This is the 3rd or 4th time he’s had to clarify this. The media and fanboys on Twitter are constantly pestering developers on the progress of these games. Surely a statement made earlier in the year suffices.
I’ll get around to this one eventually, but my impression is that this series is in large part so beloved because it is Nintendo kinda making fun of its own characters and lore. Giving the artists and developers relatively free reign with character models seems like the way to go with Paper Mario.
In fact, injecting some of the Paper Mario humor into the next mainline Mario game would also be welcome. Bowser hasn’t been a menacing presence since Mario 64, so seeing him bumble around like a dork in Thousand Year Door was really funny. More of that Nintendo.
@mazzel There’s also “We Will Rock You”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Fat Bottomed Girls”, “Killer Queen”, “Another Bites the Dust”...
I guess if they were really all that great then hearing the songs for eternity wouldn’t matter, but after a while the cheesy opera thing they were going for becomes too saccharine and grating.
But I’m happy the band’s music brought so many people happiness.
I’d be nice to have more licensed music games after Rock Band “bit the dust”, but a lot of Queen’s music is so bloated and overplayed on the radio and in stadiums. Cool for those interested, but an evening of this game would drive me up the wall.
We can hope for some good games in the future, sure why not. But EA having exclusivity over the Star Wars license has already demonstrated to produce mediocre products, with less imagination and variety.
It’s like going to the same restaurant expecting their rubbery steak to be tender next time. After a while you just give up on the establishment.
Those are definitely Lego prices for sure. If I had a kid I’d buy it, but I’m not sure why so many people are into this. Like anything with Lego it requires an extreme amount of imagination for this to be fun.
Mario Bros. 3 is my pick for best game on the NES, but I think Link to the Past and Super Metroid are more revolutionary games than Super Mario World. SMW feels like an upgrade to the already excellent SM3, while Metroid and Zelda were a bit more ambitious for the franchise.
@gcunit I’ve been learning through “Byte of Python” and internet tutorials. If you are just starting out, it’s actually fine to use the Internet as resource. Python and JavaScript also have a lot in common, so once you know the basics of one language you can apply the principles to another.
A lot of it is just sitting at the computer and playing around with different variables and functions. It’s not so hard to get a hang of.
I went into the movie with an open mind, but I didn’t see much in it really. I think the central problem was this director Jeff Fowler , because the film was generically photographed and none of the actors in the film seemed to have anything to do except Carrey. Maybe the screenwriter/s were to blame for some of this as well, not sure.
Overall there was a lack of inspiration and spark behind this film. And yes, I do like family films.
@Kochambra Yeah I agree with you there. It doesn’t seem like Nolan’s characters exist beyond the pages of the screenplay, or outside of whatever philosophical point he is trying to get across. I suppose stiff characters are fine for genre films, but the realistic look he goes for give the movies an unnecessary feeling of self-importance. He’s a good technician, but a bit too rigid in his delivery.
I do think there is a lot of authenticity to his style though. Dunkirk definitely made you feel like you were a soldier on the beach, but I don’t think I’d ever watch it again.
Interesting... I thought Pikmin 4 was a real project. So real that I thought if Pikmin 4 were a bun in the oven, it would be a black piece of hardened coal by now. That’s how done I thought it was.
They definitely aren’t going to release 3 and 4 the same year so this will dash people’s hopes if true.
Metroid Prime... ehh. I’ll believe it when I see it. It seems like the Prime rumors have been circling for 2 years, and nothing of substance came from them.
Also Nintendo aren’t going to throw a bunch of remasters in Q4.
@nessisonett I agree with you on great games sometimes being janky. I enjoyed the Sinking City a fair bit from last year, and that game had bugs all over the place.
But Bethesda aren’t a small indie dev, and it’s frustrating playing the console versions of their games. They released Skyrim on Switch 6 years later with the same broken quest and floating NPCs they knew about for years. Fallout 4 on PS4 was also ridiculous and I don’t think they fixed since I last played it.
@Ryu_Niiyama If you read the article he does bring up some good points though. There are some valid criticisms that I think many who played the game could agree with.
NL just took exerts of hyperbole that, in the context of the article, seem like playful jabs rather than spiteful.
Whether he did it for views or not, he’s certainly entitled to this opinion. I think the game is one of the very best on Switch, but it’s not some great breakthrough in the life sim genre either.
