@Indielink your original comment read like you were saying the PS5 is currently selling 5x as many consoles as Switch 2, which is obviously impossible to know at the moment with the figures both companies have released. Referring to an install base is usually clearer than the ambiguous 'sales' if that's the kind of comparison you were aiming for
@shiningpikablu252 Famitsu confirmed recently that they'd be discontinuing tracking of the PS4 in Japan, so now it's down to the ever accurate Sony to provide the final sales figure 😆
@foursider I thought of something cool they could do for the final smash, they could vary the smash based on a shape you'd draw when triggering it so there could be like 3 or 4 options. Maybe the bomb, lightning, and bloom effects? I really hope it happens for the next Smash entry!
@foursider omg can you imagine the move set? It would be epic! What would you want the final smash to be? Might be cool to have the other gods join you like some other characters' final smashes or perhaps a collection of divine brush techniques? The possibilities are endless 🤩
@electrolite77 excellent work in this comment thread, looks like @Porco needs an education as well though 😜
Edit: you beat me to it! Haha!
Do we know how it's doing globally yet? I want to know the launch aligned sales for the whole world, guess we'll have to wait for the EoY reports?
@Discostew longer than 7 years even, Michael Pachter was in Bloomberg predicting a 3rd party developer situation for Nintendo before the original Switch released and we all know it's the best selling console of all time so Pachter can suck it
Edit: I may have misremembered his association with Bloomberg, I don't have time to properly look up his rantings from 2016 but at first glance a quick internet search didn't pull anything up.
@SoIDecidedTo hypothetically I expect (given that this report might not even be accurate) they'd make a decision that having a bunch of stock you can't ship to retailers would cost more (storage and logistics wise) than simply absorbing the cost of increased RAM prices down the line, especially as they likely have pricing arrangements set in stone with the RAM manufacturers for the first few years of the console at least. I'm no expert to say the least but these are all things I've seen other more knowledgeable sources say about the RAM situation.
@SoIDecidedTo I read the charts every week and the BOTW/TOTK games usually have pretty even splits, often 49/51 one way or the other and swapping between the two versions of each. I think the lower reaches of the charts are so changeable because with the smaller sales numbers an extra couple of sales one week can dramatically impact the platform splits one way or the other, I haven't noticed either game seeming to favour one platform but I can't say I've sat and done the calculations or anything 😆
@repsahj @Gamer83 they didn't find additional sales, they switched to using the final production number as a proxy for the final total sales count. We know it was the final production count because they made a song and dance of minting the final one with its production number when manufacturing of the console ended, they are basically claiming that in the entire history of PS2 production not a single console was ever replaced within warranty or given away as a promotion etc. They stopped counting official sales numbers at 155 million meaning they can't actually give an accurate sales update because they never even conceived of the idea that they might lose the best selling console title so they're hoping to palm off this final production number as a proxy for sales and hoping everyone just goes along with it, I for one will not be fooled.
@CaptainQuo oh, I do disagree about your boycott point though. The BDS campaign proves large scale global boycotts can and do except pressure on those mega corporations, McDonald's has been struggling for a while as a result of their support for a certain country in West Asia
@CaptainQuo 100% agreed, GKC are a black mark against a game for a huge number of people but like everything in this world there are plenty of reasons why they might not boycott a game over it... 5 year old game newly on Switch 2 but only GKC? Why bother. A brand new Pokémon spin off only available physically on GKC reviewing incredibly well might tempt people into breaking the boycott, I know I'm certainly tempted but until I've upgraded my OLED it's a decision for another day
@WheresWaveRace yaaaass I was also very happy to see it return, it may not have the legs of a mainline Mario or Zelda but I hope it can keep plodding along like this until it hits a decent sales figure. Guess we'll actually know how well it's done in a few weeks when EoY reports drop!
@Dman10 it's not about collecting physical carts (well, not for the most part anyway) it's about ownership, digital "purchases" are just licenses and can be withdrawn on any corporate whim so people ought to be far more concerned about it in my opinion... to be fair to Nintendo though they've been pretty good about access to digital purchases as long as your hardware holds out, keeping the Wii shop channel running for redownloads is great but if your Wii goes kaput you're stuffed. My main issue with GKCs and codes in a box is simply because it's anti-consumer, publishers shifting costs onto consumers to protect their profits because they're ***** and their devs can't optimise for toffee
Rarely do I leave a direct so deflated, even by partner standards this was bad. Where was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Metaphor: ReFantazio? I was hoping to see Baldur's Gate 3 as well but found out last night the Devs couldn't reach an agreement with Hasbro 🙄 it's clear Nintendo fans are still treated like the unloved stepchild by the rest of the gaming world and it's never been more obvious how desperately Nintendo needs it's own heavy hitters to carry a new console. Nothing in this direct will sway me to buying a Switch 2, it's just too expensive and doesn't have the games it needs.
