@RetroOutcast oh wow, was not aware it popped up in Crash 4. What’s the Celeste approach? I agree about the lives approach- for our retro generation it’s about the replay value and the challenge of the lives / continue system.

Looks like good retro fun for us older casual gamers. But did anyone notice in the description how the “modern” game mode, versus the “retro” one, is the version with infinite lives?

The Hori Split Pad Pro is a great set of cons for those that prefer the D-pad style of handheld gaming and bigger, less drift prone joysticks. I’ve owned the red pair for over a year and so far it has not disappointed this Gen X retro player!

There’s a market out there who prefer to play games on something built exclusively for them as opposed to a flat touchscreen or third party controller adapater. Or who simply wants to have a phone separated from gaming.

@locky-mavo I would call it a step up. The guy founded his OWN company and has those console games under his belt. Who is to say one day a masterpiece won’t pop up?

Welp, for me GTA Vice City was synonymous with Joe Jackson’s Steppin’ Out and Animotion’s Obsession, so my experience will be affected. Nuts….😕

@masterLEON when you’re talking about the shadows and day effects, you’re talking about how the original PS2 games have them and not any of the newer versions, right?

@NoTinderLife Because a Mario Kart HD game was still pretty new (3yrs old) in 2017, so why not just upgrade the pre-existing one and call it a day? I don’t think we will see 9 until the next gen console. We have had other longer gaps of time in the past!

For those of you that mentioned Shadowgate, Uninvited or Friday the 13th on the NES, and even the first Resident Evil game, mad kudos as even today I support those as still some scary games. Maybe the past graphics and the internet’s desensitization of death for millennials may not have them agree with this, but yes those are worthy of mentions. Even NES Jaws makes you jump.

Im surprised this article instead prioritizes Japan-only releases as if they were accessible NES and SNES releases. They should have been aptly credited to the Famicom / Super Famicom systems.

Other honorable mentions include the chilling, eerie music of the last stages and scenes in Contra, Super Contra, Contra III, Bionic Commando NES, Metroid and Super Metroid. Heck, Castlevania, Castlevania II, and Super Castlevania IV are totally related to this season!

For a fun yet creepy Halloween-related NES games, check out Alien Syndrome, Monster Party and Maniac Mansion. I’m sure there are others that are not coming to my mind now but I’ll come back here and edit as needed.

Can someone tell me how different this Mario Party game is from the 3DS title called “The 100”? Is it the same games?

Definitely picking it up physical. Even more so because I spent my GTA gaming time actually NOT playing, and watching my brother and friends play through. So technically this will be my first time owning it and giving it my own shot. I’m fully aware the original disc versions are the way to go though because the Vice City soundtrack really made it for me.

For UN Squadron fans, check out Carrier Air Wing. It’s the spiritual sequel to it and the game play is super similar.

I seem to recall that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is not on any other system due to a current Sony exclusivity.

Love that Nintendo continues these Game & Watch homages as anniversary product content. I don’t think anyone would appreciate this item though if they did not grow up in that era....so maybe that’s why the expected love for the first one was lower than forecasted.

Would you consider mentioning the Mii wear that also reference to past games? I wish the characters would still keep coming.....at least via Mii outfits! This is a game if you ask me, a history in the making!

The funny part about these commenters who claim they’re happy they never bought the game or regret it, as a result of allegations such as these, will or would wind up playing a pirated version or a friend’s cart of the game regardless. Yet another way of just simply avoiding forking over their own cash under the guise of social justice.

I understand how corporations are funded and fueled by greed, but how can you be surprised as a business owner yourself with how many ppl are willing to falsify and change the narrative just to simply hurt others or advance themselves ?

@BanjoPickles I think we both know it means much more to the gaming community for a character to be a part of the Super Smash Bros. roster than just “Fighter #94”. The game transformed into a “who’s who” of gaming history. No other game has a collection of licenses and IPs interacting with one another like this one.

Any Kunio/Double Dragon character - they’re long overdue!

I wouldn’t be mad though if it were DoomGuy or Crash Bandicoot though. Will be sorely disappointed if it’s another Nintendo IP.

@Cia I was just going to mention this. Not as bad as the one for MM1, but it has that same weird “bendy” vibe going, and even mixed up Dr. Wily and Dr. Light on the cover.

Mega Man 3’s cover finally gets it a little bit more, but I love how they gave Mega Man another weird “bendy” style. 🙂

Capcom and Konami reeeaaalllly lead the pack in the early nineties. I may add more as I continue to recollect!

My first Nintendo game? The Game & Watch game Tropical Fish. My parents got it for me in 1986 while visiting Bangkok. My brother got Donkey Kong Jr. I was always on it and even used it as alarm to wake up. I loved that little device!

My first NES console game? Spy Hunter!

I’m hoping it’s either Kunio or the Double Dragon series. They certainly belong in this elite roster. If not, then we can all settle for their Mii costume variants.

I don’t expect it to be Mortal Kombat due to licensing issues.

Are ALL the mini games from Mario Party: The Top 100 for the 3DS in this game as well? This seems like an HD remake to me.....

@nesrocks It doesn’t matter how much of an impact the logo had on sales. The point of that example was to prove, as just another piece of evidence not unlike the names of the files she uses, that Capcom had circumvented paying her for the rights of the image use. $12MM sounds more punitive but I’m sure it will be settled out of court.

@Snatcher - personally, if you played New Leaf for 3 years and kept coming back to it, this will do the same for you. This game I would best describe as “New Leaf HD Plus”. I continue to enjoy it.

@Luminous117 There are goals or accomplishments to the game, so there are people who time themselves achieving it. The thrill of the fastest time! I’m not too crazy about it, but I understand how a master to the game entertains oneself..

@Shadowthrone The MM3 story, colors and graphics makes this game beat out Mega Man 2 by a nose. Yes Mega Man 2 had stability and the same cartoony visuals, catchy music vibe.....but I think nostalgia of that first impression drives up the popularity.

@aSmilingMan Completely agree! Mega Man Soccer was a fun ride when 16-bit Mega Man was just starting out! I remember trying to figure out how to unlock the Wily CPU character.

@screechums I did and felt the same thing with my GC version! Total letdown for a game born in the NES era.

@screechums I was born in 1976 and still stand by how much more gloriious Mega Man 3 was. That being said....I think this list is fairly accurate overall. That summary of the GCN version of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection was dead on, I’ll have to admit. Such a disappointing configuration that ruined the game for me 😕

I was looking forward to this game, but if it is that incredibly short, I may pass on my physical planned copy. Sounds like it is what it is: arcade style and it really looks beautiful. As much as I want to support indie developers, I would have loved to learn that the game was a little deeper.

Mega Man 3 to me was a slight edge higher than Mega Man 2 in terms of story, colors, replay ability, 8-bit push-of-the-envelope cartoony graphics and music. Goodness....the catchiest tunes.

Apart from those, there were many other excellent games but Mega Man X, Mega Man 9, Mega Man V GB and Mega Man X2 stand out as just really well done.

Mega Man Legends was a nice new 3D twist to the lore. Mega Man Soccer is a pure guilty pleasure ☺️

@Mando44646 It’s the original one 🙂 But definitely not as big as the one in Orlando. So I expect this new land to be a condensed version of the ones in Florida and Japan.
