I can’t say I’m a devoted Square-Enix follower, but every now and then I’ve been interested in their announcements. However it seems they almost always find a way to pour water on people’s excitement. There’s always something.
I wonder why there always is a such drama in Japan and US, but not Europe. I guarantee you'll just be able to walk into a "Mediamarkt" on launch day and pick one up from a big pile.
Over here (Germany) we have a My Nintendo store too, with those limitations for preordering. However... you could just preorder it from any other retailer at any time. Are all retailers in Japan sold out of their contingents already or are people hell-bent on ordering directly from Nintendo and no other place?
@sanderev Ok, thanks. Hmm, I have a Wavebird and one of the Smash re-releases. Wonder if I should get the adapter - it's inexpensive at 25€, but that's a bit messy.. or that new one.
„Instead of buying it I can save 2 gigs thanks Nintendo! lol“
„Lol, literally why would anyone buy this? I wouldn't even play it if it was a pack-in, let alone for ten dollars.“
I think the first two comments sum up why it might actually be smart to not make this a pack-in. The software wouldn’t have been of interest for many, it would have cluttered a clean system. I haven’t played that Sony Astrobot pack-in, but it sounds like that was a free platformer. This is not, it looks very nerdy.
It’s still going to sell fine, I know I’m gonna download it out of interest. 10€ is not bad.
“We’re thrilled, then, that Nintendo is finally bringing GameCube games back as part of the Nintendo Classics line-up on Nintendo Switch Online for the Switch 2.“
Are we though? It kinda ensures that we’re not going to see a lot more GC games remade.
@PharoneTheGnome Some 3 years again until OLED model most likely, no? I must say I think it's a good decision. The Switch 2 is pricey enough, and an OLED screen's benefits would be lost on many customers (I for example never use the handheld mode). Better to add it as an option.
If you watch their video, Richard Leadbetter is even more enthusiasic there. About MKWorld he said "If you want a game that's gonna sell Switch 2, this is it. This is a work of genius, sublime genius." and goes on for a bit more.
@Ogbert Yeah, it would have been the perfect fan service 😢 I can only imagine that they'd still rather distance themselves from a failed product.
I mean, there's not a lot of games, but "Virtual Boy Wario Land" really intrigues me. The idea that there is a proper in-house Mario platformer and I'll never get to try it..
@Ogbert I second that! Its 3D is one console feature that I thought was groundbreaking, almost magical. It just worked right out of the box with no additional hardware or setup, and it was all new. Never would have expected it to end up so divisive / disliked. Good thing I don't design consumer electronics eh... the engineers must have been devastated.
On a sidenote, still incredulous that they didn't port Virtual Boy games. That chance is not coming back :/
Funny, I think Link’s Awakening Switch is fantastic, more than I’d ever hoped for from a Zelda remake. I had such a good time and wish they’d remake more 2D entries in that style.
Mario RPG - well handled remake and I loved it, but here I prefer the odd vibe of the original. Being made by Square and not really sharing much with every Mario game up to that point. I’ve always had a soft spot for Super Mario Bros. 2 for the same reasons.
@Antraxx777 Yeah the wall surfing seems more palatable than the antigrav sections were. I just thought it never really had the desired effect - it didn’t feel spectacular or dramatic, but instead took away the sense of height (cause, if there’s no gravity, what does it even mean).
But I didn’t dislike antigrav as much as underwater sections. Felt sloooooow and floaty. Flying sections not my favourite either, sadly those seem to stick around. Oh well. Game looks great.
I have the feeling this game will keep getting funny surprises and secrets and activities for years. Hopefully, that would be fun. And it would make sense for them, as a means to constantly stay in the news and relevant. Maybe that’s why they charge so much upfront. Again, hopefully.
As for “useless direct”, don’t forget that not everyone consumes everything. You might have religiously watched every ‘treehouse’ and summary, but many (most) people haven’t. So Nintendo is right to keep the promotional videos coming.
Personally I hadn’t watched much of the treehouse cause I can’t stand the fake vibe. So this was in large parts the first time I’d seen the scope of this game. Love the dramatic verticality they’re using.
I honestly didn't care for it when I tried it shortly, back then - it had too little in common with the original. I suspect that's mostly down to being made by an external development team.
I'm in the same boat as the author Double Dash is the pinnacle for my taste, everything after was very good, but not as fun and lasting. Tightest controls & feel, best courses, and I loved the individual items. Here's hoping that MK World is a good one. I'm rather optimistic, it looks very different but exciting.
I'll wait a bit before buying this one, it's 80€ in Germany. Hopefully Mario Kart World will be enough for a while, maybe something indie & cheap to go along. Bananza when it drops to 60€.
In the end Nintendo's unique identity is in the games. We all played plenty of ported / remade / remastered / re-released Nintendo games over the past years and they were great. Which proves that (with some exceptions) the console doesn't matter so much.
@sanderev Well they announced an all-new product for a higher than expected price. So no price-hike of a previous product, that is true, because Nintendo is in a transition anyway, unlike Sony. But it is an overall price-hike nonetheless.
I think these two are super shady. They made a name for themselves solely by way of being Nintendo presenters. Now they piggyback off of that with a still "semi-official" reputation, but talking garbage and clickbait.
I wonder if Nintendo has changed their policy with presenters due to them.
Hmm not really! If anything I'd been counting on some big first party singleplayer epic from Nintendo. No 3D Mario was a surprise, but I'm cautiously optimistic that Bananza will be a worthy stand-in. DK as a an IP does way less for me than Mario, but this seems to be developed by the Mario team or at least one of N's top teams.
So my question would be: Will there be more announcements for the holiday period, or have we largely seen their lineup for this year?
Can I ask a question: Why is it that Nintendlife, as standard, writes about "Europe" in the headlines only to solely quote British prices? The British market is a small fraction of the European market (and kinda separate from it, even).
I've come to ignore your articles about "European anything", knowing it's actually going to be UK relevant only. Those affiliate links are useless to most of us, too. Just saying.
It's 90€ physical, standalone in Europe. That's so high that they must have seen the ***** storm coming. Why did they do it anyway? It only makes sense if they really wanna push people towards bundle and digital this time around.
It worked, in my case. I've been a 'physical' buyer, but was on the fence with Mario Kart cause that's the one game I wouldn't mind having on the console all the time. So... 50€ off if you take the bundle, that sold me.

No widescreen is a bummer I agree. If anybody could have added some modern improvements it's Nintendo themselves :/

Not a particularly pretty cover either way, yeah they both look a bit contorted.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Upgrade Pack Price For Two More 'Switch 2 Edition' Titles
What do we know about the size of the new Kirby content?
If it's literally one more world 20€ is a bit much. If it's more like a second campaign the price is fine.
Jamboree, couldn't care less for the game either way so no opinion 😬
Re: UK Charts: Are People Just Waiting For Switch 2 Now? Sure Seems Like It
Interesting how well Switch is doing with most of these multiplatform releases. That should bode well for 3rd party support on Switch 2.

@invictus4000 10€ is not a lot of money. Many will just impulse buy it while taking a break from Mario Kart.

At this point I am confused. How many different versions of the GC controller exist?
