Bethesda knows how to get itself making headlines, and with E3 set to kick off later this week, of course we're all talking about Fallout 76. Is it another single-player Fallout? Is it an MMO in the same vein as The Elder Scrolls Online? Whatever it's going to be we should hear more about it on Sunday during the Bethesda keynote.
And that hype train continues to pick up speed as a recent Amazon listing - which was hastily updated, obviously - suggests the game is set to arrive a lot sooner than you think - the 31st July to be exact. There's a chance this could be a placeholder, but with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus due on Switch at the end of this month, a July release window would be a great way to takeover the summer.
Fingers crossed we'll learn more about Fallout 76 - and whether it'll be joining Bethesda's increased investment in Switch - during Bethesda's keynote at 02:30 BST on Monday 11th June.
Let us know what you think Fallout 76 might be in the comments below...

Rage 2 wasn't announced for the Switch. What makes you or anyone think Fallout 76 will come to the platform?
We know so little that this is too weak a link for it to be on a Nintendo news site imo.
Why don't you report on the NUK Labo competition instead?
Yeah baffled as well that you guys are reporting this. Platforms have been announced and doesn't include switch, guess you guys hoping for a hail Mary during e3?
This isn't happening people. Move along.
Nitpick: Sunday is on 10th, not 11th.
As for Fallout 76 I am not expecting anything good.
I hope I’m wrong, but there’s almost no chance of 76 coming to Switch. I think Fallout 4 has a chance though.
No way Bethesda is getting this game running on a Tegra X1.
Announce the Switch Pro at E3, Nintendo, and solve all of this!
The Switch only gets the inevitable battle royale.
I still think the idea of this game coming to Switch is incredibly optimistic, even with Nintendo and Bethesda's partnership of porting games over as of late.
Why is this NL news? There are no rumours and no indication that it’s coming to the Switch right now, lol.
still no preorder on Amazon for Wolf II....
That's one hell of a reach you've got there, NL.
Jeez....slow(no) news day. Pie in the sky reporting. Can’t see this one happening
The only reason NL is posting this is so that they can post the inevitable controversial "X game isn't coming to Switch!!!" article later on to get clicks.
I'm sure we all know this.
@EasyDaRon Honestly, I would take a Fallout 3 remaster over what Fallout 76 is reported to be.
I thought the listing spilled the beans - but it just re-enforces that it is only for PS4, X1 and PC
Why is this guy even an editor? Literally every article he writes is filled with mistakes.
You literally posted Playstation and Xbox news on a Nintendo site. Nice research you did there.
Can't see this coming to the Switch at all. Fallout 3 would be great though if that remaster is really a thing.
@gatorboi352
The switch was released 15 months ago... A new switch (people keep calling it switch pro, but this is Nintendo, not Sony) might be announced at E3, just not until 2020 at the very least.
A much as i doubt this Fallout spinoff to come to switch any time soon I will laugh my friggin *ss off if it does just because off your comments here guys. Cut Dom some slack, for all we know it is coming to Switch.
Id love to see this on switch but i find it highly unlikely that it would be. considering fallout 4 runs terribly in places on a ps4 in some areas. i can hope anyway !
@AyeHaley
nope, we KNOW it's not coming:
https://gear.bethesda.net/products/fallout-76
@Kneppy18 No
@EasyDaRon Why would that be a let down? Fallout 3 or New Vegas are the best games in the series. Whatever this new game is trying to be I don't care, it's only using the Fallout name to sell the game rather than creating a new ip.
Alas I have no idea why this is being posted on a dedicated Nintendo site, when it's not coming to the Switch.
@EasyDaRon I would so much rather have Fallout 3 remastered, if the rumors about 76 are true at all. 3 was my favorite one.
Why is this on a Nintendo site?
If it comes so early, then its probably not Fallout 5, but just a downloadable spin-off.
My switch could barely run fallout 3, no chance were seeing this
This just seems like clutching at straws.at best.
I'm looking forward to the "Fallout 76 Skips the Switch." article next week that will generate loads of comments.
i don't understand why a NINTENDO news site is talking about a game NOT CONFIRMED for a Switch release.
So question. Why do you guys keep posting stuff about this non switch title YET haven't posted a single article about the announcement of Warriors Orochi 4 (a title far more likely to get a switch release on reveal) and not even one when its confirmed switch bound?