@Andy_Witmyer I’m not sure what to think when I see comments like this, no offense. It’s like you sorta see the health concerns, but you want the economy to remain stable throughout...
Social distancing and testing have proven to cause the number of cases to decrease. The mortality rate stands at about 5%, much higher than the flu. So it’s very important to limit the number of people who get it.
As for the economy well... yeah it sucks for everyone, but there are more important matters at hand. If anything the lesson to take away from this, is how fragile that economic fault line really is.
A physical release with a map would make a nice one for the collection. The only way to go is handheld for this game, so it would’ve been nice if it had come sooner.
The PS4 and Xbox getting a physical release but not the Switch is a bit strange.
@ShadowSmile Not sure. Why does your gun run out of bullets in an FPS? Why do you need to start the level over if you fall off the ledge in Mario?
You can debate the merits of one game’s durability system over another’s, but as a game system I think it’s perfectly sound. It requires that you gather resources and think ahead.
The tools showing signs of wear and tear is an idea, but how do you do that with an item as small as a slingshot? But this is a relatively small thing in the game.
If you disperse DIY benches around your island, then it’s not bad at all. And the materials are common for the standard tools.
Hmm. I don’t understand how RE4 supposedly controls bad. If you change aiming your gun to the left control stick, then you’re basically playing the game the way it was intended on the GC.
The tank controls have a satisfying “snap” to them and once you get used to it, all movement and aiming have a tremendous amount of accuracy. It’s still the best controlling game in the series for me.
@Wavey84 Yeah the gameplay of Silent Hill 1 & 2 is clunky as ever. Too bad the talent at Konami left long ago, because a remake of those games would be awesome. In their current state, they should just focus on remastering their classics for newer consoles.
@AnnoyingFrenzy I like Wesker as the guy calling the shots in the background, but in RE5 he felt like a less fun and more plain villain than the oddballs of RE4. Maybe I’d have a different opinion now though.
RE7 is a crazy and ridiculous premise, but I think it shocked and unsettled me more than any other RE game. A lot of the shocks did feel a bit cheap(trying too hard to overwhelm you), but the performance capture is quite good and there is a sense of unpredictability to it. The found footage segments (although done a million times in movies) were effective in making the experience feel more realistic and tangible. So it is more scary than the other games for me, but not as replayable.
@Wavey84 I think I used to have that opinion, but what Resident Evil games are genuinely scary other than 1 (creepy mansion) and 7? They are better at building tension than the psychological dread of something like Silent Hill or Amnesia.
Most of the time these games feel like B- movies with ridiculous villains and impossibly good looking heroes.
Leon and Salazar leave an impression on you because of their ridiculous codec conversations in RE4. So although I agree RE5 wasn’t up to par (they just made Wesker into a “Agent Smith” knockoff), the ridiculousness paid off in RE4.
The developer’s comment doesn’t make sense because something can be both subversive and “art”. Sounds like he’s just trying to justify making a bland, boring game.
I was happy to hear a rumor that Capcom were working on Resident Evil 8. This... not so much.
Resident Evil 4 might just be the finest third person action game ever made. The tank controls are actually really great and everything still feels basically perfect. Ashley’s AI is limited but it’s simple enough to command her movement around the map or just hide her somewhere.
So I’m not seeing anything they could really improve other than the visuals, which is not justifation enough for a full remake.
@NoTinderLife That is in many ways true. Although it presents an “idealized” vision of work and the economy because money is easy to come by. So in that sense it is escapism.
Animal Crossing: Textile Factory would be a much more realistic and depressing experience 😂. You’d be working 10 hour shifts making a 100 Bells daily, then Tom Nook fires you and replaces the factory with machines. So you’d be doing DIY projects more out of desperation then anything else.
@nessisonett I’m happy these games are going portable, but you’re right about price being a factor. Right now you can play Doom, 3 Wolfenstein games, the Metro Remasters, Xcom 2, the Borderlands games, etc.. with a PS Now sub.

Not just fetch quest obviously. They could be put on the bulletin board next to the community center and be given a time limit (1 or 2 days to accept and complete them).

This is one thing that’s a bit disappointing with AC:NH. In BOTW and Mario Odyssey the toy box world was designed in a way so if you think “I’d like to do that” the game rewards that curiousity.
Fantastic game as is, these are just things that’ll make the game more interesting later on.
