Today, the Nintendo Switch Online service adds Rare's 1994 Super Nintendo classic, Donkey Kong Country.
Alongside this is the arrival of the SNES title Natsume Championship Wrestling (originally released in the same year), and the 1990 Electronic Arts NES title, The Immortal.
Here's the official rundown of each game:
Donkey Kong Country – Armed with chest-pounding muscle, mighty barrel rolls and awesome vine-swinging skills, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong set out to face their adversaries, K. Rool and his reptilian crew of Kremlings. Play solo, compete with a friend or play cooperatively in over 100 levels filled with collectibles and hidden bonus levels.
Natsume Championship Wrestling– Choose from 12 outrageous wrestlers and bring the pain! With a robust grappling system and over 50 moves to master, experience the most realistic wrestling action of the 16-bit era. Test your might against the AI, or up to two players can compete in exhibition, tag team and round robin matches.
The Immortal – Grab your Wizard’s Pack and let your quest unfold as you explore the Labyrinth of Eternity. Delve into the dungeon’s depths to uncover the mysteries of the ancient ruins. Your teacher Mordamir awaits below!
If you happen to have access to the Japanese NSO library, today also sees the release of a fourth game - the 1992 Super Famicom RPG Shin Megami Tensei by Atlus. Here's a description, courtesy of Japanese Nintendo:
"The first title in the Shin Megami Tensei series (although the third in the Megami Tensei series) that originally released on the Super Famicom in 1992. Shin Megami Tensei is a first-person dungeon crawler that features turn-based 3D battles against demons, where players can both recruit demons as allies and fuse demons together to create new ones. By using the character’s three attributes (Law, Chaos, and Neutral), you can change the outcome of the ending of the game."

FINALLY DKC is HERE!!!!
Ahh, finally. Almost broke down and bought it on the 3DS.
I'm still waiting for 2. The best one of course.
Let us hope that a Direct will come after they release the games.
Wow, I'm So Hype For The Immortal Coming to switch. DK is here!!
BANANAAAAAAAAAAAAA SLAMMA
The Very Second I Seen DKC On the thumbnaill, I Without thinking clicked on the video
Can't wait to finish this again for like the 30th time. Still one of the best games ever made.
Yeeeeeees!!! I was just thinking yesterday and earlier today about how we should be getting close to Nitnendo updating the SNES Online catalogue again and how I would like to see the DKC games! Perfect timing!
WALNUTS PEANUTS PINEAPPLE SMELLS
I’m shocked it wasn’t a part of their launch lineup, I actually assumed it was!
Also LOL at The Immortal, that game is truly unforgiving. Get ready, millennials!
@Grot
At least if you bought it on vc you could play it any time and never pay for it again.
One part of me is very happy for DKC, but the other is upset there’s not going to be any type of DKC collection or something.
I’m still banking on an Earthbound collection of some sort hence the non-release of that (yet.) I’ll be so happy!
I'm going bananas for this update.
@Torakaka The dude that leaked the March Mini Direct and also some Pokemon stuff is talking about there being a Direct on the 20th of this month.
Obviously take it with a grain of salt until confirmed but he's been right in the past.
@GameOtaku True, and I might yet do that before the eShop closes down so I can play it on Wii U too. But, I’m not canceling my NSO subscription anytime soon, so this works for now.
I just beat 2 and 3 on Wii U for the millionth time, so I'll be happy to replay #1 on Switch.
FINALLY!!!! DKC2 is the one I want to replay though,I never got the true ending as a kid
Glad to see DKC, but I was hoping the rumors were true and we'd get all three of them. Ah well. Baby steps, yes? I'm excited!
D K! DON-KEY KONG! D K! DONKEY KONG (Country) IS HERE!
I'll give it a go, I suppose. Didn't like Returns or Tropical Freeze, though.
Awesome! Now get 2 and 3!
Still wouldn't say no to HD remasters of DKC, but no idea if that's even in the cards... I will say though this two months between drip releases now (May then July) has my SMRPG September (Super Mario's 35th!) hype train a rollin'.
