Re: Rumour: The Skylanders Franchise Might Be Facing Cancellation

The market was cannibalized. Having Skylanders, Disney Infinity, amiibo, and Lego Demensions all selling at the same time would lead to oversaturation eventually.

Also, one mistake the Skylanders devs made was excluding a Wii iteration in this new entry. As much as people hate to admit it, a huge market still exists for the Wii system. And the fact that they ignored that install base this time around might have been a big catalyst to their financial devastation.

How many times must Nintendo shoot themselves in the foot?

When I first became a gamer, I came across a plethora of fan games and let's plays that influenced me to buy Nintendo products. I still remember Super Smash Flash eventually got me to play Super Smash Bros Brawl. Watching Blitzwinger playthroughs of Lego City Undercover convinced me that Wii U was a system that I wanted to get. Neither of the mediums are technically legal, but they do work in Nintendo's benefit. If Nintendo was to think likewise, they are incredibly close-minded.

As I said once before, being in the legal right doesn't necessarily permit that you to take legal action. Bad PR makes them lose money too.

@SanderEvers I'm not referring to technicalities here. Yes, they did say they weren't ending Wii U production specifically that week, but that's not the impression they gave. A few months ago, we were told that Wii U support would last even after the Switch was announced. Based on our past 2 E3s, I didn't a believe a word of it. But I didn't want to be right, either.

Considering the position Nintendo is in now, they need to stop the corporate talk. It gets them nowhere. Whether it be the denial of a 3DS XL or Breath of the Wild's Wii U exclusivity, this is something that has to stop. As a consumer, I expect integrity from a company that I give plenty of money to each year. If they can't provide that? I could be looking at alternative console providers soon.

@plug313 Well, it is the first hybrid console...by technicality. PlayStation has already done a similar concept with the PS TV. Granted, that's with two systems instead of one. But still. I'll be looking forward to seeing how the average consumer responds to the system...
