After I said a few days ago that Nintendo was well within its right to pursue a legal direction, today I find myself taking the exact opposite stance.
Digimon, for example, has been around since 1997, doing the exact thing that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have just patented, and what? They only thought to patent it now? This is a knee jerk reaction to Palworld being the first comparable game in years that truly looked like it might be a competitor to Pokémon, in terms of popularity and financial success, and Nintendo got scared that it might no longer be able to rest on its laurels.
A predictable outcome and something Nintendo was well within its right to pursue. Personally, when it comes to pirating games and films, I've always been of the mindset that if a company will sell it to me then I'll pay for it, but if they won't then I won't. Switch games definitely fall under the former.
Oh I thought this was going to be a survey about the website itself. I was going to request a feature that lets us filter out comments with specific words or phrases. Because there are some topics that I'm personally sick of hearing people complain about, and also some viewpoints around social "issues" that people in here bring up that I personally find abhorrent.
@JackieCMarlow then the complaining is even stupider than I initially thought. Complaining amongst yourselves in an echochamber solves nothing. Email Nintendo. Write to them. Phone them. Spam their social media. Start one of those online petitions. Direct your complaints at someone who can actually resolve your issues.
@The_Nintendo_Pedant I don't see how, given that I complained once in this thread and a grand total of twice ever on this site. And at least I'm complaining in the right place. I don't need Nintendo to read my complaints for them to actually be addressed. 😉
Also, you people will use any excuse to moan about Game Key Cards in a comments section that nobody at Nintendo is reading, no matter how irrelevant it is to the topic at hand. I admire your consistency, if nothing else.
I only bought a Switch 2 for Nintendo games and Picross games. I'm still playing Mario Kart World and I got a good 50 hours out of Donkey Kong Bananza. Plus there are a load of Switch 1 games I haven't played yet (including at least three Picross games).
I could definitely see how/why people who bought a Switch 2 as their main console or handheld might not be completely over the moon with its third party library at the moment as it is slim pickings. But I game elsewhere when it comes to third party so personally I currently have no complaints.
I just did a Grand Prix (on the Steam version) and I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy it. The handling didn't feel good to me at all. If nothing else though, it is a very pretty game. I'll have another look at it later tonight and see if it clicks.
More companies should make deals like this. If one company is sitting on a load of smaller IP that they're never going to do anything with and another company wants to do something with them, do the deal. Getting a bit of money for something you don't want/need is better than sitting on it and getting nothing from it 🤷
A lot of people here need to get their expectations in check. Burnout? Turok? WWF/E? Smash TV?
Most of Acclaim's catalogue was based on licences (Turok, South Park, Shadowman, WWF/E, etc), stuff they ported to home consoles for other companies (Smash TV, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, etc) or stuff they published that is now owned by other companies (Burnout). Plus, this isn't the same company it was. Jeff Jarrett and co. just bought the name.
@Liam_Doolan Playtonic weren't thinking of media outlets at all when they signed off on calling the game "Yooka-Replaylee". Hopefully the next game is named something less stupid.
@TryToBeHopeful it's still spelled incorrectly at least once in the article. To be fair though, I don't envy anyone having to type out that stupid-arse title 🤣
@Anachronism in his defence, this article was originally a video and was transcribed (by someone else, no less). I think it's just a case of spoken words not transcribing into text, which is completely understandable. Spoken words and text are structured and flow very differently.
After watching the Direct (and having my wife, bless her, narrate the whole 45 minutes because I couldn't read the subtitles), I'm not sold on this game in the slightest. I know in the grand scheme of things Nintendo's games don't get demos on the eShop all that often, but this is one instance where I'd really appreciate one.
I'll tune into this out of sheer curiosity. To be honest, I've played Kirby Air Rider on GameCube once in my entire life and couldn't tell you the first thing about it.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely understand and appreciate why people would be against Game Key Cards. But seriously, not everyone needs to comment on every article or review regarding a game that's releasing on a GKC about how they're not going to buy it because it's on a dirty GKC. Again, I get it and you do you, but Nintendo's not reading these comments. Why not email Nintendo every time you see an article or review about a GKC game instead?
I only bought a Switch 2 to play Nintendo games and every Picross game Jupiter makes until the entropic heat death of the universe, so I'm personally not actively hoping to see any of the games mentioned come to the platform. However, more games should be available in more places so that people have more of a choice, so: all of them.
I've played a bit of this, only because my wife got stuck on a few of the puzzles. Between us we blew through it in around 8 hours. I like it, it's cool.
@Overzeal not sure how that's a grammatical error, but ok.
The American/European one is better, and it's not even close.
I've actually been playing Mega Microgame$! over the past week or so. It's put me in the mood for more WarioWare, so I'll have to have a look at the two Switch games.
When they first started showing the trailer for this I thought, "oh, so it's a survival game". But it seems there's little point to it. Like it exists solely to say "look, a game that uses the camera function!"
@IronMan30 I can't tell if you're serious or joking or being facetious or what, so I'm going to just leave it and let someone else tag themselves in. 🤣
@WhiteTrashGuy nah, the best idea. I love introducing people to games I know they'll love. Back in the early to mid 2010s, my wife properly got into single-player FPSs and I was like "let me tell you about a little game called Bioshock". Watching her experience that game for the first time and really enjoy it was so cool.
@WhiteTrashGuy I tried to tell my wife about this game and about one and a half seconds in she says "mate, I have that wishlisted already". At least it shows I know what she likes 🤣
@IronMan30 I don't want to sound rude, but have you been living under a rock the last few months? 😜 They're mentioning it because some consumers have been vocal about their displeasure at a lot of Switch 2 games being Game Key Cards, meaning the game card doesn't actually contain any data but instead requires you to download the game from the eShop.
@Johnny44 I noticed that too. That can't be right.
Just so you know @Olliemar28, Donkey Kong Bananza sold 25,199 units in the last week, yet somehow managed to jump from 181,856 units to 1,445,628 units.
I predict that there will be no mention or sign of Silksong. Then at the end, there will be text that says "Thank you for watching this presentation lol".
@sketchturner Mina the Hollower is one of my most anticipated 2025 games. I was already sold because, y'know, Yacht Club. Then the Steam demo sealed the deal.

Re: Nintendo's Patent On 'Sub Characters' Could Have Some Dire Ramifications
@Suketoudara 🤣🤣🤣 did Nintendo patent... cars? That's wild.
Re: Nintendo's Patent On 'Sub Characters' Could Have Some Dire Ramifications
@GrailUK a lot. Certainly enough to make the filing of this patent an absolute farce.
