It's safe to say that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has gone down rather well with fans of the series and new players alike. Social media has been absolutely swamped posts as people get busy on their deserted islands, filling their Critterpedias with bugs and fish, designing their own clothes, remodelling their islands and generally having a good old time. The game has crossed into the mainstream media in a way that few games do, with non-gamers taking notice and asking what all this joyous, colourful nonsense is all about.
And with the way things are going for many people around the world at this difficult time, we can't think of a video game better suited to calming everyone down and reminding us that everything will be all right in the end. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an absolutely outstanding video game.
It's not perfect, though - what video game is? The question of how Nintendo can improve Animal Crossing has been fluttering through our minds like a common bluebottle over the past few days. The Switch entry has streamlined so many things about the Animal Crossing experience, but there are still a few areas we wouldn't mind seeing refined in an update.
Fortunately, the ideas we've come up with are exactly the sort of things you could change with a patch. The base game is top-notch; we're just nitpicking with these. Still, after collectively spending many, many hours with the game, here are a few suggestions for improvements we'd like to see in the future.
Batch item crafting
Yes, we're looking at you manila clams. Anybody who spent the last days of March hunting the elusive Golden Trout or Stringfish will know the pain of crafting endless individual items. Yes, you can hammer 'A' to bosh out fish bait faster, but you're likely to get an RSI if you do 30 in-a-row like we did. Multiple times.
The option to simply select the item and adjust the quantity you'd like to craft would be a lifesaver, or more accurately, a thumb-saver. We'd be happy with a 30-second montage as we watched our character hammer away, feverishly wiping sweat from their brow before presenting 30 finished fish baits.
Regardless, the ability to craft multiple items in one go would be very gratefully received.
Diamond Tools
It seems that Golden Tools are simply shiny, more durable versions of the normal tools in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In previous games the hallow golden versions of your toolset were noticeably 'better' than their common counterparts--the bug net was bigger, the slingshot fired three pellets, etc--but this time they appear to offer no improvements whatsoever. What's more, they break!
The idea of Golden Tools has always been a little strange considering by the time you've got them, you've very likely already completed every task they are useful for (bred all the flowers, caught all the bugs and fish, etc). And now that Golden Tools break like any other, they're... well, they're kind of useless. What we need is another tier of tool, the Diamond Tools. They wouldn't break, they'd function better, they'd be perfect.
For all we know these already exist in the game, or Nintendo has plans to release something similar down the line. We know it's bad form to blame your tools (bad workmen, and all that), but what we'd give for a diamond fishing rod!
Inventory sorting options
Inside your house you're able to open up your Storage by pressing right on the D-pad and sort the items within Alphabetically or by Time or Type. When you're out and about, though, you can only sort your inventory (on the 'X' button) by selecting an item, holding 'A' and dragging it manually. Why not add the same sort function from Storage to the items on our person, too?
Optional touchscreen support for menus and Custom Designs
Nintendo is inconsistent when it comes to using the touchscreen as an optional input for first-party games. Some games (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, for example) allow you to use the touchscreen for menus, and we'd like to see this applied to Animal Crossing, too. It's already available for typing (press the 'R' button), but we can't see any reason why it shouldn't also be an option for menu navigation, adjusting your house layout and creating Custom Designs. It might not be precise enough for the latter, but it's odd that it's not included as an alternative input method.
Going even further, it's arguable that an additional touch-only control scheme would be a great accessibility option. It worked beautifully for Animal Crossing: Wild World, and beyond the imprecision of our finger or the Switch stylus compared to the Nintendo DS stylus, we can't think of an obvious barrier to implementing optional touch controls.
Improved quick tools (map a tool to a D-pad direction)
The quick Ring Tool is very useful for avoiding frustrating moments when you're cycling through all your tools looking for the right one. However, rather than cycling through everything we're carrying, we'd prefer the option to map specific tools to the left, right and down buttons on the D-pad. That way we could access our most used tools instantly. Want to put them away? Hit the button again. Simple!
https://twitter.com/solidquartz/status/1242652432594698240?s=20
It's a little thing, but switching between the pole, the ladder and our other tools is a tad sluggish, even using the Ring Tool, and especially in the early game when your island lacks bridges and inclines and you have to constantly whip your vaulting pole out.
Snappier UI
Animal Crossing is a sedate life sim promoting the virtues slow living, and we love that. However, we wouldn't mind a little more alacrity in its menus. It's not terrible by any means, we just feel transitions could be snappier. We've places to be, fish to catch, people to see!
Speed up online travel time
The first time we visited another person's island we absolutely loved the seaplane flyover and Wilbur's speech over the intercom giving local time and weather. It's great if you're one person heading to another's island. However, with multiple online visitors having to watch every single flyover when a new person arrives, that same sequence soon becomes interminable.
If you just visit a friend or two, it's probably not a big issue for you. If you're inviting folks over for an island party, though, best set 20 minutes aside while everyone flies in. We'd love to see travel time when playing online get a speed boost.