@ChromaticDracula If they updated Earthbound to look like the Links Awakening remake, keeping the same script...that would send me to heaven!!
You see how easy this is Nintendo? 25 year old game that we’ve all played - and we go nuts! Very happy to have this on my Switch.
@kemosabii A remake of DKC in the style of Octopath would look amazing, especially with proper lighting.
Nice, glad to see DKC coming to NSO's SNES catalog. Kinda wish 2 and 3 were included though, but it'll do.
Rare Replay Confirmed!!
Pretty sweet, I'll gladly play through DKC for like the umpteenth time. 😆
NCW is a nice touch, I know it's probably not that great of a game, but worth checking out now it'll be on the service.
About dang time. Now give us the other two DKC games.
Never heard of The Immortal before, but it looks exactly like kind of NES game I could blow some time on.
Never been good at DKC. Maybe I'll finally get it together and conquer this game. (With heavy abuse of save states, of coursel
I’ll take it.
Is that wrestling game any good?
I’ve waited so long for this! Although, I would personally prefer a Remake of all the original country games. Still cool though! Can’t wait to play it!
Should be the 3 titles AND Mario RPG since the beginning... But ok, it's starting.
The titles I want to replay are Zelda, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Metroid (all these already in the service) DKC 1, 2 and 3 and Mario RPG...
That's because I think it's nearly impossible to see translated titles like Fire Emblem (both). And titles already in collections, like Mega Man X1, X2 and X3, Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana. And TMNT Turtles in Time due license problems
Glad to see this one finally come to NSO. Hopefully, the other two will follow.
@Torakaka i belive Nintendo will do a Nintendo Direct after the release of Paper Mario The Origami King.
Goody! I want to try that!
@nessisonett grapes, melons, oranges, and coconut shells!
I think they should add some features in the service, like hide games you don't want to play (almost all of them in my case)
finally Nintendo added Donkey Kong Country after our plees, now Nintendo need to make a new Donkey Kong Country for Switch.
Nintendo after releasing a classic DK game for the switch, free for members: hopefully this’ll hold them off unt-
Choosing beggars: well yes, but actually no.
I do have fond memories of DKC, I'm glad that it's finally coming to the Switch. Also, I didn't realize that The Immortal had a NES release. I was only aware of the PC version...
Drip...drip....drip....drip! This pace is actually worse than Wii U was! Terrible! And now Finally DKC arrives and you can’t even buy it if you wanted too!! 😤🤬
He's bigger! Faster! And stronger too! He's the first member of the DK Crew! Huh!
DK! DONKEY KONG! DK! DONKEY KONG IS HERE!
SO THEY'RE FINALLY HERE
EA: That counts as one of those seven titles.
@RCGamer OMG the Turtles games for NES and SNES would make me loose my millennial mind 🤯!!!
I know that I’m simplifying things that I don’t fully understand, but really if Nickelodeon truly wanted to they would get with Konami and figure out the ownership and rights situation to the old TMNT games because they would make stuuuuuupid money from people like me.
One of my favorite SNES games. A game I can always go back to.
I hope they add DKC 2 and 3 next. Having the whole trilogy on the switch would be amazing
Glad to see DKC1 coming to SNES NSO at last. Hopefully Wario's Woods SNES get its chance as well.
As far as the other two...meh.
Oh maaan, and Japan's getting Shin Megami Tensei as well on this update!
While I'm excited for DKC...for me, The Immortal is where its at. I remember it as being BRUTALLY difficult when I was kid, and I can't wait to give it another go...maybe actually be able to get much of anywhere in it, too, with the rewind and save states. lol...For a NES game it looks great...plays great...and is a ton of difficult fun.
Can’t wait for them to complete the trilogy in 2031.
Surprised it wasn't there to begin with. Good game.
NCW is a solid wrestling game . It takes a while to learn, but its fun when you do.
It might be time to fix up one of my sucky 8bitdo dpads and give DKC another shot.
@LatsaSpege "Rare Replay Confirmed!!"