@Axecon see my comment above but also thought I'd add that they made a big song and dance of manufacturing the final PS2, engraving it on camera with the final production number thereby definitively ending this debate should Nintendo give the OG Switch a final 5 million push
@TheFatPlumber Sony didn't find sales, they're using the final manufacturing count and palming it off to people as total sales, in over 12 years of production they're trying to claim that over 160 million consoles were sold without a single one being replaced in warranty. The fact that gaming journalists repeat this lie will forever drive me insane, what say you @Olliemar28?! 😜
@SoIDecidedTo honestly it's super fun to ride and I found myself purposefully going back to the desert area just so I could ride around and collect stuff, I watch GVG on YouTube and they recently had RogersBase on to discuss MP4 and all of them agreed that the bike is an enjoyable addition to the game
@Olliemar28 hey Ollie there's a mistake in the FAQs as missile expansions are only 5 not 10. I also think it would be helpful to list the total number of each thing (250 missiles once you've collected every expansion, for instance) as I struggled to find this information when I had 99% of all the items and couldn't figure out where the last power ups were... It was very frustrating as I'd forgotten that I hadn't electrified the last scout bot so the pointers weren't appearing on my map 😅
@LazyDaisy nah Godhome DLC on the first game came out pretty quickly so I reckon this will be a quick release, it's whatever they cook up after that which will take a decade to make! 😆
@The_Nintendo_Expat no, it isn't as annoying as people made out. It was overblown, as usual, by people who have an ulterior motive of getting as much engagement as possible for their content and controversy generates more clicks than a lukewarm reaction. I don't know if you've played this game, I'm guessing not based on your comments, but this supposedly chatty NPC basically ignores you once you're out of the starting biome and even during that first part barely talks to you unless you're showing signs of being stuck... even then it's only an occasional pointer to the next logical zone of exploration. I managed to explore the entire desert and that reminder only came two or three times, maybe I'll find more NPCs in the 4th biome but right now the prevailing online opinion of them in this game is totally misrepresenting the reality of the game. As for the value proposition, that's highly subjective and quite frankly you cannot make that decision for others who clearly believe the game is worth $70 or more.
@Dr_Wright the only time Nintendo shares digital numbers is during their quarterly reports, and even then it's not usually specific numbers but rather a ratio of digital vs. physical sales that you can use to find the approximate numbers from the total sales figures
@HammerGalladeBro I'm curious, what does digestion rate mean?
Edit: also can translate as 'sales rate' though I'm still unsure what that would mean and how they measure said rate 🤷🏼😅
@MamaSymphonia the first paragraph of this comment seems like a bit of a contradiction, if you ask me, but you do you. I'm telling you it feels exactly like a Metroid Prime game and you should trust me since I've been playing them for over 20 years
@MamaSymphonia I suppose that's a choice you have to make but I just thought I'd give you my opinion based on my experience of playing the game. I deliberately avoided reading full reviews or watching play throughs once all the noise started dropping on social media so I didn't taint my experience of the game and I was genuinely shocked at how different my thoughts were in comparison, it makes me feel like most of the complaints were ragebait designed to generate clicks
@MamaSymphonia honestly, the reviews totally exaggerated any "issues" Prime 4 has. I went in expecting the worst from the NPCs and was actually pleasantly surprised with the voice acting, they haven't annoyed me at all and I thought I was sensitive to annoying limpet hand-holders after I couldn't make it through Pokémon Shield's snorefest opening... perhaps the egregious reusing of Sun & Moon's animations was what got me there, but still. I also enjoy the desert area, riding the bike is just plain fun! In conclusion, eff the reviews it's actually really good.
@westman98 not in the UK it's not, despite the retail sector continuing to attempt to bring it over. Without a cultural attachment to Thanksgiving etc there's just little enthusiasm here for tepid (at best) sales offers.
They probably meant quiet in terms of game releases anyway

@Dman10 I'm guessing Nintendo may not reveal the numbers for the digital upgrades but if they do it'll likely be buried within their end of year financial reports since they usually only share their digital sales numbers there, unless something is so successful it warrants a special report of course. The Switch 2 editions will likely land on their own list whenever Nintendo deems fit to report on them I guess, it's a weird situation though and they may decide to just lump them all together in an 'across Switch 1&2 systems' type total 🤷🏼
