obligation to go about it in the summer, which is disappointing.

Re: Zelda Movie Director Wants Film To Feel Like "Live-Action Miyazaki"

Phin68

Agreed with @rushiosan. Studio Ghibli makes art. And I don't just mean their beautiful animation. The Zelda movie needs to deliver great storytelling, with atmospheric cinematography, if it wants to be like Studio Ghibli.

But in all honesty? The Zelda movie doesn't need to be Ghibli-esque to be successful. It should give the Zelda fans what they want, and a story good enough for general audiences to engage with (perhaps).

Re: Soapbox: Rayman Legends Blew My Mind Then Broke My Heart

Phin68

Rayman Legends is legitimately phenomenal. Was really suprised at how great it was when I got to play it.

In retrospect, I understand Ubisoft's decision to remove its Wii U exclusivity. A game this well made shouldn't have been stuck on an underperforming platform.

If anyone else here hasn't played it, check it out! It's cheap on Switch now, and well worth the value.