Blathers repetition reduction
Let's preface this suggestion with the fact that we love Blathers. The knowledgeable night owl who looks after the museum is one of our favourite characters, and while he's known for going on a bit, we think he's fabulous. More often than not we listen rapturously to his factoids about the bugs, fish and fossils we bring him.
'Going on a bit' and 'blatantly repeating yourself' are two different things, though, and while we should be used to it from past games, Blathers' repeated dialogue can start to grate. This applies to any character tending an amenity, although it doesn't seem such an issue with the others - perhaps because we speak to him (to assess fossils, usually) more often. We'd love him to have some more variation to his repertoire of phrases.
There are ways to politely circumvent some of Blathers' blathering by donating items or assess fossils in bulk, but a some alternate dialogue in this introduction speech wouldn't go amiss.
The ability to change the island Resident Representative
This is an issue that many families with a single Switch will have encountered. For whatever reason, Nintendo took the 'One Switch, One Island' route with New Horizons. However, there's another design choice which makes even less sense to us - you cannot swap your island's Resident Representative.
Progress and projects are tied to just one person in New Horizons (the 'Mayor' of the game, if you will) and others aren't able to dictate projects or manage the island in the same way. This is fine as long as the primary player--the person who named the island and started the game--is still actively playing it. Should that player lose interest or not be available, however, anyone else living in the island is stuck (from a progression perspective). Being able to change the Resident Rep would solve this problem.
This is an issue that many players will never encounter or even have to consider, but for the people (primarily families) this affects, the ability to switch your island's Resident Representative would be incredibly useful.
What do you think of these suggestions for improvements to Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Let us know by choosing the ones you think would be most welcome in our poll below, and be sure to share any other suggestions in the comments section.

None of this, I just want Gyroids back! >:c
Two things I miss from New Leaf. 1) Fortune cookies containing Nintendo items. 2) Happy Home Showcase; I miss having more options for purchasing furniture.
I remembered being able to squeeze through tighter gaps in Happy Home Designer, yet we can't do that in New Horizons?
I can't sit on my sofa as it's too close to the table. But any further away and it'll look lame.
This isn't even my highest of priorities but it was all I could think of in this very moment.
EDIT: Oh, settings. I want to be able to change the volume of the music.
I try constantly to rotate the landscape with the right analog stick ala the best game I played in the last 20 years, Dragon Quest X1 S
Doom slayer outfit please
@Joe-b I also do that. A free camera would be nice but maybe it would spoil the game somehow
Swimming, or maybe give us gyroids back
All the things you said plus:
Reduced repetition overall, like when you catch a fish you got before. I don't need the same pun 100 times a day.
The 'random' islands need more variety. I got to at least 2 a day and they almost always have the same flowers and fruit. A lot of them look the same too.
Better durability for items. I get through 4 axes getting wood from my island each day. It makes everything a massive chore.
No. More. Wasps.
I’d like the walking controls to be better tbh, the stick just feels difficult to control.
@sandman89 I'd love to try it...that would be great. Not sure about ruining it but you could be right...
The honeymoon period is over it seems the
Brewster. that's all... well, with the coffee shop that is.
@Incarna The ability to get rid of villagers I don't want within a day
I don't mind a week. I will be super happy if they leave if I ignore them for a week or complain to Isabelle for the whole week and she evict them.
Camera rotation would be nice too. And increase animal population.
Minigames! New Leaf let me visit a small island with my wife. This one can't.
you've forgotten something important I think !!!
the ability to craft from the items in the storage of your house !!!!
More house rooms, upgrades and customization and bigger islands
I was kinda surprised that I could only use the left stick with the tool ring. It'd make sense to let me use the right stick since that's on the opposite hand from the tool ring button. You can't change the camera while in the tool ring anyway and that'd make it even faster to use.
They could even take that to the next level and make it so holding the tool ring button keeps the window open, and releasing the button equips the selected tool and closes the window so I don't have to push button, pick item, then push another button to equip.
Return Amiibo support for Splatoon, Legend of Zelda and add more support like from the Mario series or even Shovel Knight.
I need to be able to preview the wallpapers and floors in the store like I used to be able. They're too small to distguish whether they're worth buying. And, of course, unbreakable gold tools. I mean, c'mon already.
The ability to play NES or SNES games in some sort of “Arcade” furniture or in the in game “Switch”?
More Nintendo I.P. Related clothing, items and furniture?
Do you think it is possible to implement any of these? I haven't played the previous games so I don't know if and how they changed. Craft each item individually is annoying
Batch item crafting would be amazing, especially for those looking to complete those Nook Miles tasks. They both ask for an insane amount of crafted items (furniture or tools) and it takes forever to do them individually. Not to mention how tedious it is to make fish bait, to the point I'd rather just buy it in online communities.
In fact, I have no idea why this isn't a thing already.
