Anytime a developer wants to add free dlc (or heck, paid) for the sake of enhancement, it’s a plus to me. Bring it on, I say. I haven’t played it yet but it looks great to be honest. I’m not deterred by no continues as I grew up in the 80s…….when these game features were common!
@MasterGraveheart The release from LRG wasn’t just LRG, but a number of other publishers too. It was an authentic cartridge North American release licensed by Capcom, as opposed to just reproduction cart, of the Genesis/Mega Drive game.
@Tom-Massey They’re all cartoon characters. For sure Leatherhead and even Slash appeared in the Archie Comics (not Dirtbag and Groundchuck), but they were in the cartoon too. So yes they shared the spectrum, but I guess the way I read it was that it included non-cartoon characters (Armaggon, Mighty Mutanimals, etc.) so that made me think they really went all-out.
No worries; the article is great. Just a little disappointed on my end.
@Tom-Massey Did I read incorrectly earlier this week that Archie Comics characters were in this game, from your review? So far all the ones I’ve encountered were based from the original cartoon……..
@DioBrando Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan. First TMNT GB game and portable side scroller. But great job on the music and cartoon graphics.
Looking forward to this game. Especially if the Archie Comics characters may be popping up. Super excited! I’ll be waiting for the physical retail, release however. Yes….it will be a very hard wait……
@thinkhector digital is not the future. It’s here. The simple point about physical copies is once the server is gone wherever you can retrieve your guaranteed digital purchase, the game is gone. A physical copy prevents this.
@DeskLaser so you ask us not to mention the actual reason for the higher cost of a physical game, and still magically say it’s overpriced? This is FAR from “ridiculously overpriced”. You’re basing your claim on the comparison to electronic distribution. Is that your reason or are you just looking at a simple price comparison between a Steam cheap $5 digital game versus a physical product?
These sorts of prices have been the standard since the 80’s for physical media…….
I’m surprised the abhorrent Wii version of Ubisoft’s Turtles in Time Reshelled wasn’t mentioned here. Goodness, the reason a lot of ppl purchased it was to relive the glory that the Cowabunga Collection will offer us this year. Instead it’s a mangled mess and almost unplayable.
@Serpenterror that would be a mistake! The NES versions outshines them all to be honest. But I get your point in terms of collecting all versions in one spot.
This movie was surprisingly more enjoyable than what I expected it to be. Great cameos, fun story and just easy to watch again just for the Easter Eggs. A fun creative twist to a typical basic studio series remake. Lots of laughing! Bravo to Disney and my 90s nostalgia!
Ugly Sonic’s appearance was very meta and enjoyable!
I’m more disappointed that they took out the Miis in favor of the Shy Guys. Aren’t they having a slight resurgence lately?
The Wii version of this was fun because they’d pick a random one from your huge list that you downloaded from other creators, or even Mii versions of your relatives. 😁
I remember when Earthbound came out, and back then I was a big JRPG fan. It definitely was a weird marketing plan. It did not grab my appeal at all with the humor intertwined. I’m glad they localized Earthbound Beginnings as we finally got to experience the first game, even tho Ness and Ninten look toooooo much alike.
Konami’s timing in their release is awesome considering the word and fanfare this new game attracted. Kudos to Nickelodeon for also pushing this. The Turtle nostalgia hype is real and very marketable!
Did anyone else who watched the footage above notice the Turtles are executing moves from the older games? Pretty sweet homage.
So excited to hear the Turtle actors will be reprising their roles!
At first I wondered what was the point of this, since we already have multiple iterations of the SAME GAMES on multiple consoles. But realizing this is a birthday celebration kind of release, the remasters make more sense. To be honest, they should have included Sonic the Hedgehog 4 in this collection! I wasn’t leaning toward purchasing at first but now depending on its price, I may dip.
I wonder if the Sonic Mania team was involved? Makes perfect sense if they were!
@Moistnado No, I’m just a major fan. If you look at my first post I did list one of that company’s negative qualities. There are other companies who are better at shipping.
