Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@AmplifyMJ what do you think "removing from public life" means? She wants to eliminate Trans people, take away any rights they have and make sure they can no longer exist. If you don't see the problem here then you're obviously being willfully ignorant in a lazy effort to troll me, Trans people have always existed and just like the gay panic of the 80s and 90s the LGBTQ+ community will defeat the vile bigotry whether you like it or not

Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@AmplifyMJ you don't stand up for women by eliminating a vulnerable minority, if you have a problem with violence against women then look no further than cis men - it has nothing to do with Trans women. All her efforts have done is make it harder for women who don't conform to modern beauty standards to piss in peace in public.
You're showing your true colours here, you don't care about standing up for women you just want permission to hate a tiny minority

Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@AmplifyMJ just because you're grossly misinformed it doesn't make it nonsense, take a look at the kind of people Rowling has been teaming up with to eliminate Trans rights who has literally gone on record to state they object to gay equality and reproductive rights. This is exactly why Nintendo life won't review the game because people like you will pretend like there's no problem with Rowling's actions when she is the most dangerous person in the country right now for the LGBTQ+ community. Look at her twitter feed, look at the causes she champions, she's a hateful bigot and you're a fool to say otherwise.

Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@Ulysses I will never forgive Rowling for what she's done to her own legacy, I used to have a very special place in my heart for the franchise (as it's something me and my gran bonded over before she died) but now all I think about is the hatred Rowling has released into the world against the LGBTQ+ community. The fascists she has aligned herself with won't stop at Trans people, they are coming for gay rights next and reproductive health after that so no-one is safe. This is not hyperbole, the USA is already well on their way and sadly what the USA does the UK often follows suit.

Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@Moroboshi876 just look at the attach rate, it's the best selling game on the console but it still doesn't have a 100% attach rate so this explains why it continues to appear in the charts. Not only is it pretty essential for new players but there are millions of consoles who just never got round to buying MK8 for whatever reason, that's why it's still selling

Re: UK Charts: Yes, Two Mario Kart Games Are In The Top Ten

Otoemetry

@Ulysses the problem is that Rowling has gone on record to state that the money she earns from the Potter IP is actively put to use against the Trans community, she says, verbatim, that she believes people still spending money on Harry potter merch etc means they agree with her transphobia and want her to continue actively working against the community. Whether you agree with her or not, she believes it and her enormous wealth and platform make her extremely powerful, powerful enough that she's now set up a political pressure group using her own money (i.e. royalties from HP) to continue to work against Trans folk and "remove them from public life" whatever that means... I don't understand how anyone could possibly reconcile those actions with the selfish desire to play a game or watch a TV show

Re: Switch 2 Sets "All-Time" Launch Record For Video Game Hardware In The US

Otoemetry

@arabiansanchez I have to be honest, I'm just not that enthused by DKB. I've never really been a huge DK fan and though I do usually buy the games they're not system sellers for me, none of the Switch 2 exclusive games are making me desperate to buy the console and I'm so uninterested in frame rate bumps that I'm struggling to care about the S2 "upgrades" when I can (and have) played those games to death on my OLED.
I'm also very much not made of money so the way Nintendo has used their old games to bolster the launch lineup just isn't for me, I need an essential AAA title from Nintendo to really grab me and unfortunately at the moment that title doesn't appear to exist. I'm sure it will come soon enough, but I have a feeling I will be waiting til the end of the year at least before I bite.

Re: Switch 2 Sets "All-Time" Launch Record For Video Game Hardware In The US

Otoemetry

@arabiansanchez I was a bit young for the NES but I lost many an hour on the family SNES, I totally agree about the N64 and then my beloved GameCube... it was hard being a Nintendo fan back then, I guess it didn't help that Sony had two majorly successful consoles in a row while Nintendo was failing to capture people's attention but the games from those years count as some of my favourites! Here's hoping Nintendo have got some decent games in the pipeline so the success of launch can continue 😁

