Re: Hideki Kamiya Insists Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Fine"

Old-Red

They should never have announced it so early, Astral Chain was announced and released in that time. As much as I want to believe it's all fine I'm having serious doubts now.

A friend and I joked that Bayo 3 had to follow the trend and become a map mopping open world. I'm beginning to think we were closer to the mark than we realise. This game has fallen into development hell territory in my opinion.

This and Metroid Prime 4 have become the biggest let downs this gen for me. They were the two games I was most looking forward to on the switch and both have now taken so long the games could never live up to the hype they've generated. I'm trying to stay positive about them both, but in reality I'm preparing to be let down.

Re: Poll: Did The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partners Showcase Meet Your Expectations?

Old-Red

No option for 'I expected nothing and was still disappointed.'

I think at this point Nintendo would be better off just coming out and saying that they are just going to work away as much as they can and there won't be any announcements until things have calmed down with the current situation.

There must be a reason why they can't/don't want to talk about any upcoming releases. Maybe they think it's a bit disrespectful to try and promote entertainment products when such a serious issue is going on, which I would understand. I guess trying to push your company at the moment is a bit off.

Re: Japanese Game Director Swery Will Rewrite At Least One Scene In Deadly Premonition 2

Whilst I would respect the wishes of a transgender person and avoid deadnaming someone, I think it's a bit scary to not acknowledge how easy it is to make a mistake or say the wrong thing. Jumping to the conclusion that someone is doing it with bad intentions is unfortunate.

As for not allowing fictional characters in a story to deadname someone, even out of spite, this I cannot agree with. Are the people upset with this saying that it is unacceptable to have transphobic characters in a fictional story? That seems like dangerously restrictive territory to me.

Re: Nintendo New York Store Windows Smashed During Riots In Manhattan

Old-Red

@Damo This article is the equivalent of walking into a room and starting a fight between two parties, filming it and then profiting off the footage. Not only that, you have the gall to act all holier than thou and demand people not get heated or upset. Shame on you! If you had any shred of decency you'd take all the ads off the page and not allow comments. Better yet, maybe not even write such a disrespectful article in the midst of something which is far more important and than a shop window being smashed.

Re: Animal Crossing Devs Reveal How Long New Horizons Has Been In Development

Old-Red

It was worth it too, both me and my partner are really enjoying the game so far. It's so nice to get a game like this at the moment and I'm relieved to find that my worries about possible microtransactions were not founded. You can tell that a lot of care, love and hard work went into New Horizons. Well done and thanks to all involved.

Re: PlatinumGames Announces Project GG, A Brand New Game From Hideki Kamiya

Old-Red

All this pr posturing is getting a bit tiresome. It also seems like just the kind of nonsense Kamiya wouldn't tolerate. I love Platinum and their games, but can they just get back to making and releasing quality titles please. They're announcing all this new stuff yet have other projects that were announced way too early and are still yet to be released.

I thought the industry had realised that announcing games too early just means that people are fed up of them by the time they come out.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct No Longer Mentions One-Time-Only Save Data Recovery

Old-Red

I'm sorry, but all this nanny state/totalitarian control of saves and the way we can play the game stinks of microtransactions, it really does. The fact that Nintendo is storing all our saves in the cloud, but not giving us access to them is out of order and I'm steering well clear of this game until I know I'm not going to have real money purchases constantly shoved in my face.

I found it funny in the direct that when they started the faq section they conveniently dodged the biggest most asked question... 'Will New Horizons have microtransactions?'

At the very least, Nintendo is going to store information from people to work out how to encourage spending from players in the future games.

Re: Feature: Super Rare Games On 2 Years Of Switch Releases And The Future Of Physical Media

Old-Red

I see the switch as the last big hurrah for my collection of physical games. I'm slowly picking up any game that interests me when I see a good deal. I'm really looking forward to when the next Nintendo console comes along and we start seeing more switch games second hand and cheap in thrift stores and charity shops. Sad as it may be, one of my favourite hobbies is checking shops in towns I visit for second hand bargains and rare games.

I'm guessing the next gen will fully embrace digital distribution and most games will be unpayable without patches and downloads. As it is most switch games work fine without a download. Luckily the switch has also been really successful which means there will be a lot of games on shelves over the next decade.

Re: Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations

Old-Red

Weird, surely they knew people wanted the persona games on switch. I thought it was Sony stopping them from bringing the series to a Nintendo platform.

If they can bring a persona collection to switch it seems like a no brainer to me. I guess they'd try to sell each one individually though. Can't blame them really, but that's where the endeavour might fall flat. If I was them I'd release all of them digitally then have a special physical release with the whole series for £80-100. I'd pay £80 for the whole persona series on one cart.

Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered Smashes Its $1.5 Million Stretch Goal, Platinum Reveals Two More

Old-Red

This game has the classic Platinum issue of not really shining til your second playthrough. That's why so many people don't understand the love for it and why there are some who adore it because they put the time into it.

I found the game super frustrating, but then it clicked late on in my first go and pushed me to play it again. Man, when you start linking combos in Wonderful 101 I personally think it's platinum's best fighting system to date.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

Old-Red

I have the Witcher 3 on PS4 from over a year ago when I picked up the console. I started it but couldn't get into it. Then I got it on switch and I'm now near the end of the DLC. I'd have never got through the game on PS4, mainly due to the updates, downloads and start up times you mention. Plus the fact that I can mop up undiscovered locations on the tube.

Honestly, I have games like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn festering because I can never be bothered to fire up the PS4. I feel like the point of diminishing returns in graphics has come for me. Unless Hidetaka Miyazaki is involved, then the rest of the world might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Old-Red

I'm just finishing up the game at the moment and I have enjoyed it immensely. Best game ever though? I simply cannot agree here when there are games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Zelda BotW and LttP kicking about. The combat is so poor and becomes basically pointless after about halfway through the game to the point where it might as well not be there at all. The controls in general are pretty awful in truth. The script and story (especially the side quests) are superb though.

Re: Feature: The Best Hidden Gems And Underrated Switch Games Of 2019

Old-Red

I've either already got or I'm waiting for physical releases of most of these. Ni No Kuni is an odd choice though. Everyone knows it's a good game, but underrated? Not really, the main issue is that it's a really old game that's way too expensive. The reason it hasn't sold well is cause it's still £45 at most retailers, not because it's gone under the radar. I'm guessing most people are waiting for it to get to below £20 just as I am.

Re: Review: Mario Kart Tour - Steer Around The Gacha For A Fun, Free Take On The Series

Old-Red

I'm surprised this site are being so forgiving of this game and the direction Nintendo are taking. The more successful these games are the more irrelevant this site will become. Unless they fancy reviewing subpar mobile gacha games for a living.

It's a real shame to see Nintendo give in and join in with the addictive gambling side of modern gaming. More money from a select few vulnerable people, less work and minimal cost or risk in terms of development. I can see why everyone in the industry is tempted.

Re: PlatinumGames Thanks Players For Making Astral Chain "Such A Success"

Old-Red

So glad for them. Platinum really needed that one big success to show them that all those years of hard work and amazing games would finally pay off. I was getting worried that they'd never get rewarded for all they've given me. Hopefully this will ensure many more high quality action games from them for years to come. Also, Nintendo should be praised for sticking by them and funding a lot of their games. They knew they were a quality studio and that it would only be a matter of time before the gaming community realised how good they are.
