The Switch has now been on the market - and in our very grateful hands - for just over a year and a half, but it's already amassed a staggering collection of 1,000 games. To celebrate, Nintendo has shared a brand new trailer showing just some of the highlights.
From Nintendo Labo and Super Mario Party to the upcoming Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the video suggests that "there’s a game for every gathering", and with such a wide variety of titles on offer, we'd have to agree.
Of course, the trailer doesn't waste the opportunity to show exactly how many different ways the console can be used too - on the TV, in handheld, on your own, as a group, on the train, with local wireless, and everything in between - promoting the "anytime, anywhere" slogan very nicely indeed.
What are your thoughts on Switch after all this time? Do you find yourself playing a wide variety of games in different ways? Let us know below.

1,000 games and still no way to efficiently find them ^^
LOL
To see Fortnite as part of SEVEN Recommended Switch games was so hilarious.
Fortnite was not even 1st party games.
need to show the pro controller more,dont want people thinking you have to use jdjdkdjbfkddjd joycons
Most are shovel wares, I missed the Wii U days of quality over quantity.
Cringy trailer is cringe...
The superbowl trailer will forever be the best
They allowed all that shovelware on the store just to say that they have over a thousand games.
@Retupmocnin Yeah ok. But the switch still has more quality games than the Wii U at this point. There is aLOT of garbage on the switch though. 😊
And no decent racing game (excluding Mario kart)
The Switch library really is incredible! Especially for us classic retro fans! Could use some more sports and racing games though...and some may argue it lacks AAA 3rd party games but we’ve come a long way since Wii U!!
1000+ games but 0 MMORPGs... Come on Nintendo!
@Retupmocnin Man, are you kidding me? Have you looked at the Wii U eshop lately? There is PLENTY of trash in that store.
I absolutely adore my Switch, in my opinion it's the best console ever as far as its gimmick goes and will probably end up being my third favorite console under the SNES and GameCube by the end of its life cycle (the top two simply can't be topped for me due to nostalgia and the fact that as a grown, jaded adult, games just can't quite capture the magic that they held for me when I was younger).
It might have a good amount of shovelware, but so do the other two consoles this generation. It also has a ton of my favorite games in the past ten years, including Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Shovel Knight, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Dark Souls, Minecraft, and a ton of other great games.
The fact that I can play it like a handheld and then snap off the joy cons, hand one to my fiance and game together on the TV (Actually we use Pro controllers for that, but you get the idea) is such a neat experience that the Switch's competitors just can't replicate.
Making a kid re-enact a Fortnite dance should be illegal.
Other than That, great ad.
@westman98
Gotta say, that floss dance cracks me up every time. It's so stupid.
@LunarFlame17 @Schizor88 No need to bother with him, he’s just trolling you.
There are a lot of great games on Switch and we’re not even two years in. I’ve had my Switch for almost a year now and already own 40 physical titles.
The ad was a little bit cheesy, but served its purpose.
1000 games lol 980 of them are utter rubbish!
Jesus Christ, the trolls are out in force today! Blimey.
The switch is the console I have bought the most games for out of all my consoles and I have most of them (well, kind of, from NES to Playstation 2 and all the ones inbetween)
True some of them I shouldn't have (as I am not good at them at all ie Flame in the Flood), but have enjoyed the majority of them, but there is a lot of shovelware, but thats just to be expected nowadays, even though Nintendo is supposed to vet them.
Hahaha people say it has no games haha haha.
People are funnyz
@Bozzydawg
You’re terrible at maths
@Ooyah Yeah, there are a lot of sock puppets here. Just put them on ignore.
This year has been awful for me as a gamer on the switch. As someone who has no interest in Smash or Pokémon , Octopath Traveler has been the only worthy release. Nintendo have totally lost me now along with the skanky online trap. Shame really, as it all started so well.
I have 25 of the 1000
@Quarth Ah, thanks. I don’t pay much attention to the comments usually, so I don’t know who the known trolls are.
As for the number of quality games on the Switch, it’s ridiculous. I have over 100 games on my Switch, plus another couple of dozen or so on my wishlist that I can’t afford to buy yet. I actually sold my Xbox One because I was spending most of my time playing the Switch and didn’t even enjoy playing games on the Xbox anymore. Anyone who thinks there aren’t enough good games on the Switch is either dumb or trolling.
Rather than make a "lol but 980 of them suck" joke, I have an actual valid question - how many of the 1,000 games the Switch has are ACA titles or similar ports/emulations of retro titles?
I'm not asking this as a "gotcha, they don't count" question, more out of curiosity, because to me, the switch represents possibly the single best retro arcade machine money can buy, due to the sheer amount and quality of retro stuff on offer there.
Metacritic lists 41 games in the last 3 months with a score of 80+, but OK sure, the Switch has no good games.
@neyoung8 buy fast RMX
@Bozzydawg I would say there's probably 30 worthwhile games and 970 rubbish ones.
But saying that... 30 good games and lets be honest now, 5 to 10 of them are defo must own games, the other 20 combined is worth any console purchase.