Re: Switch 2 Sets "All-Time" Launch Record For Video Game Hardware In The US

Otoemetry

@arabiansanchez definitely, it's just gonna take a while to build the market up. The Switch did massive heavy lifting but Nintendo have to continue doing what they're doing if they want to compete with PlayStation here, and to a lesser extent Xbox for which the UK is pretty much its only well performing market 😆
Nintendo used to ignore the UK for the most part, we only got their consoles by the good fortune of sharing a language with America. I suppose as Nintendo has slowly let itself become a more global corporation we've benefited from their increased investment but let me tell you those early days as a Nintendo fan in the UK were ROUGH 😂

Re: Switch 2 Sets "All-Time" Launch Record For Video Game Hardware In The US

Otoemetry

@arabiansanchez oh no you misunderstand me, there was an article about how it's the biggest Nintendo launch ever (which is great!) I'm just lamenting the fact that even being the biggest Nintendo launch here it couldn't pass the most recent Xbox or PlayStation launch numbers. I think @Cakefish has the answer though, I haven't been able to afford one yet and neither have the other Nintendo gamers in my life so anecdotally at least I think this is the reason why

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Crushes PS2 To Become Fastest-Selling Console Ever

Otoemetry

@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT they can't do that, the reason they're currently saying "over 160 million units" is because it's on record that they manufactured just over 160 million and if they were to claim they made 161 million it would be an outright lie. There's apparently some documentary evidence where they inscribed the internal casing of the final machine with the production number but I've never seen it, it's only what others have said on comment sections so take that as you will.
The only way I could see them increasing the numbers is if they decided to make a mini classic console and add those sales numbers to the total, but I'm not sure they have any appetite to do that

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch 2 Annihilates The Competition In Its Debut Week

Otoemetry

@Varkster ah gotcha, yeah it's easy to forget how easily comments can be misinterpreted online when they're devoid of tone etc. No harm done!
I think when it comes to the UK in general we're deep into an unrelenting cost of living crisis and our change of government last July has done less than nothing to help alleviate the feeling of our country circling the drain, I know that sounds dramatic but I don't know anyone who feels like they're doing well and several friends are in desperate situations so expensive new gaming hardware just isn't in our budgets at the moment. Doesn't help that Nintendo seem to be relying on upgrading old games to bolster the lineup rather than releasing new titles, it feels like there's very little new to play that would make the console an essential purchase and as I say I only play on Nintendo hardware... Course this could all change at the drop of a hat if Nintendo would let a few announcements drop instead of being tighter than the nun's proverbial! 😂

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch 2 Annihilates The Competition In Its Debut Week

Otoemetry

@Varkster I'm not coming with an agenda simply the reality of the region in which I live and the way statistics can be twisted to produce a sensationalised headline that doesn't quite tell the truth, I haven't read the latest article (I was supposed to be trying to sleep but insomnia wins again tonight considering it's 5am and I still haven't) but I will catch up later. My main point was simply that the UK is not Nintendo's strongest market when a supply constrained ps5 managed to beat the Switch 2 launch numbers, I'm not just being a downer. I only own Nintendo consoles 😅

Re: Splatoon 3 To Get Free Switch 2 Update Later This Week

Otoemetry

@Gohanjin I don't remember this but it's been a long time since I finished the single player campaign, I'll have to go back and check. Oh thinking about it actually it's the stage that appears near the start isn't it, yes I've done that but I don't remember it being terribly difficult. Not like the final secret levels in Mario games anyway, that one in 3D World was horrific!

Re: ICYMI: Nintendo's Keeping amiibo Alive On Switch 2 With New Zelda: TOTK Collection

Otoemetry

@Spider-Kev correct, however most of them don't play nicely with the reader on the joycon unless you at least remove the paper information leaflet underneath. I had to unbox most of my Zelda series amiibo because they just refused to read the figure through the box, I'd end up clicking the stick down so the amiibo thingie in game would go away... it was most infuriating

Re: Team Night Takes Gold In Splatoon 3's Latest Seasonal Splatfest

Otoemetry

@SplatRay001 I also seem to have that affliction, it doesn't help that most of the time my preferred option is Frye's team and she just cannot catch a break. I had loads of mirror matches yesterday which I really don't think helps as it seems to encourage purposeful disconnections, I find it hard enough to be enthused about tricolour matches as it is but when you only fight your own team it really brings my morale down.