🤦♂️
Yes! Donkey Kong Country! Also the Immortal is a really impressive NES game, but maaaan is it ever tough. I'll probably end up using the rewind feature a bit on that one.
Oh wow, this is actually quite cool! First game added to the service in a while that I actually would like to play.
I still really want some classic JRPGs though.
Come on Square, you can give us at least Mario RPG! Or just one classic Final Fantasy on the system! Please?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah yes!
Now get the other 2 on there please!
Maybe I'll get some dkc in before paper Mario drops
This is actually my favorite donkey Kong, and that’s saying something. I just liked the setting the best. I’m not jumping to play this on my switch tho as I have it on so many other platforms but it’s a good one for those that don’t. NCW is decent enough as well, pretty odd selection of games offered after dk but variety’s good. I do miss the days of vc tho. We’d get a selection of new games each week.
I've actually been replaying the DKC series on my Wii U. The first one is the only one I don't own, but that's because I personally believe it is the blandest one in the series. The level design pales in comparison to 2 and 3. The only good thing about it is that it actually allows you to play as DK.
Nice! Bring it on!
Hope we get part 2 soon after.
Pretty good selections. DKC is a classic, of course. The wrestling game is one of the more fun wrestling games on the SNES. And The Immortal is hard as nails.
FINALLY! Hoping we get a massive update on the anniversary in a couple months!
@Giygas_95
DKC2 is one of those games that truly stands the test of time. The soundtrack, graphics, level design, characters, it's an amazing game
@Classic603 I find several of the songs from it are rather soothing when I'm working. My favorite is Forest Interlude. The game has amazing atmosphere especially in those forest stages.
@Toshiro_Baloney You see how easy this is Nintendo? 25 year old game that we’ve all played - and we go nuts!
Yeah they know how it easy it is to get you guys to go nuts. Taking this long to get this game out and you guys still cheer, they know there is no need to get in a hurry for future SNES game releases. You want Earthbound? You'll wait as long as they want you too and then praise them when they finally release it.
This is great, but Donkey Kong Country was already on the SNES mini.
It's been a long time for 2 and 3.
Superb. The original is my favourite of the trilogy. The Immortal was one of those games I really wanted to play back in the day but never did, I doubt it's aged too well though.
Immortal is so hard!! With the rewind functions , maybe I managed to advance in the game.
Come on Cranky, take it to the fridge!
@Giygas_95
I love Good Knight Productions covers, and Forest Interlude is my alarm on my phone
The Immortal was published by EA and I don't think many, if any of their games were released on Wii or Wii U VC and definitely nothing on Switch so this could be the start of something. I'd love to play Jungle Strike again.
Sweet!! Haven't played the original DKC since the gameboy port I got over a decade ago. Finally, an SNES online addition to get excited about!
@Classic603 This guy does good restoration work. I really love this version of Bayou Boogie.
@Giygas_95
That sounds great, I'll have to spend time on his channel now. Thanks!
Nice! Definitely one of the best SNES games!
Good Lord, we might still get a good collection of online games!
@Classic603 No problem, and I'll look up Good Knight Productions.
@KingBowser86 Tropical Freeze is one of my favorite platformers ever!
"cue childhood memory moment" - I remember when i was about 6 or 7 and this was released for snes it absolutely blew my tiny mind. I dont mind admitting we wasnt a well off family and i was the youngest of 5 children, the next youngest being 9 years older than me (was i mistake? 🤔🤫🤷♂️) so christmas was alrealy a struggle but my whole immediate family clubbed together to buy me this. I knew i had it from the moment i i see the snes shaped box under the tree. I had been banging on about it for months before hand from magazine footage etc and I actually think i cried when i opened it.This, along with playing Ocarina of time for the first time are my most cherished gaming memory ever. To this day i still say its this game that gave me my love for jungle themed games and levels. I feel sorry for anyone that didnt play this in the 90s when it was the pinnacle of platforming. One of the very, very best games ever created. 💕
[EDIT] Wow, i was actually 11 so i obvioustly didnt cry 😏🙈😬
@Rkulaski The boss fights looked super-fun! But the collectibles, sudden platform yanking, minecarts, ah it just bugged me.
