An honest question from someone who sucks at fighting games:

What makes an arcade stick preferable to a regular controller? Is it just nostalgia or do they offer more control/precision? What do the pros use?

When you stop and think about it I suppose those joysticks do go through a serious amount of strain. I've had mine over two years and despite constant use they still work fine. What is an acceptable amount of time for something to work until it wears out? My phone is a year older than my switch and it's pretty much dead now but as a society we seem to deem that acceptable. Back in the day I went through plenty of controllers for my mega drive and N64, we just viewed it as changing a spare part. There is a difference between a fault and wear and tear.

It was surely only a matter of time until this made the jump to Switch. I'm amazed it's taken this long really as it seems absolutely perfect for the system.

A Kickstarter being delayed? Surely not!

The new Wolfenstein looks really cheap. Is this not a full length release then?

@RupeeClock My Mario Maker 2 and Smash Bros game cartridges live in their swanky steelbooks. However they are kept in a drawer where no-one can see then, completely defeating the object.

I will no doubt hoover up this gorgeous Luigi's Mansion one too if it comes to the UK and then hide it away as well.

@Balta666 I think any Pro model would have needed to return an improved battery life regardless of extra power commitments. Given this current improvement to the base model however as you say I would probably now expect it just to match the performance.

That's a pretty significant improvement, so much so that if a Switch Pro had offered this much battery I'd have been well chuffed, let alone on a standard model.

@TeslaChippie Yeah I enjoyed them too and was guilty myself of making a few. Seeing what people could achieve was incredible (and put mine to shame) so I am happy for them to exist but I agree there were too many and could mess up online play. The tagging option now should fix everything though.

At the beginning I think there needs to be a limit. Finding a good course on the original was not always easy and if limiting people now forces them to only upload their best efforts instead of any old nonsense they knock up, then good.

In the future though we need talented course designers to be able to upload more than 32.

Anyone remember the rugby game from the last one? I thought that was absolutely brilliant and worth a game by itself.

Guess that means my full collection has just plummeted in value! This is good news though as everyone deserves the chance to own these. The Guardian and the Champions amiibos are some of the very best produced in my opinion.

@Heavyarms55 This is my point exactly. I have no problem with speculation based on evidence, inside knowledge, etc but so much 'news' these days is just guessing. Since the Switch was announced people have been speculating on a Pro version for example - this is not a rumour it is just pure speculation. I could start a rumour right now about Mario Kart 9 coming to the Switch, it may well end up happening but that doesn't mean I was ever right.

Write opinion pieces about why it would/wouldn't make sense by all means but let's please raise the burden of proof level somewhat.

@NinChocolate My point is that a mini would not change anything. The existence of a pro console would be more interesting to speculate on as that could open up new opportunities for new games/ports/features. Does anyone reading this website really not currently own a Switch because they are waiting for a Mini?

Also there is a difference between speculation and rumour and we have already drowned in speculative articles based on nothing so my appetite for rumours, even if there is something to them, is somewhat depleted at this point.

Can we stop this already? If Nintendo announce a mini then they announce it, if they don't then they don't. What is the point of this endless speculation?

Very cool. Really hope this reviews well as despite all the turmoil I think it looks great.

@roboshort I wouldn't mind them reusing some assets/locales etc in order to speed up production but as you say the exploration was the number one thing that made the first game so great so I really hope we don't lose that. Perhaps the map could extend to the north? Or maybe they will go all Link to the Past on us and introduce a dark world version of Hyrule?

I know Nintendo have said the game takes place in the same Hyrule but do we think that means the game map will be the same or were they referring more to it taking place in the same timeline/universe as the first?

@Mogster Cadence is a standalone game, not DLC, so you do not need Necrodancer.

Btw £5 for Hollow Knight is INSANE!

Honestly I'm expecting very little this year. There are already so many games we know coming that the Direct could easily be filled just by showing off those. If we just got some decent gameplay of all the upcoming titles with perhaps a sneaky Breath of the Wild sequel casually thrown in then I will be a very happy bunny indeed.

@MajinSoul I agree, there is no stigma nowadays about 'Indie games' (if there ever was), really they are just 'download only games' and every bit as worthy of our attention as the AAA releases and it's only fair that they are priced accordingly.

Anyway here in the UK we get really good regular eshop sales so if £20 is too much for people then I doubt they will have to wait long for it to be available for £15.

Not sure how people can possibly decide the price is too high without knowing how big the game is or how good it is. There still seems to be a perception that any eshop release should automatically be less than 15 quid or so. If the game gives 10 hours of fantastic gameplay then that is well worth £20.

Phew that's a lot of games. I'm not expecting anything new to be revealed but honestly with so much coming up i really don't mind.

You do get the impression (especially as a Nintendo fan) that sometimes games developers just hate money.

I'm down for this. Checked out the video on Playtonic's twitter and it looks great. My main issue with the first one was with how poorly it controlled and switching to a side scroller and top-down should really help. As long as they tighten up the movement this should easily surpass the original. The world design looks so much nicer too, not being held back by the need to copy the N64 feel this time has really helped.

Excellent news to see Luigi's Mansion and Link's Awakening are playable. They must be well on track for release.

Also if you think about it all the titles mentioned above are far more suited to a playable demo than Animal Crossing, which is too sedate to be fully appreciated in a quick hands-on demo on a busy showfloor. I would be perfectly happy with just a gameplay video and a Christmas release date.

£42 for a day-one download of a AAA game is an excellent deal. I'll still buy the cartridge for 40 quid elsewhere but for those who are digital only this is a godsend.

They are only £40 at Base. Doubt you'll do better than that.

@rex_rex $100 is only if you import them from Japan, the western pricing has yet to be announced (although they will be high end).
Edit: On reflection I'll be amazed if these are less than $100 in the West, I hadn't appreciated just how customisable they are.

Personally I think the designs are stunning and whilst I would happily own every single one of them I may well treat myself to just one. God knows how I'm going to choose though.

I've found this for pre-order at £61 on a website called Grooves Inc. Has anyone used them before? I've never heard of them so don't know if they're reliable.

Looks like I'll be leaving work an hour early on the 11th then. I'm not expecting anything new though, we already have Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion 3, Metroid Prime 4, Links Awakening and Pokemon coming so i can't imagine how there are any resources left for anything major still to announce. Perhaps it's about time the Third Parties pulled their weight and announced some more support?

I'm guessing that "Best Hits" makes more sense in Japanese than it does in English?

I really like that they are taking their cues from the comics and not the films. Gotta love Wolverine in that yellow jumpsuit.
