The only way I will be happy with the season pass is if the season pass gives access to dlc that takes the p*** out of dlc and season passes. Don't let me down Suda.
@JayJ Both your comments are pretty horrible and derogatory. If you're getting negative responses from people I suggest you think about the way you communicate with others.
Yay! This is great news that it's flopping hard. Keep it up guys. My purchases have dropped dramatically since I can't play online and hopefully I'm not the only one. Hopefully people are getting fed up with dirty paywalls and this is the turning point. The price you pay for a game is more than enough to cover the cost of online play, especially P2P. If the playerbase continues to be divided with only the die hards paying up and the majority not only refusing to sub but also walking away from buying online games they would have otherwise bought then there might be a U-turn. This online service has already lost them nearly £200 in sales on games I would have bought before the paywall. That means a lot people need to join up to make the money back on lost sales for me alone. Hopefully I'm not the only one
I stand by my original sentiment that the online should have stayed as part of the cost of the games and the sub should have been a choice that offers a wide selection of virtual console games. We could still have this if we stand our ground.
I agree that at the moment it's probably the worst version, but it has the potential to be the best. If they fix a few issues and keep the original graphics and frame rate it could be the definitive version.
Nothing is going to ruin having one or my favourite games ever on a handheld, but I am surprised from software allowed their masterpiece and game that put them on the map to be released in the state it's in. The sound issues, hit box problems and ai that results in some enemies running away or into walls endlessly is a shame. I really hope they fix these issues as a matter of pride.
This year has been awful for me as a gamer on the switch. As someone who has no interest in Smash or Pokémon , Octopath Traveler has been the only worthy release. Nintendo have totally lost me now along with the skanky online trap. Shame really, as it all started so well.
The switch has pretty much been dead to me since the online sub started. It just feels a bit dirty to me now, which is a massive shame as I loved it before, but now it feels tainted in a way that Nintendo have never been to me before. Mega Man 11 arrived today so I'm sure I'll get into that, but being reminded that I don't have the online sub regularly by games is annoying.
I'd really like to know the sign up ratios, is it possible to find out the percentage of people who signed up for the service? I was buying a game nearly every other week before, now Mega Man 11 is the first game in nearly two months. I wonder if other regular customers similar to me have slowed down with purchases as well.
@Realnoize Geez man, if you want people to actually read and respond to your comments try to avoid writing and essay lecturing them with the same point over and over. Look I get it, servers aren't free, but the money Nintendo makes can clearly cover the costs. It did with the Wii and that had a higher playerbase. To pretend that this isn't just a join the club cash/tie in is terribly nieve.
@faint Why would you pay for a beta version of anything? Look, I'm a long time Nintendo fan, but this is a gateway subscription that will only rise in price over time. I refuse to be financially tied to a corporation over long periods of time. They only way to ensure high quality is to buy a product that's of high quality in order to encourage more of the same. Giving a money orientated company your cash before they've done anything just encourages lazy practices and sub-par services and products.
@Realnoize @tech7 @Bunkerneath @faint Yeah, I know, it's Sky all over again. All it would take is one month of everyone refusing the service and we'd have a couple of premiership games on TV again at the weekend. The population is so easily manipulated this way. FOMO syndrome.
As for the whole 'free' thing, as far as I'm aware I'm paying £40-50 for each game and the last time I looked that ain't free. If you think that games like Splatoon haven't been profitable up to this point then it's time to get woke.
This has a good chance of flopping with all the negative feedback I've seen. This could be one of those 'consuner wins!' situations. Don't pay up and we could end up with free online for the rest of the generation.
I could go through these ridiculous steps to save a few quid, or I could stick with a large group of intelligent people who aren't going give in and sign up to an exploitative subscription that is a gateway to being financially tied to a corporation in order to carry on playing games I've already paid for.
It's not about the amount of money, it's the principle. Why is this so hard for people to understand? This whole scam has got a lot of negative feedback on YouTube, it would be nice if sites like this wrote interesting articles on something like that instead of agenda fuelled clickbait like this.
Does anyone else find this situation a bit odd? Don't pay anything for this game and the online play is free... Pay £50 for this game and you also have to pay extra to play it online.