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

Otoemetry

Definitely seems like the general consensus online is that Nintendo have fumbled this release, you don't hide pricing decisions accidentally and consumers aren't stupid. We know what's up. If the shine of last week's direct was ruined for ME then I dread to think how less Nintendo-committed gamers are feeling, there simply weren't enough first party games announced to obscure the glaring price omissions and I fear Nintendo are going to have to learn a tough lesson once more.

Re: Nintendo Is Returning To Region-Locking With Switch 2 In Japan, Sort Of

Otoemetry

@SuperBro64 I don't know enough to answer the first part particularly accurately but it's likely down the Japanese economy and the historically weak yen in the current global market where aggressive nations seem intent on starting trade wars, if Nintendo only sold one version across all markets and kept the price equivalent it would mean Japanese customers would effectively be paying more for the same product

Re: UK Charts: Old Favourites Keep Nintendo In The Race As Xenoblade Plummets From Top 10

Otoemetry

@dew12333 it's just years of paying attention to the UK charts and knowing that Xenoblade games never set them on fire over here, obviously we can't know for sure if it's been a success (I would be surprised if it didn't sell more than the roughly 800,000 units of the Wii U version but we'll have to wait on that) until Nintendo releases its sales numbers. The UK has particular tastes and historically speaking it has been a weaker market for Nintendo, yes you can say that about any country but in most of Nintendo's other major markets they do much better proportionately than they do here. We're not even the biggest market in Europe 😆

Re: Japanese Charts: Game About Picking Up Girls In A Dungeon Enters The Top 10

Otoemetry

@GrailUK they cannot go higher than 160 million since it's on record that they didn't manufacture more than 160.2 million, apparently they made a video (in characteristic Sony hubris) stamping the final console they made with the number so it's not possible to increase the number further than that. Wouldn't put it past them to create a "mini" PS2 in an effort to inflate the numbers further of course 😜

Re: Random: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Depths Hide A Mysterious, Unused Big Hole

Otoemetry

@Eel English not being your first language is probably the barrier here, especially with anything using r sounds since English is quite unique in how we pronounce them. Most of the rest of the world (or at least in languages in which the sound actually appears, many use L sounds as a substitute instead) use either the tip of the tongue to "trill" the r sound or it's in the back of the throat to make a more gutteral sound, both are known as "rolling" your Rs in English and a great many native speakers struggle with it... though the trill can still be heard in the Old Hollywood "Transatlantic" accent that some older (usually posh) people still use.
The r sound in English is mostly formed using a depressed tongue shifting the sound towards the centre of the mouth while squeezing the esophagus and partly pursing your lips, it's quite unusual linguistically speaking (or at least that's what the person whose video I watched said! 😅) and it's part of a generational shift away from the other ways of saying the sound. It's similar to how people tend to say a ch sound for words beginning with t such as tuna and tune, most young (southern) English people will say choon instead of pronouncing the t and certainly don't bother making a point of including the you sound unless they're trying to sound like the queen. Anyway I've rambled on enough for now, linguistics is cool yo

Re: Random: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Depths Hide A Mysterious, Unused Big Hole

Otoemetry

@Eel English plays fast and loose with grammar, what can I say. You would never in a million years make a ch sound when pronouncing Christmas lest everyone around you think you'd gone mad, even calling someone named Tristan's birthday "Tristmas" would sound odd.

I'm not an etymologist but there are a bunch of words with ancient greek roots what begin with a ch yet are pronounced with a k sound, words like character, chorus, the aforementioned chaos etc where a ch sound would sound very weird. I think it's probably the interaction of Greek, Latin, French, and German within English that has made this strange situation but as I said earlier English just does it that way for some reason. Probably all the invasions and then all the invading