All of the above, none are really major issues by themselves but circumstances and the cumulative effect can have quite detrimental consequences on your enjoyment of the game. I have really enjoyed the game but there are a few annoyances creeping in, such as tools breaking or having to turn each clam individually into bait
Similar to batch item crafting, but if I have the materials to make a flimsy rod and also an iron nugget, then just let me make a regular fishing rod without having to make the flimsy one first.
I definitely agree that batch crafting should at least be an option, at least if you get a 'gold' crafting bench or whatever. Crafting from storage would also be great. It's too bad that nobody seems to care about changing island reps though, that's a huge oversight.
My wife started the game, but she very casual about her playtime, so now I have to juggle playing her to actually advance the island, and playing me to just play. Not fun.
Batch item crafting, definitely. Also, the ability to craft upgraded items directly instead of having to craft a lower tier item and then upgrade it.
Oh, and more varied mystery islands! You waste 2000 Nook Miles only to visit what is essentially a smaller version of your own island? Boring!
Let me flip the joystick axis for controlling camera rotation inside the house. It's the opposite of what I intuitively expect, and it messes me up... every... single... time.
You already have a shortcut to the map through the Nook Phone, so there's need to put it in the tool wheel.
Menu speed is perfect and inventory management is fine. This is how it's always been in Animal Crossing. Don't change just for the sake of change.
I think a multiplayer update is definitely needed in the future eventually. There’s no mini games like in new leaf, batch crafting should’ve been in from the start but it’s ok. The fact that gold tools break in this game is seriously upsetting, they should make diamond or something that doesn’t that’s extremely difficult to obtain. And another very important thing that’s so annoying is the fact that it’s so damn hard to kick a villager out. Idk why they made it like that but yah.
Batch crafting. Better selection of random islands so Nook Miles don't feel wasted trip after trip after trip. Evicting residents should be done in a week.
I love the game but there is room for improvement. We should be able to get other fruit, flowers etc without going online.
How about making it so we can visit those on our friends list without going thru convolutions. Why have people as friends if you can't just visit?
@popey1980 "The honeymoon period is over it seems"
Nah, I'm still loving the game. I would just like to see some quality of life improvements, but if they don't happen, I will still love the game. It's everything I want in Animal Crossing.
How about crafting all Manilla Clams into Fish Bait at the same time? Or how about getting 3 Fish Bait per clam.
Make it optional for online players to see the arrival and departure cinematic when traveling to friend's islands. When someone has 10 people join, it takes like 20 minutes to get everyone in
Batch item crafting by a large margin. Next up, bring back Town Ordinances!!!! For the love of god..... some of us are parents / day workers and don’t get time to play until 10-11pm.... store is closed and half the residents are asleep by then. Why the hell they removed this is beyond me.
(Yes I’m aware I coulda chose Southern Hemisphere and had reverse times and spawns, that still doesn’t solve the issues truly, just makes Joan and the store easier to access, not any night time stuff....)
Less glitches, more stability, touch screen support when creating clothing/decor designs. Voice/text chat. UNBREAKABLE tools...
SNES/GBA games; I remember when they had NES games in the Gamecube AC.
Seeing as some folks who play a lot have already reached the end of the current infrastructure content, and those who play casually will sooner rather than later reach that point, I would hope they add more stores and facilities/ facilities upgrades to the island (they probably are, but just stating for the record that an Able Sisters upgrade to match each nooklings one would be a nice touch).
Ditto on the crafting in your house pulls from your storage with batch crafting.
In other notes, a "critterpedia" section for other museum collectibles like fossils would be nice
I’d like a simpler online visiting system. Rather than having to open my gates, I’d like to set friends that can drop in when they want. Not sure why it’s such a huge production everytime I want a visitor.
Make the trees transparent when I'm fishing so the trees don't block the shadow of the fish.
I recently got the tailor and I have to say - a better batch/multi-buy option would be nice.
Don't get me wrong, the fitting room is a convenient step up, but if you aren't planning on wearing it out and want to buy more than one of a single category or some conflicting items, you have to exit and re-enter for every set. Since so many items are ONLY in the closet, it gets extra irritating when all the things left you want are in the same category. In and out with the same animation and text, buying one thing at a time...it starts to grate a bit when you're a collector or just like lots of clothes.
Also, you know how the crafting screen shows if you've made an item at least once and if you have one on-hand or in storage? I'd like an optional filter like that in the storage, specifically for things that can and can't be ordered from the catalog. There are way more items and clothing than can fit in the storage, and checking which can't be easily ordered if you want it later (and should therefore be held on to) is kinda clunky.
Tortimor's Island or an equivalent multiplayer minigame island
An assistive grid when placing items outdoors, planting etc
I realize all my choices has to do with time consume. Otherwise I'd want more neighbours, preferbly giraffes and mooses, and new personality types.
The ability to place objects in multiplayer, and for there to not be a massive loading screen that stops everything when someone enters your town. Also I'd like to see a city hub or something added.