Why is DKC rated T?
@KingBowser86 minecarts were not so bad albeit a little frustrating but i dont care for collectables in platformers and i found the levels a tad too long in TF.
I've had a head start here, playing it on original SNES. With Ice Age Alley though, I could really go for some save states...
I've actually been having fun with the NES and SNES NSO service. Finished up Journey to Silus, which is a great game. Also Wild Guns, a ton of fun. Now working on Rygar. Getting over $270 worth of Virtual Console games for $20 a year isn't bad at all.
I want DKC2, DKC3 and a brand new Donkey Kong Country game! Come on, Nintendo!
@RCGamer i agre with you. Licensing issues are a bummer. Thats where my snes mini comes in to play also for DK 2 and 3.
Have never been a fan of the DKC games. They felt more like deluxe Amiga 1200 games to me. Always preferred the Japanese developed platformers.
The Japanese version of NCW, Zen-Nippon Pro Wrestling Dash was excellent and had licensed characters. I think they were stripped out for the US release.
The Immortal was a decent game on the Amiga/MD, not sure what it was like on an 8-bit system.
P.S. Apologies to anyone i have upset with my DKC comments
Jesus Christ, thats all? Finally some great games, but only 3? After such a long wait we should have gotten at least 10 games!
Ah back to the old game days
@NotTelevision it is a wrestling game from 1994, so try to guess.... it is funny for about 10 seconds
Great, but what about just giving us the whole DKC trilogy already?! 😅
Rambi for Smash!
I really wish Nintendo would just give us a proper virtual console instead of this shoddy pay to play rental service. Thank goodness for emulators and projectdolphin. I love Nintendo and their amazing library of games but these recent practices along with their draconian methodology when dealing with certain matters is barbaric, opportunistic and sadistic.
I think it was the Console Wars book that pointed out that the DKC country games extended the life of the SNES, giving Nintendo more time to work on the N64.
@nessisonett take all my likes and thumbs up for this month, you’ve earned them well. -inflates self just like a balloon-
I think I pee'd a little in over-excitement
Seems like I'll be playing another EA game this year after C and C remastered. Who'd have thought?!
Yes! Can’t wait to play DKC again 😊
yesssssssssss cant wait to play this almost got it on the 3ds.
Am very excited to play the immortal. Always wanted the mega drive version after seeing it played in a shop but supposed to be brutal hard. Am glad dkc on switch but own it elsewhere on 3ds and SNES mini xx
@Ultimategamer132 You do realize Donkey Kong himself struts about entirely nude for the entire game? (That tie is insufficient...)
Awesome news, great game that pushed the SNES to the max back in the day.
@DoktorTotenKopf,
Sounds a bit strong fella, you can bet your bottom dollar if Nintendo thought it could make money from a proper virtual console service it would be in place, my bet is the sales had declined from the initial service on the Wii to the Wii U.
Plus people still complained about the price of the individual titles on the virtual console as well, the new system is much better imho.
@COVIDberry
If that’s the case...THEN IT SHOULD BE RATED M, NO, AO FOR FULL-FRONTAL NUDITY! SOMEONE GET THE ESRB ON THE PHONE RIGHT NOW!
@johnvboy the new system is rubbish; I would much rather have the games available to purchase and keep indefinitely. These predatory practices they use now are making me play their games less and less.
@Snatcher the DKC games play beautifully on 3DS. Highly recommend you purchase them now before the 3DS shop closes completely.
DKC was the bundle I got with my Snes, the huge box was awesome woth DK on it! Best birthday gift ever.
The Immortal might be playable with a rewind. Have the Natsume Wrestling on the Wii. Its ok I Wanted it to be better.
Finally, about time. 😃💚👏🏻
Take it to the fridge!
Is this one of EAs previously announced Switch titles?
Happy to see DKC join the rest, but more excited to see two third party games added to the line-up.
The underwater level with Enguarde has the best music ever.....remember myself and my cousin both getting this on launch day all those years ago!