@XenoShaun Well, that is mostly due to the fact that most do not really care about Warriors Orochi unless it has an IP attached to it (Hyrule, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, etc.). The game is very niche without that, while Fallout had 140k people watching a stream of a bobblehead for 24 hours while waiting for an announcement.
I would not get your hopes up about this one.
@Menchi187 No what?
I'm sorry but people are delusional if they think Fallout 76 will be released on the Switch.
If that ever happens it will be ported later just like Wolfenstein.
According to the rumours, it will be a online game and online is not something that Nintendo is very good at so that is already a barrier for this game to be released on the platform.
I'd expect a port of Fallout 3 and 4, those games are feasible.
Regardless of the games I just hope that Bethesda will keep supporting the Switch, it would really really nice to see an exclusive game developed in the same way like Mario + Rabbids was made with Ubisoft.
They don't need to borrow any Nintendo IP, just create something exclusive.
@gatorboi352 Possibly in the year 2020.
@Kneppy18 4 is not possible
@tourjeff 4 is not viable on Switch
@Menchi187 How is 4 not viable? It runs on the same engine as Skryim Remaster. Just curious what would hold it back as the Switch would be able to have it scaled.
@Darknyht We get tons of articles about indies and other titles no one cares about. WO4 is a pretty big title and gets decent sales. WO3 being very well received in the West.
Guys its VERY clearly not coming to switch. Seriously. Cut the crap NL, no need to keep reporting on this game.
@Menchi187 Not impossible. If they can bring Wolfenstein over, its possible. Difficult yes, impossible no.
I have some inside info that the actual release date is sometime in September....
@Kneppy18 Doesn't work that way.
@Menchi187 Explain. Why couldn't they make a port like they did for Wolf and Skyrim Remastered?
@Mgene15
Please tell me how you got Fallout 3 running on the Switch?
@EasyDaRon Thanks for clarifying.. I was wondering why this continues to be a topic of discussion on Nintendo boards.
@gatorboi352
Absolutely no one is going to make games exclusively for this fabled "Switch Pro", which is a product that likely won't launch until next year.
Why is this on this site? I really doubt it's coming to Switch...
@westman98 that hasn't been a deterrent for Nintendo in the past. There's precedent here: DSi and New 3DS.
I'm not saying it's impossible that it'll come to the switch but it seems highly unlikely. I feel like this type of article is trying to make our hopes and dreams into reality. Like maybe if we hype it up enough God Howard will drop Fallout 76 Switch edition from the heavens for us.
@gatorboi352
I don't think there were any DSi-exclusive retail games. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and a very, very, very late port of Minecraft are the only New 3DS-exclusive retail games. Hardly anything relevant.
DSi-ware and the SNES Virtual Console were also locked behind the DSi and New 3DS respectively, but those aren't big retail releases and were probably locked behind the newer revisions to get people to upgrade, not because of hardware constraints.
If you're going to post non-Nintendo news, NL, you might as well go all out and start posting non-video game news as well. With the World Cup right around the corner it'd be perfect. I'm looking forward to your reaction when England loses in the Round of 16.
Clickbait garbage once again. This site is going downhill fast.
@westman98
*could
@Menchi187 Do you know that Skyrim SE runs on the updated version of the same Engine that Fallout 4 is on?
Also according to the listing, it's not coming to Switch. It's only coming to PC, PS4, and XBone (look under "Platforms").
Honestly, if we only get Fallout 3, I'll be good.
@Mgene15
"My switch could barely run fallout 3..."
This seems to suggest you got Fallout 3 running on the Switch to see how it would perform. Mind telling me how?
Even if it did come to the Switch, Bethesda would impose a hefty download due to their miserliness.
Pass.
Dude, it's not announced for Switch. Preorders are already live and Switch is NOT one of them.
Please stop posting articles about games that aren't coming to Switch. You get people all riled up over something that's not happening (but I think you guys know that).
If, by some oddball chance it does get announced, then post an article.
@gatorboi352 I thought E3 covered games and hardware, not cooking panels.
@westman98 there's also Fire Emblem Warriors and Runbow at retail
Why would they bring this to the switch. As of right now I think they held their end of the bargain. I don't know what other game they should bring the console. Wolfenstein took some magic to do so. Yeah I believe the support is done after this unless they build a side project.
