Hmm, by my reckoning that will require around 20,000 people to back the game which seems unlikely. Having the Switch port as a stretch goal is a fatal mistake I reckon as Switch owners like me will be put off until we get somewhere near the goal, which won't happen without Switch supporters - it's a vicious circle.
I wish them well as Sonic Mania was incredible and I'll happily dip my toe in if the Switch version gets met.
@GrailUK Is Call of Duty that big in Japan though? Seem to recall FPS not being a popular genre. Also I believe that Japanese people have on average 23% less facial hair than us in the West.
Those Ring Fit numbers are really impressive in that there was almost no drop off. That mirrors the UK figures where sales actually increased if I remember correctly(?). Perhaps we have a sleeper hit on our hands?
I kinda get this. Pokemon is a game that I would definitely consider buying digitally as it is perfect for dipping in and out of to catch all those 'mon without having to switch game cards all the time. So it would be nice to get the pre-order rewards that you would otherwise be entitled to for the same price. Nice steelbook too.
@Heavyarms55 @Raylax @terry93 Yes that's my thought exactly, probably just a link to sign up to Nintendo Online. Can't imagine Nintendo wanting to let people cherry pick which bits of online they want for a cheaper price. Also how much cheaper can it get anyway? It's like £1.50 a month - even less if you shop around or got it included with SMM2.
@Silly_G One accessory that is not unnecessary is the Jigglypuff voice. Definitely needed to have that included so that now he can perform his signature song. What really creeped me out though was the option to add in a 'beating' heart. I would have found that absolutely terrifying as a kid!
Damn he's cute. as usual with this range there is no need for the accessories though. I bought my wife the Jigglypuff one and that went down a treat, even if I did feel a bit of a wally making the thing by myself whilst the helpful staff member reeled off the well practised kid friendly shtick (she made me kiss the heart - I'm 34!).
Do the unique spirits from previous events ever cycle around again? I was obsessed with getting every spirit when it came out but now I've missed a handful.
@Heavyarms55 I tried it and you really don't need that much space at all for most of the moves. The game also has accessibility options so you can avoid using some of the yoga poses which are the ones that take up the most room, such as those that require you to get on the floor.
Hmm, I see a lot of people are using this comments section as an excuse to show off their Tetris achievements...
So I will now do the same! :
Logged back into this after some time away and am now the proud owner of the icon for winning 3 Tetris Maximus in a row! Hands were shaking near the end of that third one I can tell you.
I tried this out at EGX and was really impressed. The ring is high quality and offers a surprising amount of resistance and the game replicated my movements perfectly. After just a few minutes I was surprised to find how sore some of my muscles felt. No it won't replace the gym but for plenty of people this will be an excellent keep fit option.
@Bunkerneath The problem is this is what consumers want. Nintendo tried to be fair with Mario Run by charging a flat $10 to unlock everything and hardly anyone bought it. They switched to gatcha for Fire Emblem Heroes and it made them 6 times the money despite being a far more niche series. I know it sucks but honestly what would you do if you were them?
I forgot this was coming. Seriously my backlog is absolutely ridiculous right now. And that's with Luigi's Mansion just around the corner too! Almost enough to make you miss the fallow Wii U days...
@JaxonH Thanks for the detailed thoughts. Sounds like it is well worth getting on Switch for someone like me who has never owned a PS4 or an XBone and plays mainly in handheld mode anyway. Perhaps I'll take the plunge.
@frabbit Ok that's interesting, thanks. Sounds like you feel the same as me that gameplay trumps graphics (up to a point at least), but perhaps I'll wait and pick it up cheap. I do play almost exclusively in handheld mode anyway so that's good.
I have never played a single game of Fortnite but you really do have to hand it to them, the way the Developer keeps things fresh and keeps players interested and engaged is really extremely impressive. In a world of cynical microtransactions at least here we seem to have a game that is actually earning it's money.
(I stand to be corrected of course but this is the impression I get as an outside observer)
I backed this for 10 quid or so. When you back a Kickstarter you know damn well there is going to be a delay, probably at least a year. I wish they wouldn't put delivery dates on them at all but I guess Kickstarter makes them? I'm ok with lack of updates as I can see why they would be an unnecessary waste of resources but I can understand why a high end backer would demand more visibility of the project.