@DoktorTotenKopf,
That does not make the new system rubbish. it's you and others do not personally like it, I have no issues with it and feel it's great value, perception you see.
I will not stop begging until Lufia (2) rise of the sinistrals is on there. That’s a game every rpg lover should play at least once!
@johnvboy @Creature
That’s why VC needs to come back! No more checkins just buy the game and play at your leisure. The check in is really problematic when you don’t have access to the internet at home. (Or like myself in addition don’t play multiplayer games only local coop) Why not have it both ways?! A larger VC of games to purchase and a slow drip feed of rentals to subs. Everyone wins.
I would love a definitive version of the DKC series. I loved some of the additions in the GBA releases, but they could also definitely do with a fresh lick of paint (resolution)...
These old games, simply do not appeal to me. By the time we get Wii or GameCube games, people on Playstation-10 will be living in some kind of full sensory matrix.
@GameOtaku,
True, but with the way Nintendo do not let you migrate games from console to console, this seems a much worse idea, and although there will still be people with no or unreliable internet, most Nintendo Switch owners will be fine.
@johnvboy
I’m guessing you forgot about the account system that links your 3ds/wiiu and switch.
@GameOtaku,
I was talking about all the games on the virtual console Wii and Wii U that have been lost, not paying for them over and over.
I thought this was already on there. Lol. Great more people can play it now
@johnvboy
I’m aware of the games on wii vc and wiiware are lost, but as far as wiiu and 3ds none of those have been lost. It could be as simple as taking an sd card and transferring vc content to your pc and uploading it to the sd card on switch for games they’ve been delisted for whatever reason. Online play was free on last gen Nintendo but you had to buy retro content so that was a fair trade. As of now though it’s anti consumer wanting you to pay for online play using a internet connection you pay for and not using servers and locking the retro content behind said service cutting off those that don’t play online nor have a connection.
@GameOtaku It's 2020. Who, in the developed world, doesn't have access to the internet at home? You would literally be unable to very basic required things (pay taxes, etc) and if you don't have WiFi at home, you could easily buy a cheap Wifi access point and use that.
Or if you have a smartphone you could use it as a hotspot for your Switch.
Also, how will you download VC games without internet access?
@sanderev
Are you serious? I file with paper! I have an antenna and get free tv.
Rural area. You can’t get reliable internet service in the country. Even on my smart phone I get maybe one or two bars of internet service in one room of the house next to a window and hold perfectly still. I downloaded games by going to WiFi hotspots but that’s not always an option. Funny how the rental stores died out yet everyone just wants to rent games rather than pay a one time fee to play indefinitely with no strings attached. You’d be ahead just buying.
That 2nd video showing Diddy Kong getting 100 lives is an exploit I didn't know... redownloads on New Nintendo 3DS
Sweet good news
@johnvboy your thoughts and opinions mean nothing to me.
Finally! I really wanted to try out that game.
I have to get back to the SNES collection.
@DoktorTotenKopf,
Just as your opinions and thoughts have no impact on me or anyone else.
@GameOtaku,
There of course will be issues and not everyone can be catered for, but for me the service is good, I can play games that I may not have even considered if I was having to buy them individually.
@johnvboy they obviously have; since they spurred you to spit up your drivel in the comment section. Go away.
I'd say "it's about time", but that phrase is linked to a different furred mammal who breaks wooden containers and eats fruit these days.
Still, well, it was high time DKC came to the service, given that, well, we pay for it. And given the N-Sane Trilogy is on Switch, I can say "high time".
Donkey Kong Country is one of my favorite games ever made. It blew my mind back in the 90s. I’m booting this up immediately.
Sad that Natsume's games look worse 26 years later.
AWESOME! Now I just need to finally get one of those official SNES controllers.
I didn't know people still used this service.
Finally adding some actual value to the NSO service, just extended my subscription by a further year so to see this added is very welcome...
Awesome game!! Now 2 and 3, please. I like these games more than Returns and Tropical Freeze.
@DoktorTotenKopf,
Why are you so against anyone responding to your comments?, I have not said you are not right on a personal level.