I had full intentions of sharing a copy with a friend once social distancing isn't a factor. But this "Island Representative" crap completely turns me off from the game. The amount of limitations made on players who can't even experience the game's largest selling points of customization really buries the lead on what makes Animal Crossing fun.
Would love minigames (like from new leaf, Amiibo festival, etc) to play with other villagers, friends, and even co-op.
Also have the ability to get everyone to go to different nook miles island would be fun to see! (Cool idea if the more people going, the bigger the island gets)
Batch crafting would save time. Mutli- seasonal islands. Some in spring, fall, summer, winter... Just to mix it up a bit.
Break-indicator would be awesome. Maybe have the item change a bit (cracks on rods, axes, nets, etc) to show only a few times left before breaking.
Mutli-select items to out in storage, to buy clothes/ items at shops, and ATM.
All these would improve the gameplay! But this game is AMAZING still, and I just barely got the Able shop a few days ago!
option for separate islands on the same switch to avoid family infighting. or disclose this issue on the front packaging.
eliminate the weird starting and stopping of multiplayer (eg when someone is coming to my island I can’t do anything).
batch crafting and purchase. yes, please.
fix the RNG (for the stringfish, etc)
oh and make input more forgiving.. so many times I try to enter a door and just slightly miss or try to spread fish bait and get an error. devs should read this thread by Celeste devs https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/fhzw5f/developer_of_celeste_shares_some_cool_gamefeel/
none of those
give me more villagers & rare stuff a bit more common
The camera is atrocious. I think a workaround while still keeping the roller aesthetic would be a 3rd camera angle that is directly top down. It switches to this camera already when you build a fence behind a building. Should just be a standard angle. The mystery islands need to be better, I’ve gone to like two interesting ones, and the rest are just copies of my own island. I still haven’t seen anything other than the three flowers I already get on my own island, luckily I’ve gotten a few online. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but you should be able to get all your other flowers and fruits from repeat island trips. Batch crafting for sure, crafting from storage when you craft at home, I also find the drop rates of the sky egg and the water egg are just too high. I’m out here trying to make these bells and all I’m doing is getting distracted by balloons and fishing up goddamn eggs.
@Grandiajet I’ve got a big tip for wasps: always shake the tree from the front and you’ll always be facing them when they come out, quick swipe of the net once your surprise animation finishes. If you don’t have your net equipped, open your inventory and not your key ring and you’ll stun them while
you equip through inventory.
Hourly music.
I want a soccer ball to use with my goals. Also I need a cat for all my cat stuff. Other pets would be cool also.
@Ladasta there is a soccer ball but I dunno if you can kick it, I’ve never actually tried.
@DonSerrot
This exactly! I was really confused when I used the tool ring the first time since in other games it usually works the way you describe. I'm used to it now, but it could indeed be even quicker to use.
BULK CRAFTING!!!
Thats all I want
Firing your kid as island representative could negatively affect their self-esteem. I would work with them and help them grow into the role.
@Ladasta
You're right. I too need a cat to go with the bed and tree I have. They can even make me craft a catbox.
out of these diamond tools is my #1 , I am so tired of the tools breaking at this point. it totally halts the flow of gameplay and the novelty has worn off. absolutely criminal the golden tools break in this one !
besides these I really just want to see some of the classic characters and features return. I miss tortimer, pelly, phyllis , crazy redd, rover, copper and booker, katrina, brewster, GRACIE . even if they have a replacement, give them something new to do !
bring back some of the nice incentives the old games had to accomplish different things . the lighthouse and windmill and fountain are all diy things now, but how about something to really work towards to feel accomplished ? what happened to the bank rewards you used to get for having a certain amount of bells in your savings? (like the box of tissues, piggy bank, ABD machine for your house etc)
our house upgrades should be on par , if not better than new leaf - not less.
I already mentioned brewster and crazy redd, but yea where is the art collection for the museum? where's the cafe? these are series staples at this point and their absence is really bizarre.
Unless there is some use for it later down the line, I'd love to have the option to map the tool wheel to L, as then your thumb would stay on the stick, and would feel a lot snappier.
What pretty much everyone else has said. Also, maybe silhouettes for when you are deep in trees / behind a building?
Batch item crafting my god please yes! Not just for bait, but also for crafting a batch of “hot items”
Also, would love to have another line in the inventory.
Other than those (and the big honking issue of having a shared island where you can't cloud-save, transfer save data to different consoles, and people playing on different accounts on your console experience a gimped version of the game where they can't make any progress, but that's baked into the core design of the game itself and can't be altered), I'm pretty happy with New Horizons.
A lot of these things should have been in the game day 1. That’s why it’s not a 10. I’ve only played New Leaf but it seems the dialogue is the same or similar. It’s ridiculous to listen to Blathers say the same thing over and over. You have to go in and out of dialogue boxes just to get something done.
Crafting bait is ridiculous.