@gortsi
Forgot about those, though those 2 games are even less relevant than Xenoblade 3D and Minecraft. Nothing on the scale of Fallout 76.
Why is Nintendo Life posting this?
It seems the community is still in the "Switch is not getting the latest AAA games" mindset.
The mindset is probably still valid. And I am not an insider by any means, but I do think Nintendo is the only company with any big E3 surprises still yet.
There is a spark of hope inside me that thinks Bethesda has more in store for the Switch. Maybe not Fallout 76, but something. We are definitely in an era where Nintendo gamers and journalists are paying more attention to Bethesda. That's progress to me.
@westman98 on a good note, NBA 2K19 is coming.
@EasyDaRon I'd buy 3 on Switch in a heartbeat. Same with New Vegas.
@JaxonH The sad part is that this author knows what dumb intentions he's doing. Because he almost never writes a good article (news worthy, grammatically, or opinionated), he continually tries to find news where Nintendo is not involved. I believe this isn't even close to the first time he's done this.
Crap quantity over crap quality, and NL still won't do anything about him.
@BlueKnight07
I believe some AAA games are coming, but certainly not all. Bethesda said they do intend to announce more Switch games, but that doesn't mean it's going to be every one of them. They basically said if the game can run and it's a good fit, they see no reason not to bring it.
But the truth of the matter is we can't go expecting every game that's announced to get a Switch version. Best to assume nothing is coming unless specifically announced. Because while some games will come we have no idea which ones those games will be. We'd just be shooting blind in the dark here.
Btw it'll either be Fallout 4, if they can get it running properly which I'm not entirely confident they will be able to do. My guess is we'll see Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3. People love those games, and they would look good in run great on the system.
A great fit if I do say so myself.
@N8tiveT3ch
Support is definitely not done, and Bethesda has said as much. They even said they intend to announce future Switch games day and date with other versions, when possible.
Now, that doesn't mean I think this game is coming, because I don't. But support is definitely not done. We'll get a Fallout Game. Either Fallout 4 if they can manage, but more likely it'll be New Vegas or Fallout 3. Could also get DOOM 2, Wolfenstein New Order, Dishonored (not sure about Dishonored 2, but it's possible), and select future game announcements that can be made to run on the system and are a good fit.
@JaxonH Not everything is coming, I agree. Fallout 76 is definitely not announced for Switch so far. I do think (or want to think) they have something for their conference that no one has leaked. I just felt there was a lot of people ruling any Bethesda games out. I do think Fallout 3 or New Vegas will more likely happen (well remembered, can run on Switch). I think the first Wolfenstein is possible if Wolfenstein II sells.
Not coming to Switch, Bethesda's gonna Bethesda, move along.
@Xenoguner Bang on. He seems to put far more time in to his Techradar articles than anything he's written for this site. Maybe it's because they're not Nintendo articles? The biggest problem with the new editor is that he's unable to proof-read articles (his own and other contributors). It's a good thing this site has Shiryu, Ryan and Mitch to keep it ticking over.
Tom left because he had too much integrity to be posting useless articles like this, which is exactly what the management want because clicks equal cash.
@Yasume I knew it was Dom without even having to look at who wrote the article. I've been following this site for years, although now I'm just getting tired of how lazy everything here seems to be. A complete lack of regard for editing, useless articles like this, inconsistent information...
@Jack_Goetz Oh man, if that's the intention of the rest of the writers here, this site would really have gone to crap x.x And I would also assume that's the reason why none of the other editors seem to have said anything about his writing styles (or lack there of).
It would be a safe bet we're gonna see a lot more of these types of articles once E3 rolls next week. Gotta brace ourselves for disappointment T.T
Ouch, the site's quality really has taken a massive dip recently. It's so clear that the new editor has no passion for Nintendo and suspiciously comes across as someone who spends more time playing Xbox and PS4 games before realising he needs to knock up something for the site on his phone taken from a site like nintendo everything, autocorrect errors and spelling mistakes included.
Oh man, the salt in the comments. Love it. "Fire this guy!!!!!" :')
Has any Fallout-game EVER been on a Nitnendo system? Mainline or spin-off?