Epic, but why wasn't it there on release? I'm sure it would be motivate at least one person to buy online.
@KingBowser86 Yeah the minecarts had moments but I felt they were too difficult in some parts (Or I’m just not that skilled!)
okay when are they going to give us the option to not have the ugly borders / profile photo when playing ?
it seems so intentional at this point.
it gets in the way of me fully enjoying these if I'm being 100% honest
Screw Natsume wrestling, let's get Saturday Night Slam Masters in there.
This is fantastic news! The switch just got cooler!
@johnvboy
But it should be fair to everyone. Only NSO subscribers get access to the games and it comes with strings attached that make it difficult for those without internet access readily available. I wasted $10 on two separate one month subs just to play less than two weeks of nso nes games. I could’ve spent that on vc games I could be playing right now instead I’ve nothing to show for it other than disdain for the lockout of service.
@GameOtaku Is that still such a problem? Here in the Netherlands almost 80% of all households have access to the internet in some form. And of the remaining 20% (most commonly elderly people), I don't think many people play Switch anyway. Same goes for most places in (Western) Europe, honestly. I don't know about the state on other continents, though, so you may be right there.
I already own all 3 boxed and complete, so I'm good!
As for the others, even if they're crap, I still love having more and more games to try out! It's why I own a big physical collection of SNES games, love that era where they tried whatever they wanted to!
My reaction on this article:
DKC: Yessss
the other two titles: ....Okay.
@e-love I agree. Those borders and the profile picture are so stupid. At least an option to turn them off Nintendo, thank you.
Glad to have DKC on Switch, but the other two games are disappointing (at least from what I've seen/heard). The previous update was better overall.
Still, more games is a good thing.
@DoktorTotenKopf Wow, that was uncalled for. Best you stay out of the comments if you can't do any better than that.
@sanderev
The internet is not a necessity. I can go out and use public WiFi but with the covid locking up access to said places it’s difficult. That’s what’s driving illegal emulation. They aren’t giving equal access so we download a emu and roms and that’s that. If they truly want to stamp it out they need to release content to all fairly and lots of it.
@johnvboy Plus, buying a VC NES title on 3DS did not give you access to that game on the Wii U - even with a shared account system.
There was an upgrade path from Wii to Wii U. You could play your Wii titles in the Wii emulator, or pay part of the price to get direct access in Wii U.
I like the subscription model better. Keep the games coming!
@Dr_Corndog I’m fine; mind your business.
I don't care how much of a classic Donkey Kong Country is, this service still sucks, the games are coming too slow, they took 2 months to release 3 games, and few people care about the other 2 games.
The service doesn't need Nintendo 64 or Game Boy games, first it needs the games coming faster.
@OorWullie The Immortal is now an IP of Piko Interactive, the people who licensed Eliminator Boat Duel to the NES NSO app. It's also on a Piko Interactive compilation cartridge for the Evercade: https://www.evercade.co.uk/piko-interactive-collection-1-cartridge/
As dutch ‘sigh’: “He he” (meaning: finally!)
@antonio2244
Did you enjoy Returns and Tropical Freeze?
@johnvboy I 100% agree with you on the online service. Nintendo created it because people criticized them for having to always rebuy games over and over again for each new platform. With the online service, you are getting about $300 worth of VC games for $20 a year. No, you don't "own" them. If that's a deal breaker, you can find the original consoles and get the games that way, pick up one of the NES/SNES classic minis or download ROMs and emulate them on your PC. Xbox is pretty much moving to this "subscription" model for all their games with XCloud and Game Pass.
Just came here to say, its about time! Going to play the mess out of this
Despite comparatively lukewarm interest in Donkey Kong Country over the years, it's a welcome addition, although I'm more impressed they undug The Immortal's NES port. The game can feel clunky and frustrating but quite ambitious for its day nonetheless. Someone even updated the Wikipedia page already, although I kinda question the "ported to Switch" terminology in regards to what assumably runs on an emulator like everything else in NES app.