User interface is just way out of date. The idea is to have a relaxing game. But it’s not relaxing when you are annoyed as hell.
I’m not sure why Nintendo thinks breaking tools is fun. I’ve had one shovel my whole adult life. It’s ok if things break in the early parts of the game. But after that, it’s just annoying and not fun.
I would like my cedar trees to stop glitching. Also the golden tools breaking is really not cool. The regular tools breaking already annoys the hell out of me, but the fact that I will never escape that? Ridiculous.
I'd like to see every color variation for an object be available as customization. It's stupid that they aren't, especially with the furniture bought with Nook Miles.
Those were good ideas. I want a more robust couch coop mode. I doubt it will happen but remove the whole leader thing and let everyone do their own thing. Maybe split screen.
I want the the ability to visit the original Animal Crossing.
Want to take that train again.
Better couch multiplayer. The fact that the follower's pickups go to recycle is dumb. Also no inventory access or the tool select circle, I've missed so many bugs hitting X over and over to get my tool.
Didn’t vote cause you forgot to add Crazy Redd & his famous and forgery art to the list lol.
Dynamic camera with analog stick. Sometimes you can't see behind objects, i dunno why anno 2020 nintendo did not thought of this?
A protection mode for your stuff, if you have a kid that sell all your stuff, like mine, who sold my wifes fenches and flowers lol.
The games ui gets quit boring after some time.
Also the islands are boring i miss caves, diverse music, thunderstorms. You get the point.
For the rest its a sweet game, my wife and kid are enjoying it, but it holds ME back to start the game.
Its just to blend.
@NoNoseNosferatu "SNES console games; I remember when they had NES games in the Gamecube AC."
Never going to happen because 1) Nintendo is using those games to entice people to buy the online subscription; and 2) the developers of the original Animal Crossing regret putting those games in because they realized people started ignoring the main game and just used it as an NES emulator.
I want Multiple Islands.
Just take a look Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Before update, Save file = 1.
After update, added into 3 Save files.
I don't want to be forced by being alone all the time by having 1 island only as the game itself has been created from being lonely by the creator of Animal Crossing.
We are not alone anymore so better it has 3 Save files and larger amount of villager's capacity from 10 to 20 (at least) until 30 (MySims Wii / PC can hold until 30 Townie Sims) , so no excuses.
@PALversusNTSC "Also the islands are boring i miss caves, diverse music, thunderstorms. You get the point."
Don't know about caves, but there are thunderstorms and hourly music in the game (the latter after you upgrade resident services).
Batch crafting is a must. I made 325 bait in one day...that wasn’t fun. I would also like fortune cookies for special Nintendo items like in new leaf, and more fruits like mangos or bananas or lychees (and potentially more flowers, but I don’t want that as much as I’m fairly content with the amount of flowers we already have).
Mainly, I’d like an in-game N64 so I can play Pilotwings and Wave Race
For the Online Players custom designs at the Able Sister's shop. I want to be able to see a catalog of designs to search through instead of looking up peoples by their ID.
Definitely adjust the ratio of Nook Miles islands that yield rare fruit/flowers; finding yet another island full of apple trees feels like such a waste of time that I rarely bother to stay for long at all.
As an aside, what's the purpose of that little pier on one side of your island? Can you swim during the warmer months if you have swim trunks like you could in New Leaf?
They need to add an inventory update of some sort.
As much content as this game already has, I can't help but want the experience to expand and continue. I'm fast running out of items to spend my Nook Miles points on because they're always the same (aside from the types of fences that rotate each time).
Also, those stairs leading up to nowhere in the Museum are a bit conspicuous, especially when previous ACs allowed us to collect art and paintings to fill a section with (although I always found that to be by far the most difficult and expensive challenge to do). Wouldn't surprise me to see the Museum expanded in some way further down the line.
If a game was ever made that would lend itself to expansions and/or DLC, it's this one.
Remove Tt abuse. That's just me.
@Mountain_Man party pooper.
I'm hoping more mid to late game content is added in updates. The core Animal Crossing gameplay is the best it's ever been. But compared to New Leaf, there's a lot fewer daily things to do, a lot fewer minigames, a lot fewer late game projects, a lot fewer shops, fewer traveling villagers, and less to do in multiplayer. I'm not complaining exactly: I'm still early on after all. But I am hoping they add more side content and long term projects so it's still fun in a year: I've just been playing the game normally and I made it through the get 3 stars quest today.
I'd like to see a cafe. I'd like to see a late game shop or two, like a Gracie Grace shop. I'd like to see more late game things to spend Nook Miles on, maybe mini games or the Nintendo furniture. But I'm not making a checklist of things I need to see: the thing I want is side content and projects like New Leaf had that help add longevity to the game, whether that's returning ideas or new ones. New Leaf is still a game I can pull up years later and find content I haven't seen. I'd like New Horizons updates to make the game that and more.
I just want Kapp'n. Don't care what he does, as long as he gets to belt out manly wisdom and sing songs about cucumbers.