How did it get to to the point where people voluntarily hand money over to companies for something that is easily paid for in the initial price? Not only that, they also shout people down for going against it with comments like "it's only $20, get a job loser!" Without realising they're the problem by just bending over and doing what they're told. It probably means that games like metroid prime 4 will require the sub with some shoehorned shinanagans as well. Shame, we're definitely approaching my stop on the gaming train. It's probably my last generation.
This is exactly how I feel. I very rarely play mario kart 8 or Splatoon 2 online and the £20 they're asking for just seems really off to play the main parts of two games I've already paid £40-50 for. Factor in the NES mini and the sub is basically a Nintendo tip jar (what it should be called).
It's a shame everyone here is going to give in and pay up because the service is getting a lot of negativity on Twitter and YouTube. If we all just stuck together and didn't sign up they would have to scrap the whole paywall thing in a month.
I feel that the online play in games should still be free and the sub should be for a large VC library like Netflix. I would be tempted to sign up then, but as it is I feel like I'm being taken advantage of and have no choice but to sign up if I want to continue playing games I've already paid for. My stubborn self will not give in to these sales tactics out of principle. For me it's about choice and this sub doesn't give choice, it just says pay up or you can't play some of your games anymore.
@puddinggirl "Does it mean I can no longer play Splatoon online if I don't subscribe?
This doesn't feel right..."
I think quite a lot of people are going to feel like this, especially the people who don't pay much attention to the directs and gaming in general. The people who keep going on about "it's only $20" are missing the point too. It's not about the low price, it's the principle and being tied to a company through a subscription that a lot of people don't like. Just wait, it'll be up to $60 a year soon enough. The low price is just a teaser to get you tied into the ecosystem so you can't back out when they decide to raise the price (the true bait and switch).
It's also a shame to see Nintendolife being so sickeningly positive about such a weak offering from the online and the sub. They clearly have the greasiest of palms. This whole thing benefits no one but Nintendo and the minions they'll promise to throw a bone to as long as they don't offer any criticism of them.
I still feel that introducing the paywall 18 months into the switch cycle is a terrible descion. Not only have we all got to see how bad the service is, they're also taking away parts of games that we feel like we've already paid for, leaving a bad taste in the mouth. Add that to many people paying for another service on Xbox or ps and I can see this backfiring on Nintendo in a big way.
What they should do at this point is keep the online multiplayer free, but charge for an extra service that offers something people are willing to pay for, such as a big retro library.
Might wanna get that subscription sausage out of your mouth when your trying speak, can't hear you properly from all the slurping. Honestly, the concept of pre-ordering a subscription service is beyond ridiculous.
Seriously, why bother? It's like they don't understand why people want physical copies. As others have said, don't bother with a physical release if you can't fit the game on the cart or won't pay for a larger capacity. I guess the game can still be sold on, but the main reason people want a game on the cartridge is as a collector, so we have a hard copy of the game to keep beyond the system's sell by date. In fact all they're doing is feeding into the second hand market with this practice and taking away the person who buys a game to keep, which is what they should be activly encouraging.
Pretty sure the game has been held back for the paid online. They know that Dark Souls players are fanatics and will most likely pay to play it online. I hope I'm wrong and it's a game that runs online without the sub, but it all whiffs a bit to me. They'll need to convince as many to pay up as possible and it'll work unfortunately.
Always free WiFi on the go, now that would be tempting. The state of mario tennis and street fighter 30th anniversary online has been embarrassing. There is no way I'm paying a subscription to not play games online after an hour, realising how bad they are connection-wise. Prepare for the big divide everyone, it was nice while it lasted if not a bit laggy.
Ouch, the site's quality really has taken a massive dip recently. It's so clear that the new editor has no passion for Nintendo and suspiciously comes across as someone who spends more time playing Xbox and PS4 games before realising he needs to knock up something for the site on his phone taken from a site like nintendo everything, autocorrect errors and spelling mistakes included.
So close, but couldn't get the most important part right... the online. I've had it since yesterday and was really enjoying the game with arcade and training. Then I went online and it went downhill pretty quickly. This can't be it surely, there has to be a fix soon. I've had maybe 2 or 3 solid matches out of 25ish matches, the rest have been so laggy. The review really should mention this as it's a pretty big issue with the game and it's not my internet as that works fine with games like Rocket League and Splatoon 2.