@Tandy255 I prefer the model that gets us more games, and so far the subscription model doesn't seem to be it. We had way more games on Wii U VC 3 years into its life.
@NotoriousWhiz You aren’t wrong there. In addition to NES and SNES, the Wii U had N64, GBA, DS, TG-16, along with a few Wii Titles in the eShop (e.g. Metroid Prime Trilogy).
It was a strange way to play DS games, but the rest were pretty solid.
I would guess that GBA games will be added next to NSO. The Switch in handheld mode is already like a giant GBA.
gonna be playing that 24/7 next week
2 and 3 will probably also be added as well pretty much confirms it
@LatsaSpege Your profile pic/gif fits your excitement today 😁
About time long overdue
@DoktorTotenKopf I am a frequent visitor to this website. It is therefore my business if someone like you decides to be insulting and make this website unpleasant for myself and others. Don't forget that you're posting to a public comments section.
Revisiting this classic is going to be awesome and I may cry out of pure joy because the childhood memories will be flooding in. I don't think I ever played Immortal so that will be nice to try and the wrestling game will get a look as well. I too agree with some that a few more games should have been added due to the wait but 3 is better than nothing.
@Dr_Corndog,
Ignore him, if he wants to post comments to get a reaction, then complains when people react, he is being stupid posting on here.
@Tandy255,
Many of the people complaining about the new subscription based service were the same people complaining about the pricing structure of the virtual console games.
@kingbk,
So true, and Nintendo are only going to add more games and previous consoles in the future.
@Giygas_95
https://youtu.be/8EYGGiNGd9c
Another great cover of Stickerbush Symphony
@Classic603 Unexpected combination, but a good one!
@Classic603 I enjoyed Returns, but loved Tropical Freeze!
@antonio2244
I'm finally replaying Returns on 3ds, and looking to get Tropical Freeze on Switch. I had it on WiiU but who knows where that went haha. I don't hardly remember anything about them, but Returns first few levels so far sound exactly like DKC1
@Giygas_95
Yeah it works together so well. Blue Brew has a cover of Gangplank Galleon that I love, as well
Still have fingers crossed for DKC2, DKC3,Earthbound, FF4, & FF6.
@vio rare replay confirimed. when?
@LatsaSpege when was rare replay confirmed?
@Desrever AVGN did a review of The Immortal. After watching it I have to say I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
@Indielink,
I could see it happening. That would be after Paper Mario, so that might be the time to show the other stuff. Personally I still hope for a Direct with Zelda AND Metroid! If there won't be a Direct in July, then I think Nintendo just keeps drip-feeding us untill the end of the year. I agree with what some people said before: I find at this point a Direct more exciting then a shadow drop, even if a Direct has huge potential to dissapoint. When you know a Direct is coming your blood gets pumping: Will Zelda and Metroid be there?
DK returns DX for NS please!
@DoktorTotenKopf
‘barbaric, opportunistic and sadistic‘....‘your thoughts and opinions mean nothing to me’....‘spit up your drivel in the comment section. Go away.’
The irony. The comedy.
@brandonbwii
Haven’t played the NES version. I quite liked it on the Megadrive back in the early 90s but played it a few years ago and it hasn’t aged well. So I can’t imagine the NES version will be great.
@johnvboy did you hear a zipper? Then why do you open your mouth? Trolls like you are loathsome.
whoooooaaa amazing
@DoktorTotenKopf,
Don't be such an idiot fella, you come on a comment section posting rubbish, than get upset when someone questions your insane views, by that definition I would say you are a troll, but in reality just a fool.
@electrolite77,
These idiots pop up from time to time, I have so much fun responding to them.
@brandonbwii To be fair, I'm a sucker for clunky NES games. Especially those early RPGs. I'll go into it knowing that its not going to be a hidden masterpiece, though.
(We already have Crystalis for that)
@DoktorTotenKopf
Again, the irony
@johnvboy
Yeah they come and go. I’ve been here since it was the Virtual Console Archive so I’ve seen plenty. It’s a shame the Internet has bred so many of them but it is what it is.
