Re: Final Vendetta Dev Considering "Free DLC" And Even A Sequel

Magrane

Anytime a developer wants to add free dlc (or heck, paid) for the sake of enhancement, it’s a plus to me. Bring it on, I say. I haven’t played it yet but it looks great to be honest. I’m not deterred by no continues as I grew up in the 80s…….when these game features were common!

Re: Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - The Best Turtles Beat 'Em Up Ever Made

Magrane

@Tom-Massey They’re all cartoon characters. For sure Leatherhead and even Slash appeared in the Archie Comics (not Dirtbag and Groundchuck), but they were in the cartoon too. So yes they shared the spectrum, but I guess the way I read it was that it included non-cartoon characters (Armaggon, Mighty Mutanimals, etc.) so that made me think they really went all-out.

No worries; the article is great. Just a little disappointed on my end.

Re: More Details On Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Physical Release Revealed

Magrane

@DeskLaser so you ask us not to mention the actual reason for the higher cost of a physical game, and still magically say it’s overpriced? This is FAR from “ridiculously overpriced”. You’re basing your claim on the comparison to electronic distribution. Is that your reason or are you just looking at a simple price comparison between a Steam cheap $5 digital game versus a physical product?

These sorts of prices have been the standard since the 80’s for physical media…….

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Hones In On Summer Release

Magrane

Konami’s timing in their release is awesome considering the word and fanfare this new game attracted. Kudos to Nickelodeon for also pushing this. The Turtle nostalgia hype is real and very marketable!

Did anyone else who watched the footage above notice the Turtles are executing moves from the older games? Pretty sweet homage.

So excited to hear the Turtle actors will be reprising their roles!

Re: Sonic Origins Arrives 23rd June, New Trailer And Website Are Live

Magrane

At first I wondered what was the point of this, since we already have multiple iterations of the SAME GAMES on multiple consoles. But realizing this is a birthday celebration kind of release, the remasters make more sense. To be honest, they should have included Sonic the Hedgehog 4 in this collection! I wasn’t leaning toward purchasing at first but now depending on its price, I may dip.

I wonder if the Sonic Mania team was involved? Makes perfect sense if they were!

Re: Feature: How Limited Run's New Engine Respects The Legacy Of Classic Games

Magrane

@Moistnado No, I’m just a major fan. If you look at my first post I did list one of that company’s negative qualities. There are other companies who are better at shipping.

Judging from your posts, you’re not a fan of none of the physical game companies out there. They are all pricing their games at around the same amount, so yes it’s a competitive price. You will never see anywhere a new physical copy sold for the price of the digital version unless its Nintendo. They are not competing against their digital versions of their games for pete’s sake…..😂

These companies are aimed at more retro gamers or collectors, not anyone who gamed starting only in the digital store age.

Re: Feature: How Limited Run's New Engine Respects The Legacy Of Classic Games

Magrane

@Moistnado no. The reason is because they have to pay, just like any publisher who creates physical games, for the cartridge distribution as well as the art, paper and plastic cases. If it’s not your tea of a mark up, maybe you should only stick to digital. It’s not just LRG.

But the funny part is that even digital games when first released are “conveniently” and “coincidentally” released at the same price as a physical one. Go figure.

Re: Feature: How Limited Run's New Engine Respects The Legacy Of Classic Games

Magrane

I am a fan of LRG and their goal to bring physical games to those that would be forever digital and possibly unplayable if exclusive to one console. That being said……the part of “accessibility” goes out the window when those same games are produced in a much more limited number than typical retail and themselves become hard to find and super expensive, just like their original counterparts!

Re: Yes, Hogwarts Legacy Really Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch

Magrane

I’ll be getting this game for another console but I’m ecstatic it’s on the Switch for those of you that’ll enjoy it on the go. Other sites have the hardcore next gen players already ragging the expected poorer performance - But I’m sure Nintendo pays no mind considering the Game Boy outsold the competition in the 90’s!

Happy to support the creativity of JK and the devs!

Re: Feature: 31 Best DSiWare Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

Great article. That and this Comments section are a nice compilation.
@takwu Wholeheartedly agree with you - these Game &Watch versions are good ports and I was disappointed they didn’t release more. Definitely must haves for me.

@itslukec yes! Good job on the mention, the replayability is high for Birds and Beans and the other WarioWare spin off, Paper Airplane, is fun too.

Here are other personal favorites of mine:
Valet Parking 1989 - fun, fun 80’s themed overhead parking arcade simulator. You take your stylus and park cars for clubs under a time frame. Good replay value especially with the humorous dialogue and funny ending.

Flight Control - although this game is available on the Switch as a knockoff called “Airport Mania” and an enhanced version called “Fly Together!”, this is the original version where you take your stylus and draw the paths for aircraft to land as they randomly show up, in a timed fashion, doing your best avoiding crashes. Again, high arcade replay ability as you want to get a top score (like Bird & Beans!) and very popular that a sequel was made for mobile phones. Totally enjoy it.

Re: Retro: How A Remarkable Street Fighter Port Soured The Relationship Between Capcom And Nintendo

Magrane

@rob7979 yep, I definitely remember Nintendo back then claiming cartridges were still superior and they were bothered with the load times associated with it. In fact the Nintendo 64 was a stronger graphical processor, so if you did compare PS1 games side-to-side, the only drawback was the audio compression capabilities and memory.

@Specter_of-the_OLED there’s an existing NintendoLife article on the development of SFA 3 for the GBA that chronicles the development, which was NOT Capcom, but Crawfish.
