If there's one indie game Nintendo Switch fans are absolutely dying to get their hands on, it's got to be Hollow Knight: Silksong.
For those of you who are eager for a bit of an update on this follow-up to original release, it seems we've finally got one. At the end of last month, the Unity Blog posted its 'Unity Awards' for 2021 - Silksong took out the most anticipated release and Team Cherry actually provided a bit of an update about the status of the project.
It's eager to share more, and doesn't think it'll be much longer... Here it is in full:
“We’re honored that Hollow Knight: Silksong won the 2021 Unity Award for the most anticipated game, and hugely appreciate all of the fans who support us as we work on the game. Thank you so much. We’re looking forward to the day we can share the game with you all. It can’t be too much longer, surely!” – Team Cherry
Silksong is currently trending on the social media platform Twitter. It seems the recently announced Nintendo Indie World Showcase has got people talking about it again. Of course, there's absolutely no guarantee it would even be revealed during a broadcast like this. And perhaps now with all the hype behind it, it could be an announcement for a bigger stage.
When do you think we'll finally get to play Silksong on the Switch? What do you make of this latest comment from Team Cherry? Leave a comment down below.

Everytime I see these articles I think about how I should go back and finish the original Hollow Knight. On the one hand it's a beautiful game, but on the other hand I just got lost constantly. If Silk Song comes I'll likely buy it, get lost a lot, and stop long before finishing also. 😆
As for dates, that mildly evasive sounding message did not make it sound like Silk Song is coming out anytime soon.
Jeez the delays of this game are so bad that they're even thanking fans for awards over a month after they got them.
We will see it never nintendolife
It will be a launch title on the Super Switch
I've sort of stopped caring about it now tbh. It's not that I'm not eager for it it's just been delayed so long I'm like oh well it'll come out when it comes out whenever that may be.
I like the “it can’t be much longer surely” line, I don’t think it’s a hint in any way as much as it is poking fun at the comments whenever there is a indie world.
I just hope that the end product is even half as good as the first game. Hollow Knight is my second favorite game of all time, and I fully believe that Team Cherry can deliver again.
Ah yes updates that update nothing. I guess it's fitting with all the Switch stability updates.
Still need to finish the first one though...
I still need to buy the first one. I might get the first Hollow Knight and then Silksong
It won't hapopen, but it would be hilarious if this was a ruse to shadow drop it tomorrw for the showcase.
That award is kind of bittersweet. It's like the "Finish the game already" award. Should be called the Half-Life 3 Most Anticipated Game of the Year to be extra trolly.
It’s a lock for Spring 2029
@FishyS
I have the same relationship with Hollow Knight, it’s an amazing game…excellent music, really creepy, dark but super cool atmosphere….but I have no idea where am at or exactly what I’m even suppose to doing. I always promise I’ll go back to it and finally commit to playing it thru but naw…I need a GPS update lol. I’ll get to it eventually tho…might lightly use a guide tho! In much the same manner I’m pretty hyped for song Silksong…not 100% sure why but I’ll just roll with it
I hate when developers announce a game that isn't half made, why would they do that?
I can't wait for the Silksong sequel.
Should be announced soon.
@EriXz This game was originally supposed to be an extra mode for the original, it was in the Kickstarter campaign as a stretch goal. With that in mind, it makes sense to say "We're keeping our Kickstarter promises, we just decided to fulfill this one with a separate game" rather than remain silent on it for five years.
I adored Hollow Knight and replayed it various times. I think the only thing I never could do was the final boss rush challenge. The one that was all bosses PLUS a new Radiance. Did the others tho, path of pain, and steel soul. Since putting it down finally I just been patiently waiting for Silksong.
Hollow Knight is comfortably my favorite game ever and Silksong is the only game I can imagine dethroning it.
@StarPoint What is your #1 favorite game?
Saw a picture of Hornet on NL, immediately dropped my phone, then realized we got this “news” last week. Don’t expect this at an Indie Direct. They probably have the budget to market this game ahead of release.
To anyone who got lost in HK, no shame at looking at a guide on where to go. Once that game clicks with you, it hits hard. One of the best games ever made IMO.
Dropping tomorrow during the indie direct surely
I still have the one pantheon to finish...
I was hoping to see the last of the endings before release.
Now, should I get it for switch, or wait for it to come to other platforms I have more storage space on?
If you haven't played Hollow Knight: DO IT! Best game and best soundtrack ever!
So stoked for Silksong!
i could see it happening, though im not particularly invested. Im hyped for the hype, and have started hollow knight and am loving it. this is the age of savage nintendo announcement drops after all.
It was the fact that the first trailer made it look pretty much done and then BAM, nothing for years. Agreed on it being a top top game but did find it a bit hard, made it to the cheap ending but just couldn't justify the time to do more
When it comes, I’m here for it. In the meantime, it’s my 90000000th run of dark souls remastered
Think I need to revisit the original masterpiece to mop up all the expansions. Might even start again and get lost in its world again
I want them to take as long as needed to make Silksong a worthy successor to Hollow Knight.
At the same time the wait IS agonising.
It's been over 3 years since it was announced and in January last year it was the cover feature of EDGE magazine. Even then it seemed 'It can’t be too much longer, surely!', yet here we are almost a year and a half later with hardly a word on the game.
@HotGoomba it’s never been delayed.
Is it a good sign that they wake up like that just before an Indie World?