@Old-Red I don't think Dom's doing QUITE as poorly as you give him credit for. And remember the awkward soapboxes Thomas had at times (clickbait), but I can't disagree there's an odd frequency of posts that seem to not relate to Nintendo at all, while other more Nintendo oriented topics/games seemingly get little mention. The roundup post today covered more of those other games than they've been covered in months.
@JaxonH No reason FO4 can't run if Skyrim SE runs. Same engine, but FO4 is the slightly older version. Out of the box it won't run, but it's no harder to do than Skyrim was. It's just Skyrim had the incentive to release on the PC twins in an HD package to fund development, Switch, not so much
Personally I'd prefer New Vegas anyway. Haven't played it and to me Fallout will always be Black Isle's takes. I bought FO4 for $10 on X1....no idea if I'll ever actually play it. Bethesda fallout is such an unfun, dreary place. Black Isle (and Obsidian's in New Vegas) was a bright, fun place in a dreary locale. I love Bethesda, but they really broke what was great about FO....no idea how it gained such popularity. New Vegas looks fun though.
@gatorboi352 Yes gator, Nintendo should announce, 1 year and 3 months after releasing their wildly successful popular console that they're throwing everyone who bought one under the bus and obsoleting it with a successor. With brilliant business strategy like that, who could fail?
I mean even Sony's not that arrogant!
@Hughesy "Why would that be a let down? Fallout 3 or New Vegas are the best games in the series."
Heck just get the rights to port FO2 and I'll buy the LE for $150. FO1 was classic, if short. FO2 is the height of the series (and of the genre at large.) It's all been downhill since then. I was so hyped for Fo3 and bought the PC CE and the CE guide book. I played it for like 2 weeks and was so turned off by the blandness of it all I never touched it again. The game forumula is fine, I'm a huge TES fan. But it's not FO. It's just an apocalyptic wasteland RPG branded with the FO name.
@NEStalgia
Not sure I agree.
Skyrim was 60fps on PS4 and X1. 30fps on Switch.
Fallout 4 is 27-28fps on PS4 and X1. There's little to no surplus to cut for a Switch version.
edit
And while Skyrim and even DOOM can run on GPD Win 2, Fallout 4 needs a downgrade mod to run.
@JaxonH The engine history for the Bethesda RPGs is a sordid affair. They used to use Gamebryo which was infinitely awful and always was known to be, then they source licensed and branched it and have been working on retrofitting it as their own engine, so each game ends up on a different build. But they have that id Software magic going on, slowly but surely.) Doom and Wolf (and Rage...so there's hope) are the id Tech engine, so totally different (and MUCH better availability, it all comes from the Quake engine, after all.)
Fallout 3 and Oblivion (and Morrowind) used Gamebryo itself. The horrible, infamously bad engine that could grind dual Xeon SLI rigs into powder back in the day while not looking all that good.
Skyrim was the first game to fork Gamebryo into an early Creation engine. It was still mostly Gamebryo under the hood but they started customizing it for Skyrim.
Fallout 4 was built on the next iteration of what was the Skyrim version of the engine. It received a lot of criticism at launch for performance and still not looking so great.
Skyrim SE (which is the one running on Switch) is basically a slightly updated (or at this point after the PS4Pro/X1X patches parity) version with Fallout 4's Creation build. With the latter post-launch performance updates added in. FO4 is likely using higher res textures and more intricate models on PS4, more particle effects, shaders etc...though the PC builds demonstrate that can be scaled down quite a bit. Engine wise they already have what they need. If AI, model density, or texture resolution is bogging it down, that could be an issue. But it's not an engine issue, more of an asset/enabled-features issue.
Schreier, the main source of the multiplayer rumors, already said it's not an MMO. So like research if you're going to write an article or something.
Slow news day? not EVEN a HINT of a rumor of it coming to Switch.
Just reading the comments here is like reading the comments that FIFA 19 wasn't coming to Switch. I'm not saying that means that this game will but for a person who's bio states he loves playing Skyrim to then have a bunch of rim jobs complaining that he's reporting on another Bethesda game potentially coming to Switch... well I think i rest my case
I've never played a Fallout game so any iteration would be interesting for me!
Okay, IF Bethesda releases Fallout 76 for the Nintendo Switch it would be late 2019 or early 2020 at best IF ever.
