The market was cannibalized. Having Skylanders, Disney Infinity, amiibo, and Lego Demensions all selling at the same time would lead to oversaturation eventually.
Also, one mistake the Skylanders devs made was excluding a Wii iteration in this new entry. As much as people hate to admit it, a huge market still exists for the Wii system. And the fact that they ignored that install base this time around might have been a big catalyst to their financial devastation.
How many times must Nintendo shoot themselves in the foot?
When I first became a gamer, I came across a plethora of fan games and let's plays that influenced me to buy Nintendo products. I still remember Super Smash Flash eventually got me to play Super Smash Bros Brawl. Watching Blitzwinger playthroughs of Lego City Undercover convinced me that Wii U was a system that I wanted to get. Neither of the mediums are technically legal, but they do work in Nintendo's benefit. If Nintendo was to think likewise, they are incredibly close-minded.
As I said once before, being in the legal right doesn't necessarily permit that you to take legal action. Bad PR makes them lose money too.
Lego City Undercover and The Wonderful 101 should get ported to the Switch. Both didn't get the attention they deserved thanks to poor marketing and the Wii U.
I don't know what's funnier. The fact that Nintendo is terrible at stocking in-demand items, or that people are going crazy over a system that plays decade-old games literally available anywhere.
@SanderEvers I'm not referring to technicalities here. Yes, they did say they weren't ending Wii U production specifically that week, but that's not the impression they gave. A few months ago, we were told that Wii U support would last even after the Switch was announced. Based on our past 2 E3s, I didn't a believe a word of it. But I didn't want to be right, either.
Considering the position Nintendo is in now, they need to stop the corporate talk. It gets them nowhere. Whether it be the denial of a 3DS XL or Breath of the Wild's Wii U exclusivity, this is something that has to stop. As a consumer, I expect integrity from a company that I give plenty of money to each year. If they can't provide that? I could be looking at alternative console providers soon.
@plug313 Well, it is the first hybrid console...by technicality. PlayStation has already done a similar concept with the PS TV. Granted, that's with two systems instead of one. But still. I'll be looking forward to seeing how the average consumer responds to the system...
@plug313 I guess that all depends on your perspective. We waited over a year for the reveal of a system we've seen thousands of rumors confirm that it's a hybrid console well beforehand. Looks like a fine system, but's it's nothing new.
@Utena-mobile @ricklongo That's a good argument. Though I find it odd that Nintendo would prevent other developers from making a proper Metroid experience, when it's really their job to do so.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off New Area in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Didn't the Switch footage of BOTW have frame rate issues too?
Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off New Area in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Considering how long this game has been in development, there should be no excuse for its framerate issues. Wii U or not.

Are those framerate problems? Welp, time for another dela...dropkicked by Thomas

Fine by me. As long as the Switch sells, I don't think third-party support will mind this caveat.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Will Be Getting a Boxed Release
@JubilifeRival Meh, I don't know. Just mass critical acclaim. Great nostalgia. Not a big deal.
Re: Yooka-Laylee Will Be Getting a Boxed Release
@JubilifeRival It's a spiritual successor to one of gaming's most iconic entries: Banjo Kazooie.
It's hard to not to get excited about that.

@CharlieSmile What harm would a Samus costume do to the Metroid IP? I don't recall Mario costumes in Bayonetta ruining Mario's image.
Re: The Dolphin Emulator Can Now Play the Entire GameCube Library
I'm guessing fan games infringe more on Nintendo's rights than emulators do.
