Re: Nintendo And Pokémon File Lawsuit Against Palworld Developer Pocketpair

The amount of people everywhere confusing patent infringement with copyright is alarming.

Now I'm no big city lawyer

(everyone gasps)

But it seems to me that this lawsuit goes deeper than the surface level "Palworld looks just like Pokémon" story that has been at the forefront of pretty much all Palworld coverage since the game was announced. If that was Nintendo's case, then surely

1. It would've gone after every creature collecting game under the sun. Palworld, Cassette Beasts, Nexomon, Coromon, TemTem, etc.
2. It wouldn't have taken this long for Nintendo to pursue legal action against PocketPair.

Patent infringement, to me anyway, implies that there's something else going on. Maybe it's the actual stealing and modification of Pokémon in-game assets? Maybe it goes even deeper; maybe there's code that was lifted from Pokémon games?

Again, I'm no game developer and I'm no lawyer, but I don't believe that Nintendo would've taken this long to file a lawsuit against PocketPair for the kind of surface level stuff that people are assuming.

@Christoble I backed that Kickstarter. Jools' almost complete lack of updates in the past 5 years has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. He'll go completely radio silent for months on end and then pop up all of a sudden with "look guys, here's one of the sprites from the game, isn't it cool?"

Like someone said, f**king crook.

Compare that to Adam Kareem's Kickstarter for Protodroid Delta (another project I backed) and it's like night and day. Yes the game's been delayed a few times but he's been consistently coming out with monthly updates, going into the nitty gritty of the game's development, and if he goes a month or two without an update, he's back with some massive super update telling us how the game's coming along. It's a shame that he seems to be completely burned out and has given the impression he won't make another game after this, because he's clearly worked hard and I would 100% back another project of his.

Edit:

In fact, @Olliemar28 I think any future articles/stories on Atooi's games should make readers aware of Jools' antics on Kickstarter. They should be informed in regards to who they're giving their money to.
