@johnvboy Finally, someone with a sensible opinion. People forget that Nintendo tried to do a far more reasonable payment model straight away with Mario Run. You paid once and got the whole game - but nobody bought it. So they tried a gatcha system instead with Fire emblem and it made a billion. So what exactly do people expect them to do?
If these mobile games are making money that Nintendo can then plough back in to development of 'proper' console games, then I am all for it.
@Spoony_Tech It sounds like you gave it a fair shake. It doesn't get much different the further in you get. Don't get me wrong it introduces new mechanics regularly to keep the gameplay fresh but if you have found it more frustrating than enjoyably challenging up to this point then that is unlikely to change the further you get so I wouldn't suggest persevering. Why not watch a speedrun instead? It will blow your mind to see how the elite players can utterly destroy what is a crushingly difficult game.
Personally I have never understood why you would intentionally invite villagers you have had before in previous games. The fun for me is in seeing which new ones turn up. Whenever a villager tells me they are thinking of leaving I let them go and then am excited to see who will move in next.
@roy130390 You are exactly right. Speeding everything up like this would defeat the purpose somewhat. The game has been out just over a month and people seem desperate to rush through it and 'complete' it. It is meant to be played slowly over a year or so.
Having said that the idea of an app that shows you whether you already own something definitely needs to happen.
@RupeeClock I came here to post the same thing! I watched that run at AGDQ, I think they explained depending on RNG it was possible to get a first encounter that was impossible to beat? I seem to remember entire villages on the map screen were also invisible? What a bizarre release.
@Toads-Friend I agree, when you come up against someone evenly matched it is brilliant. I lost an absolute epic once in the final tie-break after being neck and neck the whole way through and I didn't even care because it was such a great match.
@mesome713 It was never delayed because they never gave it an official launch date in the first place. I played this at EGX last year and it is a brilliantly faithful homage to the original and assuming there aren't any technical issues it will review pretty darn well I reckon. Day 1 for me.
@JamesR If you go to the Nintendo Official Store and add Ring Fit to your wishlist they will email you just before it is restocked. The "before" bit is important and caught me out first time around. It means that when you click the link it will still be shown as not is stock and you need to keep refreshing for the next 10 minutes or so to see when they actually update the page.
@Dragonslacker1 I would be on board with a Nintendo subscription service to access old games, but only if you could download them. I guess that's kind of what the Online subscription is but as you say if they expanded up to Gamecube and also Wii then I would happily drop 10 quid a month for that. Whilst an all digital future is guaranteed, I'm not sure we'll ever reach streaming only, I think downloads will always have their place (I hope).
@Dragonslacker1 You're right of course and I don't like it either, but I think we are a long way from it. Sony and MS are just now releasing new consoles so an all streaming future won't be happening anytime soon. The lack of interest in Stadia too suggests that the market isn't ready for it just yet either.
@UmbreonsPapa It's just random I believe but I've had no luck either, which is frustrating as apparently there are some useful islands out there but I haven't seen any:
I love how dodgy Redd's trawler looks! Also the new events all seem far more inventive than the much maligned Easter one. Can't wait to explore that gallery, what they have done with the museum this time around is pretty spectacular.
@theJGG For customers like you and me then you are correct, we don't really need them. Gamescom though is an event more focused on the consumer so it would be a shame for that to go. When it comes to something like E3 however one thing people often overlook is how important those conferences are to Indie and smaller developers who are looking to get their games published. E3 is a chance for small companies to talk with Nintendo and the like to strike deals that otherwise simply would not be available to them. There are also loads of jobs secured at these events for people like designers etc who use the conference as an opportunity to show what they can do and look for work. After all Nintendo have their Directs but still choose to physically attend. Who knows how many great games and talented people the industry will miss out on if conferences disappear altogether.
@Manah Exactly this. Every criticism I have seen levelled against Animal Crossing can be explained by your argument. The game is meant to be played over an entire year, but people seem to think they should be able to 'complete it' in the space of a few days if they just put enough hours in and grind. It doesn't work like that. Slow down, play AC for an hour or two each day and play other games in between.
I'm 4 for 4 so is that just lucky or is it more likely down to having a max daily limit? Would be a bit broken if you could farm a hundred in a single night.
@nintendoknife I have had literally none of that happen to me but fair enough points, although I always carry a bench and plenty of materials but I guess you need to have maxed out your pockets for that to be practical. For the stone you do at least get a new spawn everyday next to one of the rocks. I do agree that you should be able to eventually craft unbreakable items but I guess Nintendo painted themselves into a corner by offering Nook Miles based on how many you break. In any case it's a minor annoyance at best.
The reason the tools break is that it introduces the player to the idea of crafting and forces them to think about gathering resources. It also encourages players to interact with the crafting mechanic that they may otherwise have ignored if they didn't bother gathering resources, which would not be necessary if tools didn't break.
Besides it takes a couple of seconds to craft new ones which you would still need to do anyway even if you had a durability gauge - so what would be the point? It's not as if a tool breaking ever costs you anything. The fish is still there waiting for you once you have crafted a new rod.
I can see the IGN event becoming a regular thing if it is a success this year and end up replacing E3 all together. Can definitely see them liaising with Nintendo so that the Direct is worked into the schedule.
@Pj1 The official lego store has a far better pre-order bonus so I would suggest getting from there for the same price. Annoyingly the price is one penny away from free delivery so treat yourself to a minifig while you're at it in order to qualify.
Although hopefully it will be 8 different skins. I actually think ARMS is a great choice, not so much because of the characters but because the fighter would have such a unique moveset and fighting style.
@duffmmann I do agree that there are certainly a few too many similarities. They could have done a pure run and gun like Metal Slug for example instead of copying the Cuphead format as well. If it's well done and fun to play then I will pick it up but you are right they could have been a bit more original.
Interesting that they directly acknowledge Cuphead in the patch notes. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt here. It's not as if one game can solely own a visual style (which was itself an homage to an existing visual style anyway). Yes it's not particularly original but it's not plagiarism and the bosses look like they have had a bit of thought put in to them, not just copied over from Cuphead.
Quackshot is one of my all time favourite games. It was criminal that it wasn't on the Mega Drive Mini and such a shame that this project couldn't get off the ground.
Looks cool. Will no doubt be criticised for the obvious Hollow Knight influences but I don't have a problem with that. More Hollow Knight can only be a good thing.
@Expa0 You've clearly never played it then. It was a brilliant game with loads of customisation that worked as a kind of progression system as the races got extremely difficult. Cannot wait to revisit this.
If all this was in the mini Direct then what they have left for the full fat version will be incredible. Other than a couple of bits of DLC there was nothing first-party in here so there is clearly going to be loads going on in the "E3" Direct.
I'm happy with the ports for now in anticipation of some big hitters at the end of the year.
@LetsGoSwitch Fishing by rod and line such as in Animal Crossing causes zero impact to the environment, however other commercial methods such as dredging can destroy the seabed if not done responsibly. Scallop dredging for example is fairly violent. Then there is overfishing which is harmful to fish stocks, see for example cod and sea bass.
Recreational fishing is completely harmless (especially in a video game).