@electrolite77,
If you have been on here that long you must have seen too many of them to count.
All well and good, maybe DKC should have been there already, but the other titles sort of point out the eventual problem with third party games. Sure, when they first come out, they bolster the lineup with a variety of games you wouldn’t usually get from NIntendo, but the best ones become important titles to owners of that system. But fast forward to the future, where they can put a virtual version of the system in their current console, and those third party titles that were once so important can’t make their way back as easily. I can think of a lot of titles I’d rather see than “Natsume Championship Wrestling”, but that’s what they can get their hands on.
I think we know by now we’ll see Super Mario World and Link To The Past every time they bring out the old titles for a new console, but there sure are a lot of other games we plugged into a SNES in ‘93 they we’ll never see make a comeback. Even NIntendo can’t put out ALL of their old titles these days (Popeye, anyone?), so we’ll never see any “virtual console” setup giving us everything we’d want.
shame that we got a wrestling game instead of SMT...
DK country already played through it like 50 times from start to finish so don't think I'll have a go soon. Going to check what those other games are bout then
Finally DK but I want all three
Ahhhh that music on the underwater level.... so relaxing!
Natsume Championship Wrestling is where it's at.
Good additions. But the trickle made me stop my subscription until there's something I want to play online on Switch (at moment it's gathering dust).
swankyyyyyyy
Nice. We are getting a solid variety of old school classics. Alot of which I have never heard of before.
Good news! I missed the DKC craze back in the day so I'll be sure to try it out - I already recommended it to my kiddos.
The Eternal is one I haven't played in an eternity!! 8)
I think I rented that one at some point.
For the price, I'm loving my NSO family subscription - it gets better each time they add to the US and Japanese NES/FC and SNES/SFC libraries!
Okay, okay, fun little game, so far. Collision detection and hit/hurtboxes are a bit wonky, but this is pretty standard, platforming stuff otherwise. I do miss the Rareware aesthetic and the occasional gold-toned collectibles. I could enjoy thi--
Minecart Carnage
Yep, nope, all yours, K. Rool. Blast the island with a laser for all I care.
DKC did not have anywhere near 100 levels. (Nintendo, nobody but your PR is going to count each one- or two-screen bonus room as a "level".)
More like 30-something, I think it was.
They repeating that same thing they did with Super Mario World.
DK Donkey kong!
So much for the whole "but Rare owns DK" lol, no they don't. Nice try, though. Also DKC2 > DKC.
Cute, but still not an excuse for the murder of the Virtual Console. Overcharging for ROMs is one thing; pretending access to ROMs is some kind of paid premium privilege is another degree of stupid altogether.
Piko Interactive hold the IP of The Immortal now. So to anyone still expecting the likes of Desert Strike and Jungle Strike to come to the SNES app, they're still owned by EA, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
"Are they digging holes in my mountain!?"
"YES"
Also, very excited to play SMT1 on a home console
NSO is still a scam, not worth it. Plus a lot of games have visual and audio glitches not present when emulating games on PC. So yeah. Avoid it. They need to offer up more than just glitchy pixels and laggy Smash Bros. experiences for that $20 price tag.
Time to give them the old banana slamma!
Chrono Trigger
@Toshiro_Baloney Dude I love Forbidden Zone.
I remember in 1993 when I got a video in the mail because I was a subscriber to Nintendo Power that showed the making of Donkey Kong Country. I watched it when my friends came over and we knew we needed to get the game. We picked it up at the local mall, popped it in and were amazed by what we were seeing.
Looking forward to playing it again.
And for the record, I still prefer the NSO model over the VC model. This model, I'm getting $300 worth of VC games for $20 a year.
Mine cart carnage. The best level of any game ever.
About time as well!
Great stuff.
Wish we were getting Shin Megami Tensei
Well I'm happy that DK is finally here,but to be honest its not enough.My Nintendo Online subscription ends soon and I'm not paying for another year that for sure.I'm not playing anything online anyway and the games they give us every now and then are just not worth it.I miss Virtual Console where I could just buy the game I like.