Not even 2 years in and the worthwhile games can give 1000+ hours of fun makes the Switch a VERY attractive console. It just cannot be denied anymore.
60 games in my library so yeah it kind of has games lol
@Anti-Matter, 1st party does not mean best party. I don't like Fortnite, but numbers don't lie. The game's a hit.
To me, the Switch has one of the best, if not the best gaming libraries relative to its lifespan.
1000 games which will never satisfy the incessant complainers who have come to spam NintendoLife's comments these days.
I have over 50 titles myself. 26 physical and something like another 25 downloads. Around 30 total or so are "full releases" and the rest small indies. But like only 2 have I honestly been disappointed with.
@KryptoniteKrunch I never expected this, but as someone who grew up with every Nintendo home console (what? WiiU? Never heard of it!), the Switch has become my favorite. The games are excellent. The form factor so convenient.
@Anti-Matter really? It's no surprise as seeing it's a cultural phenomenon.
122 of that 1000 have a Metascore of 80 or more
All those shots with a christmas tree in the background...suggestive advertising 😅
Lots of good games but I don’t have time to play them... 😥
I'm quite surprised by the staggering amount of praise the game library is getting to be honest. Quite a few of the Switch triple A games are ports from the Wii U (or PS4/Xbox), so for me the amount of games I've got so far isn't that big. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy playing on my Switch and there are a fair amount of smaller titles available along with bigger games like Mario Odyssey and Octopath, but so far I prefer the gaming library of the Wii U, let alone the Wii or Gamecube.
@Retupmocnin and still get a score of 7 or 8 here lol
The only genre I seem to see a gap in is a decent FPS, notably one with 4-player split screen gameplay. If anyone knows of something I haven’t tried please suggest!
I have 14 of them.
I have 14 physical games and 36 digital. More than any console I've ever owned. It's got the games. I've grabbed some great games so far.
Official Nintendo Seal Of Quantity
@Old-Red I agree, i love the switch, but ive mainly been playing last years releases on switch. tis years been pretty disappointing for me and im not into smash. looking forward to warframe.
@Prizm Yeah, NL is easily confused, this wasn't a trailer celebrating 1,000+ games on Switch, it was a Christmas ad thru and thru. This 2 minute run will be broken up into 2 or 3 30 second ads for TV this holiday. One will be focused on the girl coming home for Christmas from college on the bus, one will be about family and playing together Christmas morning. But that's what it is, a Christmas ad, there may actually be more Christmas trees than games in it. 😂
@electrolite77
Yes your right I apologise for my ignorance. I meant 990 crap ones.
@Ooyah
Opinions are not trolls. Many people don't want to be sheep and have different opinions.
@rjejr for sure this is their Christmas ad. With Smash and Pokémon coming out in the season...
It’s been awhile since I’ve played some games that have genuinely delighted me but so far I’ve gotten so play quite a few on Switch- more than other recent consoles I’ve played. Some have been ports that I hadn’t heard of or gotten the chance to check out. So for me Nintendo has been doing great and knowing more is on the way makes me downright giddy.
@Bozzydawg
It’s nothing to do with opinions or trolling. Just being able to count.
@Bozzydawg you're the epitome of a troll though, coming out of your cave just to give your garbage opinion.
@EasyDaRon
Nah, this is Nintendo finally getting with the program. You need that top tier of games (and Switch has no problem there) but quantity and quality sells much better than quality alone. People like choice.
@gortsi
Please except my sincere apologies I never meant to cause you any offence with my personal opinion.
@electrolite77
Apologies I did take my socks off and try my best.
@Bozzydawg no offense taken buddy, Clint Eastwood said it best when it comes to opinions
Out of the 1000+ games I have completed 25 and can think of many more I would love to own. The Switch is such a great console and I can already tell it’s going to end up being one of my favorites.
@ShaiHulud
But you’re comparing the lifetime libraries of the Wii U and Gamecube to the Switch after nearly 20 months. The praise for the Switch is because in that time it’s amassed a library of 1000 games, 122 of which have a Metascore of 80 or more. At the equivalent stage of life the ‘Cube didn’t have Mario Kart or F Zero or Paper Mario or Pikmin 2. The Wii U didn’t have Bayo 2 or Smash or Splatoon or Mario Maker. For it’s time in existence, even allowing for ports (which every system has tons of), Switch is doing very well indeed.
Boomers and zoomers and their Christmas trees and nostalgia triggering indie rock.
And I bet Nintendo owed Bethesda a favor since Fallout Shelter of all things has its logo on that final collage.
Approximately 50 games digital and physical plus another 25-30 on my wishlist. What I love is that there are loads of mid-tier games on the eShop. Not exactly blockbusters or cult indie darlings but well made, unique titles that experiment and offer some enjoyability. Yes there is shovelware but not as much as the Wii had (though that had plenty of good and decent games too) but at least they make up a smaller % when compared to the Wii U. I recall going through the Wii U eShop and seeing so much crud. In contrast, every crud game I see on the Switch eShop is covered by a few interesting titles alongside.