Batch crafting by a long mile. Wasnt very fun to have to sit and individually build over 100 wood fences to sell to the Nooks. Also drop the puns on repeated fish and bug catching and maybe a dot in the water where your lure will land. Diamond tools would be a nice touch. If golds break then i will just sell all my gold ive found instead of waiting to build tools out of them.
A few more rocks wouldnt go a miss either.
Batch item crafting is the only thing that I’d want.
Unbreakable tools, batch crafting and less repetition of text for everything you interact with. They have a real knack for waiting time in general and need to streamline things.
Makes me want to go back to Rune Factory 4.
5th, 6th and 7th row for pocket items, hehheh.
I'd like Tortimor style TOURS back please...
... and quicker transitions going into your house and especially from room to room.
Don’t care about durability or retired characters, but crafting from storage would be amazing. Batch crafting would be good, but I get a serious since of accomplishment after grinding out some crafts🤷🏻♂️
Um... GYROIDS! HELLO?
Actual amiibo support - scanned 6 AC amiibo toys today, none would come to the campsite
Motion controls for tools - they Forced it on us for POKÉMON Let's Go, why not make it a tool option here?
Mii support - why can't my Mii be in this game, it's on the Switch. At least make the character creator a creator, it looks absolutely nothing like me, it's an embarrassment in 2020.
A subterranean kingdom of worm people.
If you're crafting in your house, you should be able to access items directly from your storage, rather than having to load the materials into your pockets.
I'd rather have more buildings and content. Where is Re-Tail? What about Digby, and Lottie, Resetti, Gracie, Shrunk, Wendell, Rover, Blanca and Kapp'n? They could add in more things to get on your island.
Two big things: better USB keyboard support and support for longer messages online. 20-25 characters a message is barely enough for Japanese, and definitely not enough for English. Also, I can't just start typing on the keyboard like we could with City Folk. In letters, there's no way to move up and down lines with a keyboard either, so you have a really screwy experience trying to use both the controller and a keyboard.
I'd also like support for Japanese language on the keyboard switcher. I speak English and some Japanese, so it kind of sucks that I can't type with it in-game.
@Susurrus
Just curious about your avatar.
Did you use DROP OUT banner from Dance Dance Revolution SOLO as your avatar ? 😀
These are good ideas but:
Why can't we use design mode outside? That's something I'd like mechanically.
Proper customization for all items with different looks. And touchscreen functionality for designs and inventory organization.
All of the above. But campfire cooking like botw and also boating for fishing..
Building a house on my friend's island
Doomguy/slayer as a potential villager
@Anti-Matter Sure did!
@Dm9982 Southern Hemisphere doesn’t reverse the time, just the seasons. To reverse the time you need to change your system clock entirely.
@idrawrobots The hourly music is there, it gets unlocked when you upgrade resident services.
Where’s the Battle Royale option?
Being able to build without taking the required items out of storage, maybe as long as you are in the house and at a bench?
Stop Blathers blathering (this was a pain in New Leaf and I'm stunned there's still no zip-it or express option)
Quick set of tools
Inventory sorting
Something not on the list is better camera, notably that in New Leaf you could lower it to a point that trees or buildings obscuring your view would vanish so you can pick up items behind them. In New Horizons, it can be annoying to pick up weeds or flowers instead of wood from a tree, especially if you're pockets are full and you need to go through the process of swap, drop or bury it.
All of the above
@ColdFlamesBurn Agreed! You should be able to use resources that are in the house storage when you're crafting inside the house.
Also, changing your clothes with a wardrobe should also show clothing items that are placed visible in the house.
I want to be able to place carpets outside, and also items that go on the wall. There should be some kind of a wall item that you could set up outside and hang wall items from those, or hang them on trees or cliff sides.
Also, gimme gyroids.
I want all the special characters like redd, gracie, and katrina back.
@ShadJV very glad I did not do that then.... smh. And yeah I could mess with the clock, debated it. But, while I’m frustrated at time frames, adjusting the clock takes some of the fun away.... time travelled in past AC games.
I’d really like to see the Sanrio animals added in from the cards and also the Amiibo ones from Zelda, Splatoon and Monster Hunter.
I want a swimsuit! I loved swimming/diving in New Leaf and wish it was an option in NH as well.
The ability to sell multiple items to the Nook boys without having to start a new conversation bubble for each different item.
Oh, and ability to make a small fishing boat to use at the end of the board based pier (not the airport one) WHILE actually being to look 360 to appreciate the view...why not being able to look out over the ocean must of spawned from a developer that has never been vaca to a beach.
I want my Mii Mask!!
Please bring back the Mii Mask!!
Froggy Chair, please and thank you.
@muscpt select all items you want to sell with A before confirming, there’s no need to start a new conversation for each one.
-switch island representative is a must
-batch item storage
-not getting stopped everytime a new visitor come to your island via dodo code.