Judging from your posts, you’re not a fan of none of the physical game companies out there. They are all pricing their games at around the same amount, so yes it’s a competitive price. You will never see anywhere a new physical copy sold for the price of the digital version unless its Nintendo. They are not competing against their digital versions of their games for pete’s sake…..😂
These companies are aimed at more retro gamers or collectors, not anyone who gamed starting only in the digital store age.
@Moistnado no. The reason is because they have to pay, just like any publisher who creates physical games, for the cartridge distribution as well as the art, paper and plastic cases. If it’s not your tea of a mark up, maybe you should only stick to digital. It’s not just LRG.
But the funny part is that even digital games when first released are “conveniently” and “coincidentally” released at the same price as a physical one. Go figure.
@piecez which title did they release that got a full retail one? I can only think of Huntdown but there was a reason it was only a Collector's Edition.
@Ade117 Agreed with you. I think what they should have done, like they do for Best Buy releases, is provide a warning they’re not the only ones with the exclusive physical license (so they can’t claim to be limited).
I am a fan of LRG and their goal to bring physical games to those that would be forever digital and possibly unplayable if exclusive to one console. That being said……the part of “accessibility” goes out the window when those same games are produced in a much more limited number than typical retail and themselves become hard to find and super expensive, just like their original counterparts!
@Highlar it’s ALWAYS a good thing getting fresh blood and ideas. It’s always been a balance of using what works in a company culture while tweaking processes to reflect the times or simply to improve them.
Looks as cool as Blazing Chrome did, which did justice to the Contra series too. If we had brought the Contra team from the 80’s to 2022, we would probably get a very similar product!
I’ll be getting this game for another console but I’m ecstatic it’s on the Switch for those of you that’ll enjoy it on the go. Other sites have the hardcore next gen players already ragging the expected poorer performance - But I’m sure Nintendo pays no mind considering the Game Boy outsold the competition in the 90’s!
Happy to support the creativity of JK and the devs!
@Alex79uk thank you. There are two games and I wasn’t sure which one you were referring to. There’s a GBA game called just “TMNT” and I think that was the one I heard about being one of the better brawler games.
…….…I don’t understand how this article is “news” when it was already announced years ago this would be arriving to Universal Studios Hollywood….I suppose the opening date?
Makes sense to open this up in the original theme park anyway, as LA is the entertainment media capital of the world.
I have been waiting for this collection all my life as it literally represents my childhood and teenage gaming years. So many memories fused into one gaming cartridge. They even had the decency to include the Game Boy games too. I’m pretty certain this is every Gen X gamer dream come true!
Great article. That and this Comments section are a nice compilation. @takwu Wholeheartedly agree with you - these Game &Watch versions are good ports and I was disappointed they didn’t release more. Definitely must haves for me.
@itslukec yes! Good job on the mention, the replayability is high for Birds and Beans and the other WarioWare spin off, Paper Airplane, is fun too.
Here are other personal favorites of mine: Valet Parking 1989 - fun, fun 80’s themed overhead parking arcade simulator. You take your stylus and park cars for clubs under a time frame. Good replay value especially with the humorous dialogue and funny ending.
Flight Control - although this game is available on the Switch as a knockoff called “Airport Mania” and an enhanced version called “Fly Together!”, this is the original version where you take your stylus and draw the paths for aircraft to land as they randomly show up, in a timed fashion, doing your best avoiding crashes. Again, high arcade replay ability as you want to get a top score (like Bird & Beans!) and very popular that a sequel was made for mobile phones. Totally enjoy it.
@rob7979 yep, I definitely remember Nintendo back then claiming cartridges were still superior and they were bothered with the load times associated with it. In fact the Nintendo 64 was a stronger graphical processor, so if you did compare PS1 games side-to-side, the only drawback was the audio compression capabilities and memory.
@Specter_of-the_OLED there’s an existing NintendoLife article on the development of SFA 3 for the GBA that chronicles the development, which was NOT Capcom, but Crawfish.

Re: Random: Super Mario Odyssey Easter Egg Displays Nintendo's Perfectionism
I think this is more of a case of continuity than more so Easter Egg, like BotW’s detail was. An Easter Egg is a hidden item in the game……