A new Mario Maker linked to the old accounts is all I want. Don't expect it before a new 2d Mario though. Even better a new Mario Maker with a new 2d Mario included using all the different styles. Now that would be amazing!
@Heavyarms55 It's a small minority and media hype that love the royal family. The rest of us couldn't give a fudge. The whole royal family thing is mainly for world image as it brings in stupid amounts of money through tourism.
Also, to add to your point, yes the other companies have been charging more for the past five years, but Nintendo has still come out pretty well overall. A lot of that is due to the fact that they have done things differently and people like me have left Sony and Microsoft because we were fed up with the all the extra little costs of just being a gamer in general. The fact that Nintendo offered me games complete on release without annoying extra little costs here and there is the main reason I've been happy to stick with them the past 5 or so years. I want to pay for a game, enjoy it and that's that. I've got no time for companies that want to 'be a part of my life' and tie me down to subscribing to them on a long term basis. As a customer I want the choice of paying for something and walking away with it in my possession.
Nintendo didn't get to the healthy financial position they're in by copying other companies. Doing so now could turn quite a few of the faithful away.
It's the thin end of the wedge. The cost will rise to beyond the initial £20 before long with numerous packages for different gens of games. All this has done is reinforce my reluctance to join the digital revolution in games. What Nintendo should have done is suck up the minimal cost of porting over virtual console games and straight up allowed their loyal customers to carry over games they have already paid for. Had they done this I would have had more faith when buying digital games, as it is I have now completely given up on buying digitally as I know I'm essentially renting games, not buying them.
It's not the minimal £20 cost that's the issue for me, it's the process of luring in the customers to a subscription system that will gradually rise and offer no more than we already had and have already paid for numerous times that annoys me. The majority will go along with it regardless and Nintendo will make a killing.
The only way I would have been happy with a subscription system is if I could still play the games I've already paid for online, such as Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart as well as the basic online functions in games that require them in the future, but the subscription was a choice that offered me a wide selection of games that I could decide if I wanted to sign up for or not. Instead we are being forced to pay more just to have the basic functions of games given back to us.
Cross-play parties should be a priority, why is it taking them so long? I have two mates on PC and we've all stopped playing because we're so bored of playing against the A.I and people dropping out of ranked matches is far too common as well as coming up against a team of mates who just destroy you. Seriously, would it really be that hard to apply the passcode system they have in private matches to the party system?
Being able to back up your saves should be standard. The fact that people are excited about paying for it is baffling to me. I don't really want to pay to play the occasional online match of splatoon or Mario Kart. If they're not careful the online community might become much less populated pretty quick. Personally September will be the end of online gaming for me if there's no way to play the games I've paid for the way they were intended without coughing up more cash. The fact that the online structure since launch has been so lackluster hasn't helped matters. Ho-hum, turning players into payers is the future and it's a party I will not be attending.
If they really cared about the whole thing they would have changed the name across the board or not even mentioned the delay and just done it as no one gave two bits about the game anyway. As it is, they've used a tragedy to publicise their game and it'll probably work. Sad times. Nintendolife right behind them, writing articles about it just for the clicks.
I think a lot of people are thinking the same way as I am about labo. I'm interested, but not at that price when the actual software has little to offer except a few hours of messing about. Totally waiting to find a copy of both sets in a bargain bin for a weekend of checking it out, taking it apart again then never using it again. Harsh, but true. £40 for both sets feels about right for me, but I'm not the target to be fair.
@Pizzapasta
This makes a lot of sense. I was thinking it would be great to play the game online for free over the summer then decide if the paid subscription was worth it. Now with it coming out closer to the online paid service they will force a lot more people to pay for it if they want to play dark souls online. Pretty sneaky of true. I'm still not sure how the subscription will go down, it must be the first console to suddenly charge people to play online after it was free for over a year. I feel that you should still be able to play games like splatoon online for free, Nintendo might be a bit shocked by the number of people who just stop playing online games cause they don't like paying a subscription.
Or.. a positive outlook... It could be because they've found a way to get it running at a higher/smoother framerate and needed a little more time. A solid complete version of the game on a Nintendo cart is the most important thing for me, so as long as we get that I don't really care when it comes out.
