Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (North America)

Magrane

Car Mayhem, Dyna Bomb, Super Skelemania and Artifact Adventure Gaiden DX all SOUND promising to me, but thank you @aaronsullivan for those videos to help me confirm. As usual, I'll hold out on the probable physical versions of these.

Re: R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter Campaign Begins, Already Set To Smash Its ¥45 Million Goal

Magrane

@Dirty0814 - where did you get your information that this is simply a gimmick, unless you're just stating an opinion? @Shiryu based his information on the company's past social media accounts. To me, it seems that Irem isn't willing to spend the big bucks to make a new entry, so I say kudos to the development team, who is passionate about the subject, very interested in doing the coding........but lack the funding to do so.

Re: Nintendo Adds Three More Games To The Switch Online NES Library Next Week

Magrane

@Hikingguy Perhaps they are opening a door. Twinbee is the Japanese version of the one that came out in the West here, Stinger. But the real evidence is also the release of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, which was never released on the NES itself in the U.S.. Gives me hope for an Earthbound Beginnings re-release

By the way, there is already a Vs. Excitebike on sale in the Switch as part of the "Arcade Archives" series. However, the Famicom version (the one we are talking about here) apparently is a souped up version of the same game.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Gets Its First Official Trailer, And It's Definitely Something

Magrane

@INKT I wouldn't call it laziness. I'd call it giving a 2D character a background story. I don't think there are that many people with absolutely no hair during their childhood/young adult life, so why not show how it happened?

@UmbreonsPapa The Gangsta's Paradise song inclusion is supposed to be a joke, as Robotnik is the complete opposite as he rolls up in the trailer. This movie is a comedy.

@BensonUii I completely agree! This is meant to be a kids/family movie and the fun part is seeing the reaction from adults in how disappointed they are. The movie looks enjoyable! I was a teen when the first Sonic game came out - even though the CGI design could have been more like the source material, I still give Sega props for investing in their IP for the new generation!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 20th)

Magrane

@Shiryu Nooooo! I'm still resisting the digital urge!

Horizon Chase Turbo looks just okay on YouTube videos and I'm a fan of OutRun. Is the replay ability that high?

And I'm hearing so many good things about Katana Zero..! I'm going to wait for a physical for sure, but what exactly is the "clincher" that makes it replayable? I grew up as an 80's resilient-to-game-death gamer, but even after reading the review, what's the characteristic that makes this "great"?

Re: Sakurai Warns Smash Bros. Fans That New Character Reveals Will Slow Down From Now On

Here are my wish list of Echoes and fighters:
K. Rool (Wart) - palette swap!
Billy (Jimmy) - Double Dragon palette swap!
Duck Hunt (Banjo-Tooie) - awesome way to bring Banjo with minimal work.
Crash - why not bring a former company mascot into the fray.
Rampage - any of the monsters as assists
Lance (Bill) - if not actual Contra fighters to palette swap then for sure, as assists!
Heichachi - keep the Tekken hope alive
Vic Viper - assist by the Gradius series

Those are the ones that have historical gaming influence, I believe.

Re: Limited Run Games Reveals Golf Story Collector's Edition, Pre-Order Next Friday

Magrane

@mazzel I think BigKing cannot simply fathom that what is ugly and useless to him is a treasure to people who are into the gaming display scene. Yes, they are cartridges that may remain sealed and yes, they are pieces of graphic design plastic or paper just sitting in a shelf. Yes, they are physical VHS tapes of things seen on wi-fi. But the consumers are far from stupid: they know exactly what they are buying and what they are used for. The target audience of these companies are game fans, peope simply wanting physical copies (so their digital product isn't permanently inaccessible potentially), display junkies, and re-sellers taking their own risks. They know they won't sell a big bulk so they brand the "limited" name to get them moving.

As a business, they should be celebrating their success of this recently tapped market. And the consumers should be happy a few companies are still taking these kinds of risks! These are products that have value, beyond just a monetary one, to at least half of the buyers.

I think his basic argument can be applied to anyone wanting to buy a Ferrari or Mercedes. Over priced luxury vehicles, but with the cost of insurance or repairs, there are better options! So that makes their customers dumb for owning them? Noooope.