Just want features from New Leaf and I'm set. Hoping on The Roost and gyroids in the next update, along with the return of Leif's store.
Forgot to mention this in my previous comment: bug and fish descriptions in the museum like in new leaf (and maybe previous AC games, I’d only played new leaf and some of the spin off games before NH, so I don’t really know)
1. i would like to see more shops or other special NPCs
2. the option to craft more then 1 thing at a time
3. GYROIDS
4. new Villagers, perhaps?
Animal Crossing reflects the real world's holidays and seasons and runs in real-time. So why don't they add a Corona Update to reflect the real world?
The game can teach kids (and adults) about social distancing by quarantine all visitors to your island and shutting down Tom Nook's stores. Isolating all villagers and you will have an AC: Happy Home Designer game on Switch.
(And stop hoarding!)
These are all great suggestions!
Bigger updates could include some NPC activities. Bug collecting and activities that require partnering up. Your bonds could grow and open up rewards and dialogue options for completing them. Not just fetch quest obviously. They could be put on the bulletin board next to the community center and be given a time limit (1 or 2 days to accept and complete them).
Also increasing the interaction with craftable items would be cool. Example: Why can I craft a rocking chair but not rock back forth?
This is one thing that’s a bit disappointing with AC:NH. In BOTW and Mario Odyssey the toy box world was designed in a way so if you think “I’d like to do that” the game rewards that curiousity.
Fantastic game as is, these are just things that’ll make the game more interesting later on.
@Dm9982 oh I wasn’t suggesting it. I like it being real time, it’s less confusing for me. I do have friends who have picked Southern Hemisphere so they could get the fall bugs and fish and then visit their friends for the spring ones, making it possible to finish the museum legit within 6 months. But hemispheres don’t affect time zones so it’s still night in my town when it’s night in theirs. 😅
I want the dream suite to return. It was fun visiting other people’s islands! Especially from my favorite YouTubers!
Playable nes, snes, and arcade cabinets. Would love to invite friends over to play Dr. Mario
@Flammy I feel ya. My daughter started playing first and she has no desire to do the objectives. I played in her profile a bit to progress somewhat but eventually lost all motivation to play the game. Haven’t played in a week. She still hasn’t built the furniture for the people who wanna move in. It’s a shame. I loved the GameCube version and was looking forward to this on. Now I really don’t care.
Batch item crafting for sure. When you're going fishing and you need to process 20 manila clams into bait... Ugh.
Tool breaking is annoying in a game not focused on survival. In games like BotW or Don't Starve tool breaking adds to the tension and promotes more risky play (to search for materials). In Animal Crossing it feels like they added it because other games do it too. All it does is wastes time on getting sticks and wastes iron on tools.
Swapping resident representative is not an issue for me, but with the one island per console limit (which shouldn't have been there in the first place) it's a must.
I agree with almost all of these, both in the article and in the comments. One thing I’d like to add is, they need to just send out one nice big fat update with all the holidays and perks, and let us just enjoy the game how WE want to play and not on their terms.
Need more votes for the island rep things (even if it doesn't affect you personally) as it's the only game breaker in the list.
@commentlife Thanks for the tips. I just can't seem to catch them. I gave up last week and just carry some medicine with me everywhere.
oh!
and bring back the non-animal crossing amiibo villagers
like the Callie & Marie squirrels
personally, more shops/facilities and increase the amount of bridges and inclines. i need more than 8 of each to complete my layout
Definitely hoping that we get unbreakable (or nearly unbreakable) tools down the line along with batch crafting or simply crafting without the character showing us what they crafted after we craft it once.
I would like to be able to use crafting materials that are in my storage. it is a pain to go to my storage grab the stuff, then use some of it and then put it back. sometimes I don't have enough space to make all the stuff I want because I have all of crafting materials in my inventory.
Less eggs, please.
Agree with all of the above, although I'd like to see them walk back the decision to have one island per Switch. One island per profile would be preferable, along with a way to easily visit other islands on the system. No, I don't think design decisions should be immune to criticism, and I do think it was a rather poor decision. Yes, I realize previous games had similar limitations.
How about being able to access your stored crafting items through your workbench? That would be great! But definitely the crafting in batches!
@Myox77 cool beans! Thanks! Never dawned on me to multi select
Coffee shop!! Please!!
I would love to see options for when playing multiplayer (on 1 switch with other residents ) to be able to complete your individual tasks for nook miles even if you aren’t “first player “ and be able to access your pockets (instead of things going to the recycling bin).
How about making the island tune twice as long or add sharps and flats.
I'll preface this by saying this is one of the greatest sandbox games I have played, and I am absolutely loving it. But please, NO MORE EGGS. Let me wear a bunny costume if I want to hunt eggs, and when I take it off, I can get back to fishing actual fish.
I like the idea of better non breakable tools.