I knew when I got this update the other day that it would rub people up the wrong way. It is never a good idea to respond like this even if you believe you are being measured. The internet only has two states of being - extremely angry or die-hard fan - so just don't engage as you'll never win.
@Zuljaras I think the fear is in how the law will be applied. For example if China views a political activist or anyone who speaks ill of the Communist Party as a 'criminal' then they could be bundled off in the night without fair trial.
Also I think this law was probably the proverbial last straw and that there is plenty of other things the protesters are unhappy about.
@Jolt I think it's the negative press and reactions online that will really end up being more effective. They were trying to avoid a backlash from China and all they have done is create more and more publicity in Hong Kong's favour. Their China audience must be fuming!
In any case Blizzcon is in a couple of weeks. That's going to be a lot of fun if they haven't fixed this mess by then!
@RazumikhinPG I think Blizzard have brought a lot of good to society. Their games are extremely popular and have a fantastic ability to bring people together. Look at esports, Blizzcon etc. But yes, the way they have handled this was a mistake, no doubt about it. The lack of a response or apology is also problematic.
@Jolt I'm not sure what the answer is to be honest but I would rather see people pushing Blizzard to change their philosophy rather than trying to punish them by reducing their sales. Instead of boycotting the games we should continue playing but do so whilst making the political points we want to. Imagine if instead of boycotting Overwatch gamers turned it into a symbol of Hong Kong independence instead? Just like all those Mei memes. That would be far more powerful.
@Jolt Unfortunately by boycotting Blizzard I fear it will only end up hurting the hundreds of staff who worked hard making and maintaining Overwatch. The top brass will not be affected at all by any slight loss of sales. I'm not saying what they have done is correct but I think there are better ways of protesting.
@BENDsli Fear not, as was pointed out to me earlier I couldn't even spell heroin correctly! Think I will just stick with my "video game addiction" instead.
@RupeeClock That's exactly what I was thinking - this will be perfect for speedrunning! I really love this concept but I'm a completionist so I won't even be attempting the final level until I have finished all the others so hopefully it won't be too easy by that point.
Nintendo are always working on a Mario game so this is no surprise.
I wouldn't mind a new 2D game but I think it would need to be a complete reboot and something completely different to what we have seen before, otherwise it could just feel like a Mario Maker level pack. Perhaps a Metroidvania style 2D adventure game with a focus on platforming or something?
Honestly, trying to second guess Nintendo is usually completely futile though.
@Nintendzoey I hear you, Rare were my absolute favourite developer back in the N64 days. I loved DK64 when others didn't and have 100%ed all of Rare's 3D collectathons numerous times.
Don't forget though that 'A Hat in Time' is coming soon and that sounds like it will be absolutely perfect for you.
This is great news. I really wanted to love the first one but it just didn't click for me. This though has looked right up my street from the get go. I guess some retro styles are best left in the past but DKC gameplay is timeless.
@ozwally I can appreciate the art style is not for everyone. Over the decades Dragon Quest has developed a really distinctive look, so much so that if they ever did alter the look of the slimes (the blue blobs) for example then the fans would be in uproar. You raise a good point actually about whether Dragon Quest has painted itself into a corner with their simple cartoon-like designs being so synonymous. Final Fantasy has always changed and adapted its art style so that now in the age of HD they can create super detailed more 'realistic' looking characters without losing the FF identity. Dragon Quest simply cannot do that.
@sixrings The problem is though that EA use Fifa sales figures as 'proof' that it isn't worth their time to bring other, more complete games to the Switch. Not that we're particularly missing out on anything I suppose.
I'm not sure this actually counts as 'review-bombing' as normally that means unfairly giving a low score for an unrelated reason whereas here the zero scores seem thoroughly deserved.
@KnightsTemplar Not every game needs to hold your hand you know. The sense of isolation and disorientation is entirely deliberate and in keeping with the atmosphere of the game. Just fully explore the map and you'll be fine. There is no need to discover every secret on a first playthrough.

Shocking figures for Witcher 3 though. I guess we mark this up as just not being a Japan type of game?