Really hope this is going to be there, please please please
I feel like this is reaching the point where this game is so hyped that it'll never meet everyone's sky high expectations. It's going to be an absolutely excellent game no doubt, but I already can almost hear the complaints about everything that it isn't.
@sketchturner My #1 game is Super Mario Galaxy, and it probably always will be that. I've played it so many times over the years that it would feel weird for me to put anything else above it.
If not for Galaxy, then HK would definitely be my #1.
@Darrensmith016 I'm impressed that you decided to take my dumb joke seriously.
You heard it here first. Same day shadow drop at this upcoming indie direct!
Well at least it's something... Never played HK so I'm hoping I'll get to it eventually.
So when it was announced 2 years ago (I think), they hadn't been working on it for long?
Maybe this is just me, but.. games have a time and place in my heart and mind. At this point, I've moved so far beyond Hollow Knight that my interest in Silksong has completely waned. It's possible when it comes out it could eventually be rekindled, but even if it released today.. I just wouldn't care.
Indie World came and still no Silksong. How tf is an indie game more cryptic than Elden Ring before its release? At least that had an excuse given its scale.
@StarPoint I'm curious to hear why you prefer the first Galaxy over the second. That seems to be a common opinion, but as someone who feels that Galaxy 2 completely outdid the first game in terms of level design, I'm always interested to hear another perspective.
@sketchturner I think I just have a lot more nostalgia for the first game since it was the first one I played. I will admit that I think Galaxy 2 is probably a "better" game overall, but I still love the first one just a little more. I think the music, story, and overall tone of the first one are better than the second one.
Galaxy 2 does, in my opinion, have better level design and gameplay, but the first game is just extremely special to me. For reference, these are my current top 5 games of all time:
Super Mario Galaxy
Hollow Knight
Outer Wilds
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
So a slight gap between the first and second game for me, but it speaks volumes about how good both of these games are.
@StarPoint Yeah I agree about the music and presentation for sure. I have huge nostalgia for the first as well but just have a really difficult time going back to the gameplay and level design of SMG after SMG2 refined it so significantly (IMO). And I know it's not the most popular opinion but I absolutely LOVE the green star hunt in the post-game.
I'll have to look into Outer Wilds.
@sketchturner I agree. The Green Star challenge is a great post-game idea.
Outer Wilds is super good, and it's going to launch on the Switch at some point. Be careful to avoid spoilers, though. It's one of those games that's best to go in blind.
Hollow Knight is the best non-Nintendo game on Switch, and one of the greatest video games ever
@mezoomozaa The 1st Ori is miles ahead of Hollow Knight.
@FishyS Its definitely worth finishing, I would strongly recommend it! I ended up getting lost a lot too, so in order to cut down on needless backtracking I came up with a system where any time there was a spot where I couldnt progress because I was lacking an item or ability, instead of using a pin I would simply take a picture of where I was on the map, and also take a picture of what that spot actually looked like in game. That way if I wasnt sure where to go after I obtained the next item I could just look at my pictures and instantly know what I needed and where, works like a charm no pun intended
@HotGoomba How can a game be delayed if it never had a concrete release date or even release window announced?
@WaterBlad64 You know, someone already told me this, so I'll just say this:
OOPS!
This will probably be announced in an E3 showcase or direct, not an indie showcase.
Really hope it comes out this year.
Also, couple of you chaps in the comment section need to make more use of the wayward compass - not only will you never be lost it's also the most OP charm in the game. Unbelievably OP, basically game-breaking.
Take all the time you need, TC! Plenty of great games to play in the meantime, and you guys are perfectionists, go for it! It’ll come when it’s ready, and I’m hopeful that it’ll be something special
@Mariotag after the 1st came to game pass for so long, I'm tempted to wait & see if the 2nd does, myself.
For what it's worth, here are my top 5 games:
1.) Spelunky
2.) Portal 2
3.) Pokemon Gold and Silver
4.) The Beatles: Rock Band
5.) Hollow Knight
(Haven't played Spelunky 2 yet; or HGSS)
@FishyS haha i mean..there's a map..? And even a specific charm to show where you are? It isn't like carrion or something
Each area is extremely distinct from one another, and the fast Travel system is super generous. If you only played it an hour i could see getting confused in the starting area
But there's a reason it's so beloved, I've played it about once a year since it came out, never gets old. The dlcs are incredible, boss gauntlets are goddamn legendary, the combat is so finely tuned.. You can beat it over the weekend though it's not that long.
If it's that confusing just use the guide on the wiki haha
@Odinsatanas getting lost or not knowing where to go next is probably the biggest complaint (or at least less positive comment) of the game-- I've heard it from a lot of people I know, some professional streamers I watch, and even a couple other people just in this comment thread. The internet has lots of people suggest taking notes in a notebook or even taking pictures with your phone to help with the issue. Some people are better at visualizing big complicated maze-ish spaces than others so not everyone will have this issue. Honestly it's a common complaint with metroidvanias in general, but I would say e.g. Ori (and definitely actual Metroid games) are much easier to get around than Hollow Knight.
The fact that even people who get lost all the time or quit the game early tend to still think of it as a very good game (myself included) shows it is less a flaw and more just part of how the game is made, which inevitably works better for some players than others. It looks like NintendoLife will likely use Hollow Knight as the next backlog club game so I'm planning to revisit it myself.