Yeah, 1000 games. But then, even if many are great for fans of retro-gaming (or retro-inspired gaming), the Switch is still the platform (at least in Canada) on which playing costs the most money - most multiplatform titles on there being priced higher than on any other platforms, and often even when they're on "sale".
And their digital storefront is a complete mess too. How good is having 1000 games if most of them are hard to find or discover?
@electrolite77 Good point actually! And thanks for notifying me of Metacritic. I usually look at Gamerankings but it seems as if this site is a bit more thorough. Looking at the list though I realise I need to look more at the eshop section of my Switch, as physical releases over here are few and far between.
@electrolite77
'The praise for the Switch is because in that time it’s amassed a library of 1000 games, 122 of which have a Metascore of 80 or more.'
So In your words nearly 90% of 1000 games are below 80% Metascore.
I'd rather have quality over quantity. All about Opinions, one man's trash is another mans treasure Etc Etc. Everyone is different and likes different games. But you have to admit there is a HUGE pile of crap in that 1000.
1000 games + little exposure = big sales 😀😀
@LunarFlame17 I wonder how many of those games are on every other platform and are over 2 years old. Don't get me wrong I have about 20 switch games, but I still find myself in this land of playing those games on something else. Like overcooked 2. Friend of mine raves about it and has a pool of one person to play with. Good game, but I have a large pool of people to play with who mostly got it on PS4. Then you have Doom which I did enjoy, but I already played it and looked better and was a smoother experience on the platform I played on than what was on switch. Basically that twiddles the library down to almost nothing. I'm back to buying Nintendo games only. I might make an exception for final fantasy, but I can play everything from 1 to 10 on my vita already.
Not trolling, just the state of things. The system has some interesting titles, but I still find myself going back to PS4. I also commute by train for 45 minutes into work each day. I also fly back to see my family twice a year, still pull on the vita or 3ds. I'm thinking about dq8 or trails of cold steel for my 5 hour flight next month, not botw or Xenoblade.
@NotSoCryptic Oh that’s totally fair. It’s just that, in my case, I love playing games on the Switch so much that I want everything on it. Doom is a great example. I played it on Xbox One, but I prefer the Switch version, and it’s because of the portability.
Wolfenstein II is another game that I played on the Xbox One first, and I actually didn’t like it very much, but for some reason, I bought it again on Switch, and loved it when I played it a second time on Switch. That was the exact moment when I decided to sell my Xbox One.
Anyway, I just love the Switch and want everything to be on it. I’m probably not typical, but the more old games get ported to the Switch, the happier I’ll be.
Wii u had more quality games
Did WoW have a data breach into the 4th dimension? I'm seeing a lot of trolls here.
...The Darkspear are welcome to stay though.
@DenDen LOL no.
@Grogan
2 points....
1) That arbitrary 8 out of 10 doesn’t give he full picture. You have 200 games rating 76 and above, and 300 games rating 70 and above. That’s pretty good.
2) The games you don’t buy don’t matter. If you’re finding high quality games (and the Switch has many), all you achieve by mandating a subjective measure of quality is alienate potential customers. The biggest selling systems of all time-PS2, Wii, DS, GBA-all have libraries that have a lot of very good games along with a lot of “bad” games and shovelware. That’s because there are audiences out there for Crossword Puzzle compilations and Nickelodeon games in the same way as for ICO and Mario Galaxy. The best thing a platform holder can do is get as many games out as possible and let the market decide.
@DenDen
Have you considered stand up comedy?
Nintendo is doing all right.
Keep on trucking.
Nintendo Switch is the most hybrid console of all time.
@Retupmocnin Wii U still had it’s awful shovelware, Ice Cream Surfer just came out again and was originally on Wii U
1,000 trash games.
I can’t be the only person who checked to see if they leaked any new Smash stages during that last part where the boy docked his Switch, lol. (Spoilers: They didn’t)
@Retupmocnin Say that again, this time with a straight face.
And I found 1 game in the last 4 months worth paying $60 for 🙄
This is how the Huawei Phone has 10,000 "games" 😂
I don't know I bought Switch for Smash and Animal Crossing.
Switch is hands down the best way for me to play. And there is something for every genre. Great time to be a gamer. I just need more free time.
@Agramonte I found about fifty games over that time span worth spending $20 on. They're even full-fledged games that don't require quotation marks, and they're why my backlog is only growing despite playing multiple hours daily.
@PanurgeJr I'm Sure some people can find 100 games worth paying $5 on their Huawei Phone.
I bought Flipping Death and Battle Chasers but Rather not spend what free time I carve out on budget stuff or games I already played. Especially when better new games are available.
@Retupmocnin Wii U got the same amount of shovelware, I remember searching on the eShop and finding lots of crappy games, hell the same can be said about the 3DS eShop.
@Anti-Matter I can understand the marketing aspect of it. And Nintendo did list a bunch of other third-party titles in the closing graphic.