Re: Mutant Mudds Collection Is Getting A Limited Edition Physical Release

Magrane

I always wanted to get the 3DS versions for the 3D effect but now that there's a physical edition for the Switch, I may have to cough it up! If I like it enough, I may just get a 3DS version double dip for 3D portability.

By the way, the physical version is not the US version of the casing, but U.K. 😐😕. Ah well.....not that big of a deal breaker for me.

Re: Original Developer Working On Handheld Versions Of Mighty No. 9 Reveals “Zero Progress” Was Made

Magrane

I'm one of the Kickstarter backers who picked the portable version. On one hand, even though it doesn't look like I'll get my game, they did make sure the physical material was sent out to us. On the other, they've been silent without regard to a consolation and it's deafening. I wish Level-5 would step up and close this unprofessional chapter.

Speaking of which, the good thing that came out of this is that there was a resurgence in Mega Man talk at a time when Capcom abandoned the IP and we only got a cameo on Super Smash Bros: one could argue this experiment gave Capcom the push to do a better game and cater an exposed Mega Man market. One should also give an applause to Inafune for the amount of money they raised which at the time was high in Kickstarter history, and probably kicked off other smaller studios or creator attempts at indie games (which were antithetically successful!).

Re: Freedom Planet Speeds Onto Switch eShop August 30th

Magrane

With the success of Sonic Mania, I wouldn't expect anything less for the developer to get it to the Switch ASAP. So glad I waited from getting it on the Wii U! But...I want a physical version! I think I'm going to skip the pre-order discount and roll the dice to see if one of the collectible companies releases one.

This game has always looked great!

Re: SNK 40th Anniversary Collection Will Include Entire Ikari Warriors Trilogy

Magrane

This information is not new - they were announced as well months ago. But for whatever reason SNK decided to release this trailer as a catch? We may be getting separate trailers for games included, it seems. I hate that their names were changed from "Paul" and "Vince". 🙄

Still ordered the limited collector's edition months ago, so excited!

Re: Mighty No. 9 Developer Comcept Remains Tight-Lipped About Handheld Releases

Magrane

I emailed Nintendo Life quite a long time ago with this article suggestion, seeking to bring attention, being frustrated as one of the handheld backers that there hasn't been a word. Not even a blip or "pew pew" about a delay or cancellation.

Glad to see the NL editorial staff is paying attention finally, but shamefully because another website was working on it.

Anyway, I finally caved in a month ago when I saw the Wii U version in a bargain bin for $7.99. Couldn't wait another year to play this game.

Here's hoping we still get compensation somehow. At least with a digital code for the console version, if they've given up? I still don't regret backing it as they did come through with the physical material and it was an attempt to bring forward a new version of the Mega Man to the masses. Capcom learned from it, as seen in Mega Man 11.

Re: Simon And Richter Belmont Confirmed As Playable Characters In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Magrane

This GREAT announcement leaves me "complete" as far as my ultimate (pun intended) roster for the Super Smash Bros series. FINALLY we get Simon Belmont and Richter as a nice bonus echo character. With Bomberman as an assist and now Shovel Knight (!), my dream retro roster is complete!

Okay wellllll...you know what they say what happens if you give a mouse a cookie. Now I'm strangely wanting Duke Nukem and a Mortal Kombat character to pop up!

Re: Simon And Richter Belmont Confirmed As Playable Characters In Smash Bros. Ultimate

Magrane

@EightBitMan I understand your perception. However I think the point of the character roster (well, most of them) is to highlight those that have had a historical impact in the gaming industry. Simon and Richter both remain extremely popular Castlevania franchise heroes with the retro crowd, and the new generation can get to know them and the older games via their inclusion.

Re: Review: Dead Cells (Switch)

Magrane

I'm not a fan of roguelike games as well, but this might be the game I make the transition. It worked for 20XX, and I'm believing the hype behind this one. The nostalgic graphics aid in my decision but I do admit that the trend is a little tiring to see nowadays. Will keep my eyes out on the physical copy.