The ability to switch mayor's for family members. For sure. But how about having the other created characters from family when not active have them walking around and existing. Instead of an empty house. I feel like that would add such a nice little feel to the game. To see you son's daughters or husband's character roaming around when they aren't playing. Everyone on the island knows then so it makes sense.
one thing that i would like to see is more realistic weather. it would be nice for the weather in the game to follow the weather outside your house. having this feature enabled will be an optional feature.
it would be nice to more realistic weather. imagine it raining in the game when it is raining outside. whether it is a light drizzle, a steady rain or a heavy thunder storm.
updated winter weather would be nice to. being able to have a light snow at times or even have the risk of a heavy snow, making it so that your character needs snow shoes in order to travel outside without getting stuck in the snow.
also the possibility of the rivers and ponds freezing over would be nice. even though being able to walk on the ice would be nice, its horrible to think about the possibility for the ice to break and for your character to fall through the ice and go for a swim (even if it just to avoid drowning. with the possibility of the rivers and ponds freezing over, it could add an option to go ice fishing.
we also need more house upgrades. only add three rooms on the first floor, as well as a second floor and a basement is not enough. it would be nice to have multiple rooms on each floor and have them expanded. or better yet, an additional (optional) upgrade afterwards that lets you add even more rooms to each level of the house and let you pick how they are connected. having rooms like a real house would be nice. just imagine adding additional rooms with the option of having hallways to connect them. however, that may be cost 50,000,000+ bells.
Blathers repetition reduction would be nice, but probably would be set as an option to modify from the start screen.
if Nintendo speeds up online travel time, they would have to update the way that the system works. try to make traveling at the airport work more like the real world. making it so that you can purchase tickets in advance (with help from the Nintendo switch online app).
it would help make traveling easier for when 3+ people want to travel into someone's town at the same time. just imagine the primary person (the person who everyone is visiting) waiting at the airport for the other to arrive. as well as having the option of watching each of the flights come in for a landing. it would be nice to greet a friend on the runway after the plane lands instead of having to greet them at the gate. the runway may need to be expanded for this, but either way your villager would just be standing on the pier waiting for the plane to land.
Nintendo also needs to update the game so that the D.I.Y. recipes are more organized. now that we have bunny day recipes, there should be addition section for them. recipe sections for toy day , Halloween, and other holiday recipes need to be added as well. by December we may have hundreds of additional recipes; hopefully Nintendo has an update to help us keep track of them all without getting lost in a very long list.
hopefully Nintendo has an additional upgrade or two for nook's cranny. we have lots of items to collect and we want them now. as well as a better way of previewing the wallpapers and flooring before we buy them instead of just seeing them on a list in a cabinet. hopefully the next upgrade for nooks cranny will be a big department like Nookingtons or ST&T Emporium or better.
Allowing to have windows on or off with all wallpapers. not changing the buttons around for being the leader and not being the leader. allowing not the leader to use the tool ring just like we can use reactions. allowing residents to notice not the leaders reactions and allowing multiple people to be island rep but only if the og wants it. Diamond tools that don't break ever i'm so sick of my tools all breaking. A multi selection button like the x button in the gcn game to highlight multiple object. being able to select how many things to craft but also how many fruit to eat. also bringing back errands for your residents to give you more things to do and more ways to get furniture. Gyroids WE NEED Gyroids. Being able to change the dodo colors to what you want this orange color sucks but im to far to reatart not knowing till I went to another island being able to change to change the color of anything I the kiosk why force people to use online not every one has it and people will rob you of stuff online becuase they suck
1 more item storage in house, or unlimited...
2 ability to craft using materials in storage
3 batch crafting
4 tool durability bars
Each Switch user getting their own island would be nice.
Fossil inventory on your phone (like bugs and fish)!
You time limited diy the ability on the last day to buy the diy recipes with Nook Miles.
Ability to reorder apps on your Nook Phone.
Ability to turn off item spawns (Bunny Day) when you are done with it/not interested.
Ability to tell in game which in season bugs and fish you haven't caught (highlight the missing entry with a different colour).
Ability to turn on a grid line display when placing items.
Horoscope themed stuff. Maybe some statues.
I'd like for an update to be made to the purchasing formats, like with the Able Sister's, when in the closet trying on clothes, I want to add things to a cart and check out multiple items rather than need to repeatedly exit the closet and try clothes on again and again to purchase. Same general thing with Nook's, instead of just the option of 1 or 5 (bulk), I'd like to be able to add as many as I can carry or what would fit in my storage.
I would say a big flaw that is not covered here is the ability to craft using materials from your storage. Not only is it a nuisance to have to pull the materials from your storage into your inventory every time you want to craft something, it also doesn't make sense, as the idea works for other things. When you get changed using your wardrobe, it pulls clothes from your storage, as well as when you customize your home using down on the Dpad. It's just odd!
Honestly wish they would add the Cafe Shop, Stylist Shop, and Kick's shop to the Island. That way we can have a Shop Setup going on to make it look like a Town on an island.
