Today’s Nindies Nintendo Direct brought with it plenty of big announcements for fans of the indie scene, but it turns out that the showcase wasn’t even the end of today’s announcement plans. Not only was Hyper Light Drifter announced hours after the presentation, but it turns out that Nidhogg 2 will also be landing on the eShop sometime this year.
For those of you out of the loop, Nidhogg 2 is a sort of reverse tug-of-war game, in which each player’s goal is to use swords, knives, bows, and many more weapons to prevent the other player from running to the edge of the stage and getting eaten by the Nidhogg. It’s crazy good local multiplayer fun, and will be a perfect fit for the Switch when it launches sometime later this year. Here's the trailer from the Steam release:
What do you think? Will you be picking up Nidhogg 2? What’s your favorite local multiplayer game? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Those Detective Pikachu ads are really starting to annoy me...
Would like online multiplayer as well. I don’t have anyone to play with locally. #foreveralone
He's attacking the sword with his bare foot. Brilliant tactic.
I really can't get over that "Nick Park but more hideous" art style.
What a weird game.
But I kinda like it
Skip if more than 5 bucks.
@justin233 I never played these games on PC, but I do know for a fact they have both matchmaking and private online multiplayer, and it's been announced for the Switch as well.
Never really piqued my intereset before, but if it's not too pricey I may pick this up at some point.
@SmaggTheSmug Agreed. The original had a minimalist charm that they’ve entirely butchered here. A shame.
The pixel art from the first hide an macabre gruesome visible in this one. Really prefer the first one.

Me too, I wonder if the companies putting out these intrusive ads ever stop to think about activity putting people off buying their products. It's strange, everytime I see one of these ads on a site I instantly place negative connotations with what they are trying to sell. You should at least be able to switch it off after you've seen them once. Job's been done and everyone is happy.
You'd think this and Hyper Light Drifter would've been in the showcase as they would've been two of the bigger announcements and made the overall direct less disappointing.
I love Nidhogg but man the ugly artstyle is just UGGGH
I don't get it your goal is to get killed? It seems just plain stupid, not "crazy" in a fun way. But I like the art style.
I’ll be picking it up
I just hope they release the first one too at some point. That one had perfect streamlined simplicity.
I'm in the camp that would much rather see the original game come to the Switch, 2 is one of the very few games where the visuals turn me away... It just looks ugly, and I heard the expanded combat options aren't really good either. Maybe I'll pick this up if it's cheap, but I'd get the original in a heartbeat if it was being ported instead.
I think the art style for Nidhogg 2 is fun. However, I do think it would be great if the original were released as well. It has more of fluid and simple look to it.
That's gonna have to be a no for me, dawg.