I try to avoid writing negative posts, but it seems like switch owners are looked at as cash cow fools and publishers are starting to treat them as such, shame.
I've honestly got plenty to play already, but man is that a stinking list o' nuttin'. It feels like an age since Xenoblade Chronicles 2 now. Being able to go back and play games like Bayonetta and Donkey Kong TF is saving me money, but I'm screaming out for something new to get excited about. It's a bit sad that the only game I'm hyped for until Project Octopath is Dark Souls, an eight year old game I've already played to death. It seems like this year's release schedule isn't aimed at me in the slightest. Perhaps I was a little spoilt last year.
@Jayronauron That ain't gonna get fixed because it's an issue specifically affecting you. I've had the game crash maybe twice in thirty hours. Crashing every other match sounds like a problem with your hardware.
This is awkward, on the advert they've used Nintendolife as a promotion review, giving the game an 8/10. I'm guessing it's from the original release, but you might want to speak to them about that, it looks a bit dodgy.
@MartyFlanMJFan
"Those Detective Pikachu ads are really starting to annoy me..."
Me too, I wonder if the companies putting out these intrusive ads ever stop to think about activity putting people off buying their products. It's strange, everytime I see one of these ads on a site I instantly place negative connotations with what they are trying to sell. You should at least be able to switch it off after you've seen them once. Job's been done and everyone is happy.
This has all become way too confusing now. Once they stared charging for all the different dlc additions I've got no idea what's what with the game anymore. They just need to set a price for the lot and be done with it. A physical copy with everything on the cart would be useful. I have the game on 3ds, does that get all the extras for free like the Wii u did?
@Prof_Yoshtonics
I think it was a bit rushed as the framerate is a bit janky in places and there were some qol issues here and there. The game really grew on me though and now I think it's one of the best RPGs I've played. It's been patched and given a lot of extra stuff like ng+ which I'm prepping for.
I'd say the main thing to focus on is understanding the fighting system, it was a good 40 hours before I understood it fully, but man, when you start knocking out high damage combos in the millions it's awesome!
My only gripe is the dlc is £26, which is obscene and I'm highly suspicious it was content originally planned for the main game that they didn't finish in time for release. Had the game has another year in development I think it could have been a stone cold classic. Still, as it is it has a messy charm that rewards you for sticking with it.
I'm finally going to get round to finishing Samus Returns and start the 3rd campaign on Fire Emblem Fates. Not to mention I've still got stuff to do in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Odyssey. How people don't have something to enjoy seems bizarre to me, I play games a lot and I've manage to build up a backlog without even trying. I'm actually quite pleased there hasn't been anything big since December. It's a shame Kirby is so average, the metro review making a case for him being a super villian that goes round destroying everything in his path did make me laugh though.
Why didn't they include a usb connector? If I could use this with switch, pc and ps3 I'd definitely be tempted, but even as a collector of snes games I would never consider this at that price. Still, it's a really beautiful piece of kit.
@chardir
This, plus the fact that all the indie games are old enough to have the whole game with all dlc and patches included. I think this is why the physical copies of indie games are doing so well on the switch. Collectors like to know that they can play their games down the line (the ones who open the boxes anyway) and indies provide this. Add in the factor of limited numbers released and it's a collector's wet dream.

The review really should mention this as it's a pretty big issue with the game and it's not my internet as that works fine with games like Rocket League and Splatoon 2.
Re: Guide: Nintendo E3 2018 Press Conference Schedule, Rumours, Hopes, And Dreams
@MoonKnight7
Agreed, I think it's more likely we'll see dlc tracks for MK8 deluxe than MK9.
Re: Guide: Nintendo E3 2018 Press Conference Schedule, Rumours, Hopes, And Dreams
A new Mario Maker linked to the old accounts is all I want. Don't expect it before a new 2d Mario though. Even better a new Mario Maker with a new 2d Mario included using all the different styles. Now that would be amazing!
Re: Random: Nintendo UK Can't Resist Getting In On The Royal Wedding Hype
@Heavyarms55
It's a small minority and media hype that love the royal family. The rest of us couldn't give a fudge. The whole royal family thing is mainly for world image as it brings in stupid amounts of money through tourism.
Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves
@YummyHappyPills
Because we're talking about Nintendo on a Nintendo fan site. I don't like the practice in general and that's why I don't have a PS4 or XBOX 1.
Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves
@YummyHappyPills
Two wrongs...
Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves
Sigh...

@IceClimbers
Thanks for letting me know.
Re: Rocket League Will Be Getting A New Arena, Extra Music And Fresh Competitive Season
Re: Reaction: What are Your Thoughts on Nintendo Switch Online?
Being able to back up your saves should be standard. The fact that people are excited about paying for it is baffling to me. I don't really want to pay to play the occasional online match of splatoon or Mario Kart. If they're not careful the online community might become much less populated pretty quick. Personally September will be the end of online gaming for me if there's no way to play the games I've paid for the way they were intended without coughing up more cash. The fact that the online structure since launch has been so lackluster hasn't helped matters. Ho-hum, turning players into payers is the future and it's a party I will not be attending.
Re: UKIYO Confirms Death Road To Canada Will Arrive On 8th May Without A Name Change
Re: Nintendo Labo Drops To Fourth (And 17th) In The Japanese Charts
I think a lot of people are thinking the same way as I am about labo. I'm interested, but not at that price when the actual software has little to offer except a few hours of messing about. Totally waiting to find a copy of both sets in a bargain bin for a weekend of checking it out, taking it apart again then never using it again. Harsh, but true. £40 for both sets feels about right for me, but I'm not the target to be fair.
Re: Dark Souls: Remastered Succumbs To Delay On Switch, Along With Solaire amiibo
@Pizzapasta
Re: Sega Announces AGES For Nintendo Switch, Mega Drive Mini Console
I try to avoid writing negative posts, but it seems like switch owners are looked at as cash cow fools and publishers are starting to treat them as such, shame.
Re: Nintendo Download: 12th April (North America)
I've honestly got plenty to play already, but man is that a stinking list o' nuttin'. It feels like an age since Xenoblade Chronicles 2 now. Being able to go back and play games like Bayonetta and Donkey Kong TF is saving me money, but I'm screaming out for something new to get excited about. It's a bit sad that the only game I'm hyped for until Project Octopath is Dark Souls, an eight year old game I've already played to death. It seems like this year's release schedule isn't aimed at me in the slightest. Perhaps I was a little spoilt last year.
Re: Treasure Teases Both Ikaruga And Nintendo Switch Fans
A treasure shmup collection on cart would be a...maz.....ing!
Re: Rocket League Version 1.0.5 Is Now Available For Download
@Jayronauron
That ain't gonna get fixed because it's an issue specifically affecting you. I've had the game crash maybe twice in thirty hours. Crashing every other match sounds like a problem with your hardware.
Re: Review: Gekido Kintaro's Revenge (Switch eShop)
@wearegamers
Oh yeah, my bad.
Re: Review: Gekido Kintaro's Revenge (Switch eShop)
This is awkward, on the advert they've used Nintendolife as a promotion review, giving the game an 8/10. I'm guessing it's from the original release, but you might want to speak to them about that, it looks a bit dodgy.
Re: Nidhogg 2 Hits The Switch eShop in 2018
@MartyFlanMJFan
Re: Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Gets A Permanent Discount For Specter of Torment Owners On Switch
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th March (North America)
@Prof_Yoshtonics
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th March (North America)
I'm finally going to get round to finishing Samus Returns and start the 3rd campaign on Fire Emblem Fates. Not to mention I've still got stuff to do in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Odyssey. How people don't have something to enjoy seems bizarre to me, I play games a lot and I've manage to build up a backlog without even trying. I'm actually quite pleased there hasn't been anything big since December. It's a shame Kirby is so average, the metro review making a case for him being a super villian that goes round destroying everything in his path did make me laugh though.
Re: Hardware Review: Shika Arcades SOZU.S1 Isn't Just The Ultimate SNES Stick, It's A Work Of Art
Why didn't they include a usb connector? If I could use this with switch, pc and ps3 I'd definitely be tempted, but even as a collector of snes games I would never consider this at that price. Still, it's a really beautiful piece of kit.
Re: The Flame In The Flood Is Getting A Physical Release On Switch
@chardir
