Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Switch Comparison Video Makes Nintendo's Upgrades Clearer

Come on people, it’s worth it. If you’d rather play your old Wii copies - go for it. For anybody new to the games they’re looking at some 80 hours of the best gaming in their lives. And for me and the likes it’s a dream that these games will henceforth live on in 4K.

Seriously, for 18 years I’ve been gushing about SMG, and it became increasingly unlikely I’d convince anybody to try out games this old. Just too inconvenient, who even has an analog input on their modern TVs anymore? I didn’t think Nintendo would give them a second chance.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment 'Treasure Box' Set Revealed For Japan

@Olmectron Good question, I don't remember. I just chalked it up to the general messiness of the game. Tbh I can't even say I fully got the hang of the controls. It's more like a choppy blur. Mash mash boom explode waaah ok seems we've done it.

But hey, that's one aspect that should be much improved with this new one! Unless they shifted their priorities elsewhere and performance is bad again.

@LikelySatan I fundamentally agree - it's a game with a strong amount of Dumb. But for what it is they've improved it a lot between the first and the second entry already. The first I didn't finish, the second one was much more engaging with a stronger story / set piece element.

And crucially, it's not a game to be played alone. I played the latest one with an old friend over several months, whenever he came to visit we ended the evening with a few hours of Dumb Zelda. Good times actually.

Re: Rosalina's Storybook From Super Mario Galaxy Goes On Sale This November

Hmm I'd like to add one thought that strangely hasn't come up here yet. Seeing how this is supposed to actually be a children's book... I'm curious what age recommendation they will give it. As a parent: It is a very sad story, not one my kids would enjoy at their current age. Deceased mothers don't go down well with little children for bedtime.

Re: Surprise! Kirby Air Riders Is Getting A Second Direct

I kinda like how they give him all the time and space that he wants, just because he's that much of an "elder statesman". It's atypical and not standard corporate PR, so I applaud that.

That said, the first Direct had a weird redundant structure and could have used streamlining.

Re: ICYMI: If You Want To Play Virtual Boy Classics, You'll Need To Buy One Of Nintendo's Accessories

NintendoWife

Yesterday I was hyped about this, now a more sober view:
Considering that there's only a handful of games that you need to keep the subscription for and which will eventually be taken away from you, AND the high price for the accessory - no, probably not. I do wanna try the games though, I'll wait for reports about the cardboard version. No idea how that's supposed to work yet, with no stand.

I'm not angry though, because it's better than nothing, and I was dead certain Nintendo would do absolutely nothing ever again with Virtual Boy.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Updated To Version 2.0.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

NintendoWife

Yeah I used to just buy anything first-party that interested me, full-price from Nintendo directly, no problem. But that feels over. Even with games I definitely want I wait until I can get a better deal somewhere. It doesn't feel right.

On topic, 20€ for DLC can generally be ok, if for example you look at BOTW or MK8. Those were massive expansions. I did buy the recent Kirby DLC, but there I'm already worried it's much slimmer. This DLC here for Bananza is not for me at all, seems to be doubling down on the mobile phone game aspect of the game.

Re: Talking Point: Would Drag x Drive Be Better With Miis Or Non-Mouse Control Options?

NintendoWife

If anything this case is quite interesting. The issues all seem to stem from how touchy the subject is. So it’s a paralympics game. But they didn’t want to charge the game too much, or be too explicit about disabilities, for fear of getting into a subject that can be emotional and tricky to navigate as a company. So they decided for a detached approach - no humans but robots instead. Which seems to have sent it down the drab grey route.

And: Can you remove the control scheme after the fact? It’s kind of like saying “ok so yeah that’s how it feels like for a disabled person but you don’t have to do it that way”. Hmm.

Re: Developers Reportedly Still Struggling To Get Switch 2 Dev Kits

NintendoWife

The interesting bit is Nintendo actively persuading developers to instead target Switch 1. That suggests a new strategy regarding overlapping generations. Traditionally once a new system was out the predecessor became old news and died off quickly. Maybe Nintendo want to continue leveraging the huge S1 install base and keep the two generations alive alongside each other, as two quality tiers.
