Re: Happy 130th Birthday, Nintendo!

Happy Birthday to Nintendo and all those passionate individuals who made these games possible. My old NES is still working and in my childhood bedroom at my family’s house.

Look forward to many more great memories.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #9 - The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

Yeah I voted Europe here, because I like that elegant black and gold color combination.

If we were to include any edition of the game, I’d give it to the package art (not cover art for game) that the recent European Limited Edition got. That image of Koholint Island is beautifully composed and leaves a lot to the imagination.

Ahh... still working on Astral Chain, but I couldn’t resist Link’s Awakening, so I’m downloading that right now. I was going to get the physical edition, but the download is so small and I’ll likely never sell it and do yearly playthroughs of the game.

I heard mixed things about the chamber dungeons, but considering how much I liked the jumbled layouts in Cadence, I think I’ll get some value from that.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th September (North America)

NotTelevision

Well now that Angry Bunnies has arrived I’m going to need to put every waking hour into that.

No, EVERY WAKING SECOND.

But seriously, Link’s Awakening will be one I’ll get on in a week or so, after completing Astral Chain. I’ve put way more time into these SNES games than I thought. Hope Nintendo will hook us up with with DK Country and Super Punch Out! soon.

Re: If You Want NieR: Automata Ported To Nintendo Switch "Please Ask Square Enix"

@nessisonett Yeah I like the life simulator aspects of the game as well. It’s the dying and losing an hour and a half of progress, then going back to do the same series of turned based battles that caused me to shelf it for a bit. For some reason when I die in a game like Dark Souls, I can’t wait to get back in there and whoop that demon’s backside. But in JRPGs I find it more like a chore.

Still a fantastic game and one that I’ll get around to finishing.

Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

NotTelevision

@Anri02 Yeah not a perfect site. I remember the article you are referring to. Definitely a bad take. Also they were too quick to jump to a conclusion on the controversial poster in Cyberpunk 2077. They didn’t seem to want to explore further the context of what such a poster meant in the world of the game.

But I don’t see the site as a terrible one either. Trying to find the political/social threads in video games is not a bad pursuit inherently. There seems to be an contradiction in the gaming community. You have people who see games as representing nothing outside the context of them being interactive playthings, not as forms of art or capable of having messages/themes that represent anything outside the world of the game. It seems like some in the community criticize Kotaku and Eurogamer, not just for having bad takes but also for attempting ground the world of the game into a larger social context. Not all takes are going to be “fair” or “correct” going forward, but I applaud the very fact that the attempt is being made and I don’t think it’s right to criticize the pursuit.

Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

NotTelevision

@Taarna I don’t think Kotaku is the best site either, but I can’t see why it’s a “dumpster fire” either. They lean pretty heavy on the franchise fandom perspective, and are pretty kind to most things “quirky”, but they also do alright reviews and have some interesting takes on things occasionally. Definitely not a terrible site, just one that is designed to appeal to everyone in the tech/ anime/video game sphere. That kind of limits it from greatness.

Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

NotTelevision

@RiasGremory Yeah I just don’t understand how one could call a reviewer “biased against the game”, if the gameplay/story/characters doesn’t present any interesting objectives beyond “well that’s supposed to be sexy”. It doesn’t sound like the game contextualizes any of the gameplay in any meaningful way, other than the pure “thrill” of being able to do this to the girls in the game.

Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

NotTelevision

What’s going on here? Sounds like a pretty bad game with GameCube graphics in 2019. Uninteresting gameplay that makes no sense. Boring, bland characters and story.

I mean I like Ed Wood movies and Manos the Hands of Fate, but I acknowledge that those are poorly made films. If someone gave them a 3 I’d understand why.

If this is your kind of game, then so be it. But don’t get upset when someone doesn’t take your passion for shooting breast with love juice seriously. Ohh no, my porn game got a bad review😂

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #8 - Metal Gear

This is also the version of the game that Hideo Kojima said wasn’t very faithful since they aparently changed a lot. It’s still a decent and innovative game for the time, but also incredibly frustrating.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #8 - Metal Gear

NotTelevision

@Ichiyama I like the first Terminator a bit more because it more like a techno-noir-horror kind of thing. Reminds me of the early films of Ridley and Tony Scott. T2 is probably one of the most visceral action movies ever made, but it’s a bit too drawn out and the scenes of exposition and humor feel a bit routine.

I also voted NA.

Re: Ubisoft Won't Be Moving Away From Open-World Game Design Anytime Soon

NotTelevision

It’s not a surprising statement by Ubisoft, but the market is already crowded with open world games that are starting to feel more like bloated Hollywood movies than new satisfying gameplay experiences. I only felt like completing 2 of the 4 Assassin’s Creed games I played.

I’m interested in Gods & Monsters but I’ll be disappointed if it is just AC with a different skin.

Re: Video: Contra: Rogue Corps Has A Demo And It Isn't Co-Op

NotTelevision

How do you mess up a Contra game this bad in 2019? The only people interested in a new Contra game were the ones who played it back in day, and this doesn’t look anything like it. I also won’t be dropping money on this generic twin stick shooter when I already have Nuclear Throne and Assalt Android Cactus.

Re: Video: Totaka's Song Returns In Link's Awakening On The Nintendo Switch

NotTelevision

@Mr_Muscle I’ve been wondering about this since the remake was revealed. Nintendo maybe wouldn’t want to take focus away from the new game by saying the DX/original was included and /or take away from the element of surprise. It would be a great addition, even if it was added later as free DLC for those that finished the game since this is meant to a celebration of Link’s Awakening.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a superior game in every way to Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. I know this community doesn’t rank sports games very high, but those Tiger Woods games are fantastic.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

It’s a good top ten. But is my vision correct or did Killer 7 not even make the top 50? C’mon lovely people we can do better than that. One of the most innovative narratives for the time.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 14th)

Blasphemous has been my main game this week, and really impressed with it. Has a really great atmosphere and interesting set of characters, which set it apart from other Metroidvanias on the Switch. The enemy variety is quite good with a fair amount of challenge. The real challenge lies with the platforming required to get some of these optional items. There is one item at the top of a room that requires you perfectly dodge a swinging incense burner. That had me on the edge of chair more than some of the (amazing) boss battles.

Re: Super Nintendo World To "Redefine" Theme Parks With Wristband That Connects To Your Console

NotTelevision

@Ogbert Yeah I would have liked to see some Zelda and Metroid too. At least for now it seems like they are focusing on the Mario/Donkey Kong francises. Maybe later they will add attractions for others.

What would a Zelda section be you think? I can’t imagine seeing something like Hyrule Castle or The Temple of Time to scale (they would need to pull from Ocarina/BOTW since Lttp is a little bit less played by a modern audience).
