As if, this was clearly done on purpose to catch a load of people in the sign up. Then they apologise and fix it with a few extra thousand suckers on their mailing list and a higher brag number for the shareholders. Gross.
All hype I had for this game died along with the shoody performance and focus on gross abuse of missing content for nearly £10. I would have jumped on this if it was a solid physical release with everything on the cart. Now I'm not even that bothered about picking it up at all. I'll get it eventually, but it'll be when I see a copy for £10-15. Shame.
This means nothing, the only reason I have a sub now is because I found a cheap copy of Mario Maker 2 with the code for online. They've practically had to give it away through Amazon and twitch too in order to make the numbers look respectable. To harp on about it being a success is pretty lame.
@beazlen1
So, what you saying is that Nintendo make a game where we make all the content for them and do the majority of all the hard work and them getting the luxury of charging us for the pleasure is fair?
My argument is that it would be unfortunate if they held our uploads and progress to ransom by demanding to we stay tied to their lackluster online. Hopefully they won't do this.
The online sub must be doing really well if they're practically giving it away with copies of Tetris and Mario Maker 2. Not to mention the freebies that come from twitch subs. The annoying thing is they'll claim that 'so and so numbers have signed up' and 'it's been a massive success' when in reality they've had to give away a lot of yearly subs to cover over the fact that no one wants to be tied to the online ecosystem in this way. I fully expect that Nintendo will lock my Mario Maker levels behind the paywall and to keep them online I'll have to keep paying them a service charge year on year.
The game is wallowing in my PS4 backlog, but due to this show of respect to switch owners I'll pick it up day one. Whilst the industry seems intent on treating its customers like worthless cash cows it's nice to see some developers and publishers have a bit of pride (and accomplishment) left. Maybe there is some hope after all.
I love that even if they have put some hidden messages in the trailer backwards that they automatically presume it would be in English. Western centric much?
I've given up on super rare games since it became a rat race for their games. I wanted a copy of the fairune collection and it was gone in a few seconds. I'm not down with the whole waiting round refreshing pages to have a chance of getting a copy. Their games are overpriced too with a cheeky five pound shipping charge even within the UK.
In terms of environmental issues this is pretty disgusting. What's the point? Just release the game on the eshop and be done with it. I guess on the up side, there'll be lots of empty box copies left on the shelves which hopefully means a big drop in price quite quickly.
Sekiro next please I've been playing it constantly for three weeks now and it's easily my game of the generation. I would love to have it on the switch and I could see it happening with a nip and tuck in a few places.
This is just getting silly. Did they have to pick sgr similar to super rare game too? It's just making the whole thing way too expensive and confusing.
So US only? What happened to the EU version? I wanted to get this as my last physical Wii U game as it's a good one and should be quite rare. I do like limited run, but I wish they'd slow down a bit with the switch releases. It's impossible to keep up without spending a lot of money.
I wish you could clear the shovelware away by having the ability to flag games to not appear on your own eshop in the future. Every time I go to the eshop I get so overwhelmed by all the junk and nonsese I end up buying nothing. Even the offers page can take an age to get through.
A 'don't show me this game again' option would be great. You could also take away the games you already own.
This, unfortunately is going to be an increasing trend in digital game pricing. The publisher puts up a high price to begin with, which catches the desperate whales who can't wait. Then they reduce the price to the proper amount after a while to bring in everyone else, tricking them into thinking they're getting a good deal. Eventually they will go to the real sale price to convince the stragglers after a year or two.
For them it's a no brainer with a re-release of an old game. It's not a new game that needs to ride a hype wave and costs them nothing to sit on it for a bit longer, squeezing as much money as possible from their cash cow games. It's the same tactic as black Friday which is really just tricking people to fight over stuff that's priced at the normal price it would be if we just chilled out and made them competitively price stuff to satisfy us, not the other way around.
You have to remember that they can only take the price down over time, so it's better for them to start high then slowly lower the price, catching sales on the way down.
Whilst simplistic, the game was alright, bonkers but airtight. I'm glad a few more things to do are on the horizon. It'll give me a reason to go back and play a bit more.
I'll take anything Platinum has to offer, but man that protagonist is the worst. If he spewed that dude-bro garbage through the whole game I'd have to play with the sound off.
I think that maybe Microsoft tried to suggest to alter or even completely change the main character and being as stubborn as he is Kamiya told them where to stick it. I can only hope it was the other way around and it was Microsoft who was pushing for the annoying 'cool dude' with headphones thing and it was Kamiya who wanted to make the change. Either way I'm sure the gameplay would be class.
Having a blast with this and glad I saved the 7 day trial for this week. I don't think I'll keep the subscription as I don't really agree with locking parts of my games behind it, but a few more releases like this and I might be tempted to pay for a year.
I've learnt that I'm better at Tetris than I thought as I generally manage to finish in the top ten half the time and I've even come first once. My advice to do well is to focus on K.Os until you get one badge then switch to attackers after that to avoid too much attention from other players. It's a tactic that has served me quite well up to this point.
Awesome, I bought the game a while ago and liked what I played initially. I noticed and read about the performance issues and decided that I'd wait for the promised update. This weekend looks like the right time to dive in, nice.
@Aneira that's always going to be the biggest challenge. The only way they can make 1-ups mean anything is to give the creater the ability to make coherent worlds and then control of how many lives the player starts with.
This addition would change the whole game imo making exploration an important aspect instead of everybody just running to the end of levels to star and move on.
Such a great game, but it struggles to get the recognition it deserves. The game doesn't truly shine until the second play through which meant that a lot of people who played it didn't even get to see the best side of it. When the battle system clicks though... Oh boy, it's one of the best action games ever made.
What are the chances of locking Mario maker 2 behind the awful online and holding your levels to randsom so they will be deleted if you let you sub expire? Almost 100% I'd wager. They had better at least let you carry your levels and stars over from the original.
I genuinely think that they should have had virtual Amiibo that could be earned and collected in every game that uses them. I don't think it would have stopped people from buying the physical ones they wanted anyway. Locking features off to people who don't want them just makes the majority proportion of customers feel like they are missing out on something which is not a great feeling to instil in someone who has just bought you product.
I can't speak for everyone, but I know that I would have still picked up the Metroid, Bayonetta, Guardian and Dark Souls Amiibo no matter what and I'll do the same with the Solid Snake one too.
Hitman season one received as part of ps+ on PS4. It's a great game and this is the kind of thing Nintendo should be aiming to provide on its online service if it wants to draw more people in.
As for the switch I probably try and finally finish octopath traveler as I've only got a couple of chapters left. I'll be sad to finish it though, a wonderful little RPG.
This reminds me of working in casinos where they would bang on about spotting and reporting people with addiction problems or displaying signs of laundering, but if you actually did bring attention to these things they would ignore or even chastise you for doing so because those people are where they really make their money.
Nintendo have to be seen to be active on this front and are definitely better than most companies, but let's be honest, they make their money from getting kids hooked on their games and turning them into lifetime whales. Me included.
This overshooting tactic is a common business practice and one that feeds into the 'leading through fear' to push employees harder. It's a shame Nintendo has begun to adopt this approach similar to EA and other big corporate companies. It's not something Iwata would have resorted to or employed in his management practices. I researched his methods of positive enforcement and shouldering responsibility for all issues before taking on a management role, they were highly successful for me too.
With the new young developers coming through and the importance of them sticking around for the long term it could be a risky move to make them feel like they are a disappointment to the people at the top.
They're pushing their luck a bit now to the point where I'm beginning to lose faith in them.
